Review from Jo C.
San Francisco, CA
I had a problem with my Samsung LCD TV. I went online to see what the problem/solution was & found out it had a problem with the power supply. I read some reviews online & called some TV repair shops in SF (where I live). In SF, I would have to take my TV in & leave it about a week. I knew it would only take a few minutes to fix & I most certainly did not want to lug my large, heavy TV around. After reading some reviews on yelp, I hoped I could get Peter Moon at Awake TV to come out, even though he was in Mountain View, since he had good reviews & would repair in home.
He was very professional on the phone. He came out the very next morning & fixed my TV in just a few minutes. He called to let me know when he left & what time he would be here. He arrived as scheduled. He is a very polite, professional person. I was extremely pleased to have my problem completely solved within 24 hours. I felt his price was reasonable as well. I would unequivocally recommend him. -

Our Samsung TV started making this popping sound and wouldn't turn on. Of course, it was out of warranty so I started the dreaded process of looking for a repairman. The last time we had to get our TV fixed it was a mess of ordering and re-ordering parts that resulted in our TV being out for weeks.
I called Awake TV in the morning and was surprised that Peter told me he could come out that same day, in the next hour. I had read that there would be a diagnostic fee that would be applied towards the repair and that's what he told me as well. Seemed reasonable.
After he arrived, he started taking the TV apart. I was glad that he handled the TV by himself with no help required from me. He said he had to go to his shop but he'd be back in 2 hours with the necessary part. He came back right on time, fixed the TV, and the price was very reasonable. I'd definitely call him again if I had to. -

My Samsung flat screen TV went black only after 2.5 years. After cussing about it for about an hour, a friend recommended Peter Moon at Awake TV. I gave Peter a call, he told me that it'll cost $30 for him to take a look at it. Few days later, Peter called and told me about the part that needs to be replaced and how much in parts and labor it'll cost me.
I cussed again at the TV for dying so soon then told Peter to go ahead and fix it. The amount was kind of on the borderline of spending more money and buying a new TV or fix the old TV and hope the same problem doesnt happen again. I hate these new TVs made with no consideration for quality. I still have a 20 year old Sony tube TV that works just fine.
Regardless, Peter was very professional and courteous. I hope I dont have to use him again but was happy with his service. -

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, the accursed Mr. Murphy and his dreaded Fourth Law ("Moving Parts Don't") strikes!
Last Sunday night, my treasured Sony upscaling HDMI DVD player ran afoul of Mr. Murphy. Just two months past the end of its two-year warranty (of course), the poor thing didn't stand a chance - Murphy sucker punched it by mashing a half-loaded new "Limitless" DVD into its 5-disc carousel loader. My player went down for the count, making horrible grating sounds like a vulture going through its death throws in a meat grinder.
I didn't really want to watch the very last episode of the sixth and final season of "Lost" anyway...
On Monday, I yelped TV Repair services, and came up with Awake TV, which had been reviewed pretty favorably. I called and talked to the owner, Peter Moon. He told me there would be a $25 diagnostic fee to have my DVD player checked out. If I decided to have the player repaired, the diagnostic fee would be credited toward the price of the repair.
So far, so good - I then went to http://Amazon.com to complete my assessment of the situation. I was amazed to see that in the two years since I last shopped for this type of technology, Sony had released a replacement unit that was so inexpensive, it apparently made no sense to fix my old player - or did it? I drilled down to the technical specifications, and saw that in their eternal quest to increase their profit margins by lowering production costs, Sony had removed the optical digital audio output circuit from their new DVD players. The only type of digital audio output Sony now supports is coaxial. That meant that if I bought a new Sony player, my choice would be to use RCA audio cables and give up on DTS surround sound, or buy a new receiver too, and spend five or six hours rewiring my whole Man Cave...
That $25 diagnostic fee was starting to look awfully reasonable. I called Peter back, and he said if I brought the unit in today, he might be able to complete the diagnostics by Thursday morning, so off I went. When I arrived, I saw that the shop was filled to overflowing with all manner of electronic appliances and components, and I began to have second thoughts, but Peter dispelled any doubts I might have had very quickly. He talked the talk (I couldn't see whether he could also walk the walk, as there wasn't any room to walk inside the shop), and was obviously very knowledgeable.
The next day, Tuesday, started out with everything going wrong. Right out of the gate, my coffee pot gave up the ghost (no doubt jealous of the undue attention being paid to its sibling appliance - I've been seeing a lot of this type of wayward appliance/electronic behavior lately, so here's Nick's Note to Murphy's Fourth Law: Misery Loves Company), and then I got a call telling me my client session for the afternoon had to be cancelled. All I needed to make the day complete would be to find an IRS Auditor camped out on my doorstep...
Fortunately, the day had nowhere to go but up. I decided to use the unexpected free time to go out and play, so I went to the gym, and then had lunch on Castro Street. The weather was sunny, warm and wonderful, the beer was cold, and the food was excellent.
The icing on the cake - Peter Moon from Awake TV called as I was driving home. He told me he had just finished diagnosing my machine (2 days ahead of schedule!) and that he had gone ahead and fixed it by realigning and readjusting the gears in the DVD carousel assembly at no additional charge. I picked it up on my way home.
In summary: Sometimes it makes sense to fix old electronics, rather then replace them. If you find yourself in that situation, I would unhesitating recommend Peter Moon and Awake TV. He's knowledgeable, professional, friendly, and gets the job done fast.

I highly recommend Awake TV! Peter came to my home on a Saturday, right on time. During the week he ordered the part and fixed my Samsung television. I was very impressed with his professionalism and customer service. My television is as good as new and the price was very reasonable. I'm glad I found Awake TV.

It's been 3 months since I had AWAKE TV repair my television.
I own a Sony KV-34XBR800, which weighs in at 225 pounds (on a good day)! My TV status light started to blink indicating a 4-blink and a 6-blink. My television would turn on (in the sense that you can hear it click on, but no picture), give me the status blinks, and then it would turn off. I started to research the dilemma on the Internet and discovered that my TV was very...very sick.
I began to panic with the idea of either replacing the TV or having to somehow move it downstairs and into my truck to get it to a repair center. What a relief to find Peter at Awake TV! :)
I called and the owner, Peter, answered me right away. I explained to him my situation and my model # (this is important).
Peter was able to immediately schedule me in (that day) for an appointment to repair my TV at my home!!! What?!?!?!? At my home??? Awesome!!! Even better...he scheduled me at 7:30 PM, which was great for me.
Peter called me to tell me that he was running late and that he would be at my place at 8:00 PM. Ok...that was alright with me, but poor Peter...what a long day!
Peter came by and he checked out my status lights and he removed the back cover of my TV. Several clumps of dust fell out, and I was so embarrassed over my housekeeping skills...I had to look away. Peter laughed and said that the dust is pretty much typical for all TVs even in the cleanest places. Oh good...I felt better! lol
He tested some components on the motherboard and he recommended that I replace the entire motherboard and power coupling. Oh my...that sounds expensive! Actually, when he told me how much it was, it was cheaper than buying a new TV and I got two new parts that should give me another 100,000 miles on my TV!!! lol The range of cost was between $200 - $350.
Even better...Peter had the parts - so my repair was immediate on the spot. What I appreciated the most was that Peter gave me "an honest repair." It wasn't frivolous and he told me that if the repair would out way the cost of a new TV, he would tell me. Thankfully, in my case, the repair justified the cost.
With the replacement of my old parts with new ones, my TV came back to life. Peter tested the system and re-calibrated my TV by degaussing (eliminating unwanted magnetic fields) it, and voila...I was happy!!! :)
The repair time was about 1 hour including the diagnostic exam.
The reason why I waited 3 months to write this commendation to Peter was to allow YOU, the reader, a chance to see that his repair work is genuine and worthy of your time and money. Like yourself, I was a little skeptical of: (1) having someone come over to my home to repair my TV, and (2) if the work was of high-quality, reliable, and reputable.
As with many other Yelpers who have taken the time to write a 5-star praise of support for Peter (dba Awake TV), I would absolutely return to his business for my future needs. I would also recommend him to any of my family, friends, club members, and neighbors.
I appreciate your time in reading my review, and I hope that this will give you a little more confidence in calling Peter for help. Thank you! -

It's so difficult finding a reliable, honest, and skillful Big screen TV repair man! After reading & searching through Yelp, I came across Peter Moon.
Surprisingly, he actually answered his phone! That's a good start! He promptly made a house call appt to my parent's home the following day! He showed up right on time, and diagnosed the (Panasonic 51" Projection) TVs problem. My Dad was so happy, he even asked Peter to fix another broken (Sony 27") TV that had been out of service too.
His minimum $50 House Call fee was waived with purchasing his repair services. The costs of repairing (under $500) two TVs was much less than buying a new flat screen LCD and throwing/recycling away the electronic waste. -

Last Monday, I brought in my HDTV for repair work.
Last Friday, it was finished and just in time for the Pacquiao Fight!
$440.00 repair work with repair warranty. Hands down to Peter Moon for his professionalism and talent. The replacement board for the my HDTV Samsung was about $300 and his labor was $150. Discount was applied because of initial $50 diagnose cost.
Thank you Peter! I'm am proud to have you as my list of expert vendors in my contact list.

$50.00 for Peter Moon to begin the investigation and trouble shooting of my 42" Samsung LCD HDTV. I bought my TV in February 2007 from Circuit City for $2700.00 without the the extended warranty. I'm not true believer of getting extended warranties because at the time they wanted $700.00 for a three year term and the program seemed rather shady (you send your TV out and wait for about a month according to Circuit City). I wasn't in the mood to drop $3400 for the TV, so I made my purchase and enjoyed my Samsung for 2 years and 10 months before the screen crapped out. See attached pictures.
So this morning I dropped off the TV and met Peter Moon. Apparently, he worked on Ron S's family televisions. So I'm hoping Peter comes through and saves my Samsung. I'm not in the position to drop another $3K for a TV. Especially when the LED tv's are on sale at Best Buy. Somehow the HDTV industry is robbing the world. My old college TV lasted 12 years before crapping out (it was a Sony 24" from Sears). I'm so disappointed in Samsung.
Dammit.... it hate electronics.
* sigh *
I'll keep this posted once I hear back from Peter. For now... 4 stars for his professionalism and first impression. -

Peter is the best - Awake completely exceeded my expectations. From scheduling, technical skills and professionalism, they are tops!
Our 61" Samsung had been very reliable but started having troubles. He diagnosed problem, ordered parts, installed and solved. Different problems ensued, which led to a second call. Peter came out, calmly explained what could be happening and took parts to shop to test. He came back with the answer, installed - no charge! I highly recommend this company. -

As an owner of a very expensive high-def TV set that likes to go on work stoppages (e.g. break down), I'm unfortunately well qualified to rate the services of TV repair folks.
When my set broke down most recently, I called Peter, he came out the next day and he quickly fixed the problem with my set. Moreover, when recalibrating the set with the new part inside, he finally got my TV adjusted in the way I'd been wanting for years (that several other service technicians had never been able to achieve). I won't bore you with the technical gobbledygook, but my set looks and works great now, and the repair tab was very, very affordable.
To add to some other reviews, while there is the standard house call charge that all repair services charge, as is industry custom, this fee is applied to the cost of the repair if you have him fix the set. -

My 3 year old 46" Samsung TV kept cycling through on and off whenever i tried to turn it on. Eventually it would stay on, but once it tried for 20 minutes and didn't come on so i gave up. I called Awake TV Repair and spoke to owner Peter Moon. He gave me an estimate which was reasonable, but needed to look at my TV first to make a diagnosis. There was a $50 charge for the diagnosis which would be waived if I had the repair done. He came over the same evening, and repaired my TV. He was friendly and efficient. The bill came to exactly what the estimate was and the diagnosis fee was waived. It also has a 30 day warranty. I feel very satisfied with his service.

I've used Peter last year when my tv broke and wanted to share my feedback with everyone else:
I had a Sony Wega 32" flat screen tv that broke and when I called other places they told me that I had to bring it in for them to diagnose the problem and to see if they could fix it. They said if I was to transport my 200+ lb tv to and from the shop, I would only have to pay the diagnostic cost and parts. But if I wanted them to do the transporting it would cost me $400 on top of that! So I found Awake-TV online and I am so glad I did! Peter did house calls..and came to my house and diagnosed the problem with my tv and then order my part. Within a week, my tv was up and running again..and the total cost was much cheaper than $400. I highly recommend Peter and would definitely use him again. -

Ou r(Old Monster) TV) 2003 Sony Trinitron had a power problem, where it would not turn on, unless it had been off for a couple of days, but we still love it and researched repair options. We called several places with high marks on YELP, and some didn't even bother to return my call, while others wanted to charge a service charge to diagnose, but would not credit it to towards repair. Peter called right back, showed up right on time (on Saturday) diagnosed the problem, ordered the board and 2 days later, showed up right on time (Tuesday, 7:15 PM) after we got home from work and fixed the set. He credited the service charge towards the repair, which came to a grand total of $270, much less than what we had seen charged for the same repair when we researched it. So, if you are looking for a courteous, prompt and knowledgeable service tech to repair your old trusty TV, call AWAKE. Oh, yes, Peter also set up all of the auxillary connectors again for us and even did that right so stuff we did not hook up right they all work too, which was a nice surprise. Nice work!

A few days ago the HDMI on our Samsung HDTV stopped working. Since it's so hard to find a reliable TV repair shop, I trusted the review comments for Awake TV here at Yelp.
I got to talk to Peter @ Awake TV. He came to our house the very same day to investigate the issue and then fixed the TV in the shortest possible time.
Peter is very professional. I appreciated the fact that he would address the problem so quickly. -

Peter Moon is great. He came to our place to look at our 65" Big screen that was acting up. Not only did he repair the system, he cleaned the projector lamps and reconnected our system for full feature HDTV.
The picture now just jumps out at you and we couldn't be happier.
I could not recommend him higher. -

After reading Yelp reviews, decided to call Awake Tv. I found them deceptive in regard to what they say they charge for a home visit, as opposed to what their website says. For a flat screen 36 " tv they said it would be $95 to just come out for the service call. This is quite a big difference from even the max $50 service call on their website. I pointed this out to them and they said the price was higher because my tv was a flat screen. I asked them what this had to do with the price of a service call and their response was that they had a higher liability in case they dropped the tv when they were looking at it!!
With deception from the get go, I can't even imagine what would ultimately have ensued if someone from this facility would've ultimately come out. -

The owner was extremely professional and trustworthy. He quoted me a price before ordering the parts and kept his word on the quote after finding out the part cost more.
I have referred him to two different family members who were also happy with his work. -

Our Panasonic 65inch TV started getting squiggly lines making it hard to see. Granted, it was bought in 2002 so we have had it for a good while, but we are not in the market to buy another one, so in reading through Yelp, I decide to give Peter a try. Not only was he able to find a replacement part for our TV (the defective part no longer made by Panasonic), but he kept the initial price quoted (under $450+ house call fee of $50 waived). I would definitely recommend him- he is fast, knowledgeable and quotes are reasonably priced!

Our 51" wouldn't turn on yesterday and my husband had a nervous breakdown. We called the manufacturer and they wanted $90 just to diagnose the problem, and they couldn't promise when a technician would be sent to us. Well, luckily I found Awake TV on Yelp, called them the next morning, and Peter was willing to help us the same day! His diagnostic fee is waived if you order the repairs from him. The price he quoted us was very reasonable, less than what other people who took the corporate route reported. And by the time I came home, my husband was his usual couch potato self, happy as can be. Thanks, Peter!

Peter fixed my Toshiba DLP set - It was a tough job - After replacing the bulb assy it would only start up after a lot of plugging and unplugging. Peter had the right ballast in stock (they are very rare!) and was able to analyze and fix the problem. He stuck with it and did the job. I would definitely recommend him!

Great address to have in your book.
If you want to keep up you expensive TV or maintain an old one because you can't afford the new fancy toys, he is the man. His name is Peter.
He charges $50 to come to your house and very quickly diagnose the issue.
My uncle who's a experts in electronics, by his studies and work, could tell right away that the man knew what he was doing: good tools, fast and without hesitation.
He has seen so many TVs that it looks like he already knows what he is going to find inside, just from the external symptoms.
He has good estimates and will tell you if it is not worth to fix the TV. If the decision is tough to take, he might fix it in order to check the condition of the image/tube, before you decide to go on to pay to fix it.
He will deduct the $50 from the repair fee, which he executes fairly fast, and could take your old TV for recycling if you give him a hand to load it (when necessary for large TVs).
Last time he came, he told me it was not worth for me to fix one of my TVs that is getting old, which I believe. A few days later he offered me a TV matching what I was hoping for as a replacement and that one of his customers did not want to fix and told me that it's mine if I want to pay the repair. Great deal!
Fast and Flexible. Very helpful and trustworthy.
A must have in your address book. -

Peter gave new life to our 32" Panasonic conventional TV. The set's less than 10 years old and the picture was occasionally collapsing to a single bright line and there was bowing on the left and right sides when it worked, too. He set our expectations realistically, explaining that he believed that he could fix the collapsing picture issue, but it might not be worth the $ to fix the bowing issue. We decided to do the repair, he removed the TV to his shop, and three days later brought it back with *both problems fixed* for the original est. price. One very happy customer here :-)

Peter is awesome. What a very nice business owner. My Mitsubishi DLP died on my birthday of all days. I called Awake the next week and Peter was able to come out the next day. He was very polite and really knowledgeable. He also told me that the "air flow" message that had been plaguing me for a couple of years was still covered under warrantee. He suggested that while we waited for lamp replacement to come in that I get authorization from Mitsubishi to fix that as well. I was excited to find out the air flow issue was still being covered. Now not only does my TV work perfectly I no longer get those annoying messages and occasional shutdowns. He did that all for an extremely reasonable price. So I could not be happier.

We've used Awake TV two times now, once about three years ago to fix our Sava speaker system and about two weeks ago to replace a power supply on our tv. On both occassions, Peter Moon arrived at the house within 24 hours of our call and repaired the problem within three days, the time quoted in the original estimate. He's professional, quick, efficient and knows tvs and electronic components. My husband was concerned that we were going to have to go out and purchase a new tv (never something that you want to do on the spur of the moment) but since we called Awake TV, our tv should last about another four years before we need to start deciding on a new one. Thanks again Peter!

This guy is really good. We have a projection Toshiba HD tv, and it had a speaker out and the hd channels weren't aligned correctly. Peter came by, took out the "brain" and within a few days, the sound issue was solved. Peter also reinforced the electrical panel (I don't know the technical lingo) for free, just to ensure that nothing would short out again. He patiently adjusted my screen until it was perfect.
Also, and just as important as the above, he makes house calls. He's a really nice guy, not someone I would be nervous letting in my home. Highly recommended. -

My 46-inch Mitsubishi LCD TV died after only 2 years. It won't turn on. Peter Moon charged me $95 which included pick up and diagnosis of the problem. Unfortunately, my TV was beyond repair. He tried to replace the signal board but that wasn't the source of the problem. At the end, I decided it would be more cost efficient to just buy a new one. Peter could have charged me for his attempts to replace the signal board and the restocking fee, but he didn't. He was fair and honest every step of the way. At the end, I just needed to pay $95 for a peace of mind.

Peter diagnosed and fixed the power supply problem on my 50" Samsung flat screen. He credited the amount to diagnose the problem towards my final bill. As much as I like Best Buy and the Geek Squad, they're not very reactive to a small $300 job and Peter was communicative and efficient.

Not really knowing a whole lot about CA, our 42"Mitsubishi went on the blink. My husband immediately said the convergence was out. My son thought that we had 3D, so went to get his 3D glasses we had kept from the movies. I thought it was the insightful idea that made sense to the younger mind. Needless to say that didn't work...but smart! I hopped on YELP to look for a TV repair place/person. After reading a good handful of reviews, I decided that Awake was a good place to start. Though it was the weekend I called that same day and Peter said that he would be able to come on Monday, but may be able to come by Saturday afternoon around 2-4pm because he would be in the area. He did come by on Saturday. Had to take the inner workings into his office to replace the convergence tube. Also explained how he would clean everything inside to give us a much better picture and basically brand new TV. It is only 5 or so years old, but may last a few years longer.
Basically, we are very happy with his work and would definitely recommend and use his services again. Professional, quick and affordable. Thank you Peter :o) -

Peter Moon has a great service. He makes house calls to fix your TV and electronics! I made contact with him via email, and he came to my place within 48 hours (and on time). He checked out my set up and diagnosed the bad DVD player. (I have a complex set up of cable/VCR/DVD/TiVo/receiver, and somewhere in there the audio had failed.) He actually got it working again, but went above and beyond by showing me how to reconnect things in a "Plan B" configuration, if it happened again. He advised me to buy a new DVD player if it happened again, not try to repair it. This, from a repairman. Such honesty is refreshing these days. Then he only charged me $35, cheerfully packed his toolbox and drove off into the sunset. Total elapsed time: 30 minutes. I am very satisfied and recommend Peter to anyone who needs A/V repairs. They fix computer monitors too!! My DELL computer monitor just stopped working all of a sudden. Awake tv was the only helpful resource I found. Peter was very helpful, took the monitor, fixed it for a good reasonable price (way cheaper than buying a new monitor) and in good time too. The nicest experience for a repair shop!
