I am the producer of an indie film called Best Friends Forever.
Any one who works in production knows, "fires" are gonna start from time to time and a lot of my job is making sure I can do my best to put these fires out in a timely fashion or prevent them from happening in the first place.
That's where Avon came into play...
Not only did they save the day by getting us a top notch grip truck (cube truck) that was at a better rate than Galpin, they also provided us with the picture car when our original picture car fell apart. Literally.
A 1976 Pacer that steals the film. We named it Bubbles.
BFF is a road trip movie and Eric and Steve (please ask for them by name because they are life savers!) saved my film and I will always tell productions to go to Avon first.
Their service and their dedication to making productions happen is unrivaled.
Is Avon french for bad ass because it should be... -

These guys are great. I needed to rent a 10' truck to move some things, and priced out U-Haul, Budget, and Ryder as well. At first their prices seemed to be way cheaper, but don't forget they charge upwards of 80 cents per mile!
I ended up going with Avon because they included a lot of miles, and it was the most conveniently located to me. And since I wasn't going to keep the truck overnight, they gave me a little break on the price too!
What I really loved about it was the service though. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and there was none of this "I need to talk to a manager BS." Whoever picked up the phone was ready, willing, and actually able to help. They all communicated clearly and effectively. There was no red tape or inflexible rules. The whole thing was just incredibly EASY.
And there was NO waiting in line at all, unlike every other rental car agency I've been to. Oh, and also not a single person tried to upsell me on anything. Oh, and the guy who gave me the truck told me that while they charge of course for any damage that you do, "Don't worry about small scratches," he said. "Scratches happen. We don't care about scratches."
In the end, with tax and gas, the 10' truck rental cost me under $80. Awesome. -

I am here often because one of the production companies I work for rents vehicles from here about twice a week. I hate that I must leave my car keys and my own personal vehicle at their whim. The way the lot is setup you must parallel park amongst other cars and leave your keys so that they may move your car if you are blocking someone in. Also, the lot is basically a dirt and rock filled lot so expect your car to get dirty while sitting there all day. The only other parking option is to find street parking but don't forget that you're in Hollywood, where street signs are confusing as hell and are out to get you ticketed and towed. Just beware. I just recommend leaving your car in the lot because if anything happens AVON is at fault. Parking is not free. They charge you/your company $15 per day that your vehicle is there.
I am getting tired of waiting in the morning for them to clean the vehicle that I should be leaving with that day. Shouldn't the car be clean and ready for me at my pickup time? They need to get their act together. The guys that work there are friendly but I just don't like the setup. -

Avon Rent a Truck = "As Good As it Gets"
I've used Avon rental trucks twice for low budget film production. They were great both times. I highly recommend them for indie producers and students. They have very friendly rates and rental terms.
In the new format of my reviews and assigning them movie titles, Avon's review gets "As Good as it Gets." They may not be the sexiest company with a trendy Hollywood name, but their great prices and their accommodation of customers is what counts. They give good truck. -

Van was great. Clean, new, and ran well, even on our trip up the mountains. They offered a great rate and were super friendly to deal with.
Many rental services I've used in the past have had gross seats with gunk, Cigarette burns, and smells I can't connect with anything wholesome. Avon's van might as well have been right off the lot. Felt like we had a brand new vehicle. It made for a great weekend trip van.
Thanks again, Avon! -

I rented a Toyota Camry from Avon a few months ago when my car was in the shop (grrr, transmission issues) for a week. They were an amazing rental company to deal with and the girls behind the desk were friendly and took the time to explain their policies as it was my first time ever renting a car. The process was overall pretty simple and surprisingly quick.
It seems like they do a lot of truck rentals for movie companies also because while I was there a few people who worked for a TV production company came in to pick up some trucks and they told me they always come here.
Luckily my car got out of the shop with a clean bill of health so I returned their rental and got to drive my car again, the rental was great but there's nothing like driving your own car after it's been gone for a while.
Since I had such a great experience, a group of friends and I are renting a 15 passenger van in a few weeks for a big weekend trip. They allow 24hr returns even on Sundays which is works perfect for our weekend trip. -

I rented a van from Avon at LaBrea and Santa Monica to move some stuff into my new place. The van was clean and ran perfectly. They even threw in some moving pads at a reduced cost. Their experience in film production makes their pick-up and return procedures stream-lined and super efficient. Hard to imagine a better experience. I'm definitely going back.

Needed to move my flat screen tv, but I don't have a car that's big enough to do so. Rented an F-150 pick-up from Avon for their 4 hour min. for less than $50. They're open early on the weekends, which is really nice for those weekend moves.
If you're not trying to go to one of the major chains (Hertz, Enterprise, etc), which don't always have trucks/vans, this is a perfect place for hourly truck/van rentals. -

Rented a 15 passenger van for the weekend. The front desk service was prompt and the van itself was amazing. The prices were much better than the other places near the airport that I researched and the 24 hr returns were gravy on top.
The van was kept at a location a few blocks away, but it was painless. When we got there, they washed it thoroughly and took pictures if there were any dings. Only took a few minutes and off we went. -

I rented a car from Avon's Santa Monica location (located at 2411 Lincoln, between Pico and Ocean Park). My car was in the shop, I was in LA, and there was an office gathering in Orange County. Not wanting to no-show, I looked at one-day car rentals throughout the West LA area - basically anywhere along a bus line. I found that the car rental locations fell into three categories: (1) closed either Sunday or Monday (as Monday was a holiday), (2) located at the airport = high surcharges (3) large surcharge for me being under 25. Even Rent-A-Wreck was over $40 with my underage surcharge. After Yelping Car Rentals, I found out about Avon and called them up. They said that I could get a Toyota Corolla for $26 for the day. No underage surcharge for those 21+ (that's a first!) And, they're located off the 8, another plus.
Renting the car was perhaps as seamless as can be. My past experience with car rentals has been waiting around at least half an hour to get the car. For this one, I was in and out in under 10 minutes. The car was perfectly fine (and I was happy to have a Corolla over a Chevy), except that it was due for an oil change so the "maintenance required" sign was on. And, good gas mileage to boot.
It also took only 5 minutes or so for drop-off/checking the vehicle. So efficient, good car, low cost... I'll definitely use them again if I need to rent a car. -

On Christmas, BOTH my car and my wife's car's batteries died & we had a 4 hour round trip for Christmas dinner. Thankfully, AVON was open and the two staff members were SUPER helpful even though they were stuck there for Christmas Eve! In and out in a great, clean Mustang! Highly recommended!

I helped my buddy move from his condo to a house. He couldn't rent anything (international liscence) so I helped him out. His driveway was really really steep so we backed it up and lowered the lift.. The hydraulic lift lowered perfectly to meet the driveway so it helped out alot . It also lifted one of those square pianos so it was pretty strong. Since I drove there I had my insurance and all that with me so no problems there.
The people were also pretty fun and it felt more personal, less business. All in all, great experience. -

We had 2 vans reserved for our big 12-person, 200-mile Ragnar race from LA to San Diego for months. Our team trained, and were ready to start out the crazy, 36-hour relay. We arrived to pick up our van 2 hours ago and were told one of our vans was not available. "Sorry," they said, "it is Coachella weekend, too. You're out of luck" It is now 9pm, our race begins at 5am tomorrow morning, and we have no transportation for half our team. Unbelievable. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They did not honor a reservation we had for many months.

Found them on a Sunday morning at around 10:30am. They had a nice, clean cargo van fueled and ready to go for me by 11am. They have a 24 hours drop off service. Very friendly and happy to help if you need them.

I've rented several times from Avon on Lincoln Ave in Santa Monica. They have an excellent flat rate ($30/day for small car - $150/week) that does not change based on when you reserve the car or rent the car. They always seem to have cars available and are very accommodating, on a couple of occasions I've extended the return date without a problem or penalties. They've also given me a ride to my house when I asked (2 miles). Very friendly, great service.

I rented a truck here and was amazed at the customer service. I had been to U-Haul and they were rude and not helpful. When I called Avon it was like a breath of fresh air. They were polite and knowledgable. If I ever have to move again I will definitely use them again. I highly recommend.

I had a great truck rental experience with these guys. They were efficient, helpful and friendly. I rented a 12' truck and it was in excellent condition. They have a very convenient after-hours drop-off service and charged me a lower rate because I was returning the truck the same evening. Top marks, and a total contrast from the awful experience I had at U-Haul just a few blocks away. Rent from these guys.

my husband and i needed a large truck to move some heavy furniture and didn't have any luck with the regular rental companies. we thought we had gotten lucky when we called avon and they had a stake bed truck available right away. they said we would get 150 miles per day which would be no problem since we were only going about 20 miles total.
we drove to our fave furniture store (further in silver lake--look for a review on this INCREDIBLE store) and got ready to load up all of our beautiful furniture.
the truck wouldn't start. my husband had to call the rental company and about an hour later, they arrived with another stake bed truck, eating away about another 30 minutes of our day while the guy tried to get the old truck to start. finally, he gave us the new truck and we pulled it out front of the store to load it up. we tried lowering the ramp for easy loading and realized it wouldn't go down because they attached a TOW RIG to the back, blocking the ramp. so we had to remove one of the side barriers and lift the heavy wood furniture up into the truck. not fun.
but at least we were finally on our way and i couldn't wait to get home and see all of our gorgeous furniture in our new apt.
my husband called me (i drove separately in our car) to inform me that the SECOND truck broke down in the middle of the road about a 1/2 mile from our home. i called avon but because it was after hours, there was no one to come out to help us. apparently there is a dude on the truck lot 24 hours to log in returns but he said he was alone and there was nobody else who could do it. he offered to call his manager and get back to me. luckily, a few minutes later, my husband called and said he got the truck running again. we got it home and unloaded all our furniture without incident. oh, and we never did get that return phone call from the guy at avon. we could have been broken down all night long for all they cared.
next day, we returned the truck and explained all our difficulties (2 broken down vehicles and a non-functioning ramp), hoping they might knock off some of the rental fees. the girl at the front desk said only her manager had that power and he of course was unavailable so we'd have to wait for a phone call.
the call came and the dude said he be happy to take off some of the charges, except that we were getting charged like FOUR TIMES what we were expecting. after all, we only drove about 25 miles, filled up the gas and used six blankets ($1 each) and a dolly ($10).
i didn't get a chance to call until this morning and was shocked to hear they were charging us for almost 250 MILES!!!!!!
well, obviously, they got their mileage messed up when they switched trucks on us.
sheesh. i tried as calmly as i could that there was NO WAY we drove that many miles, they must have gotten confused when they had to bring us a different truck and to please look at the miles on our original contract.
and of course, the girl had to call us back.
she did and said, oops, actually you only drove 30 miles so we are crediting that back to your account.
except they are only crediting $30 bucks, brining our total to what it should have been before the discount.
we lost any discount given to us for all the trouble we endured just for a one day truck rental. i explained this to the girl but she didn't seem to understand what i was talking about and just repeated that she was going to credit us the miles. i ended the phone call because i couldn't stand talking to these people another second.
very unhappy with the customer service and reliability of this company.
next time, we are going with one of the big rental companies.
