This is a very nice inn/hotel/whatever. I stayed here with a co-worker who came up here for business meetings.
The room was lovely and a bit bigger than most standard hotel rooms. The bathroom was huge as we were able to share it without any problems. The carpet was a little worn and old but be real-whose carpet looks like it's showroom fresh after years of use?
The pool was awesome. It's rare to find a deep pool these days. It was nice to grab a drink and relax by the pool after a long day of meetings.
The pub/restaurant was good. The bartender on duty, CHristine, was a little slow and less than attentive as we had to flag her down to order and ask for refills on drinks. We weren't offered a bread basket yet the surrounding tables were. However the food made up for the less than stellar service. My co-worker's chicken dish was fantastic and my salad with a goat cheese topping was delightful.
I plan on staying here again when I need to be on-site at work for more than 12 hours and need some peace and tranquility after. -

I stayed in a room in the old part of the hotel recently while attending a conference. The place was perfectly acceptable -- clean, comfy bed, wifi -- your basic motel amenities. And it felt more like a family-run motel than a hotel. Room windows face walkways, so there's little privacy if you enjoy natural light. There is a weathered feel to everything -- the older televisions, irons, ironing boards, AC unit. Carpets can stand to be updated and chair upholstery cleaned. I had to leave the water running for at least five minutes for it to get hot every time I took a shower. And, water pressure was good, not great.
That said, the staff was very accommodating. The complimentary tea/coffee in the lobby is a nice touch, as are the assortment of breakfast pastries (although they did taste a wee bit stale).
The bar/pub seemed to be hopping every night, although my one interaction involved unsuccessfully trying to get a bite to eat just after the kitchen closed at 10 p.m. The front desk manager on duty took pity on my situation and prepared a small box of pastries and fruits for me, which speaks to the AOFH's stellar customer service.
If I ever return to the area, I have no reservations about staying here again, although I'll make sure to get a room in the newer wing. -

What a cute hotel with so much history (yep, that's a little booklet detailing all of that on the bed when you arrive)! This hotel has 10 times the charm of any Hilton, Marriott, or Sheraton. With an old New England feel, the rooms are clean, simple, and rustic. No flat screen TVs here, but no worries because there were functioning TVs with cable anyhow. We had a great experience with the service (they accommodated us with an upgrade when the room they had said was available when the room we requested we made our last-minute call earlier that night wasn't available), and found everything (including the rollaway) quite comfy. However, it was a tad annoying that the person working the desk was pushing their restaurant breakfast buffet on us when we asked about nearby places to eat...and then he steered us to a place that no longer exists. Oops.

This is a nice inn/hotel at a main intersection in Avon CT, west of Hartford. The building is easy to access with good parking. Our room was clean and comfortable a handicap access bathroom (in the main section of the hotel).
It has a lovely bar/pub the service was good. They were handling two weddings that weekend and did a good job juggling the demands of the the guests.
The bar had excellent beer selection and specializes in farm to table food, i had 3 cheeses as a snack which were excellent. -

The original part of the Hotel which houses the main lobby, began operating in 1955 across the street from the historic Avon Old Farms Inn...
What I didn't know about the hotel's site was revealed in a cute little booklet they left for me in my room...it detailed over 25 or so pages, the history of a few generations of one family who all lived in one particular house. In fact, one of the girl's would stare our of her bedroom window and across the street to the blacksmith's...and if you go into the lobby of the hotel now, stand atop the staircase and gaze out the window, you'll see what SHE saw so many years ago.
The history of the area is rich so the hotel has always been alluring to me...I figure, if you're going to stay in the area, why not rest your head somewhere with a little historic significance rather than your local Motel 6? lol There are three other family-run establishments in the area along with the Avon Old Farm's that are marked as Classic Hotels of Connecticut...
Little tip: make sure you get a "luxury" room in the MAIN building...as opposed to the regular rooms. The difference being that the upgraded rooms have interior doors and are FAR nicer...the other rooms are just your standard motel fare with exterior doors. It's worth that extra $20 or so a night...trust me! -

I was unlucky enough to end up in the old part of the hotel, closest to the highway. Not impressed at all. The room reminded me way too much of the Days Inn cheapo rooms I stayed in 25 years ago: dank, dark, vaguely dingy. I was reluctant to step on the carpet in bare feet. Furniture upholstery was stained. The room was small, and the TV occupied the desk, which left the coffee table as the only viable working space-- not ideal at all. Wireless internet was free, but often crashed. Cooling came from a window air conditioner, so full privacy meant pulling the heavy drapes over the a/c unit, blocking its flow. Again, far from ideal. Any why is it so hard for hotels to provide decent clock radios?
What did I like? The location was good. The staff and hotel are clearly trying to improve, they just have a long way to go in my experience. The bed was fine, the shower worked well, and the toilet flushed. There were no bugs. It met my basic needs during a conference. -

It's a cute hotel with great access to all locations in Avon. The staff is very nice and you get the impression that if you had any issues, someone would address them immediately.
As others have written, the "Annex" or "Economy" section is a standard motel section. Everything's clean and in good shape, but it hasn't been updated since the 70's (so it appears). Pay a few bucks to get the upgraded room in the main part of the hotel.
The food and drinks at the bar are good with lots of beer on tap. The drinks were strong and done right. We were there for a wedding and kept the bar going until about 2:00 AM. Despite what the website says, the continental breakfast consists of coffee and a few muffins/pastries. No juice, cereal, or fruit (Sept 2009).
Personally I'm used to business travel at a Courtyard or Garden Inn, so the hotel seemed a little old and run down for me. I understand it's an old place and privately owned, but if you like clean, new and consistent, consider one of the other locations.
