Thoroughly Impressed!
I have rented from Avista on two occasions: one was for a work seminar, and the other was for my wedding. Two completely different events but the service I received was remarkable for both. I am not the most technical of people but the courteous and professional way David educated me on the equipment I was renting, allowed my events to go off without a hitch. Planning for a wedding is obviously stressful so my wife and i will always be grateful for the care and attention provided by David and the rest of the Avista team to make our special day a huge success.
Just an exceptional experience from beginning to end and i will without a doubt be using them again in the future. -

These guys have moved! To a place with definitely easier door access for heavy equipment.
Since my initial review, I did a few more rentals through Avista. One was for a KSC subwoofer, which turned out to be pretty good. The guy working there demonstrated all of the subwoofer's features and gadgets. I will actually be renting another one for this weekend. This subwoofer certainly saves the stress on my mains, without having to pay the huge price tag, or having to worry about properly storing it.
I rented a wireless mic system as well for a wedding, since my old unit broke down. I called within a few days of the wedding, and they were great in accommodating me with a high quality Shure wireless system.
Both of the items I rented included accessories to ensure the items full functionality. When I rented my subwoofer, the guy actually included extra XLRs since I mentioned that I needed to go buy some for another set of speakers that I was using in conjunction with the subwoofer. He had no problem just including them with the rental.
This is a company I will keep referring to anytime I need to rent PA equipment!1 Previous Review: Show all »

After I sold most of my PA equipment (JBL MPros), a close friend was getting married and asked me if I would DJ the reception for them.
So, I was in dire need of renting equipment and I was leary of the quality and condition of the equipment that I would be able to find and for a reasonable cost.
So, my search headed me to the internet and of course...YELP! There weren't too many results in the East Bay for sound production rentals. Some that I was able to find was pretty pathetic in terms of their equipment list.
Then, I found Avista. Not only did they get great reviews on Yelp, their website was easy to use and had a great list of gear to choose from. From very basic to the higher quality gear. I opted for the QSC K8's over KSubs which come very highly recommended. The Mackie mixer is also a decent known quantity and easy to use having owned a Mackie in the past. At the last minute, they decided that they wanted to do a photo montage. So I needed to rent a projector too which they were able to accomodate.
When I went to pick up the equipment (just a few blocks from my office), the equipment was set up and ready to be demonstrated and the guy there was very friendly and informative.
I was a little worried that these speakers wouldn't cut it in the ballroom (The California Ballroom at the WC Marriott-73x73x13). But, these tiny speakers are really clear and throw very nicely. They have a great coverage pattern. The KSub (while a little boomy in certain frequencies) did a very good job of keeping the thump going. The dance floor was always full and it was easy to keep things going without worrying about not having enough PA.
The vocal clarity switch on the K8's works very nicely. There was no worry about feedback either as the frequency pattern was very even and the speakers are very well suited to the task.
Again, props to Avista. Thanks to David Flashner who helped me out thru the whole process. It sure was great to be able to play with somebody else's equipment (good equipment too!).

This was one of the best event ideas ever! This 4th of July we had a crowd of people over for BBQ and a movie in the backyard. The Avista team (David and Jeff) delivered a rental package they call "Backyard Movie Night."
They set up a 5'x9 movie screen with rear projection provided by the crystal clear blu-ray player. The color, clarity and sound were spectacular. We enjoyed Tom and Jerry cartoons as a prelude to Shutter Island. This was fun, affordable, and a fresh idea for kids and adults.
Avista not only has cool equipment but offered great ideas about other things we could do with this package and other items they rent. We've decided to do this monthly since everyone has ideas about which movies would be fun.

The dispatcher on the phone told me if I wanted to drop off the tripod I rented from them in Walnut Creek today, I only had a 30 minute window to do it. Sure, that's kind of a pain in the ass, but I knew that was the case when I rented it last week, and I'll do whatever it takes to stay on this side of the tunnel on a Friday.
Anyway, I headed out to their office, MapQuest directions in hand, with half-an-hour before their guy Doug had to head out to another pickup. Despite having grown up only 15 minutes from Walnut Creek, I still managed to get lost, and somehow ended up in Lafayette. I'm completely useless without my GPS these days.
After a couple calls back and forth with Doug, he finally just drove out to where I was to pick it up. AND had a smile on his face. Pretty cool.
All that, and the deal I got on the tripod was better than any other rental house in the area (all two of them.) That said, the Manfrotto 055V tripod I rented from them kind of sucked, but that's an issue I have with Manfrotto, not Avista. -

The Karaoke machine we rented from Avista was a major hit at our Friday night birthday party. Everything worked great! The support from the Avista team for setup instructions and running extra power cords over to us was awesome. Great job Avista. I know that once Moraga weather becomes more predictable I'm renting that outdoor movie equipment. Can't wait!

Rented the backyard movie package for my son's birthday last weekend. What an excellent decision! First the backyard movie idea was unique. But what made it an even better decision was the fact that these guys delivered an excellent product (we rented the 9' screen package). The product was flawless, the instructions were excellent, the staff was courteous and their technical support guys were very helpful and made sure we were fully set up when we got home. Avista is truly a customer-focused company and it showed in every aspect of our dealing with them. I highly recommend them.

I have a major fear of public speaking so I masochistically exited my level of comfort and decided to give a talk about a medical mission to Cambodia. As a major prop, I prepared a slide show on a Mac and found Avista Video Rentals to rent a screen and projector.
Carolyn Alexander patiently explained how to work the equipment and did such a good job that I actually heard what she said, despite my Stage 4 anxiety. On the day of the presentation, the equipment worked flawlessly and the event was a success. Muchas gracias to Carolyn and all the staff who were very helpful, professional, and supportive.
I would use this company again in a heartbeat ! -

A few weeks ago I needed to rent a microphone and speakers for my friend's reception and wedding in Pleasanton, and found these guys after a little google sleuthing. They had exactly what I needed: something they put together in a slick case with a wireless mic, mixer, and a iPod dock. It also had great sounding speakers, all we had to do was not fight over who's iPod we were going to use... anyway, it rocked the night (hundred on the dance floor during rock lobster, at least....) until the wee wee hours. Gave me great instructions on how to use the thing, price was real reasonable, everything went off without a hitch. Thanks guys!

Love, love, love, Avista karaoke rental! We have rented from Avista three times for Thanksgiving and other family gathereings. Avista equipment is easy to use and top quality. Our family rents karaoke machines on a regular basis because we like to have fun. Since we found Avista on-line three years ago, we only rent from Avista. The service is incredible and the equipment is easy to use and always functioning. We recommend Avista to anyone who is thinking of renting high quality equipment at fair prices. Our next party is my 40th birthday celebration. You can bet we'll be renting the karaoke system from Avista again.
