Thanks to some nifty super duper codes and coupons, we seem to always rent from Avis when on vacation. We've rented from them twice now on our trips down to SD and both times were pretty smooth sailing. The first time, we got in at around 930PM on a Thursday night so the shuttle was near empty... and the rental pick up place was nearly deserted. Service was fast quick and prompt and we found our car really quickly. The second time we flew into SD on a Saturday morning and the shuttle was packed. I snagged a seat next to the exit and hauled ass as soon as we got to the rental car lot and grabbed a place in line. We've had notoriously SLOW service in the past at the Las Vegas location and there was no way our schedules alotted for an hour standing waiting in line for a zombie to hand us the car keys.

Thank god that I used my God given curves to bump people out of the way while I scrambled to get in line. Service seemed prompt and we found our car and managed to get our way out of the parking lot easily and find ourselves up on I-5. Best yet.... we had rented for two days, and upon return, they actually credited us a couple of hours for returning the car early!

Return service was really easy and prompt... 38 dollars later... we were on our flight back to San Jose.

We pulled up with a trunk full of luggage - 4 bags, 4 carry-ons - to lug over to the shuttle.  In the back seat, two kids, sound asleep in their carseats.  As I jumped out to start unloading, the attendant took the paperwork from my husband and saw the children in the back.

"No, no", she said, "I'll get someone to drive you over in this car, so you don't have to wake the babies."

I climbed into the back seat with the kids, my husband moved to the passenger seat, and we only had to unload the luggage once - and NOT carry drowsy kids on and off the shuttle.  Is that awesome?  You KNOW it is.

When the shuttle picks you up, the driver calls ahead to have your car ready.  That is also awesome.

This is a 24 hour location, even though the airport is not 24 hours.....Don't question it, just embrace it.

There's a shuttle to take you from the airport to the cars.  MAKE SURE YOU TAKE THE RIGHT SHUTTLE.

The staff in this location is reallllllly nice.  They know a lot of their clients are on vacation, and they try to get you off to a good start.  If you're preferred it's SUPER FAST.  I've gotten some great cars from this location, including a zippy mustang convertible during a late spring trip.
