CO Bigelow is amateur hour - only tourists flock to that overpriced place.

Avignone is the neighborhood's best kept secret and I think only locals patronize them. They carry obscure cosmetics, hair and beauty products as well as hand picked rare creams and medicine.

Avignone is also the only place I've found European aspirin (or magic pills, as I call them). If you drink too much, you pop one and the next morning you wake up and function like a normal (sober) human. These magic pills also does wonders for menstrual pain. Perhaps it's because it's 500mg but I'm convinced it's the Braille on the European packaging. Or it could be tied to very fond memories I have with a special someone who'd bring these exact aspirins to me when visiting from Europe.

    Crap, I digress.

At any rate, if you are downtown, obsessed with beauty products, skip CO Bigelow and head straight to Avignone. Your wallet may hate me but you will thank me.

This is such a wonderful store!  The selection of items is fantastic; I went in looking for Mario Badescu products and they pretty much had the entire line.  They also carried a variety of high-end, hard-to-find skin and hair care products (including Davines, which I can never find anywhere except for in salons).  Everything is well-organized and tidy, and the store is very warm and welcoming.

The staff is friendly; I was greeted with smiles and pleasantries, which is something you'll almost never find in a CVS or Duane Reade.  I also got a slew of free samples - yay!

Wonderful pharmacy - and unlike CO Bigelow, the people are pleasant. Amazing collection of Mario Badescu skin products and they are great about giving samples.

Huge selection of high quality items. Well curated pharmacy filled with 'upper crust' personal care products.

All I have to say is that I LOVE this pharmacy.  Not only do they fill prescriptions within 5 to 10 minutes, the pharmacist (Andrew) is a pure delight.  Very accommodating and helpful, Andrew is truly an old-school pharmacist at heart.  Moreover, the shop itself is a gem in its own right, stocking its shelves with the best in healthy & beauty products (Kiehl's, Dr. Hauschka, Crabtree & Evelyn, Bumble & Bumble, Frederic Fekkai, etc).  Avignone Pharmacy really embodies what a true pharmacy is.

The only complaint I have about Avignone is the "e" at the end of its name. So near to the pleasure of actually being in southeastern France...but then with one "e" it brings you right back to 6th Avenue.

I won't despair, however, because when it comes to pretty, scented soaps and Terax shampoos, Avignone has my back. Each time I enter this beautiful pharmacy I wonder why I still go to Duane Reade, CVS and Walgreen's at all. Really, the brands carried by Avignone are all premium. The lighting is bright but gentle unlike those depressing fluorescent behemoths. The aisles are filled with household items, cleaning supplies, medicines, vitamins, beauty products, candles...all so gorgeously packaged and clean that you want to scoop them up into your arms and take them home to play. I've gone in here on more than one occasion to buy a comb or something benign like that and walked out with two bags of goodies. Now that's what I call retail therapy.

Avignone Pharmacy makes me feel like I live in a small town where everyone, even the local pharmacist, knows me.  In reality, Avignone is in the middle of the hustle and bustle of 6th Avenue, but when you step inside it's like another world.  Everyone who works here is so incredibly friendly, personable and helpful.  They always remember you, what medications you're taking, if they've spoken to your doctor, etc.  Not to mention, wait times are about ten minutes from dropping your script off to walking out the door again.  I'm so lucky it's right by my apartment because I'd go here even if it wasn't.  Best pharmacy in NYC!

I will never patronize another NY pharmacy/drug store again.  I also will stop ordering my Mario Badescu products online.  They have literally the full product line.  Life changing experience coming here.  And that is not hyperbole.

For many years I used to live in the West Village and walked to Avignone.  Now, just like one of the other reviewers, I drive back to NYC, from Brooklyn, simply to get my prescriptions and any other beauty products. And can you believe, if I can't find parking, the pharmacist's assistant comes out of the store to hand me my prescription through the car window. They listen to special requests, make phone calls to follow up and generally treat you like a valued human being. They are just the very best.

Avoid all those horrible drugstore chains with their baffling layouts and zombie-like staff and patronize this place instead! Everything is easy to find and the staff is friendly. I really do hate those chains and I don't want this place to go out of business, so shop here!

Amazing selection, clean organized and pleasant store, and the best pharmacists I've encountered anywhere. Unless I left New York (or need something after hours) I can't imagine why I'd ever patronize another pharmacy again.

Wonderful pharmacy with a great selection of holistic and organic goods as well. Intelligent pharmacist and helpful staff.

I've never had a problem there. It reminds me of the old-fashioned pharmacy I grew up with. I'm so glad I don't feed my money to mega-chains like Duane Reade, Walgreens, CVS, Whole Foods, et al...

A True Neighborhood Pharmacy! If you like being treated like a human being then this place is for you. The assistance with what I needed was thorough, courteous and caring. I had a cast on my leg and this is only pharmacy in NY that had a cast protector for the shower. Remember when pharmacies had what you needed? This is a great place that deserves patronage.

All I have to say is why do people continue to patronize places like Duane Reade and Bigelow when they can go to Avignone. They are the best in customer service and professionalism. I don't know what I would do without them except probably complain about the lack of a decent pharmacy in this city.

I can not say enough about this wonderful pharmacy. I used to live in Greenwich Village and I now travel from far flung Brooklyn to have my prescriptions filled. The pharmacy staff are very efficient, do everything with great dispatch, very accommodating and as NICE as NICE gets. Two of the most pleasant people you will ever encounter behind the druggists counter, they are in EVERY way a most excellent and professional team and, I CAN NOT say this often enough, as lovely, kind and friendly. A well deserved 6 stars, without a scintilla of doubt in my mind.
