We stayed at the Hyatt and looked forward to playing Aviara Golf Club. All the reviews made it sound as though the golf course was terrific. Having played most of the great courses in America and Scotland, I would rate Aviara no better than an average resort course.
The layout is good, but it is not in first class shape...The fee to play is in excess of $220 and it just isn't worth it. My review would probably be a 4 star if the green fees were no more than $150. For $200 plus, I expect better course condition, so on that basis alone, I would pass on playing it again.
For $275 you can move down the road 15 miles and play Torrey Pines...that is a 5 star experience. Or play La Costa for probably not much more, but I haven't played there for over 10 years, so not sure if it is in tip top shape anymore. Aviara certainly isn't. -

I've had a chance to play all of the prominent public courses in the San Diego area and Aviara ranks, in my opinion, at the top. Superb course conditioning, an interesting and challenging layout and top-notch customer service. Plus it is extremely attractive
I don't think any course is worth more than $200/round. But suck it up and play Aviara. You won't be sorry. -

This is definitely a 5 Star golfing experience. It's absolutely beautiful. The staff is so nice, the complimentary cookies and fruit are delicious, the drinks are strong, and the grounds are spectacular. It's expensive, but what a treat! The Golf Carts have GPS and they tell you exactly how far you are away from each hole! The locker rooms are fully stocked with everything you could ever need, and there's even a guy who drives around and hands out tootsie roll pops!
It's on the lagoon, so it can get chilly! Bring something warm if you have an afternoon tee time, and since it's coastal, it can get breezy (the ONLY downfall). -

Aviara is an excellent golfing experience.
Service staff was very friendly and helpful. From the time we parked our car, they came to us and picked up and loaded our bags. The pro shop folks were friendly and cheerful.
The course was in great shape. Green grass everywhere, nice looking ponds, greens well taken care of. The undulations in both the fairways and greens really make Aviara a special and unique course.
We took advantage of the twilight rate which, while still pricey, was totally worth it.Listed in: Golf

Absolutely worth every penny!!!
Top notch service from the moment you park your car. The driving range is beautiful and is fully stocked with towels, bamboo tees, water... you name it.
Fruit and cookies greet you as the starter preps you for the course ahead.
The course is absolutely gorgeous and you can tell that they take a lot of time and effort to maintain the course conditions. GPS on the carts was great and showed all of the features of each hole.
The restaurant, The Argyle, is awesome too.... -

The question is not whether this is a nice golf course or not. It is nice...the people I dealt with were friendly.
Price - I am new to SoCal so I don't a lot about prices here. I don't think it was a $215 dollar value which is what I paid. The greens were nice except for some that had recently been re-worked. The started did tell me that was the case so he was forthcoming. Some of the fairways had a lot of bare spots in regular landing areas. I played golf in Scottsdale over New Years and I played on courses that were just as nice for half the price of Aviara.
It is nice and I would happily play it again for a reduced rate. -

Beautiful course and great staff. It looks like they spend a lot of money on keeping the golf course in perfect condition. Twilight rate is a very good deal.
