Introduce your bunny to Dr. Rosskopf!

I was a little skeptical about the location, but once I met Dr. Rosskopf, I was sold. It is a little pricey compared to an average vet (it's $67 for a visit) but you are truly paying for the quality of care, which is unbeatable.  Dr. Rosskopf has seen my little bunny 3 times now (once after a concussion and another time for an eye infection) and he is ALWAYS so, so gentle with little Amigo. He doesn't grab Amigo, but just directs him and he talks to him in a very soothing voice. Also, when he weighs Amigo he places him in a little bowl, which is super cute. Rosskopf is always calm and I actually feel like he cares about Amigo. His extremely knowledgable and clearly has a ton of experience with bunnies. While he's checking out Amigo, he always tells me exactly what he's doing, what he's looking for, and drops random, but helpful knowledge.  The receptionist has a bunny as well so whenever I call, I usually run my questions by her and she helps me decide if I should bring in Amigo or not.

Prior to Dr. Rosskopf, I went to a general vet and I honestly can tell there is a difference in the level of care and experience.  The other vet was kind, but I didn't really get the same feeling of relief--I would usually leave and then run to my computer to double check everything.

I wouldn't take Amigo to anyone but Dr. Rosskopf now.

I was looking for a reliable exotic vet for my 7 year-old chinchilla Pikachu when she suffered a laceration wound to her cheek. In all 7 years I've had her this was the first time she's ever been remotely sick so I really wanted someone reliable who was very familiar with chinchillas (not many of them out there). Hawthorne is definitely out of the way for me but I chose Dr. Rosskopf based on his positive Yelp reviews. Dr. Rosskopf was indeed very gentle and kind to my 7 year-old chinchilla. He weighed her in a bowl which was attached to a scale; thought that was smart and so adorable! He complimented me on how sociable and friendly she was because I guess a lot of the chinchillas he sees are mean/neurotic. He also mentioned besides her wound, she was in amazing shape for her age, which made me feel like I had taken good care of her all these years. The doctor was informative, friendly, and seemed like he had a genuine interest in helping my pet. He gave me some antibiotics to administer to her at home. The office visit was about $54 and with the medicine the total came out to around $70. She made a full recovery. I was so relieved! Dr. Rosskopf is definitely my go-to vet for my chinchilla.

Dr. Rosskopf is the best! I originally found out about him because my (ex) boyfriend had a bunny - so I took my dog into Dr. Rosskopf. He's really amazing. He quickly diagnosed my dog's back injury (when an emergency hospital vet failed to do so). And he was compassionate after my dog was in a fight. The rates are reasonable, and considering the quality and expertise of care, well worth it! I will admit the facilities are not top notch, but Dr. Rosskopf care and knowledge more than make up for it. I really, really hope he doesn't retire for a long, long time.

Dr. Rosskopf has been our bunny vet for years and he is excellent! He has our complete trust because he always diagnoses our rabbits with care, effeciency and thoroughness. Dr. Rosskopf is always friendly, knowledgeable and we can see that he truly cares for our animals. He never overmedicates and his prices are very reasonable. We love our vet and we would highly recommend him!

Brought my cockatiel here for his 1st check-up.  Needless to say I was pretty nervous about the whole drawing blood from my little super sweet 3.0 ounce bird!  But all went well and although the the little guy was tired after his check-up he didn't seem distressed by the experience.

The staff was kind and helpful and they kept my appointment with no waiting.  Dr. Rosskopf was very gentle, knowledgable and patient.  He answered all my questions and passed on some of his extensive knowledge to me.  I have an Albino Cockatiel and the Dr. shared some information on genetic challenges that they face, which was new to me even after all the research I have done.  He took the time to explain what the check-up would entail and how the procedures where done.  He recommended the appropriate tests etc...  He also discouraged me from spending money on DNA sexing at this time as he was 90% sure he was a male.   The test results were prompt, went in on a Saturday and they phoned me with the results on Monday around 4:00.

Additionally the appointment before me was for a 44 year old Amazon Parrot.   The owner was was super nice and told me many wonderful stories about Dr. Rosskopf, one of which was that he had saved their little cockatiel after it had been mauled by a cat.

Overall as other reviewers have posted the location is a little odd and the office isn't super new and shiny but the service and knowledge that Dr. Rosskopf and staff offer far outweigh those superficial things.

I initially went to Dr. Rosskopf because he's the only vet in the area that takes care of guinea pigs--but if there were 100 guinea pig doctors, I would still go to him.  What makes him so incredible is that he is skilled and compassionate, but he is also practical.  He's seen my guinea pig Scruffy over the years for nail clippings and teeth trimmings.  Recently I brought her in because she seemed partially paralyzed--after examining her, he told me she'd broken her arm (I had no idea...she never complained) and it had healed crooked.  That was why she couldn't move.  Even as I reeled with guilt - yeah, I stood there in tears in his office -I also worried this was going to be really expensive.  I assumed he was going to recommend surgery - re-breaking the arm and setting it, and I didn't know what I was going to do.  This is an 8-year-old guinea pig, which is probably about 90 in human years, but I love her.  His recommendation showed a mix of sensibility with sensitivity:  give her a low-dose of long-term daily pain meds and keep her comfortable.  He spent a good long time assuring me that I'd given her a good, long life and if I was willing to do the work to keep her comfortable, she could continue to live her life as long as she's meant to live it.  THANK YOU SO MUCH DR. ROSSKOPF FOR GIVING ME THIS WONDERFUL, HAPPY TIME WITH SCRUFFY!!!!  I can't recommend him highly enough.  By the way, his staff is also wonderful.

Please READ if you have a pocket pet e.g. hamster, rat, rabbit, gerbil, mouse, or birds.

I've had hamsters for many years.  Over 10 years, I have YET to find a good vet who is qualified to treat rodents or rabbits.  Most vets either specialize in cats or dogs and in my experience, these are the worst vets for your pocket pets.  They know nothing about rodent health.

One morning, I woke up to find that my hamster has an intestinal prolapse (intestine sticking out of rectum).  He was in pain and bleeding badly.  After many frantic calls, I finally get referred to Dr. Rosscopf.

Initially, the receptionist told me that it was too late to schedule an appointment since ER hours are from 9 am to noon.  I cried and begged and she allowed me to bring my baby in at around closing time.

She took one look at my hammie and admitted him immediately.  But there was no guarantee that the vet would examine him.  Hammie may have to wait till next morning!

I called first thing in the morning and the doctor took my call.  He explained that he performed ER surgery on my hamster that very evening.  But the intestine came out again.  After examining my options,  Dr. Rosscopf agreed to put my hammie to sleep with a gas mask (I refuse further injections).

I was prepared for a HUGE bill.  But was only charged $180.  That included ER surgery and euthanasia.  This may seem a lot.  BUT in comparison, I was charged $800 for a previous ER visit to a crappy vet and $200 for follow up care (see my other review).

The doctor was very kind and the staff very caring.  They packed my hammie's items and prepared his body for pick up.

Although I am very sad that my hammie passed away, I strongly recommend  Dr. Rosscopf.  It is very hard to find a specialist in Los Angeles who would not snub your pocket pet.

The hospital isn't much to look at and seems rundown.  But who cares.  During my visit, I saw many parrots and rats.  The owners seems pleased about the quality of care (one rat owner was collecting her pet after tumor surgery).

Dr. Rosscopf 's prices are very reasonable compared to some of the vets I've seen in the more fashionable parts of town.  Please consult him if you pet needs medical attention.  Pocket pets deserve the best care.  Just because they cost less than a dog or cat doesn't mean that they should regarded as less of a pet.

I will continue to have hamsters and will bring them to  Dr. Rosscopf  for medical care.

I originally gave Dr. Rosskopf a mixed review; while the doctor was  warm, had a kind voice, treated my bird gently and immediately convinced me he knows what he's talking about, the condition of the office bothered me.  The paint was very old, the pictures very sun bleached, etc.  It made me doubt the cleanliness; however, the next time I went, everything had been fixed up, and after a second great appointment, I knew that I'd judged too harshly.

My sweetie had been having a problem with her wing for months, and I'd brought her to another vet a couple times; the problem would go away, and then return a month later.  Dr. Rosskopf took Dixie into the back for a bit, fixed her up, and then came back and gave me a thorough, layperson's explanation of what the problem was, even drawing me a little diagram!  He said there was a chance Dixie would pick at her wing and we'd have to put a collar on her, but nope: the problem was solved.

There's no question the doctor is very qualified to treat birds.  He's one of 70 certified avian specialists in the country, and he's been a vet for a quite a while; the diploma in my exam room said he graduated in 1969.  He came VERY highly recommended and I know is respected by a variety of animal societies.  There was a lot of stuff on the walls from his patients and their human companions: photos, holiday cards, thank you letters, even posthumous letters from pets being thankful for all the care they'd received.  It would seem Dr. Rosskopf also treats a lot of bunnies and iguanas.

If Dixie has any problem again, I wouldn't hesitate to bring her back, PLUS, if your birdie needs a wing/nail trim, they don't charge you for a whole exam.

I'm so fortunate to have Dr. Rosskopf for my vet.  He is so extremely knowledgeable, kind and gentle.  If only more doctors that treat people were that way!

If you have a pet bird, you need to have it cared for by an avian vet.  Not just any vet -- an avian vet.  It's critically important because regular veterinarians just don't have the very specific knowledge needed to treat your feathered companion.  There aren't many around, but Dr. Rosskopf is definitely among the best of the best in the nation.  People drive from hundreds of miles to bring their animals to him.

Please know that health care for your pet here isn't cheap.  There are no payment plans they can offer you because too many people have skipped out on them when they used to allow it.  That being said, if you can't afford health care for your pet, you shouldn't have one anyway.

I've referred other people to Dr. Rosskopf and absolutely every one of them have come back with raving reviews.  He listens carefully, explains things well, and treats your animal correctly and with kindness.

Also, he has a wonderful office staff who have been equally as supportive and accommodating.

If you love your bird or other exotic, you'll give them the best care possible.  And that is with Dr. Rosskopf.

My cockatiel had a run in with my husky and I was freaking out. The only reason I'm not giving them a five star is because I had to call like 8 times before someone picked up. There answering machine says they don't do walk ins and and I was just about to take him somewhere else before I got through. They said because of the emergency bring him in and they'll squeeze me in between patients. They were super helpful, and had no problem repeatedly explaining care instructions since I could hardly pay attention I was so distraught. I didn't see the Dr because I didn't have an appointment but h e took care of my little baby, and I was very impressed with the office are and one care room I saw. A little pricey I thought, but I wouldn't be able to compare since I've never gone to any other vets with this type of situation. Definitely, don't judge this book by its cover.

I am extremely happy with the care my Amazon parrot receives from Avian & Exotic and from Dr. Rosskopf.

Dr. Rosskopf is kind and gentle with the animals. He recommends procedures but doesn't push them on you. Being one of the foremost avian vets in the country (if not THE best avian vet in the country), he is totally up on new meds and procedures.

Do not make judgements based on the office, as it's on a main road tucked in next to a strip club. The front desk as well as the vet assistance are all nice and know what they are talking about.

Appointments can be hard to make as the office is closed on Wednesdays and appointments fill up. So if you have something routine, best to book a few days/week out.

If you have questions on your exotic bird, you can also try Karen Allen, the owner of Birds & More bird store. Many years ago she worked at Avian & Exotic and is a good resource if you cannot get a hold of Dr. Rosskopf.

I have taken my African Grey parrot here for the past 4 years now, and Dr. Woerpel (who is no longer there) and both Dr. Rosskopf healed him.  After hopping around from various vets who couldn't resolve my parrot's health problems, Avian & Exotic doctors took me in so quickly, and worked on Keani, religiously followed up with test reports and always got back to me with results, and plans of action.

I agree with Amy K., the office is in need of some TLC - and could use some updating.  However, the main reason that I'm there is to keep my pet healthy, and this gets accomplished.

My pets are in great hands with Avian & Exotic - I trust Dr. Rosskopf completely.  If you have birds - this is the only place to go.

Dr. Rosskopf is an avian vet, and after graduating from UC Davis, he previously worked with many birds that were imported during the early 70s.  His years of experience make him one of the best specialists in veterinary medicine.

I am so happy with Dr. Rosskopf! He treated my rat's abscess recently, and I am really pleased.

My rat's face swelled up in a matter of hours on a weekend. The usual clinic that we go to only has one vet that treats rodents, and he was not going to be in until Monday. I did not want to wait, and remembered that a friend recommended Dr. Rosskopf to me about a year ago.

Since I hadn't seen Dr. Rosskopf before, I wasn't 100% sure about him (not many vets know enough about rats). So, I did my research before the appointment, consulting with other rat owners who had been in similar situations as me. Dr. Rosskopf mentioned some key things that were consistent with what many other rat owners have considered to be the best option, so I felt sure that he could take care of my baby.

After the appointment, I *so* wish I had gone with my friend's recommendation from the beginning. Beside being competent and knowledgeable about rats, Dr. Rosskopf is soft-spoken, gentle, and caring. The atmosphere in the exam room was calm, not scary or on-edge. When my rat got scared while being weighed, and peed all over the scale, Dr. Rosskopf kept on reassuring me that it was ok. He even apologized to my rat right before giving him a shot! Not that our usual vet isn't good, but I like Dr. Rosskopf so much better!

I liked that Dr. Rosskopf talked me through different possible diagnoses, before telling me what the final verdict is. He also laid out the treatment options for me before giving his professional opinion for the best course of treatment. Overall, he was very professional, gentle, and understanding.

We are definitely going back to Dr. Rosskopf for future medical needs.

I brought my rabbit here to get neutered and it was an overwhelmingly positive experience.

When I called to make the appointment, I was given all the information up-front about how much it would cost so there would be no surprises.

Dr. Rosskopf was very kind  and gentle, taking the time to talk to me about my rabbit during the pre-procedure checkup. My rabbit is normally a little skittish, but was very calm with Dr. Rosskopf.

When I came to pick my rabbit up at the end of the day, he was very calm, with no signs of discomfort or stress.  The staff gave me very clear instructions on how to administer his post-procedure medication. And the bill was exactly as I was quoted, with no unexpected charges.

I would like to thank YELP for bringing this excellent vet to my attention. Without these great and informative yelp reviews, I would have no idea where to bring my rabbit.

I rarely give five-star reviews, but this place more than earned it.

I first noticed how janky and smelly the place was. Seriously.

And then I noticed how AWESOME Dr. Rosskopf is!!! He treated my guinea pig with the utmost care, and made me feel at ease because quite frankly, I was freaking out a little bit. I kept getting down on myself for not preventing my piggie's injury from happening... Dr. Rosskopf just kept reassuring me that everything will be okay and didn't judge me for being a "bad mommy". Best of all, he knew EXACTLY what he was talking about, and didn't do any unnecessary procedures. I'm so glad that after 3 years of living here, I've finally found a veterinarian that I fully trust.

I cannot say enough good things about this Dr. Rosskopf and his staff. He has been helping my green-cheek conure deal with sinus troubles and I'm convinced that all the money in the world wouldn't get me better care than this. Don't let the stripper store next door or the location throw you. (I drive about 45 minutes to see Dr. Rosskopf.)

As the others have said, he has a very gentle way with animals -- and their owners. He's an interesting guy and will really take the time to talk to you so that you understand the risks and options in treating your pet. He will tell you *everything* you need to know about your bird's problem. He'll give your pet the most empathetic apology after a shot or unpleasant treatment, and you can tell he means it, which is really kinda endearing.

Above and beyond all this, his staff talked me down off the ceiling when I was having trouble injecting my lil' friend with antibiotics. I was in tears and they encouraged me not to give up. They suggested I come in and let them help me learn how to do it better. I probably called them 10 times that week and Irene was always reassuring and understanding. These guys are THE BEST. (This vet is so good, he prompted me to write my first Yelp review!)

If Hawthorne is too far from you, I can also recommend Dr. Annelise Spira on Venice in Culver City. She referred me to Dr. Rosskopf when my bird wasn't responding to her treatment. Don't take that the wrong way -- she is also very good avian vet. I had a hard time finding a bird vet when I first moved here, so I'm mentioning them both.

For the unaware, Avian & Exotic is *the* exotic animal specialty hospital in So. Cal, and has been for MANY years.  There may be others now (maybe in OC) but this hospital is the grandpappy.  You will NOT find more experienced avian vets in L.A. County.  Period.

I had a parrot many years ago -- found him in a park with the quarantine band still on.  He was a true illegal alien.  I took him to Avian & Exotic and for seven years received the BEST medical care.  He eventually passed away.  His little immune system was tuned to South America and he wasn't used to the 'bugs' we had here.  A terrible respiratory virus did him in.

Dr. Woerpel actually cried on the phone when he told me my little guy had passed away.  I still remember that -- twelve years later.

Please don't ever retire Dr. Rosskopf!!  We have been bringing our parrots here since we got them 6 years ago and I wouldn't go anywhere else (I have had to a few times and NO one beats Dr. Rosskopf).

He has a great bedside manner and spends time with his patients (and their owners).  We've had lots of ups and downs with our parrots and he has always been there for us.  He's calm and very well informed and most importantly....he does not nickle and dime people (unlike another avian vet from the OC that I shall leave unnamed).

The office isn't super fancy or modern, but don't let that concern you.  The care you get here for your pets is top-notch.  Now if only he was a doctor for humans too......

Dr. Walter rosskopf's assistant is the rudest, nastiest living thing I encountered in a business place.

There was a misunderstanding about appointment time and she accused me of being on drugs! She threatened to cut me off & "i am not welcomed at that place to treat my chinchillas"he there were 2 people there waiting. She is a " know it all" over the phone. She is condescending saying " I don't know what I am doing" or calling me STUPID.

It's ashamed She put me in a place to leave because I adore the doctor & has been there since 2005.

If you love your exotic pet like we do, you can appreciate the headache of finding a trustworthy exotic pet vet.  It's crazy, and you often have to go through a lot of misadventures with undertrained general vets before you find someone who really knows what they're doing.

That was me, in 2004.  My cockatiel had a constellation of weird symptoms and I had been to two supposed bird experts in OC, one of whom was so rude and ineffective I gave him up.  The other was very trigger-happy about opening up my little bird on the basis of, well, as it turns out, nothing.  I subsequently found out this guy has a reputation, county-wide, summarized by a co-worker as:  "oh, him?  He kills rabbits."

Enter Dr Rosskopf.  I took my bird to Dr Walt for a second opinion after the he-kills-rabbits dr suggested diagnostic surgery on my cockatiel.  Dr Walt was so kind and gentle in every way...the outcome of that first visit was along the lines of "I really don't think anything serious is going on, but let's do a few tests".   He was so so so kind and sweet, I literally cried on the drive home, as I phoned my spouse to tell him what happened.

Over the following three years, I took my bird back many times for periodic check-ups.  The early tests showed hypothyroidism, so we'd go back quarterly to see if there was any self-correction happening or if it was serious enough to medicate.  The dr always took pains to do blood draws thru the toenail rather than the neck (a source of debate among birdie vets; I thoroughly subscribe to the toenail approach).  Dr Walt was ever-kind and gentle and always gave me as much time as I wanted.

I have since moved out of state (and have a new nice vet who used to intern for Dr Walt) but I continue to hear from Dr Walt periodically via snail mail.  I honestly consider him part of my family.   I love him like a devoted uncle.

If you can get an appointment, no matter what kind of pet you have, GO SEE HIM.

I have had red-eared slider turtles for 15 yrs.  They are pretty low maintenance.  One day, my turtle was upside down on the bottom of the pond and bleeding from her nose.  I kept her inside and didn't think she'd make it thru the night.  Come morning, she was alive and very swollen.  I took her to Dr Rosskopf, not knowing anything other than he treated exotic animals.  Can you believe he saved my turtle?  He gave me a cocktail of injections to give her and told me to be cautiously optimistic.  3 yrs later, the turtle is still her with us and we are so incredibly greatful for the availablity of such a great, great doctor.  Truly appreciative!

We brought my son's guinea pig in for a skin condition and received excellent service. I called into the office in the morning and was able to get an appointment the same day. The receptionist gave me an estimate over the phone so that I could be prepared for the cost before coming in (starting at $53 for the exam with additional costs for medication treatment that could total up to $100-$150 depending on the severity of the condition). The doctor was soft spoken and very gentle. Our pet had been extra jumpy and twitchy due to his skin condition, but the doctor was able to handle him without a fuss or squeak. All was calm. The doctor fully explained our pet's condition (mange mites) and treatment (mite medication and anit-biotics) and effectively answered any questions I had. Plus, he clipped our pet's nails. We left paying a total of $89 which was well under the original estimate. It was a perfect experience.

Receptionist problem....yes, I must admit. It is like the first 'entrance exam' you must pass before you experience heaven. (though don't take me wrong, she did care about my bird when I lost him, tried to help me as much as she could)

True the place is not very brand-new or relaxing, but as far as I am concerned, I am perfectly okay with such condition as long as Dr. Rosskopf can take care of my babies.

I had been worried about my baby bird's frustrated attitude when I first got her, and Dr. Rosskopf found giardia in her stool, which caused her itchiness and her bad mood. (100% cured!)
Next time, my parrotlet bit off electric code and caused small explosion, which resulted in small crack in his beek...and it was a day before Thanksgiving. Dr. told me to come down immediately although he was fully booked, and he squeeze me in so he can check him during lunchtime.
Last but not least, the same parrotlet suddenly stopped eating, not moving at all. I freaked out and called him, and he told me to come down first thing in the morning. He was found with fungus in his belly that caused digestive problems. Dr. Rosskopf told me there was no treatment until very recently, and assured me he will be fine.

I must admit, the bill didn't come out cheap. But weighing the possibility I might have lost my babies without him, I have no problem going back to him and doing routine checks every so often.

He is very knowledgeable and helpful. He has answered a lot of my questions, and does not hesitate to enlighten/educate me when I come up with dumb questions.

I am very happy with Dr. Rosskopf's service. I have taken my rabbits there and he has done a good job taking care of their problems. I am also very grateful for that he does not recommend any procedures unless they are necessary. Dr. R is a soft-spoken, patient, and caring vet. He is also highly recommended by a well-established rabbit rescue group in Southern California. I definitely recommend his clinic, especially if you have exotics like rabbits, birds, tortoise...etc.

Dr. Rosskopf is the BEST vet for rabbits. I've been through many vets in different states and he is by far the best vet I've met for caring rabbits. I've never owned any other types of animals so I can only speak of his skills for bunnies. He is very knowledgeable and patient with my animal. My rabbit is extremely feisty however when I take her to see Dr. R, she seems very much relaxed and at ease even when being examined. The cost is lower than other places. The only drawback is that they are not open everyday of the week.

If you care about your pet, take it to Dr. Rosskopf and his exceptional staff.  Knowledgeable and compassionate, Dr. Rosskopf has consistently impressed me with his ability to diagnose & treat my pets, his awareness of recent advances in avian and exotic medicine, his honesty in advising the BEST course of treatment and most effective tests (instead of trying to sell the most expensive), and his patience in listening to and addressing all of my concerns.

The exam rooms are literally smothered - from top to bottom - with newspaper articles, pictures, letters, and numerous tokens of gratitude from other pet owners, which are testament to decades of 5-star reviews before Yelp ever came into existence.  He has helped us through numerous situations from beak injuries (my husband and I were relieved to see him quoted in the book "The Parrot in Health and Illness" under the beak injury section when trying to give our bird first aid!) to aspergillosis to breeding concerns.

Our pets will be loyal patients of Dr. Rosskopf for many years to come.

I highly, highly recommend this clinic to anyone who has a pet rodent, reptile or bird.  Dr. Rosscopf is amazingly patient and gentle with animals, and takes a more holistic approach to illness.  He spent nearly half an hour with me listening and explaining my rabbit's health problems, and then suggested a course of treatment that took into account my pet's age and overall quality of life.  The staff is also extremely knowledgeable about animals, which is a big plus.  Keep in mind that there's only one doctor there, so be sure to schedule ahead of time.  This place rocks!

Brought in a baby bird that had been brought into my house by my cat. While I was satisfied they agreed to take the bird to see if they could help it, I was extremely offput by the repeated (at least 5 attempts) to hit me up for money to pay for the bird. This wasn't a pet bird, but most likely a baby pigeon.

I give them a thumbs up for taking the bird and, apparently, calling animal control to pick it up as well as begrudingly agreeing to give it antibiotics so it didn't die.

I give them a thumbs down for aggressively hitting me up for a "donation." And, I give them another thumbs down for claiming I was a bad pet owner for "letting my cat out to attack birds." Patently ridiculous accusation that bothered me enough to cause me sign up for yelp to leave this feedback.

I would not use this hospital. I was left with the impression they were more interested in money than saving animals.

I would give it a 1 star but I didn't get to see the vet and so I can't go all the way to 1 star, in fact I didn't make it past the receptionist. which is already a bad sign. I got there late, but i called to check if it was ok. They said that I would miss out on some of my time there. When I finally got there I filled in the registration (by the way as far as I'm concerned any paper work that isn't loan related shouldn't have questions about my bank information).  As I was rushing to fill out he paper work they fired off all these questions at once, so fast that I barely was able to answer all of them. One of the questions that they asked was who my last vet was and why I left them, so I told them that for a rabbit its too expensive to pay $50 for a regular check up. Then they tell me that its a shocking $66 for my rabbit and $53 for my hamster!!! WHAT!!!?!!?!?!?! I nearly fainted (and for those who know me I'm not the fainting type). They then ask me if I asked how much it is before setting up the appointment. I said I had heard about the good reviews from Yelp and that they were reasonable priced (I would rather go to Dr. Kopit in Fountain Valley for $20). The girl behind the counter grills me about if the reviews said how much and how long ago the reviews were. Then she goes on to make it my fault for not asking (Look yes I should have asked but don't make me feel bad for not doing that and if your so expensive then warn people). The last thing that happens as I leave is that she tells me is that I won't find anyone that will charge less and I tell her that there is do as I leave is a vet that I've been to that is $20 for a regular checkup, she acts self righteous and asks if that for a procedure and I said no then she acts all happy (like her $66 includes a procedure too, I don't think so). I am never coming back here again. Too expensive and rude receptionist.

My ex-boyfriend bought me a beautiful blue & gold macaw parrot. Another ex bought me an iguana. (Dont ask why the exotic pets, I dont know myself) I  used to take both here, and they are wonderful.  They really understand exotic animals and taught me a lot.  My bird was especially sensitive, and they would file his nails/clip his wings and hand him back with him showing minimal stress.  He seemed to know he was in good hands. Nice that they are here in the southbay area.

I took my cockatiel here when we first got her.  Dr. Rosskopf was recommended by a lady that I got in touch with that does cockatiel rescue.  He was great!  My girl has been really healthy and hasn't needed much in the way of vet care, so I haven't been back for awhile.  But, we are going away on a vacation and we are having a friend watch her and her companion while we are gone.  Before we go, I want to make sure that our birdsitter has Dr. Rosskopf's info just incase.  I couldn't find Dr. Rosskopf's info by doing a google seach because I couldn't remember how to spell his name.  Thank you Yelp for helping me to find this wonderful vet again.  And about the condition of his offices, I want a vet who spends his time focused on care, not on decorating.  I think his office space has the requisite charm that a vet office should have.  When an office is too slick to me that indicates that the priority is not in the right place.  And the cost gets passed onto the customer.  Keep it the way it is.
