My wife and I stayed at the Avia for a close friends 70th birthday party. It is one of the most well run hotels i have stayed at. Everyone on staff were friendly and professional. A special thanks to the manager, Taisha and Clinton who made the best egg white omlettes I have ever had. It is a spotlessly clean hotel, and every detail is thought out. I work in customer service, so this was a easy place to relax. It is also located in the center of Savanah which makes it easy to walk to everything. We had king deluxe and there is plenty of room, the bed was really comfortable.
Room Tip: get a room facing the fountain park, 3rd floor up. -

Ohhh Avia, how I wanted to love you. Admittedly, the central downtown Savannah location and stylish yet whimsical decor wooed me after a 24 hour delay at DFW. (A curse upon American Airlines and all their brethren). I'll give you one star for the incredibly friendly front staff. Wink to you Jordan. However, I will NEVER stay here again. Here's why:
1) Maid service doesn't come by until 3 or 4 pm. And when they do show up, they don't really clean the bathroom. On the second day, I couldn't let it slide anymore. I called the front desk, they sent up a crew while we went out for a walk. Only to return to find out that it was still dirty. I made another call and actually watched them to make sure they actually cleaned this time around.
2) Maybe it was the lack of bathroom cleaning, but I swear a funky odor was coming from the air vents at night.
3) Drum roll please.....my mom and I both walked away with food poisoning that we traced to the sliders we shared in the hotel restaurant on our last night. We both spent 2+ days miserably ill.
Savannah is a beautiful town, but please don't spoil the fun by staying here. -

We could not have chosen a better place to spend our first trip to this spectacular city, and for our wedding anniversary at that! The staff is just the berries, and the rooms are sublime. Let me plug a couple of highlights, one for the bar and the other the Concierge. The bar staff are just awesome, and I personally appreciate the ample selection of Scotch on hand. Who can argue w/ a bar that provides candied bacon to snack on?!? As for the concierge, ours for this stay was a charming lady who was able to pull off last-minute reservations for dinner at The Olde Pink House, which is unheard of as I understand things!
We will return to this place for certain! -

A few years ago I spent New Years here. Really modern, comfortable rooms with clean and updated bathrooms. It's in a great location (a block away from the riverfront) that happens to be within walking distance of almost everything.
My main complaint is that the rooms are a little too dark. You don't come to Savannah to sit in your room, but I wish they'd invest a tad more in brightening up the space. I mean it's super dark--in both the lobby and the room. That being said, I'd stay again at AVIA Hotel. -

AVIA is a great choice to stay in Savannah, as you are right in the heart of the city and market. (One word of caution: they are doing a lot of construction next door, so it's best to get a room that doesn't face that way.)
The staff was fabulous as well, and they gave us a ton of great suggestions for places to visit.
The rooms were on the smaller side but still clean and nicely decorated. But my favorite had to be the bed, which was so comfortable I passed out on it within 4 minutes of sitting down. -

Positives:
The room was A+. Grand Studio Hosting room.
Location is amazing.
They found, and sent(at my expense), the clothing my girlfriend left in the room.
Negatives:
I called ahead since I was arriving early, and was told checking in early was no problem. They still didn't check me in until after 5(check in at 4), 7 hours after I got there. I understand waiting for a few hours, this not so much.
I feel the price was a little high, I did really like the room, but I think it was probably worth 100 less a night in reality. I did book off the their site, and did not try one of the discounters.
Late check out was only one extra hour, half room rate for longer. I was totally unclear from my discussion with the front desk how much longer the half room rate got you. Though I had been in a bar on the river all day so......
I'd book again, maybe try to sniff out a discount price online though. -

I stayed here on my honeymoon with my new husband. We got one of the 1 bedroom hosting suites as a little treat to ourselves, which was very nice. Not that we really used the kitchen area much, but it was nice to have a fridge and microwave and full sink etc.
The bed was sooo comfortable, I wanted to take it home. The staff here was very very polite (maybe because I am used to New Englander attitudes or something) and I loved the touch of chocolates and water left on the beds every afternoon.
The room was very nice, but we didn't experience much else in the hotel. It was raining the whole time, so we never made it to the pool, though I could see it out my window, and it did look very nice. We also never went to the bar or the restaurant.
The only downside was that for a very expensive hotel, not much was included. I wanted a cup of decaf tea one night so my husband asked the front desk if they had any (all that was in the room was caffienated), they sent him to the bar, and the bar tender gave him a bag of mint tea and then charged him $3 for it; didn't even make it in a mug with hot water, just the plain bag of tea! Just stuff like that.
But overall, a very nice, posh place. -

Small but good room. Nice (modern) decor. Great location. But these people don't know how to run a hotel. Look, this place bills itself--and charges--as a luxury boutique hotel, and with that come certain expectations about the service. And yet the service here was extremely curt and unfriendly--the opposite of Southern hospitality--that became downright rude when we needed a replacement key for the one that had stopped working. Desk lady decided to blame us for ruining the key! Who cares! Just replace the key. Instead we were fussed about it--especially over my drivers' license--to the point that I wondered if the staff were being discriminatory in treating me as a common criminal for the great infraction of my keycard ceasing to work properly.
And we were awoken every day by extremely loud hammering and drilling from the live construction site directly across the narrow street. It starts at 7am and continues through the day. There was absolutely no warning about this.
And the fire alarm light blinked in the room for the final two days of our stay. It didn't get fixed and we gave up trying.
Being here on our honeymoon, we simply expected better. I don't plan to return and can't recommend this place for anyone. -

FABULOUS PLACE TO STAY!
+Service excellent; concierge will go above and beyond to help you book any tour or find a location on the map. Front desk always friendly; riding the elevator with a staff member was a treat. Defines southern hospitality.
+Beautiful pool, w bar service nearby. Relaxing music is played throughout outdoor area. Only concern is that I wish there had been more lounge chairs (probably only about 6 w two cabanas).
+Room are uniquely decorated.
+Location: close to river front, famous restaurants, and notable squares/architectures. -

When I first visited Avia Savannah I absolutely LOVED the style of the hotel. I found it new and trendy still with southern antique charm. From the lobby, to the pool, to the guest rooms, the place is spectacular. It's a very unique hotel.
I really hoped I would be able to make hotel reservations there, but little did I know I would soon be planning my destination wedding there a few short weeks after my first visit!
When I first looked into Avia, I thought there would be absolutely no way I could have my wedding there, since I was on a budget. I didn't want to rule it out though, so I pursued it thinking I could only pull it off in my dreams. My Mom and I met with Lisa (Director of Catering and Events). Lisa is absolutely amazing to work with. No matter what I wanted, she made sure to accommodate. Lisa is the reason I feel I was able to actually have my dream wedding in Savannah!! There was nothing I asked that she didn't somehow find a way to pull off for me!
She also was my wedding planner for my entire wedding and reception even though my wedding was at a different venue!(Forsyth Park). It was so wonderful to have a wedding planner because my wedding was a destination wedding. Without her, I never would have been able to do it! She helped me find all of my other vendors and was always available by phone or email for anything I needed!
We had a tasting with Chef Mark @ Avia who is also wonderful to work with. He will create anything you can dream up. The tasting included most ALL of their menu items too on a smaller scale! This was so great, because it gave me a chance to really figure out what I wanted with out having only one or two choices.
The hotel staff is amazing as well and will accommodate you with any requests. The rooms are exquisite, and it's so nice to stay there! My bridal party and I stayed in the Avia Studio Homes. They are connected to the hotel. They were so spacious and the perfect place to spend the weekend! Lisa actually even upgraded us to the penthouse suite!
There are two ballrooms at Avia. The Grand Parlor is the bigger of the two. The brand new Parlor Soleil is where I had my reception and it turned out beautiful. We ended up with Shrimp cocktail, Caesar Salad in a mini cheese basket, Chicken and Biscuits and a Potato Bar! It was FABULOUS!! Avia also provided our wedding cake which was so delicious and turned out perfectly!
We were able to do a bar by consumption which is the best way in my opinion! We were even able to pick which beverages we would like available and I was able to create a signature cocktail with Lisa and the bartender! :)
My wedding went flawlessly thanks to the staff at Avia and Lisa! They directed guests to catch the trolley to the ceremony, to the cocktail hour on the beautiful terrace & back down to the reception! It was so nice that everything was taken care of with out even having to think about it.
Avia Savannah & Lisa made my dream wedding into a reality. I honestly believe without this hotel I never would have gotten everything I had hoped for. They made everything come to life and the sky was the limit! When it comes to Savannah, they're the best! -

Great hotel in downtown Savannah. Excellent service, clean rooms, quiet rooms, and comfortable beds. The breakfast at the hotel is pretty tasty, especially the grits. It's also in such a prime location that you can easily walk to any good restaurant or shop.

This is a review for the cocktail bar only...
Expresso Martini was very good (actually the first was great, the second was fine, usually isn't it the other way around?) The chocolate pot (pot de creme, pardon me) was excellant, a lightly sweetened chocolate mousse with whipped cream and fresh fruit, perfectly made and presented.
Friendly wait staff as well. -

We go to Savannah at least once a month - but the usual Bohemian was booked so Charlie chose Avia. Its a beautiful hotel on the outside - but small on the inside.and definitely could imporove on some areas.
We read the reviews on yelp - but obviously the people that have submitted them dont stay in too nice of hotels bc they were all raving about the Avia.
Yes everyone does greet you when you enter - but more could be done to rectify problems in the room - fire alarm light blinking - and no one on site to fix it at 12:15am.
only the buffet was offered when we went for bfast - we were told bc the rest was very busy from a wedding party from the previous night. So no ala carte - which is all I wanted - needed. I didnt see anything that was on the buffet that caught my attention - for $16
No one greeted us in the restaurant for bfast and it was very chaotic- there was no one in charge.
The pool - is very small and the fire pit was never burning - no one was delivering drinks or even down there on a Sat night at 8pm before we went to dinner.
We usually valet where we stay but someone said the garage is right at the hotel and it is - but we had to go 4 stories below on the saturday bc the garage was packed and then when we left - it took 30 minutes to get out of the garage and it was half empty - we paid the $20 which is the same amount for valet - we should have just stuck to valet.
But anyway - the location is central but service, food, drinks below par!!!! -

In reply to the lady a few reviews down...I usually stay in nothing but the finest hotels and this is my review of the Avia. We came to Savannah for a long weekend from California for my mother's birthday.
The Avia is perfectly located next to the city market and across the way from the river. Everything else is in walking distance or a short cheap cab ride. The breakfast is buffet style and nothing to write home about but the coffee is delicious, especially the mocha. The breakfast staff is really nice and greeted me an my family everyday we were down there. The dinner on the hand, was fantastic! Chicken and waffles were my favorite as well as the lobster Mac and cheese. Also, if you like cheese, definitely get the cheese platter! It comes with honeycomb made locally and the cheeses are so delicious and unique and something I will miss and crave forever. The bartenders are wonderful and make some killer martinis. I went to the bar at least once a night just because of one bartender in particular.
I did come across some front desk staff who were a bit rude but the rest of the staff made up for it. The rooms were nice, beds comfortable, and decent amenities. There is some construction outside but just ask for a room closest to the river an you'll never hear a thing.
Somethings I would complain about:
No room service in the morning because of the buffet and the bar closes at midnight but that's a problem easily fixed by many amazing restaurants and bar witching walking distance.
Will definitely return to the Avia! -

AVIA is indeed, close to everything.
However, this hotel is a lot of fluff with a conveniently placed public parking garage... right next door.
It is pricey but well maintained and very new.
If you like the swanky 'have a cocktail at the hotel bar before dinner' vibe this place is for you.
Very kush.
We didn't spend much time in the room as travelers but the bed was waaaay comfortable.
The place was nice just a little more expensive than we would like to pay for a small sorta cheesey hotel room. -

This was home for a full week, and it was fantastic. I was in Savannah for a convention, and the association was basically pushing everyone to stay at the Westin or Hyatt which are both fine. I wanted to be close enough to the river so that i could jump on the ferry boat to get over to the convention hall easily, but somewhat removed enough from the masses. The location of the Avia was perfect.
Room was very nice, turn down service, big bathroom with a doorless walk in shower (hi!), and a comfy bed.
This place is new, and presumably, not haunted yet - like the rest of Savannah GA :) -

I had the chance to spend 3 days here for a conference.
A terrific part of this place is the way in which I was greeted EVERY TIME I entered the hotel...by warm and friendly smiles of the staff. It felt like I was coming home...excpet to a much cooler and home than my own.
I've never experienced a more comfortable bed and I'm a light sleeper. I almost never sleep on business trips, but this time, I melted each night in to easy sleep.
My favorite part of this hotel is that it's close enough to the water to have the benefit of that part of downtown and yet it's easily walkable to the older parts of town.
Another great point is that this place is perfect for Family, Business or Romance. I think that's a general benefit of Savannah!
Bottom line: stay here! You'll feel the touches of luxury throughout your stay. -

I just came back from Savannah three days ago and I have to say, I STILL miss being at Avia. This place is fantastic with accommodating groups (I traveled with a group of 36), and the little things - incredibly courteous and friendly staff, turn-down service, quality pillows - truly make this place a gem!
Location: It's in the middle of everything! On New Year's Eve, I literally just had to step outside the hotel and I was in the middle of a party. It's within walking distance to pretty much everything in downtown Savannah so it's very convenient. On the flip side, it's loud at night since you're so close to concerts and bars, etc.
Staff: Avia's friendly, great staff won me over from the first second. Staff members smiled and said hello literally anytime they saw me during my stay. I've never been in a friendlier place! Also, with our big group, they were more than accommodating with all of our needs. A huge thank you to the staff for making our company vacation a lot less stressful!
Room: Not too small, and the beds are heavenly! I actually had a difficult time getting up in the morning because....well, I was comfortable.
Food: Breakfast was always delicious and I always had great conversation with the chefs as they made my omelette/grits/crepe! (and anytime I can get smoked salmon at breakfast, I'm satisfied) We also had dinner in one of the banquet rooms, and the food was excellent. The crab cakes are HUGE! Lastly, there's free water bottles and chocolates every night with turn-down service, AND complimentary cookies from 4-7pm everyday...don't miss out! -

02-27-12. Ok....just ok. They were cleaning the rugs when we were there..so kind of a pain. Good location...in historic district..walk to everything...staff was nice. I wasn't overly impressed with anything though. But the room was large ( we had a host room) nicely decorated with plush furniture and cool designer fabrics. Lots of construction going on right next door for next few months...so be aware of that. It did not bother us however...they were not working the day we were there. Try to get a front room or one on other side of hotel from construction.

I had my second stay at the Avia just recently for a wedding. The first time was for Christina G's bachelorette weekend! I am happy to report that I got to sleep in a bed this go around (the floor was my sleeping digs the first time!) and it was like sleeping on a cloud. If only all hotels had beds like that.
The hotel is beautiful with a colorful, lux lobby and a nice bar. The front desk people were very accommodating to my super-early arrival and held my bags until a room was ready. I also forgot my bridesmaid dress in the car when it was on its way to being parked via valet; my embarrassment aside, they were super nice in retrieving said dress. It was all very Mission Impossible with their ear phone/walkie-talkie-like devices.
There is a nice terrace, with a pool, on the second floor (no need to go into details about a certain community manager's past-midnight swim a year ago!). The reception took place in the banquet hall at the hotel. It is just gorgeous with sparkly curtains and shell-like chandeliers. The wedding coordinator was at the top of her game, causing the bride not one bit a stress.
The complimentary (humongous) cookies and chilled water are a lovely touch for guests. They are right by the elevators, so hard to ignore. -

Gilt Groupe Jetsetter......What's up big doog.
We got a great deal for this hotel on Gilt. I always wanted to go to Savannah and see the old city, but didn't know where to stay. Well, I found a place I will continually go back to. It's centrally located and luxurious. The rooms are very trendy and serve all crowds. The pool could be better, as it's small and tucked behind the building. The staff was great and super helpful.
The AVIA is right across the street from Paula Deen's place. This is important because you have to wait in line starting early in the AM to get reservations. That means, staying at AVIA gets you a couple more minutes of sleep before you stroll across the street. It's also right in the heart of the bar scene in Savannah. You can get bombed and just have to avoid falling into the shooting water fountains to make it back to the hotel.
Amazing experience, can't wait to go back. -

Very nice property in a great location within walking distance to just about everything you want to see in Savannah but the thing that stuck out to me was the staff and their willingness to help.
I feel like I got my room relatively inexpensive and usually you do not get the level of service for that price. I was impressed by every staff member I interacted with because they made a point of trying to make the stay enjoyable.
Pool: Is really nice but a little small so if you are planning on taking the kids for a weekend just be aware the pool isn't setup for a family vacation (the park across the street has fountains that shoot out of the ground so you can alternate pool and fountain and keep the kids happy).
Watch out: I think my room had a motion sensor that controlled the AC unit so if nothing is moving in the room the AC unit may have been shutting off. I don't know about you but I don't do jumping jacks when I'm sleeping so I think it was not keeping the AC going during the evenings. At least that is what I suspect. -

I guess I had a really hard time understanding why this place was so great. I don't mind spending the money but what's the big deal? The room I had was small and the drinks were expensive. I love Savannah but the AVIA I will skip. I can do much better.

Definitely a fan of this place. I can tell that they have downsized staff-wise since I stayed here last year, there aren't as many valets or doormen this time around. We stayed in the grand studio hosting suite for 2 nights and the fridge that came with the little kitchen was so convenient. The only slip-up came when the concierge recommended Alligator Soul for dinner, which was terrible, but I can't really fault them for a bad dinner. The location is perfect, right on city market and close to riverstreet, without all of the noise.
hint: ask for the staycation rate if you are a resident of GA, FL, or SC -

An amazing experience at Avia. My fiance booked Avia without knowing anything about the hotel. It was the best part of our trip to Savannah. Its centrally located. Has a wonderful bar with CANDIED BACON during happy hour. CANDIED BACON. What more do you need?
In all seriousness, AVIA is awesome. Upon arrival we were treated like kings. The staff are some of the nicest people around. They treated us so well we didn't want to leave.
The rooms are alittle small, but the comfort in the rooms make up for it. The bed is heaven on earth. Be careful because you may never want to leave the bed.
Overall its a wonderful place to stay. Opt for the valet parking. Its cheaper and easier than trying to do it on your own. -

Situated in prime, downtown Savannah, the AVIA Hotel is stunning and comfortable. From entrance, stay and exit the staff was helpful and courteous giving us directions and dining and sightseeing recommendations. The rooms were fashionable and clean and the common areas were hip, cool and convenient. This is the place to stay when coming to Savannah.

We used the AVIA as home base for our recent visit to Savannah and it's location is perfect. Outside a weird quake-like vibration that traveled through our room due to the parking structure beneath the building... The room etc was great. We have stayed at the Westin, Radisson and Mansion previously. But will definitely be returning to the AVIA next time we visit the Historic district.
The parking (valet only) at the AVIA is an extra $20 a night. There are several lots that are only a few blocks away that are $12. If you are up for a walk you can park on the east side of the historic district for free. -

Well, if it's good enough for Alexis Bledel, I suppose it's good enough for me. =P My first visit to Avia was a year ago for my bachelorette weekend. A group of my besties reserved two rooms, and I remember being in awe of the posh digs -- and of the fact that we shared an elevator ride with a famous person I did not ID (though two of my friends squealed in mirth after she exited on her floor!). If I had the time and resources, I'd redecorate my whole house in the style of their suites. Free chewy cookies and water steeped with fresh fruit was placed out in the afternoons. And the bar even does a little chef tasting in the early evening, though unfortunately I never got to try it. The gym is teeny-tiny, but they have refrigerated towels and apples, which are a nice touch.
My second visit was just two weekends ago. A friend of mine got married on the terrace. And a reception followed in their ballroom. Based on my first visit, I would've given them 5 stars. But this second visit had just a little less luster. When calling to book within the couple's room block, I was denied (true, I was trying to arrange this after the block had expired; but the bride had confirmed with her contact that they could add another room on) and quoted the significantly steeper regular rates. I finally asked the poor bride if she could step in and help (just what every fiancee dreams of doing weeks before her wedding, I'm sure!) -- and she apparently was able to arrange with no problem, so I'm not sure why I ran into so much resistance. But the bride card is a powerful one! ;) We called ahead to make sure they could accommodate an early check-in (at 1) since we were coming in for a same-day wedding at 3. The fellow we spoke to said it would be no problem. But when we arrived, we were told our room was not ready, they could hold our bags until it was available. I almost had a panic attack (we hadn't even showered yet that morning in order to get down to GA in time!), so the front desk phoned housekeeping and found they were able to turn it quickly.
No problems besides those minor nits though. And my god, the beds and sheets are soooo comfy, I could forgive them for much worse! Also an ideal location to DT Savannah -- walk to City Market and lots of cool shops. There's an underground parking deck that costs $8 a day; to use the hotel valet is even more.Listed in: Hotels Across America, Savannah Spots

I make a trip or two to Savannah each year. This year, my journey to the SCAD Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival was planned a little late. So when my usual B&B was booked I looked at AVIA.
The initial contact almost made me have second thoughts. I called to ask about corporate specials. The cheery girl who answered my call advised that some were available but she wasn't familiar with my company. To clarify, she didn't know about a special for my company because she hadn't heard of it; UPS is after all one of those small global conglomerates of over 400,000 employees. She advised she would look into it & call me back in half an hour. Two days later I hadn't heard back. As few options were left I cautiously booked my stay.
I am glad I booked the trip. While the initial contact was less than thrilling, I was greeted by a smiling valet when we pulled up. The lobby is beautiful. The afternoon cookies & tea being served hit the spot while checking in. The front desk was friendly & efficient. The room was crisp, clean & more than pleasing.
The biggest part of this hotel that stood out was the staff. The bartender, the waiters & waitresses, the valets were all super. The real star of the show though was the concierge. She went the extra step to ensure this trip was a special on.
Oh yes, I plan to stay here again. -

Great hotel. Very new, modern, good vibes, really great rooms with awesome furnishings and HUGE modern bathrooms!
A little funky in certain areas. Valet is somewhat confusing, but the staff could not have been ANY nicer from valets, front desk, housekeeping, etc. ALL very clean, ALL with smiles to greet you with.
No room service was a shock, but then you snap out of it and realize "why would they?". So many places within walking distance to eat that they are smart NOT to offer any service.
Ask for Becky the concierge. SHE ROCKS!! Was crazy hot and we wanted our own private car and driver for a tour of the city. She had a "Savannah LIFER" arrive within 30 minutes who was just awesome and we owe it all to her!! SHE IS JUST A WONDERFUL PERSON!!
Avoid Paula Deans establishment. Majorly disappointing.
Stay here if you like new comfy beds, hot furniture, great bathrooms with soaking tubs, and wonderful friendly service. -

I love the Avia! I recently had my wedding reception at the hotel and it was fantastic. The event coordinator Lisa was amazing, and was incredibly helpful throughout the entire wedding process. She was always easy to get ahold of and answered every question that I had. We arrived a few days before the wedding knowing that everything would be in good hands with her in charge. They have a great banquet room that can fit up to 100 people, though we had around 60 and it seemed like a perfect number for the size of the space. They also had the terrace open for us to have our cocktail hour.
The food at the reception was some of the best that I have ever had. The chef there makes amazing crab cakes, as well as some amazing takes on southern food like miniature chicken and biscuits, and mini shrimp and grits. My guests raved about everything.
The decor of the hotel is very swanky and luxe. The rooms are the most amazing hotel rooms I have ever seen. We got the deluxe suite which had a full living room, two TVS, a huge and comfy king bed, and a shower and large claw foot tub.
The hotel staff was incredibly friendly to all of our wedding guests, and were able to provide a block of rooms at a discounted rate. They have a great bar area where you can order drinks and small plates. They also have a $16 buffet breakfast every morning with a deluxe spread of made to order waffles, crepes, and omelets, as well as smoked salmon, eggs, bacon, breads, pastries, yogurt, fruit etc.
The location of the Avia is perfect for exploring downtown Savannah. It is close to some great restaurants, River Street, City Market, art museums and galleries, cafes, shops, and the beautiful squares. With the Avia as your home base you will be able to easily walk anywhere that you would want to go. -

As a former resident of Savannah...my expectations are unreasonably high for hotels since there are so many b&bs and better alternatives. I was blown away by this hotel. The staff, the bar, the decor, the food, the beds - all over the top, which is nearly impossible to pull off these days. I know this city inside and out, and you simply can't beat the ambiance and location...worth every cent.
