Okay, I'm a bit biased b/c Aaron is my trainer and he's done amazing things for me.  I work out regularly but was not seeing as much result in the abs area as I'd expect for someone who works out as much as I do.  Within 2 minutes of meeting me and trying to get an idea of my physical fitness and what I was looking for, Aaron told me straight out that as far as getting a four-pack (I wasn't even asking for a six-pack), it was all about diet and then proceeded to ask me about my diet (keep in mind, no man has ever straight out told me I needed to lose weight like that).  Disclaimer:  I'm a Yelper.  I like to eat.  That's how my Yelping began.  That seems to also have been the reason why I wasn't seeing my abs.  So while I hired Aaron for personal training, he also helped me change the way I eat.

Over the course of the last two months, Aaron has taken me to a completely different level.  I thought my core was weak and it turns out it wasn't.  Instead, I found out that I have almost no upper body strength and so Aaron has been working with me on that, in combination with teaching me how to do things properly (like benching and how to use most of the weight machines).  All in all, I've seen lots of difference in how my body has changed due to Aaron's help.  The gym is a little small but if you train early on weekend mornings, you literally have the gym to yourself.

I've worked with a number of trainers over the years and I've never had one who did such a great job.  Aaron is pretty booked these days but there are many other trainers that work here and it's worth checking out in the hopes you find someone as awesome as Aaron.

I've had a great experience at AVF! I was actually his first customer after they opened so I secretly wanted to be the first to review, but alas I was lazy and someone beat me to it. :P (Also, I noticed that yelp sort has filtered out all the good reviews for some reason and has only left up the bad review. Which--ok, I know yelp doesn't want fake reviewers just promoting businesses, but how do they screen it? bc this girl doesn't have any more friends or reviews than the other ppl that got filtered out. Makes me trust yelp ratings a little less. *gasp*)

I also got the lifebooker deal and I feel so lucky that I got such a great bargain. Alexander is super nice and adorable, and the other trainers I've met have all been very welcoming.

This is a brand new personal training gym. It's small but has the latest equipment, really everything you need and most of the time it's not crowded at all. The rates for personal training and for monthly membership are very reasonable. In comparison, NYSC (where I have a membership and did a few sessions of PT) is a ripoff. (I really appreciate the little things at AVF, like decent toiletries and soft towels! I'm so sick of those scratchy towels at NYSC!)

I also really like the online reservation system and the profiles of the different trainers on the website. Online reservations makes life so much easier!

It is a new business so they're working out the kinks, but Alexander is really open to feedback, and overall I think it's a very enjoyable place to work out. I always look forward to my sessions. :)

Agreed with Heather G. on this one. Waste of time and money.

I had a regular trainer at NYSC and really liked it. But there was a deal through Lifebooker, I thought there can't be any harm trying something a bit different. Figured if it works out well, I'd continue training at this new place instead.

I've tried this gym 3 times and here's how my experience has gone:

1st day: Trainer was conveniently "sick" on a holiday and rescheduled for the following day. Next day gym opened up 15 mins late. So I started my personal training session late. At the end of the session we talked about a regular early morning schedule, which he had "no problems" with.

2nd day: Trainer didn't show up or leave me a message. Didn't even bother to return my messages asking him if we are keeping our regular schedule despite him missing our session.

I later called into the gym to see if they can set me up with a different trainer who can train with me on a regular basis. The owner Alex, only later emails me a few lines saying "No appointment tomorrow". What about all the other days I'd like to train? No answer back from the email, so I called the gym again and another trainer hooked me up with a different guy. I thought I was back on track to train with someone....

3rd day: New trainer didn't show up. Gym wasn't opened, and I ended up waiting an hour and a half outside the gym for the owner, Alex to show up to sort things out. Basically, he lets me in, turns his back to me and goes on playing with his computer. Doesn't really address the situation or talk, unless I tried to talk to him. It's like talking to a socially awkward anti-social guy in high school. Silver lining was that another trainer was there to talk to me and handled the entire thing. He even offered to find me another trainer and schedule out my appointments for me.

Bottom line: Unreliable, take your business elsewhere where you can get results you are looking for. Don't waste your time or money here.

Do not waste your time or money on this place.  The owner is a complete and utter moron with zero interpersonal skills and absolutely no business sense.  I bought 10 sessions through Lifebooker and though the fine print stated you could only do 5 sessions with one trainer then switch, I loved the trainer I was working with so wanted to continue with that trainer then purchase 25 sessions.  The idiot who "owns" the business sat on his ass and did nothing but mess up my bookings.  I always wanted to go M, W, F at 7 am from the first day.  For some reason, he "could not give me a perm booking."  I mean really, someone wants to pay you to work out in your pitifully empty gym and you can't accommodate them.   So, I showed up my second week on time and my trainer was not there since Alexander never booked the session.  What does Alexander do?  Absolutely nothing, he sat there playing on his computer telling me I could do the elliptical if I liked.  Seriously?  You're a master trainer and the moron that messed up my booking and you are going to sit there instead of try to win my business?  Clearly Customer Service and Interpersonal skills are not taught in his country.  As for the gym, it's overcrowded with equipment and though there was never more than a single other trainer in the gym with a clientele we were constantly bumping into each other and getting in the way.  The narrowness of the space does not afford you to even walk and do lunges through the gym.

    Was this review …?

Specialties

AVF GYM satisfies an unmet demand in New York for peak performance fitness training at the crossroads of SoHo with the convenience of real time Internet communication to maximize client results and convenience. The AVF GYM training experience is priced affordably but not targeted to the "mass market" which is already disserved by multi location chains that are organized to maximize revenue by herding the most amount of clients through their minimum standard systems. These fitness "mills" each year produce a built in base of potential clients who have experienced aggravating inconvenience as well as disappointment with their poor results.

History

Established in 2010

AVF GYM brings personal fitness to a new standard with results oriented training for clients looking to achieve their individual peak performance goals

Points of Difference
It should go without saying that the facility and equipment at AVF GYM is first class in every manner. But when a busy executive client is paying membership fees and training expenses, top facilities and equipment are bare minimum standards.
