Tony got my 14yo Craftsman lawnmower up and going again.
Problematic to start and wouldnt stay on if you can even start it.
He cleaned the carb, chaned the oil and air filter also sharpened the blades for only $45 when I brought it to Tony's place.
Great guy all in all!

Spring is almost here and it was time to get my landscaping machines ready. Thanks to Yelp, I was able to find Tony Avery and book his services right away. What I love most about his services is that fact that he's mobile. I didn't have to drive my machines to a lawnmower shop and wait for weeks. (I.e. Orchard Supply and Sears). After Tony completed my tune ups, I was able to test my machines and get my landscape projects underway.
Helpful Hints:
Be sure to give Tony the make and model of your machines. This will help him get the parts ahead of time. Also, book early in the week. This will ensure you get that Saturday morning appointment like I did. Have cash in hand ready. He gives price quotes over the phone. -

I took my Craftsman lawnmower to Tony this morning. It was not starting. Tony replaced the spark plug, Air filter and coil. He cleaned the carburetor and made adjustments to the cables and sharpened the blades. It's working like a new mower now! Entire job parts and labor $60 Great job, while I waited, plus Tony is a very friendly person to boot!

2nd time I've used Avery for help on my lawnmovers in the last 3 years, both experiences were great! He always goes the extra mile and gives advice to help maintain my mover, tried to mow the lawn but the "blub" primer was stuck in, called and he was out the next day with the correct part and I did a tune up as well on my 1.5 yr old Craftsman. He also sharpened my blade as part of his service! great prices and no need to haul mower to a shop! Can't beat that!

Lawnmower Whisperer.
Tony is just as fabulous as the reviews say. Super nice, quick to respond to messages, he is the embodiment of great service. He was willing to look at my mower at 7:30 on a Saturday night, it was fixed in 20 minutes. Taught me how to keep it maintained better than I had been doing. Very reasonable pricing. I can't imagine a better repair experience--I am so glad I did not go off buying the parts I thought I need (which would have been all wrong!).
Yep, just another 5-star rating, completely earned. A real keeper. -

Tony is friendly, professional, and knows his stuff. I called to setup an appointment after reading about him here on Yelp. Just two days later he was at my door, and right on time for our scheduled appointment.
Tony came prepared with what I assume are the normal accouterments of the trade: Operating table, scalpel, stethoscope, and grinder.
After unfolding his portable operating table in my garage and placing my old friend upon it, he began to perform his mower magic right before my eyes. It was a delicate operation; part dance and part surgery involving gasoline, carburetors, pliers, whirligigs and sneedle-hoppers. I was already convinced my Honda and I had cut our last lawn together, but Tony had different plans for the little guy.
Just as I my hopes were fading...
Tony had me pull the starter while he did a Mr. Miyagi maneuver down by the air-intake. Sput.... Sput.. sput put VrOooooOoooOooooom -- The familiar 4.4 Horse Power Purr WAS BACK!!!
I was happy as heck but Tony's service didn't end there. He propped the mower up, grinded and sharpened the blade for me, double checked everything and then drove off into the sunset. Amazing!

He was great! He came out in his little Honda with tools and parts ready to work. He was very nice and willing to teach me how to maintain my mower. He even cleaned up my mower to look good as new!

Tony is the geatest! I called him at 9 am, he called back at 9:45, and was at my house at noon to fix my roto-tiller. It was running good as new by 12:45. Prices were more than fair, and he is going to replace the pull-start cord for me soon since mine is about to break. Wish every repair service was this quick, reliable, and reasonable.

I called Tony Avery and said my lawnmower wouldn't start. He asked me a few questions and made an appointment. True to his word, he only charged me this $65 special repair rate and even promised to return to adjust the carburetor. He left his own vice clamp in place until he could return to make the adjustment. The guy is young, quite the self starter and personable. But while he works, its like watching a surgeon. He clamps, makes adjustments, unclamps and checks his results. He is quite the masterful. Finally, if you are dedicated to your machine (and he says they can last 30 years), pay attention to his work. He told me if I weren't shy, I could make some of these adjustments myself. Its a bit of a class, where he identified the rotting fuel line, took out the carb and cleaned it. If its a small obstruction I maybe able to diagnose it myself.
I wrote that he is located in San Jose but he came all the way to Oakland and did not charge me extra. -

Called Avery early afternoon, We scheduled a time for him to be at my house to firx my lawnmower. He was on time, courteous, knowledgable and extremely competant. My mower actually runs better than when it was new. He cleaned the carb, changed the oil, changed air filter, sharpened the blade and even cleaned the non mechanical parts. I started today planning on spending $400 on a new mower. I now plan on calling Avery as necessary to stretch another 20 years out of my mower. I will use him for all futrue small engine repairs.

Left a message for Tony on a Saturday morning. Got a call back and had him at my place just a little after noon that same day.
Tony was able to diagnose the problem in just a few minutes on my Craftsmen lawnmower and had it up and running like new in about 20 minutes. Also siphoned out my old crappy gas, filled it up with some new gas, sharpened the blade and had it shining before he left.
Overall great service. I will definitely be using Tony's services in the future again. -

There's a reason every single review here gives Tony 5 stars. He came this afternoon to fix my sears lawnmower that had quit running. In 20 minutes Tony had it back up and running with freshly sharpened blades and a new spark plug all included in the price of the service call. Super professional, very polite. Can't recommend him highly enough!

My chipper/shredder lost it's oil drain plug while I was chipping. I didn't realize it and the oil drained out with the engine running and it seized up. Tony had worked on this and other equipment for me previously. I was pleased then, so I called him back. He came on one day's notice. In minutes he had the head and starter off of the engine, lubed everything up, force-cranked the engine to get things loosened up. He checked out a number of things, like the amount of scoring on the cylinder wall. After reassembly, he got the chipper started, cleaned up the piece of equipment, and gave me some operating advice.

If they had 6 stars, I'd give Tony Avery that rating. His service is fantastic. He fixed my rototiller, coming back a second time after the parts I needed came in, with no extra charge. His $65 service charge is quite fair. He wouldn't even take a tip, which I think he deserved for extra service. A really nice guy who knows his stuff. He even helped me fix my "weedeater" even though he doesn't usually work on them. He showed me how to fix the broken starter rope, and when he came back the second time, helped me put it back together when I had hit a snag. He also gave me tips on how to maintain the tiller. It now runs like new and I was able to get my garden patch ready for this year's veggies. A rare breed, the last of the honest repairmen, and he makes housecalls! Three cheers for "Dr." Avery!

this guys tony is awesome!!!!!!!!!!! i called him on a Sunday, he returned my call the very next morning and was out to my house by 11:00am. by 12:00 my lawn mower was fixed and my lawn looks great! he has all his tools and parts and gets the job done! plus he is just a really nice guy!
its hard to find a lawn mower service let alone one who is mobile. his prices are great! and he is so knowledgeable about mowers. if you need someone trust worthy and great priced he is your man! i wont use anyone else! -

Lawnmower went down, looked online, found some good reviews and gave tony a call. 2 days later he's there, and mower is running and looking like new. i was very happy with the results. good work and good advice. defintely recommend him for anyone with a mower in need of repair.

Called Tony after finding him on Craigslist Bay Area and had ALL my power equipment serviced a day later. Tony came to my location, on time, and serviced a Groundhog T-4 trencher, a Honda tiller, a Manco go kart, a Toro mower and a CK Diamond walk-behind concrete saw...all in under two hours. Fast, efficient, and friendly...a superb VALUE and BARGAIN. I had another small engine-repair company quote me $220 just to fix the Toro mower. Tony fixed that one (and sharpened the blade) and the concrete saw, serviced the trencher and tiller, and got my son's Go kart up and running for the first time in a LONG time. He and I will be seeing A LOT more of each other. I've told my friends and relatives about him already. Money AND time saver...my total was only $150.

I just had my mower worked on by Tony....I'm using his first name because this guy is so nice, professional, and genuine. Our appointment was for 11:30 ish and he arrives at 11:20 ready to work. He cleans out the mower, filter, carb, adds oil, fuel, and sharpen the blades. Now I have some work to do on the "Honey Do List" and Tony is the guy I have to thank!

Took an old lawn mower which wasn't starting over to his place in San Jose. He cleaned the carburetor, fuel line etc and got it working in half an hour while I watched and waited. Definitely knows his stuff... plus he is super friendly and nice.

Called Tony on a Saturday at about 1PM. He came over at 4:30PM same day!!!! Tony fixed a very poorly maintained lawn mower and explained what he was seeing and doing as he was repairing it. Loose engine bolts, new plug, new filter, removed old oil, removed oily gas (!!!), added oil, added gas, sharpened blades, shined it up. Could not believe that it started on the first pull after working on it!! Was back in mowing business in less than an hour. Saved us from having to buy a new mower. Very personable likable guy and someone you feel has good integrity. Great service and economical as well as at your house too. I would definitely recommend Tony.

I had 2 mowers that would not start and a power washer that others told me the engine needed to be replaced. Mr Avery fixed them all. He did not have to replace the engine on the power washer at all. He showed me what was wrong with each item and how to avoid problems in the future. I can't even begin to thank Mr Avery for his Professional Expertise. He knows what he is doing. He responded quickly to my call , was on time and repaired the mowers and power Washer quickly and efficiently.

Tony is a very helpful guy who genuinely wants to help you out; i went to his place which got me a $15 discount on his normal rate (he works out of his home garage) and he quickly got my 10-year old lawn mower working efficiently. I have been to a few other places and Tony is certainly cut out of a different cloth. I would absolutely recommend his services to other folks.

Great service. I had a sod cutter w/a small honda engine that had been sitting in a garage for awhile. Wouldn't start. Prompt response to initial phone call and was able to have him come over in a few days time. Very professional and knew exactly what to do. Very quickly got everything working. Offered great advice on how to avoid the problem in the future. Great deal and service! Will definitely use again.

When Tony arrives in his little Honda Accord you start to wonder. WTF. The minute he starts to work you go WTF. This guy is a gentleman, a professional and a very experienced smart dude. His sh*t is wired. I was so impressed I was bringing old stuff that hadn't run for years out of my back yard. Like a mad scientist he had that sh*t working. I had him fix a chain saw, a rolling weed whacker 5hp. a 10 hp. generator. All said and done he charged me 75.00. I had to give him a good tip. Folks this guy really does deserve your work. Hey Tony thanks! I told you I would post for you.

It was Sunday night at 5:30pm when I left a voicemail message for Tony, asking if he could come out during the upcoming week. He called back 10 minutes later, and came to my house 30 minutes later. He fixed my lawnmower while I watched, tought me how to do it next time, and even shined up the mower when he was done. It was under an hour from my call when it was all done! He charged me cost for the replacement part, plus a minimum service call. I tried to give him a tip, but he wouldn't accept it. I've never written a Yelp review, but after this, I just had to. This is by far the best service I have ever received.
