History: I been going to this place for as long as I can remember. My parents used to take me here when I was a kid, and I take my wife here as a husband. Ownership has changed over the years, menus revamped and edited per the times, staff come and gone, but something keeps me returning here. Maybe the memories of the mayo based pesto pasta salad with tomatoes which has changed pasta shape over the years, but not taste, to the creamy pastas that my gut loves and my belt hates. This is no Olive Garden, more like a mix of Irish Pub and Italian Bistro merged into one. Love the decor with a lot of antique things. Old phone booths etc. Pictures of 1800 people looking all grumpy, tablecloths with advertisements for stuff like beans for 5 cents and horse wagons for 52 bucks. Lighting is a tad dark, but adds to the salon feel of the place. Smoking has been banned like all places now, and they added a "party room" in the rear of the place now for large groups.

Food: Is not healthy fare per se, but is very rich and tasty. They keep rotating my pesto off and on, but usually, I been able to get some sort of pasta and pesto as I love their cream based pesto sauce. They used to have it over tortellini, but now it comes over long pasta, which works I guess. The Alfredo has changed a little over the years, not sure where it stands now. The red sauces are still wonderful, as with the seafood and clam sauces. I like the tube stuffed pasta and stuffed pasta like ravioli etc. Garlic bread is ok. The salad bar is memorable. Mostly pasta salad fare, but recently more salad fixings, so no issue there. Also, their pizzas are pretty good. Nice mix of crusty and gooey on the inside.

Service: Has always been on the good side minus a few "bad" times. Most of the staff I have known for a long time, and gotten a good rapport. Some of the newer staff tend to be less friendly and more work focused, which is okay, but I do miss the old country feel in which people knew you by name etc. I do recall recently after ordering something that the waitress was kind enough to give us a discount on the food due to the dish not being well received. (note to ownership, the jambalaya needs tweaking) :) But, at least, we were treated with respect and no hard feelings. Again, some of the younger staff tend to overlook customers, so some room for improvement there could be helped.

Location: In a corner spot near the old QFC in Sumner. Next to a Pet Store and some Tool Company. Parking is ample and there even have a spot for take out pick up orders near the front. Interior is roomy and ADA friendly. Some of the booths might be a tad tight for plus sized people, but I can still fit...kind of.

Overall a good place to get your grub in when you are hungry. Good service most of the time and an overall good time when the stars are aligned right.

I completely agree with Kristin C.'s review.  I ordered the fettuccine with shrimp and sauteed mushrooms.  The pasta itself was okay... nothing spectacular.  The sauce was jarred at best.  The shrimp and mushrooms were borderline disgusting... iodine and ammonia smelling... totally not fresh at all.  I barely ate half, so I ordered dessert to take home.  Got the chocolate volcano cake.  I make a chocolate lava cake that would blow theirs out of the water.  The recipe for mine is posted on my blog... maybe they should check it out and try making something fresh for their customers.  I suggest skipping this place and going to Farrelli's or Mama Stortini's.  Either place is significantly better.  The ONLY redeeming thing about this restaurant is their waitstaff is attentive and pleasant and they serve Manny's beer.

We went on the evening of 8/24/11 Not as good as I had hoped.

Cute atmosphere, italian style brick, quirky antiques and trolly cars as booths. Real Roomy, seems as though it can handle a good size crowd. however it wasnt that busy. Maybe it was because it was a Wednesday Night?

Salad bar was pretty good, but who doesnt like a good salad bar?

For meal; I Had chicken fettucine Alfredo with breaded chicken .
My noodles and sauce didnt seem as fresh as I would have liked or expected $14.95 half order $8.95. I wouldnt complain but it seems pretty spendy for "meh. I've experienced better".
my chicken wasn't crunchy, it seemed like they rolled the chicken in bread crumbs and pan fried it and i was expecting pre-breaded chicken that was baked... since it was pan fried it seemed a bit heavy or greasy. and i was hoping for "light and crunchy" chicken pieces inside my noodles.

My daugher had the seafood combo fettucine $15.95
it was huge and smelt super fishy! she was excited looking at it until she took her first few bites. then it was a let down to her.

I mean I couldnt finish my half order and she didnt put even a dent in her order; huge served portions. Which would be great if you thought it was amazing!
Unfortunately neither of us felt it was amazing. it was Ok, just Ok.

I mean we had tons left on our plates and opted outta of take home as neither of were impressed with our meals.

Aversano's was a terrible disappointment and the fact that it has such high reviews on Yelp is misleading. The salad bar has very few actual vegetables (all things like olives and canned artichokes - why even bother?), the food is greasy and over garlicked (to hide subpar ingredients) and nothing on the menu remotely resembles Italian food. The place smells funny, the furnishings are old and the service is only mediocre. Head to Stortini's instead. You'll be glad you did.

Update.... it turns  out that there were exceptional mitigating circumstances for our first review of Aversano's.  The owner has contacted us (AMAZING that he did that!)....  his explanation of what happened was very heartfelt and honest.

We're going to have dinner here again very soon and will post a new review after we've done that.

So in the meantime, we'll just park the stars at 5.... after we have another dinner there soon, we'll insert a new review.

But I gotta say that owner Steve is a "step up kind of guy.  We've never had an owner contact us after a review before, and I gotta say we're VERY impressed....

    More soon....

Let's just say that Aversano's may be turning over a new leaf.  The owner of this restaurant took the time to read the reviews and actually make changes based on user feedback.  That's incredible!  Great job guys.  The owner even offered up a gift certificate to come back and apologized for the bad experience.  Well done.

One of my biggest concerns initially was that there wasn't a healthy option on the menu and they now offer three low calorie options.  Fantastic.

Management not only followed up with my salad bar issues by email, but really seemed to follow through with the staff!!

The pasta salads were still rocking the bar, but the lettuce & fixin's were MUCH improved!

Hubby had spaghetti with an awesome meatball.  Well seasoned and... well... fluffy... no breadcrumb action inside that we could tell... just awesome hand rolled meat and herb goodness!

I had the BBQ rib special.  The ribs were so meaty I only finished 2 of the 4.  It was strange to have a side of spaghetti, but it ended up in the go home box with hubby's left overs.  The sauce was smokey and REALLY sweet... so if you are looking for spicy / vinegar based ribs... these are not those!

We never were given the chance to debate dessert... which was just as well.

With our Restaurant dot com coupon cost we spent $14 on a meal that would have cost $36.

A nice family-style Italian place just outside of downtown Sumner.  Who'd have thought?  A large dining room with lots booths.  A small bar but a large selection of beer and an adequate (for the type of place) and inexpensive selection of wines. Didn't notice if they have liquor.

I had veal parmigiana ($16.95), at the recommendation of our waitress, Sheree.  While the veal was a little tough, it was good, well-cooked and covered with a very tasty tomato sauce. It comes with spaghetti and a meat sauce and the salad bar.  It's a small salad bar ($5.95 to add) but has a good selection of veggies, pasta and potato salads, and dressings.  My wife had a small pizza ($9.95) that she enjoyed and that smelled good coming home in the car.  We had no room for dessert, but they had some very tasty-looking selections.

While I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, it's not far from home, so I'll be back. If you happen to be in Sumner (which is a nice town), it's worth the stop.

I went here for New Years Eve dinner. The place was slammed (oh, but its New Years Eve, who wants to COOK??) and the orders were messed up due to a computer problem.

Instead of 2 pizzas, we got 5, due to the mess up. 5 for the price of 2.

Oh Aversano's, how I've missed you.

I've been going here since I was at least 8 so we're talking fifteen years and it has ALWAYS been great Italian food. I love the look, I love the feel, I love the food, I love everything about this place.

Cheese Manicotti- Yum. Cheesy, melty, saucy. HOT! Perfect.
Salad bar- Yum... but kinda in the way that it's the same salad bar I've had since I was 8... if that makes any sense. It's not the best salad bar I've ever seen but I still love it because it's Aversanos and I've been coming here since I was 8. Haha.

Service is good too. I really can't wait to go back now that I've written this.

*** NUMBER 200 !!!  ****  Had to try somewhere new for the big 200.  Had a $25 certificate from http://restaurants.com and decided tonight was the night after Middle School Back to School Nigh.  This is my 15 year old nieces favorite restaurant.  Salad bar was good (heavy on the mayonaise pasta salad s but the croutons were probably the best I've ever had!)  I had the crab raviolli (good), other half had seafood fettucini (tons of seafood, excellent), sissy had stuffed chicken breast with fettucini (she loved it) and little one had grilled cheese.  To drink they had lemonad (ok) and Shirley Temples (excellent with extra cherries).  Total with tax and tip was $50.  Would definitely go back!

The food is great but the service is unreliable and often very slow.  Do I have to wait 10 minutes to put in my drink order, really? Do I really have to track down my server to get a refill? Must I wait 20 minutes to put in my food order?bid the food wasn't so good I swear I would never come back.

We get pizza to go from Aversano's all the  time. Easily beats the chains. The restaurant itself isn't fancy, but is reliably good. Can be a bit slow, however, so not the best choice when you are in a hurry.

We go there for lunch on a regular basis.  I think the food is great.  We often bring customers, and they indicate the food is great.  Our servers are ussually great and have our drinks constantly coming.  If you had a bad experience, that is not the norm.  I would recommend you give it another chance, at least for lunch as I rarely go there for dinner.

Service is good and friendly.  We ordered a large pizza with a medium crust.  Got a large pizza with a thin crust, which the wife doesn't care for.  I on the other hand love thin crust pizza's and this was one of the best I've had.  It actually rates up there with pizza I've had in Naples Italy, which is some of the best in the world.  I don't thing you can go wrong giving this place a try.  Even my wife thought it was pretty good and wants us to go back again.  We'll give the pasta a try this next time.  I took away one star because they didn't get the order right.

Yummy!!! Best pizza I've had since I moved to Washington.  Much better than trackside and worlds better than the over rated rock.  Service was good....not great as our waitress seemed to have disappeared for a bit but good. Hard to find as the sign in front is illegible, but when you do its worth it thats for sure.

I'm always looking for some good Italian food so my husband and I went here for lunch. We both ordered their chicken calzone and I couldn't believe how big it was! We could have shared one! It came with a trip to the salad bar which is small but I liked that they had different kinds of salads (pea salad, pasta salad) along with the greens to make your own and it was very fresh! I can't wait to go back and try their pizza!
