Review from Athena C.
Pro: Venue is sexy, exclusive and spacious.
Con: drinks are expensive, and the door is hard to get through.
Nonetheless, I was here for a private party and we had a great time. I didn't have to pay for drinks because we got bottle service but I heard the drinks at the bar are out of this world. Music was awesome but then again, we hired the DJ. So overall, I cannot tell you how this place is without the bottle and our DJ. The venue definitely is a great looking place.Listed in: Sexy Bar/Lounges in Manhattan

Get to the Chase:
Pros:
1) Posh and classy
2) Good crowd control, still packed but not to the point where it's unbearable
3) Decent music, but not A-list DJ's. Great place to drink, talk, flirt, and be in pleasant company with some good looking people
Overall a good time, feel like it's a Vampire Ball masquerade haha
Cons:
1) Pricey as per usual for any NYC club
2) Need to know an IN...either be on guestlist or buy a table, or have 10 or 12 drop dead gorgeous girls with you -

There's no cover, that's pretty much the only good thing about this place. The drinks are expensive even for meatpacking at $20 for a vodka redbull. Really crowded inside and can't really breathe. They make it seem exclusive by having people wait in line, but if you are a girl, you get in relatively easily. But once inside, you wonder about why it's exclusive in the first place as there is nothing impressive inside.

Easy breezy to get past the door with a promoter. Good luck otherwise. Once you're in, it's definitely worth whatever hassle you faced walking the cobblestone streets in high heels, ladies. The guys are hot, the music is great.

Manhattan, NY
I've gone here twice in the past week and I'm truly hooked. This bar is becoming one of my favorites, if not my most favorite in Manhattan. I have a promotor I discovered Avenue through, and both nights I have been have been wild.
It's hard to really love a place if you've only spent a grand total of 6 intoxicated hours in it. But the entire vibe of this place feels like a mix of 90s club kids and modern NYC nightlife, and has a perfect balance of obscure and mainstream.
Drinks are great, but normally I'm at a table with a promotor, who mixes his own. Music is amazing, ranging from top 40, hip-hop/rap, dubstep (heavy heavy stuff), electro, and house. Sometimes it's a little absurd when a 50-Cent-hits-marathon comes on, but it pleases the ladies.
Here are a few tips if you're trying to get in:
Dress well (duh)
Keep a ratio of 2:1 AT LEAST (girls:guys)
Don't act like a jackass.
Best behavior babies! Enjoy -

Had the best night I have ever had in NYC here last night. Intimate nightclub in Chelsea playing good beats. The interior is beautifully decorated with bulbous shaped lanterns. Servers bring out drinks to the table using sparklers like any nightclub where-ever you want in the world.
If you don't have no table it is a bit hard to find a place to dance downstairs because the tables are small and tightly packed together spilling onto the narrow carpet.
There is an upstairs area as well and a room for private parties. The upstairs plays different music (and from what I have heard since I did not wander up there) the downstairs is where its at.
Can't wait to come back here! -

Oh Avenue! I would definitely go back.... I would just pre-game more before I go!
So let's get the bad out of the way first. DRINKS. Let's be honest, no one comes here for the beverages. They are ridiculously overpriced (close to $30 bucks for a rum and coke - tips included for you), barely drinkable (WAY too strong to the point of just nasty) and mixed by someone beautiful but wildly untrained.
The good: Where do i start. Music was AWESOME all night long. Great mix of house, top 40 and new stuff. About the nicest doormen you could ask for given the exclusivity of the club. Great location and beautiful decor. Beautiful crowd all around; a little older than the Griffin/Bunker scene but lots of good looking girls and finance-looking guys. Responsible coat check (always a plus in my book).
Know before you go:
-Dress up and make sure you have some girls in your group (standard club etiquette I suppose)
-Go early if you can (truth for all MPD clubs)
-If you get rejected, head over to Park for a sure-thing entrance to their bar and dance floor. If it's late at night you can also just admit defeat and hit up Artichoke Basil's next door for some delish pizza. -

I always wanted to check this place out, so got a chance last Thursday for a HH event. At first glance I feel in love. The music was great and the lights were a plus. Then, I went upstairs and everyone was sitting, kinda lame. The next step was to grab a drink, I ordered a Coors Light and it cost me $11!!!!!!!! I was so turned off that it killed my buzz. I wanted to host my birthday party here and I had second thoughts. Doesn't look like I'll be back anytime soon.

Doormen are actually very sweet and friendly, which NEVER happens in NYC. Never had a problem getting in, with a promoter or not. Once inside, the crowd is consistently great-looking on any given night. Downstairs gets really packed as the club is very narrow, which can be kind of awkward when you're dancing and accidentally shaking your ass right into people who are walking past. Tables are the way to go if you have a large group. Cocktails at the bar are strong but run from about $15-$22 -- standard exorbitant Meatpacking prices. Table service is attentive; bartenders are quick. The pizza brought over from Artichoke next door is also a plus. Once again, Avenue has the best doormen in NYC, and they won't judge you for going back an embarrassing number of times each week...

I like it here.
I always flit between Avenue and Park, which is right next door, and always manage to have an awesome time.
Good place to check out, although it is a bit small. -
Review from Andrew S.
Good but a bit disappointing. I've been to all the major clubs and lounges, and find Avenue the most poorly matched in terms of Hype and Reality. I'll give my pros and cons.
Pluses:
1) Table service is great, very attentive staff and treats you like a VIP for sure (they should). Really good looking service staff.
2) The promoters and doormen are all great, so no big problem with them.
3) Bartenders are really nice on nights when you dont want a table but do want to go. The bar minimums are reasonable as well, so long as you bring ladies.
Biggest problems:
1) The layout is pretty terrible, too narrow for dancing, and I feel they admit too many people. No real dance floor.
2) Coat check is really bad. The line can snake down into the club itself, which is unacceptable.
3) Tables just don't provide enough space also, the club gets too narrow, to packed. So its more difficult than other places (like Lavo) to enjoy your table.
Ultimately, its A-OK (as my review indicates) but really expected more from a place I heard so much about. -

came here with a friend and a promoter we had met that night. there was a short line because it was almost 3 i think, but we walked straight in.
but not before the owner (or so i was told) gave us elevator eyes to make sure we were up to par. surprised that i had made it in, but i think he didn't really care as much because it was nearing the end of the night.
crowd was older than i had expected. or everyone looked older because they were dressed up. i was definitely the shortest girl there at 5' 7". the tallest person in there was definitely a woman, as well. i thought she was standing on a chair!!
i don't like how the place is set up so narrowly. the place wasn't even that crowded by the time we got there, but it was annoying having to squeeze through peeps to get to the bar.
we were offered a table here the next night, but didn't take it. i don't know what there is to say about this place except that it's nice. nothing mind-blowing, but i would definitely opt to come here over other places -
Review from Rich P.
The VIP treatment here is excellent. They really get it right, and make sure there's plenty of staff attending to their most important guests.
Girls walking around and dancing on stilts. Runway models deliver your bottle service with fireworks flaming from the bottles. Our table had a dedicated ambassador, security, and bartenders. I don't know who you have to know to make this happen, but when it does... -

Anything close to Chelsea/Meatpacking isn't my scene at all. The whole exclusive-club-bottle-service-douchey-doorman thing is played out and I'm not quite sure why anyone would want to subject themselves to it.
That being said, I was out on a birthday night that snaked through many bars, and this was our final destination. There was a clusterfuck of people around the velvet rope, and I was pleasantly surprised at how calmly and gracefully the doormen were handling everything--to our left and right there were girls shouting to be let in. We waited patiently a couple of minutes before someone in our party said, "We have two boys and two girls," and they let us right in without hassle.
We were there to dance, so it was a little disappointing that--despite the interior being nicely designed--it's too narrow and there's no real dance floor. People were breaking it down where they could, on tables and random fixtures--but it was kind of awkward. The music was fun, standard Top 40 fair, and we danced for a bit with some staff doing some sort of "Hey, you're a fire hazard!" sign language towards us now and then, but it was just way too crowded to stay in the long run.
I mean, if you're going to some place like here, you know what to expect already. Would I go back? Nah. But did the crowd, doormen, and venue exceed my expectations? Certainly. So congrats on being the most classy sleazy joint in the area! -
Review from Dan C.
At first I thought: oh boy, here we go... another high-end place that is going hassle me at the door even though I am on a guest list, and try to bully me into getting a table, etc.
But no, the staff here from the door people, to the hosts, to the bartenders were nice enough IMO, perhaps because I was there for a private event. The space is sort of typical high-end lounge, shaped like a shoe box and has a main aisle lined with VIP tables with a small bar at the back. There is also a smaller upstairs that looks over the main floor area.
The décor was kind of clubby, with dark wood and dim lighting. Each floor had a DJ spinning different music. I was upstairs where it was packed, much more of a party up there. The DJ was spinning house music and the sound system was excellent - well balanced and loud, but not ear-splittingly so, making conversation still possible.
I hear a lot of hype about Avenue. I don't see what the big deal is about why it is so "hot", maybe it is on certain nights. That said, I liked the space, I was treated like a customer should, and the music was great. What more do you need? -

This place is ridiculous.
I've gone to an assortment of bars / clubs and "host parties" in New York City. Some friends of mine were throwing a party here one Thursday and I made sure to tell them- I was by no means dressed to go out. I was in all black however, just not wearing heels. The door people completely ignored me when I walked up, I told them my friends name and was basically told they weren't there and I needed my own name on their list. This was banana's to me, since I was told it wasn't a ridiculous scene and it was everyone hanging out drinking and eating dinner upstairs. After a few texts, said friend came out and basically asked what the door guys issue was with me and he just looked at me, asked for my ID and let me in. Like I said, I COMPLETELY understand dresscodes for club and knew I wasn't dressed "above and beyond" but I wasn't wearing jeans/pajamas/a mumu.
After getting in, the bottom floor was a raging sausage fest of douche bags. They were like hungry children anytime a girl walked by wearing anything remotely scandelous and compared to themselves, that meant tighter pants and a tank top.
I was seated upstairs at the table, the only good thing about this place was the continuous champagne and vodka that was sent to the table and the people surrounding me. I didn't understand the hype of this place at all, it never seemed so packed you couldn't move like other reviews and the music was probably from the same playlist every other macbook dj uses.
All in all, I went and saw what the hype was but I will never be back. -

I was invited to Avenue for a shoe release party so this review isn't for a regular night of clubbing.
The space is very narrow, so I'm not sure that people really go here to dance. This party was packed and it was a select crowd so on a regular night I figure it gets very crowded, although there are plenty of seats. I did notice that they had another floor but I didn't have a chance to go explore. The decor is very nice. High ceilings and what I want to decribe as a renaissance theme. Although that theme can only be seen towards the ceiling since the tables and seats are very modern - leather.
The bathrooms are unisex, but they are private bathrooms and I believe there were 4 of them. There's also a nice selection in the area of colognes, perfumes and hair spray. -
Review from Ann V.
I remember the music being really good, but i don't remember dancing much or really talking to very many ppl. What was I doing then for that many hours at Avenue? I only remember a few things like drinks, smelly bathroom, and margarita pizza. That's just about it. A minor case of amnesia or what?!

I was here for New Year's Eve and had a great time but I lost my cell phone at some point and with it being so crowded there was no way to find it that night. This review is more about their customer service on this matter.
I kept calling my phone to no avail as it was off or dead and Avenue was closed till Monday.
Unfortunately, my phone had been stolen at another club and the employees at that club were extremely unhelpful so I wasn't expecting much.
Monday morning I called my phone and one of the managers answered. They said they had the phone and there would be someone at the club all day so I could come and pick it up at anytime. I got my phone back and heard from someone else they have a strict policy on making sure any items that are lost by customers of the venue are always returned promptly and pride themselves on this aspect of customer service.
I was really impressed by the service and happy to get my phone back. -

These guys need many lessons in guest service. I get the NY attitude thing being a resident all my life but these guys embarrass people that they have no idea about or care to know about regardless of whether you have a reservation or not. Too many other great places to go in NYC than waste time with these guys.

Review from David W.
So maybe the first question that I need to ask is, how in the world did me and my other male friend get in here? Well, somehow we did without much hassle, so that's instantly a plus.
Upon walking in, the space is what exactly you would imagine stereotypical high end NY club to look like so it didn't disappoint. The crowd was great, maybe even more girls than guys? Drinks are on the expensive side, but would you expect otherwise?
There are two different dance floors with different DJs, both downstairs and upstairs were spinning some great music. I could just sit here for hours listening to either one perform.
So overall if you want a fun night out at a club, Avenue should definitely be considered. The doormen were also really nice and patient, displayed by my friend being a drunk idiot and insisting on stepping over the velvet rope instead of around, and not getting punched by one of them. The only minus is the bathroom situation, just not a fan of unisex bathrooms with these two separate lines...just too much going on. -

3.5 / 5 stars
GOOD music, FLOWING liquor, ATTENTIVE service.
I came here on a Friday night, with a group of 7. We didn't have much trouble getting in, but we also arrived before it got hot, which is according to people around 1am. We had a table, and the liquor was freely flowing and the wait staff was incredibly attentive.
The music at first wasn't that great, but it definitely got better as soon as more people came in. Music would range from current hits (TGIF - Katy Perry) to even great throw backs (Soulja Boy Tell 'Em).
There are 3 things about Avenue that I would say brought the rating down to 3.5. 1. It definitely is very wall street type, and very caucasian. (So you're definitely getting alot of caucasian dancing styles hahaha). 2. the bill is RIDICULOUS. make sure you bring MAD CASH MONEY to pay for your shit or bring a suga daddy. 3. they dont have food. not even like complimentary nachos or chips or some shit. You're paying so much for booze, where is the drunk munchies??? -
Review from Britton B.
New York, NY
"Stand And Pose, Dancing Is For Free Spirits and Democrats"
Avenue. It is a mixed bag of goodies and rotten apples. Like Broadway, the longest street in the City, both the good and the bad can be found lurking around it's edges.
The crowd is admittedly socialite and unabashedly fashionable. Well to do, self-proclaimed alpha males of the commodity futures and stock exchange castes lure tall, skinny women who wear heels for a living to this den of pleasure with promises of bottle service, cocaine, and perhaps a slice of nearby Artichoke pizza. Don't worry, my dears, the bathrooms on both levels won't tell anyone of your nefarious habits. The sound of puke hitting the toilet bowl won't escape the private stalls.
The DJ, like the club itself, is a mixture of elitism and poor taste. No one dances to Bobby Hendricks anymore. He should stick to playing music by black artists that people actually listen to. The room cries with delight as Notorious B.I.G. is followed by "Still D.R.E." If he weren't placed upon a pedestal high above the dance floor, cordoned off by glass walls and bombastic speakers, he would be peppered with questions. "Why are you playing the Rolling Stones?"
The drinks are strong. They will get you drunk. But be expected to drop at least a barrel or two of crude at 2008 prices. ($94.00+). At $15 for a vodka tonic, they can really add up. But don't let anyone see you pull out your plastic unless it's American Express Black. Money talks, bullshit walks.
Men will hand you their business card. Everyone in the crowd is either a CEO, a model, or a fashion designer. Women will act uninterested. Buy them a drink. Offer them a ride on the white pony. Play fast and loose with your friends at Avenue; the night will eventually end, and when it does, you will stumble out alone and haggard. Your tie will be crooked, your button up stained with the glitter from countless faces where drunken hugs and kisses where exchanged.
You'll smell like a mixture of gin, perfume, and stale sweat. Your mouth will be so dry that your tongue will feel like a brick, and your eyes will burn in a way that no amount of blinking will lessen.
A line stretches down the block, and a miniature celebrity stands at the door, eyeing those eager faces with a stoicism Seneca would envy. Too late. Far too late. Must go home. The cesspool of excess has engulfed you and spat you out. Sleep awaits, and oh, what a sweet sleep it will be.Listed in: The Funny Papers, Gold Stars, Cool Cats

Brookline, MA
I came here a few months ago, and didnt' totally hate it. I was with some friends and we got a table so the line was no issue, which was great because it seemed to go on forever. Once inside, I understood why. They were already at pretty much max capacity it seemed.
The place was decorated nice enough, but it was so small compared to other clubs. I can hardly say this should be classified as a dance club since everyone around me, (myself included,) spent more time having our picture taken as wannabe-B-lister's than dancing. I have no aspiration to be famous, or to be a model, (I eat too much,) so having my picture taken once or twice is nice but more than that is just excessive.
The drinks were super duper expensive. SUPER DUPER Expensive. BUT they were strong so I have no real gripes. The only reason I'm giving it four stars is because people watching was almost as fun as dancing.
The clientele were classy, but I was constantly worried that I was going to injure someone seeing as everyone looked to be about 90 lbs.
Music was good, I love my dance-y club music, so yeah. I guess this place isn't stellar but isn't a bad time either with the right people.Listed in: Rage Spots

This place has seen better times. I guess that's what happens to every night club after it has been around for a while.
I might be a bit picky when it comes to clubbing, but Avenue has one huge fault: it is narrow and long, with lots of traffic from people traveling back and forth between the bar area and their tables. Constant pushing and pulling as well as spilled drinks are a norm at Avenue, which is completely not okay with me.
Also, hold on to your stuff if you decide to venture here: the crowd is strange and personal possessions mysteriously disappear.
Sigh, the place used to be really good back in the day. -

Ohhh Avenue. Remember when this place was the "it" spot? I still love it, and I don't care what anyone says. I love the decor, I love the vibe, I love that it's always people from LA who go here. Love it Love it. It's more intimate feeling than other clubs, and the music has always been a hit in my book.

One of the better clubs in New York. Avenue's crowd is always fun and the music is great.
Make sure to have a table or know someone (of significance) there or you have a fat chance of getting in.
Great crowd and fun place if you want to drop some serious coin. -

New York, NY
This place is good during the *Weekday* (like MOST Manhattan hotspots). If you come during the weekends it makes no sense expect to enjoy. I find that weekends in the city is hectic even when going to the gym, getting a haircut or going to your favorite brunch spot.
During the week, my friends and I come here to escape the vapors of ennui that plague us. Once inside we always have a good time. The drinks are pricey but for me it is worth it because they are well made and there is no cover charge. The crowd is vibrant and eclectic. Preppy Ivy Leaguer, hip hop star, rocker, model, school teacher, dancer, banker, lawyer, artist, trust fund kid, non-profit types all mixed together just to have fun. The music is great. This is a good diversion during the week. It serves its purpose. It is sexy.
The Doorman is great. Wass Streven is a pro. He is a staple in the NYC nightlife. From Pangaea, Veruka, Marquee and now Avenue). If you do not get in the first time, he is not being a dick for an ego trip. He is employed to keep certain minimum standards set by the owner of the night spot. He has to make a good party out of what he sees that night. If you do not get in, big deal. If it is that important to you to experience that place then go back. Wass will let you in--eventually. -

Visited two weeks ago on a Saturday. Walked right in, didn't have to wait on line. From my understanding the door is strict. I usually don't have a problem getting into these "velvet" rope type places. I was told by a promoter friend it is because I'm tall and that is what's "in" style with these places
Honestly, how pathetic.
Once inside, I did notice the majority of the gals were either pseudo faux model types or an average gal like me who happens to be tall. There was also the greasy middle aged men with a sprinkle of uptown meet downtown hipster types. Not completely hipster, but not totally uptown.
The music was pretty darn good, but overall wasn't impressed by the crowd. Didn't seem like a place to come to for a few drinks and dance as everyone was paired off at a table with bottle service. Almost felt like we invaded someone's house party.
I would try this place again, but surely it won't be on a Saturday night. Didn't like the vibe nor the Saturday night crowd. -

the first time i came here they made me and my group wait on line for a bit before letting us in only to find the place empty. i freaking hate nonsense like that, so they lose major points for that.
the second time i attempted to come here, in order to gain entrance they wanted each of us to pay a $200 "standing bar fee" or whatever bullshit they called it. we laughed at the doorpeople and just went to park right next door instead.
anyway, this place sucks imo. too small and narrow. do yourselves a favor and skip it and just go to park. -

The music was great, crowd was attractive, and the space is very beautiful. There is no real space for dancing so people just made do with the sofas and tables.
I've recently seen a model get turned away at the door - on a Monday night. Even though this place has seen better times, I'm impressed with how it has maintained its exclusivity. -

NY
In case you're wondering, yes, Avenue is where Earth used to be. Right next to the Park. Don't get your lines confused. There were plenty of people who meant to go to the Park and ended up in the line for Avenue.
Recommend going with lots of girls if you're a guy and if you're a girl, going with another gal pal will get you past the velvet ropes much faster. Either that or you buy bottle service.
The space inside is huge and cavernous, and despite the sticky floors, the place is well ventilated, not too pushy and has good music!!
Um- but drinks are EXPENSIVE! You should def. pre-party before coming here. Bathrooms are clean, which is awesome. Also, there is always a bouncer on the main level to ensure no crazy drunken foolishness erupts into trouble.
Fun place, but I still prefer the more low key, low maintenance scene. -
Review from Lina F.
This lounge, bar, dinner place is your typical Chelsea place. It's pretentious and filled with people willing to pay for overpriced drinks. I had ordered a Bombay Sapphire gin and tonic and a Maker's Mark and soda. The damage was $26 smackaroos!!! They were both strong so don't worry about they being light handed on the booze.
The beats were sweet - trance, techo then a mix of hip-hop/pop - the usual popular music. So everyone's musical tastes will be satisfied. Unfortunately, there's no 1 place to dance so prepare to dance around your area or by a speaker which I ended up doing. There is table service, but it wasnt one of those nights for me.
