Review from Vicki B.
Bellevue, KY
I am a regular Avenue Brew customer and a Bellevue neighbor. This is a great, eclectic little coffee shop that works hard to make its customers happy. The environment is friendly and the staff even remember my regular coffee order. Best of all, they are dog-friendly at their outdoor tables and they even bring each of my pups a biscuit treat when we stop by for a visit.
Recommendations:
1) Specialty coffee drinks - I personally can't get enough of the Mocha Latte (with Ghirardelli chocolate syrups in regular or sugar-free) or Dawn's Frozen Peanut Butter Mocha Frappe if you're looking to cool down on a hot day. I also go for the Dirty Hippie or the Caramel Macchiato but I think you'd have a hard time missing on any of their coffee drinks.
2) Baked goods - Almost all of the baked goods are made on site from scratch and I've yet to have one I didn't thoroughly enjoy. My personal favorites are the massive chocolate chip brownie (more than enough for two people), the cinammon muffin and the blueberry muffin.
3) Hamburgers -- One word - excellent!
4) Expanded new menu -- if you haven't tried the Brew in a while, give it another look-see. Their menu has expanded for breakfast and lunch with lots of new items to try. I enjoy the new yogurt parfait and the hummus plate, as well as the new french toast and pancakes on the breakfast menu. Favorite stand-bys would be the breakfast sandwiches or the quiches.
Room for improvement:
1) Crowded weekends -- this place gets crowded on weekend mornings so don't plan to get in and out in five minutes, especially if you're ordering food. You'll have a bit of a wait through the line to order and a 10-15 minute wait for your food orders. Keep in mind that you can call ahead and they will have your drink and food ready to go for you when you arrive.
2) Seating -- I saw a couple of reviews in here that say the seating is uncomfortable. I've never felt that way. It is a hodge-podge of random furniture but, in my opinion, that's part of what makes it homey. There are several types of tables/chairs, including some that are tucked up in the store-front windows for a quieter experience.
All in all, Avenue Brew beats the pants off the chain coffee shops and is an awesome addition to Bellevue's Fairfield Avenue shopping district. If you get a specialty coffee from Christine and Larry, I guarantee you won't be too impressed with Starbucks after that!! -

I happened upon Avenue Brew about a month ago when I realized I had an almost-expired LivingSocial deal. I'd been meaning to check the place out but hadn't really found the time.
As it turns out, time is a good thing to have when you go to Avenue Brew. Two of us went and ordered breakfast omelettes, and it might have taken us over 15 minutes to get our order. But, I realize that they're limited by their facilities.
The important thing is that the food was DELICIOUS, relatively well-priced, and served in a friendly, cozy environment. I'll definitely be back, and I recommend that you check it out too - just don't go when you're in a hurry. -

I'm so conflicted about Avenue Brew.
I want to love this cute little coffee shop on Bellevue but there are just some things that keep me from coming back. And they are things that could possibly change (and I hope they do.)
This is an adorable little coffee shop on the main stretch of Bellevue's shopping district. It's colorfully decorated, there are two rooms for you to sit in and the food is quality. I've got a few different type of sandwiches and it always comes out warm and delicious.
However, it is slow. So slow. The last time I went there, there was only the owner working behind the counter and her mother was cooking in the back. And they had a line almost to the door. She was also trying to replace coffee, answer phones and talk to customers. It was so chaotic. I felt so bad for her, until I learned this wasn't a one time type thing but happened often, as I watched it happen again.
The hours are also a little wonky, as they close at 4pm on Monday and Tuesday and 3pm on Sunday but are open later on other days. It's frustrating when you're in the area looking for coffee or food only to find it closed at a time that, if it was the next day, they'd be open.
Avenue Brew can also get crowded quickly as people wait for their meals, so watch out for that.
Honestly, it's such a cute shop with great atmosphere and the owner is a very friendly woman. There are just a bunch of little things that make it hard to fully love it. Right now If I could do 3.5 I would. And I'm more than willing to come back and try again, and improve the review if the place gets a little better. -

Another case where I wish I could do 3.5 stars. I've given Avenue Brew a few more tries since my first review and I've found a lot more positives, but I still can't rate it a full 4.
Yays:
Coupons ($5 off from Entertainment Book and Buy 1 Get 1 50% off Breakfast Sandwich via Yelp Check-in)
Cheerful, helpful service
Graffiti wall
Window tables so you can people-watch Fairfield Ave while you sit
Good food - goetta egg & cheese breakfast sandwich = nom. Also, breakfast served all day
Boos:
Food orders take foreverrrr so be prepared for a wait
Hours - only open til 4pm
Inside is not very conducive to working or reading. Music is on the loud side and somehow there isn't the same 'stay a while' vibe that say, Coffee Emporium or even Starbucks gives offListed in: 20[100]12

When I posted my first review of Avenue Brew in 2010 ended it with "Let's hope the upward trend continues."
It has.
The place has improved on their drinks and food and they've become a part of the community like no other shop on Fairfield Ave.
I stopped by on Saturday and while the place was busy Kristen and Joe not only served us - with just a touch of confusion - but made us feel at home and comfortable.Listed in: The Yelp 100 Challenge, Bellevue Places-my town

Review from John Y.
Cincinnati, OH
Avenue Brew is a cool eclectic coffee shop centrally located in Bellevue's beautiful historic Fairfield Avenue business district. The shop, recently expanded boasts a full menu of coffees as well as several delicious meals. Trust me, I've eaten at this place almost every week since they first opened.
For food I can highly recommend the hamburger which always tastes divine. There is a choice of cheeses and I typically wonder between the pepperjack and the cheddar. The Callahan panini is also a very solid choice. For salads, their chicken Caesar salad is amazing.
But why am I talking about food when this is a COFFEE shop right!? Luckily Christine, the owner, has had years of experience as an expert barista. She can make anything and everything from dirty hippies (chai latte plus a shot of espresso) to the perfect cup of house blend.
So stop in, get a cup, grab a bite and write your name on the wall! -

I live so close to Avenue Brew and I so want this to be my go-to coffee spot. But, it just can't be.
The main problem is the speed of service here. Most of my coffee stops are when I'm already running late to be somewhere else. Every time I've stopped by I've left frustrated with how long it took to get my latte or even a cup of coffee sometimes.
I will say though that this slower service can lead to a more relaxed atmosphere. This spot is good for sitting around with a friend for a few hours. Or grabbing a muffin and a cup of coffee and tackling the cross word puzzle in the paper.Listed in: Best of Bellevue, Caffeinate me!!!!!

What a delightful place in Bellevue. There are tables in the windows along the street and a full menu. The Greek salad was okay, but the caprese panini was awesome. Good solid latte, fairly tasty muffin, cute funky ambiance, very nice owner.

I live in the lovely neighborhood of Bellevue so I frequen the Avenue Brew. Regarding the poor review below, I generally go to the store 4+ times a week and I have NEVER seen anything like you mention in your review. Just sayin'.
The coffee is great! I buy beans here to brew at home and they are phenomenal. I think I have probably sampled nearly every baked good offering and they are all very tasty. Plus they make ALL of their food in house, unlike the big chain coffee joints. Try anything on the menu---you won't be disappointed. Particularly recommend the caprese panini.
What really makes this place are the owners, Christine and Larry. They are warm, welcoming and genuinely happy to see each
and every customer (unlike the teenagers
working at McCoffee-type joints).
Also I heard from Christine that there is soon to be a patio opening up! Sweet! -
Review from Ashley H.
This place was alright... I think the atmosphere and the weird service took away from the quality drink I had. I got a mango smoothie, which was delicious. But it was partly made and cashiered by the owner's daughter, who couldn't have been more than 8 or 9. (I also saw her sneeze while walking back into the ktichen area and she didn't cover her mouth.) The place was cute, but kind of cramped in spots, although the window seats were nice and private. All in all, I might try this place again, but it wouldn't upset me if I didn't.

Great environment and the coffee is marvelous.
If you're looking for a custom-cooked breakfast go elsewhere, but the microwaved items we had were very good and there was a wonderful variety of items to choose from.
The staff is friendly and the seating a mixture of tables/chairs, couches, etc... -

Bellevue, KY
Awesome little independent Mom n' Pop coffee shop. Dogs welcome at the few outside tables. Great coffees, with a good selection of home made breakfast and lunch items. AMAZING chocolate chip muffins. Live music usually first Friday of the month for Shop Bellevue. They are now open 7 days a week. GOOD NEWS! The patio will soon be open and they are working on a liquor license. Larry and Christine give their shops tons of personality. They are very connected and caring of their Bellevue community neighbors. I consider Christine my barista and personal therapist! The chocolate chip muffins are irresistible and if you are lucky enough to get one, do it. They often sell out the entire tray to a certain local news personality.

Review from T P.
Cincinnati, OH
This place has positives and negatives.
1. Good quality coffee and espresso beans. Local coffee shops generally seem to use espresso beans with a distinct, not-so-good bite. Avenue Brew's beans are good.
2. Bad quality syrups. I've worked in coffee shops and know that flavored syrups can be quite expensive. However, if you don't shell out the money for a quality syrup then you don't get a good flavor. Skip the foo foo drinks at Avenue Brew because their syrups stink.
3. Atmosphere: wish this was the type of place I could hang out, drink coffee and work on the laptop. The decor is hodge-podge and more like a tacky home than a coffee shop. Most of the seating is tiny & uncomfortable. Also, there's usually some kind of distractingly bad music being played like disco.
4. Awesome baked goods! Everything I've tried in the sweets department has been fresh & very tasty.
5. Service: very pleasant and enthusiastic
6. Health Dept code violations!!!! Seriously. Ew. Anyone who's ever worked in food service or just has common sense knows that you don't eat in front of customers and you certainly don't stuff morsels of food between your lips AS you're making someone's coffee drink! The OWNER actually ate the whole time she made my drink. And by eat I mean tiny bites of candy or something which required that she touch her lips every time she put something in her mouth. Also, they serve lunch there too and while my drink was being made she allowed an older girl plus a child to stand behind the counter eating the potato chips they serve with lunch. Basically these two people were jamming their hands into a big communal box of husman's or whatever, sticking the chips in their mouths, licking their fingers and then going back to the communal box for more. Makes you want to go there and order a sandwich & chips eh?
