What would you do if you were stranded in an unfamiliar city with friends and family thousands of miles away?  If you said "bar crawl," you're awesome.  Avenue was one of the stops along my Tour de Anchorage, and I lucked out because this place is awesome!  The attentive bar staff and rockin' band are all well and good, but it's the patrons here that make Avenue the excellent place that it is.  I've visited many a bar in my day, but rarely have I encountered such friendly people inside.  I walked in by myself, had a few rounds, recruited some brave souls who agreed to be my liaisons to Anchorage's Saturday night scene, and the bar crawl rolled on.

This former dive bar has become the new hipster hot spot. They usually have decent music with a DJ on the weekends (with a petit dance floor). The drinks are reasonably priced, just make sure to order something simple. I like it because it's off the main downtown bar route and there always seems to be a random assortment of people.

I liked the space, I liked that they had pool, I liked that it was easy to order drinks,  I liked the many seating options, and I LOVED the games in the back where I got to practice fake hunting things like sharks and bats. Things I was entertained by- the locals all knew each other even thought they all seemed like such different types of people, the jukebox switched form Kid ROCK to Nelly to Wyclef to Guns and Roses to ________- all VERY LOUD, there were lots of wasted people on a Sunday night to watch, and lastly~ a few patrons wore sleeveless shirts while throwing darts or wrestling with each other even though it was in the 20's outside. To a Seattle person the avenue reminded me of a place in Ellensburg, Wa that we used to go to in college- only with the randomish mix of people and music ever- let's just say I was entertained and had a fun time with my friends.
