Avenue 805 has the best mussels. You get a giant piece of home made bread to soak up the sauce.
Kudos! -

The food was okay. It is just one of the many Richmond restaurants. The decor was run down and it was trying to be a upscale restaurant but it failed in a lot of ways. A couple friends and I went here for dinner and I had the mussels and a penne pasta dish. It looked great on the menu, but it was just okay. We all agreed that it was just okay.

Based on the prior Yelp reviews I wanted to try this cheap hidden jewel for brunch so I told the boyfriend I would treat him if he came with me. I like the hidden exterior so I was excited about going inside but as soon I walked in I was struck by 3 things that if I had listened to my gut feeling, I would have turned around and walked out before being seated:
1. only 1 table filled with old people (and the steady smell of your grandma's horrible perfume- the invariable "old lady smell", permeating the space due to the ceiling fans)
2. horribly depressing music on someone's ipod being played (way to set the mood).
3. dated decor in a dark, gloomy interior
But we were seated by a nice waitress, very pleasant, and reviewed the brunch menu. Meh.. nothing wowed either of us. I tried the breakfast sandwich and my date got the eggs ordinaire. BF pipes in here and says the eggs were cooked perfectly, but the bacon undercooked and the beer bread slice was cold and horrible tasting. The fruit's a nice touch, but presentation is lacking. My plate was big- actually 2 breakfast sandwiches for the advertised 1 (ok cook) but it looked sad and boring.. I liked that focaccia bread was used for the sandwich, but that was about it.
The potato cakes that everyone here is raving about are nothing special. The potato cake ravers should try the saffron potato cakes at Pescado's if they want to taste tasty, creative cakes. The one that's served on the plate at Avenue 805 is unoriginal and overly salted.
I would not recommend this place to anyone.. -

Very small, a bit hard to find, but well worth it. The food is quite good, the service is as good as one should expect at a tiny, hidden treasure, and the wine list is very good. Great for a slighty-dressed-up romantic dinner.

Avenue 805 may not look like much on the outside but inside it has a casual yet classy atmosphere. Two things struck me about the brunch menu: creativity and price. The offerings are both interesting and reasonably priced. More importantly the food did not disappoint. Appealing presentation, good ingredients, good execution. The crab cake with the eggs swanky was something special and you definitely don't want to miss out on the potato cakes.

Mos D, Thanks a bunch!
This is truly a great place for brunch.
I know the comparison may sound silly,
But haven't had food this good in the area since Millie's.
Mmmmm...........My taste buds got all dancy,
When I had the breakfast entree known as "The Fancy."
It came with shrimp, scallop, crab cakes, & greens w/ lemon dill aioli.
The portions were so huge I almost screamed "Holy Moly!"
Never heard of a Zamboni,
Until it was ordered by my local friend Tony.
Whoever thought of apricot nectar with champagne?
The combination itself is unusual & insane!
I was impressed by the wine varieties in the cellar.
The selection they have in stock is pretty stellar.
I don't mind coming back for cheap date night,
But my uppity friend would rather come during full price nights. -

I love Avenue 805 for lunch and brunch. Head in on a weekday, and the place is rarely busy, but the menu and food are great. You've got a selection of sandwiches, a few entrees, frittatas, salads and more. The salmon BLT is great with grilled salmon, crisp bacon, lettuce and tomato. Delish. Although lots of things on the menu look good, I continue to return to the Pesto Frittata. Pesto, eggs, Roma tomatoes and fresh mozzarella: it's full of flavor but not so heavy I want to go back to my desk and fall asleep after eating it. It comes with a delicious potato cake and grilled beer bread that is amazingly wonderful. The flavor is just right, and it comes out buttery and hot. It's irresistible.
I did recently deviate from my norm and order the daily quiche, which was fine. The standout, though, was a broiled half grapefruit with sugar and bourbon that came on the side. It left me wanting to go home and experiment with broiling my own.
In the summer, one of the "soups of the moment" is a cool cucumber avocado. This is another thing I can't get enough of. It's cool and creamy with a bit of spice on the finish. It's awesome.
Along with the lunch and brunch options, Avenue 805 is known for cheap date nights where you can get a bottle of wine, an appetizer, an entree and a dessert for $35. -

Reading the reviews I see where all the other Ave. 805 diners are! They're going to the place at brunch! I've never been to brunch, opting always for dinner I've always wondered how the restaurant stays in business since there are never any people in the restaurant.
The food is good though I wish that they had more vegetarian options. Why is it that every time an Italian place has one vegetarian option it's going to be eggplant? I freaking hate eggplant.
They have some really neat martini drinks. Nothing super special, but nice. The servers are nice people, the atmosphere is friendly and intimate. This would be a good place to take a date. -

How did I not know about this place? Went with some friends to Cheap Date Night recently, which K.J. also mentioned - the service was great, the food was yummy, and you simply cannot beat a deal like that: $35 for a bowl of fresh salad, a bowl of pasta, a bottle of wine, and dessert.
Since there were four of us, we had both salads - house with Parmesan peppercorn dressing, and Caesar - and then linguini Bolognese (meat sauce) and angel hair puttanesca. Of the two, the puttanesca was my favorite, with a great smoky tomato sauce redolent with garlic and a hint of anchovy.
The wines were a decent Chardonnay and a very drinkable Merlot - can't remember the vineyard on either one, but they were definitely a compliment to the meal.
Dessert was bread pudding, which I normally wouldn't go for - this was truly superb bread pudding, though!
There was enough food that two of us took leftovers home: both pasta and dessert.
Two thumbs up. -

Best Brunch in Richmond. This is one of those hidden treasures that people know about but nobody ever talks about. That's fine with me though because I've never had to wait in line for Sunday Brunch.
Try the Swanky Breakfast. Crab, Shrimp, and Scallop cakes Benedict style with red potatoes, fruit, and toast. The portions are huge, very inexpensive, and by far the best tasting in the city.
Additonally I have to comment on their ever changing menu headers, cell phone policies, etc... The only thing worse than paying for a bad meal is eating next to an uneducated diner. Avenue 805 does a good job of telling Mr. Cell phone to shut up.Listed in: Top Restaurants

I love the brunch! Only about 15 or so items but I have a feeling that they are all good. I've tried the pesto fritatta, grilled chicken sandwich, and the french toast. I've enjoyed it all and so have my friends. Usually they have a small but tasty side of fruit.
What makes me happy and dreaming of imitating is the potato cake!!! So yum. Flavorful, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
Their drinks are pretty reasonably priced too for brunch, about $4.50.
Not too busy around noon-1pm on Sunday. -

After reading the other reviews, I had high hopes for this place. There was a nice selection of breakfast cocktails and the potato pancakes were good. I had the 805 omelet, which was just ok. My husband really liked his egg sandwich though. All in all, I might come back, but there are other places in Richmond, like Millie's or Mezzanine, that I would choose first.

A metro/DC native, I would make the drive back to Richmond, in crazy traffic, just to go back to this restaurant.
Chicken piccata was flavorful, filling, and very tasty. The side of pasta that it comes with was perfect - it was like two meals in one.
Boyfriend had the fancy mac and cheese - with scallops, shrimp, and sausage - he couldn't stop raving about it.
The appetizer - shrimp over mashed potatoes was incredible.
Service was top notch. The food was wonderful. I wish this restaurant was in DC. -

I went for brunch, and was an instant fan. Located directly across from the Science Museum of Virginia, Avenue 805 is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it hole in the wall. Inside is a homey and well tended little joint with some of the best comfort food in the city. Everything is fresh, everything is delicious. Also, they make a mean cup of coffee. I'll be coming back for dinner. Soon.

Went on a whim for Cheap Date night; you're not going to find a better deal for $35.00. Bottle of red Portuguese table wine, huge salad, huge bowl of pasta and dessert, more food than two can finish. My only complaint was the Caesar salad, too much lemon for my taste, but the bread pudding was fantastic! I will be back to try other menu items.

I have returned! And I now return to you with additional praises for this restaurant. It produces tasty things, and I hear that is a food vendor's purpose. Additionally, they are relatively inexpensive.

I was in Richmond for the weekend, and my friend and I wanted a fun local spot to have brunch. We found this little place on Yelp, and we were not disappointed! After searching for parking, we snuck into a corner booth and enjoyed one of the most delightful brunches I have had in ages. We both started off with the coffee, which was wonderful. I ordered the pesto frittata, which was referenced in an earlier review, and i agree, it was not so heavy that I needed a nap afterwards, but enough that it was sufficient for a lunch meal. It came with a delicious potato cake that rivaled the ones my father made me as a child (which is a bold statement for me to make!), some fresh fruit, and a slice of their beer bread toast. The flavor of the bread was wonderful, but it was a bit too brown. If the toast had not been quite so crispy, this might have gotten a 5 star review from me. My friend ordered the veggie omelete, and it was also delightful. Next time I visit Richmond, I'll be back.
