I honestly had to talk myself into writing this review...this place is so good, I don't know that I want everyone to know about it.
I moved to Seattle from Phoenix a year ago and had been searching for Mexican food that could even remotely compete with the level I had grown accustomed to there. I will say that here in Seattle, I haven't found better than this yet...and that's saying a lot.
The service is great, always polite, quick and unobtrusive. The atmosphere is nothing exciting but quite honestly, that's not why I go there...it's all about the food. Don't let the exterior/location fool you - this one is worth checking out. -

I wish I had the same experience as last time...sadly things are starting to go downhill. I typically order delivery as I am in their delivery zone and they are always quick when it comes to delivery. Not to mention that I haven't found any other Mexican restaurants that deliver so Aventura is usually my go to place when I am hungry and not in the mood to cook.
My second to last delivery order was just OK...I chalked it up to it being a one time mistake. I ordered a torta and asked for no jalapenos but when it came it had a ton of jalapenos and no avocado. I also ordered some tacos for my bf and when it arrived they were soggy and unappealing. Ordered again the other night and the food was still lacking. BF ordered the carnitas and said they were OK but not great. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros which is supposed to come with over easy eggs. They were hard as rocks when they arrived and even though I understand it is delivery the carry over heat couldn't have caused the eggs to cook that much. Ordered a small tamale plate that was supposed to come with rice and beans which it didn't so essentially I paid a higher price for 1 small tamale.
Don't get me wrong, I will probably order from them again but I am sad to say my favorite Mexican restaurant is no longer Aventura. Oh well...here is hoping for a better experience next time.Listed in: Places I frequent in my…

Review from Sarah B.
I eat here all the time.
All. The time. All of it. So much times, do I eat here.
Perhaps more telling: I would continue to eat here all the time even if I didn't live a block away.
I moved away from Yakima - a city with burritos on every table and a taco truck on every corner - and had not found a Mexican joint in Seattle proper that satisfied my unending hunger for carne asada until Aventura opened. It was as if choirs of angels burst forth from the heavens and threw roasted jalapenos at me but managed not to hit me in the eye because that would have made me sad, and Aventura does not make me sad. Everything I have had here has been magic except for a weird vegetarian burrito I got once that had lima beans in it, but we're not going to talk about it because it was when I didn't eat meat and therefore I cannot speak for my sanity at the time.
Service is always friendly and quick and they even deliver, for those days where putting on pants without an elastic waistband just seems like too much trouble. They always seem happy to see you. (Or maybe it's just me, since I'm in here all the time. Or because I'm cool.) Really, though, the owner is a super friendly guy, always more than kind to Mister B and I, and it's nice to see a small business owner so involved in running their own establishment.
Restaurants in this location don't tend to stay open long, but I hope that Aventura bucks the trend, especially as this intersection becomes busier. I will continue to do my part by feasting on their delicious offerings as often as possible.Listed in: Greenhood and Beyond

Not sad I went here, and the deep fried quesadillas are a must-try. Love that green sauce they serve with it. "Vegetarian friendly" as far as the dishes being meatless, but don't think about the lard. Speaking of lard, holy smokes gut bomb! I needed a nap after lunch.
Saturday nights they have Mexican music, and soccer is always on the tv. -

They know me and my husband by name. A nice simple family place, quiet during the week, busy bar and music weekends. Great prices, consistently good food, great service- very friendly.

Talk about a well kept secret! Aventura is one of my favorite places and the people need to know about it!
Everything we've ever had here has been delicious! The salsa is fabulous, the margaritas are wonderful, the service is good and everything seems to be made with love.
But if I can say one thing: TRY THE DANG QUESADILLA! They're filled full of deliciousness and then........... They deep fry it. You've never had anything like it!!! My good lord those things are freaking AMAZING!
Patron this place, please. We need it to stay open! -
Review from Lisa T.
The space isn't much to talk about it. Yeah, it's large with plenty of tables and a big screen TV, but nothing special. In fact, we walked in...and no one came over for a few minutes...not until I flagged them down in the kitchen.
Despite that - you really don't go here for the "ambiance." It's all about the food baby! And it definitely hits the mark. Their carnitas...SO GOOD! Stuffed myself silly b/c it was so delish. Their version of quesadillas - awesome! You can get them filled with a variety of things...I opted for potato and cheese, and it was seriously, amazing.
Even the free chips and salsa are really good. The salsa has quite a hit of heat - so beware.
The servers were really friendly and as attentive as they could be for being (what I'd consider) understaffed.
Can't wait to go back! -

Price doesn't determine quality. I was attracted to this joint because I heard they got deep fried quesadillas. I mean, who can't resist something like that?
I went in, the place was kind of crude-individual booths like in diners but the sofa was a weird color. There is a "chandelier" hanging on the roof with fake candle lights. They also got a secret bar behind, if you're over 21, it'll stay like that until the owner has his bar license. Now, it's not so secret anymore, isn't it?
Got the potato and cheese deep fried quesadilla. They also gave me a complimentary salsa and chips. The salsa got quite a kick, but certainly not enough for me, if you can't handle the heat, quit. The chips were like any other chips, crunchy and corn-y. My quesadilla came out looking like a king (the size of the whole plate- ~8inches. I was surprised, thoroughly. Who knew you could get that much food below 5 dollars?
They didn't sacrifice the amount and quality either, which I admired. The skin was cooked until perfect golden brown, but the outer edges were a bit overcooked and burnt (which I like because it was thin and made it super crunchy on the edges, like surrounded by a fence of chip crunchiness). When you slice it in half, the mozzarella was extremely stringy, it follows your spoon, stretching over boundaries like a mythical story.
Sadly, I didn't really like the potatoes, they weren't warm enough and they tasted bland with a slight mashed potato mush. The cheese made up for it though, although very difficult to chew, it's hot and melting all over the place. More cheese, more me. The total bill came to $4.95 with tax. What a great deal! If you have a bear apetite and want good comfort mexican food- this is the place to go!
Tip: Only eat when warm! If it's cold, the oil goes everywhere and greases up the skin. And the insides become mushed and soggy. It becomes a completely different taste. -

Aventura is pretty much the standard that I expect from Mexican food after living in Los Angeles for a couple of years. It's not the "best" Mexican food in the world by any stretch, but as far as Seattle is concerned, it is pretty high up there.
No, it's not the healthiest food on the planet, but there is a lot of things out there that taste GREAT that aren't healthy. You don't eat here if you are watching your waistline, you eat here because you want comfort food.
It cracks me up when people compare this to places like Gorditos, because it's apples and oranges, but please don't kid yourselves into thinking Gorditos is "healthy" either. Just because they have it written on their window does not make it healthy, people. There is *nothing* good about a burrito that is a garbage-filled cylinder the size of a baby...and that's what Gorditos offers, in my own personal opinion. Garbage. Feel free to read my review of it if you wish.
What Aventura offers is Mexican home-cookin' made with cheese...and yes, probably lard (all the best refried beans from traditional recipes use lard), and *GASP* some grease is sure to be found. And while I am on the topic, they really do have the best refried beans I have had in a great while.
So if you like feel-good Mexican food, an owner that clearly has a lot of passion for his business, his customers, and his family recipes, then Aventura is the place to be.
People are always whining about Seattle not having that great of Mexican food, but then they line up at the worst places. Try going to the places with the meager storefronts and the high yelp ratings (like this one) and you might find Seattle has a bit more to offer. -

My husband and I have now decided this is "our restaurant". We go at least twice a month. They have a bar in the back, and the menu is really good. They have Carnitas on the bar menu, and it is as good as this place I used to go to in Tijuana called Carnitas Uruapan (it was all they did.) Their bar is well stocked and well manned. They have a huge projector screen TV for watching whatever sport thing is happening, but it's rare that you can't find a seat.
They also have the best Karaoke on friday nights (it's a block from the Rickshaw, which is so crowded on fridays that it's pointless.) and apparently they have live music on Saturdays (I've not made it there on a Saturday yet.)
The owner and the staff are all the nicest, most accommodating people. I adore this spot!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Our first visit to Aventura was so very charming. The owner is sincere, sweet and attentive. He introduced each dish to us like an Iron Chef. The passion for his cuisine was obvious.
The quesadillas are unique- deep fried. I love the potato and cheese- which is a rare find, but there is a wide variety from which to choose.
Their pozole is out of this world, and well worth the ~$9 for a large bowl.
Hopeful that this local family owned business will prosper. Every return visit has been pleasant. Good food, quick service, reasonable prices. -

We went based on the Yelp reviews. They are trying hard to do a great job. The deep fried quesadilla is interesting and very large. The chicken and cheese were plentiful and tasty. My wife had an enchilada that was good but not off the chart. Once isn't fair to judge a place so I will go again. The owner was really nice and wants to make your experience pleasant.

(Friday Night Take Out-6pm)
This is another establishment so close to my home, you'd think I would spend a little more time there. Unfortunately, I've given Aventura three chances to wow me with their food and this third time, I'm feeling like it's time to give up on this quaint little neighborhood spot.
It's not that the owner isn't doing all that he can from a service perspective. I mean, seriously. He has tried every trick in the book, every promotion in the restaurant game and always greets you with a smile and a kind greeting when you step in the door. He always makes you feel welcome and is friendly and engaging. I often see him outside sweeping the front of his restaurant and taking pride in his establishment, even when the chips were against him (this location has had the "kiss of death" for YEARS now-not to mention the 5 months of construction in front of his doorstep when he opened) You can tell this guy takes pride in what he does and really enjoys owning his restaurant. I can really appreciate that and I respect him for his hard work in what seems to be an uphill battle.
That being said, it's the food that I find suffers.
I have read the raving reviews and have picked through the praises of authenticity and I will honestly say: I'm just not thrilled with Aventura's food. Do I know authentic Mexican food from some Seattle restaurant that claims it serves authentic Mexican food? No, I probably don't. I'm the kind of cat that digs some Happy Hour at Peso's and loves him a giant burrito at Gordito's, so no, I don't profess to be a connoisseur of all food Mexican. What I do know is, I likes what I likes and when I finish up my meal at Aventura, I always feel a little disappointed and always a few pounds heavier.
It's heavy, heavy food, IMHO.
The "special" quesadillas that everyone's raving about?
I've had two different varieties on two different occasions and really, they just seem to be quesadillas made with thicker, gordita-style tortillas and deep fried enough to make your heart wave a white surrender flag. HEAVY stuff that makes you feel HEAVY.
I've tried multiple combination dinners with multiple variations, different appetizers and burritos and just can't help feeling like I'm eating food from a Mexican fast food chain. The food just tastes..... boring, lackluster, often lukewarm temperature and without much of anything to spark your taste buds.
Entrees are priced decently. Most are between the $7-$12 range and are accompanied by run-of-the-mill beans, rice and tortilla chips. The dinners will fill you up and leave you full. Oh...so.....full....I don't want to feel like I have a brick in my gut, I want to feel like I've been dazzled with some tasty food.
The truth is, I don't take joy in reporting my honest opinion here.
I really DO want this place to stick around longer than the merry-go-round of businesses that have been in-and-out of this location. The owner is great for the neighborhood and the bar and happy hour seem to be growing (haven't checked out either yet.)
I am determined to not give up on this place.
I have my eye on the pork verde and have even considered throwing it out there and trying the carne asada, always a good measure of a quality spot. I would also consider trying their chorizo and eggs (one of my faves) and stopping in for a drink at the bar.
The interior leaves much to be desired and is often quite empty in the restaurant portion, but the owner has INDEED made strides on decor and lighting since the last time I was in there and it was just bare walls and eerie silence.
3 stars is an "average/mediocre" rating for me, even though Yelp considers it "A-OK". I'm just hoping I can report back awhile from now (after I have recovered from this latest food-snorefest) and bump that rating up! -

I would have never stopped in here save the positive comments from Yelp (visually looks more like a grocery store than a restaurant but whatever).
Surprisingly, it's not bad. It's typical cheesy Tex-Mex-y kinda food, but it has some good flavor.
I was told the carne asada is good so I will come back and try that.. plus the barbacoa sounds good - might have to try that too.
This is really a 3.5 star review, but I'm rounding up because there's nice people and they're trying hard. -

Good refried beans. Low prices. I wasn't a big fan of the fried quesadillas, as they were to heavy for me. The chimichamga was very tasty.

I'll admit it, I'm not the biggest fan of Mexican food. But it was my boyfriend's week to pick the meal, and after looking at the yelp reviews he wanted to try Aventura. I didn't know anything about the place, but my boyfriend was adamant that we order a quesadilla to start. When it came out looking more like a calzone I didn't know what to think, but boy was it delicious. It was fried and cheesy and amazing. For my main meal I ordered the garlic prawns with mushrooms. It was full of flavor and the portion was huge! boyfriend was particularly impressed with the carne asada in his chimichanga My It was also nice to talk to the owner's son and find out the history of not only the restaurant, but also the history of the food and recipes.
We were both really impressed and will be coming back soon. -

I've only had take out but the food was good. Better than Taco Truck. I ordered a dinner plate with 3 tacos, rice and beans. It was a great deal for $6. I also liked the chips and salsa.
Next time I will dine in and try other items on the menu! -

After receiving a postcard from Aventura in the mail and reading the great reviews here on Yelp, my boyfriend and I decided to stop in when a craving for Mexican food hit us. We came in an hour before closing and had the place to ourselves. The owner was super friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the free quesadilla appetizer, unlike any quesadilla I had eaten before. It was a thick corn tortilla stuffed with cheese and diced potatoes, deep-fried and served with a spicy dipping salsa. YUM. It was awesome. We learned that the recipe for this quesadilla comes from his mother-in-law in Mexico City.
The chips were warm and the salsa had just the right amount of spice. Our dinners were excellent. My boyfriend loved his chicken fajitas. They were well-seasoned and not too salty. My taco salad was also delicious.
After eating, the owner took us to the back room where the bar will be located once he receives his liquor license (probably before the end of the year). I look forward to drinking cerveza and eating some more delicious Mexican food in the near future. Thanks for a great meal, Aventura! We are expecting a repeat visit really soon. -

The entrées are standard fare, good flan. Decent house margarita and a robust tequila menu. One outstanding thing was their fried quesadillas (not on the regular menu, ask for both menus). I had the shredded beef and the meat was tender and well flavored. It was packed with delicious cheese and the tortilla they used was hand made and deep fried. Great place to go for a fried quesadilla.

This restaurant escorted me to delish city...good prices, big portions. The moment I bit into their glorious Chalupa, I found myself maniacally pumping my fist in the air. You made a mad man out of me, Aventura Mexican Restaurant. Bravo, Bravo.

I was very excited to try this place after seeing all of the rave reviews. I have been here three times now and while the food is pretty good I have yet to be wowed. The only thing I have had here that was above average is the refried beans, perhaps the best I have ever eaten. But excellent refried beans aren't quite enough to win my undying love. However with good prices and a convenient location near my home I am inclined to continue my research.

we've been here a few times for beer and late night dinner because it's closer and less-weird than the rickshaw.
the staff are friendly, the cheesy spanish music is awesome, the bartender is also pretty nice. the service is decent, but we're usually the only ones in there when we go.
i marked it down one star because last night when we went there was a super creep at the bar that was wasted and being a dick to the bartender... and i'm pretty sure it was her boyfriend. it was just weird. also, the were out of the "mexican" beers on tap, so i had to get a pyramid, so i was sort of bummed about that.
ps - the veggie burrito is enormous and awesome. maybe not the most flavorful, but the veggies were fresh and it's filling, so it's a winner, as far as i'm concerned. -

I don't have the faintest idea why the front dining section of this place is empty, or close to it, almost every time I'm in here. Bistec con papas is my go-to item here, there's far too few potatoes in most of the mexican places in this town.

This is my sister's favorite Mexican restaurant. She'd give it five stars. I'd say that Aventura Mexican Restaurant is a cut above average and average is three stars, so I give it four stars. Four really solid finger-licking stars. I've been here a few times and each time it has been pretty darn good. The service is excellent. I really like that the owner always comes out and checks on us and provides a few trade secrets. Like deep frying the quesadillas. You can't go wrong with that. And they keep the water glasses full. You can't go wrong with that either. As a matter of fact, if you want some Mexican food, you can't go wrong with Aventura. Give it a try!

I think all the reviews on this place hit the nail on the head. I eat there AT least twice a month. Growing up in the greenwod area, I concure that it is a great addition to the hood. I think the staff are super friendly, attentive, and on point in every way. The food is great, I eat the flautas everytime.
I strongly advise you try this place for yourself. This building has been so many different things in the past 20 years. It would be nice to see this place stick.

It's my wife's birthday today but she said to use Yelp to find a place that delivered. So, I did a search for restaurants, delivery. Aventura Mexican came up first because it's very close to where we live. We read the reviews, especially JC D's. All the reviews were very good, and since we like to support local business and really like authentic foods, we decided to go for it. Because we couldn't find a menu on-line we decided to just go in. Are we glad we did!
The owner, Heron Garcia, seated us and we also asked for the "other" menu. Starting with the warm tortilla chips and nice, picante salsa and horchata to drink, the fun began. After reading the reviews we had to try the quesadillas, I had the chorizo and my wife had the mushroom. Both were excellent. To add to that, she had the adobada taco, which was very flavorful and a nice touch of fresh lime juice and I had an adobada torta, a very good pork served on a bodillo. We thought we were done, and stuffed, but Heron talked us into flan. Yumm, glad he did, best I have had!
We didn't go to the Cantina but we saw many going in so I would guess it's pretty good as well and they serve their food there also.
Heron said that he opened last October, 2009, and because of the construction on Greenwood, business had been slow but picking up now that the construction is pretty much complete. We will be back for sure and encourage others to try this great Mexican dining experience. -

i hope they turn off the fluorescents sometime and make use of the other lights, that would make it a lot nicer... -

This morning I returned to Aventura thinking breakfast. Maybe a breakfast burrito or maybe a tamale. As I perused the menu, I decided it might be lunch time. I ordered the Quesadilla with cheese and Tinga, a chipolte flavored shredded beef filling. But this is a quesadilla with a twist... It's stuffed into a pastry type dough, then ... yes! Deep fried! Putting the wishful, back into the sinful... It is served with an very fresh tasting tomatilla sauce. Simple yet delicious, and so reasonably priced; Quesadilla with chips and salsa $3.85

I'd probably give this place 3 stars based on the food but the vibe took it down a notch. I'm not sure how people can say this is the best Mexican food they ever had unless they've never had Mexican food outside of Seattle. It was ok, above average at best - I had a combo plate with a enchilada and chicken taco. The taco when delivered had already had a side melted onto the plate it was ok. Chips were better than average, salsa a bit spicy - better than average. The margarita was a bit odd, no ice, more of a martini margarita but ok. My main complaint was the loud TV in the back which was blaring away and the newscast in Spanish that was talking about a massacre in Mexico. Not exactly something I wanted to explain to our 9 year old son.
Overall not bad, prices were pretty decent in comparison to Luisa's or Rosita's probably just not worth a return visit. -

I so badly wanted to love this place. The cute little owner is so excited when you walk in and proudly shows off the place. The first time, it was good, I had an inexplicable stomachache that night though. I wanted to try it again because the service was spot on and prices were reasonable. On our second visit, the owner seemed less enthusiastic and almost seemed disappointed when I presented the coupon he gave us for a free appetizer on our first visit. The chips, salsa and margaritas were good, but my lettuce in the taco salad was not fresh. The menu is extensive, make sure you also get a copy of the authentic menu. There is no ambiance, so make sure you bring someone interesting to talk to.

AVENTURA IS SO GOOD!!! It gets five stars because of the delicious food and kind, attentive staff. The beans and rice that accompanied my enchilada were delicious and flavorful, not bland at all like how some other restaurants make them. The enchilada was tasty and had fresh lettuce and tomato on top, with a generous dollop of sour cream. My friend's burrito was pretty awesome, too. The chips and salsa tasted home made. I have been here four times and have yet to be disappointed. Granted I've only had burritos and enchiladas, but if the staples are this delicious you can imagine how good the rest iof the menu is.
I'm sad that this place is easy to miss when driving by - it's attached to a mini-market and doesn't look much like a restaurant from the outside. The decor and layout inside is really not that great, but honestly I don't care because the food and service is so great making it totally worth it. I reeeeeally hope this place makes it. Supposedly they have kareoke on Friday nights and a band on Saturday nights, but I have yet to go on those nights.
Please support this neighorhood restaurant! Great food and super nice, hardworking staff!!! -
