Love the bed. Like the cool room AC and Flat Screen TV etc. The bathroom is part of the luxury experience (like the bed) with the best lotions and shampoos I've had in a hotel since... Ever.
Tip. Bring best walking shoes to Catalina. Dancing shoes are for after dinner. Rent the scuba dive gear at the island to save your back. The dive near the Casino is fantastic. Get Wet. It is worth it. IMHO
Tell the hotel you want a pick up at the ferry if you bring your gear and they can help you with your bags.
It isn't cheap, but Avalon is a great little boutique just off the main drag. One of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. Complimentary cookies and lemonade in the lobby, a courteous staff, peace and quiet, the Avalon is a class act through-and-through.
Usually when I stay at a "non-points-getting" hotel, I go through severe withdrawals.
Sometimes they are so bad that I go online during my stay at said hotel and purchase items on my "points-getting-credit-card" to make up the difference.
So I have a problem...big deal.
Even though it pained me to have to stay at this hotel, I was damn glad I did.
I really can't describe how friendly the ENTIRE staff was. From setting up a personal buffet for me and my party out by the koi pond to making sure our bikes were all ready for our triathlon. They went above and beyond the call of duty.
Then, on Sunday, when we were supposed to leave, all the ferries were canceled due to high winds so we had to stay an extra night.
The hotel kept us informed of the ferry schedules, gave us an INSANELY reduced rate, and took good care of us while we, and the rest of the 1,000 people on the island, were stranded.
And when someone, not gonna mention any names here, forgot a mini chocolate mint in her pocket and fell asleep on it, the staff didn't judge us considering it looked like someone had a major accident in the bed.
Ahhh, the joys of hotel rooms.
Flat screens, free breakfast and free wifi. I highly suggest this hotel.
Just don't crap the bed with mini chocolates.
Detergent.

For my boyfriends birthday and our first trip to Avalon, and I decided to go with the Avalon Hotel. It wasnt right on the main street so we wouldnt be woken up by noisy tourists and the smell of all the restaurants in the morning. It turned out to be just perfect. I booked 206, the ocean view with a french balcony, and it was gorgeous. The windows were huge and the bed had a memory foam mattress with temperpedic pillows, and a little flat screen tv. The bathroom was gorgeous and the shampoos and body scrubs and such smelled fantastic. Like an orange fruity creamsicle. And they gave us free peach snapples and water in our mini fridge along with popcorn for the microwave, robes and beach towels, and also you could get free dvds and beach chairs at the front desk.
The only problems were:
1. the dvd we wanted was actually a demo version that had it written across the top of the screen, and our dvd remotes didn't work.
2. there were 2 unfriendly people at the front desk
3. they offered free laptops but theres only 5, so the other rooms rented them and kept them so we couldn't get one.
other than that, we had an amazing room. We both loved it. I miss it already.

I only stay the Avalon or Aurora. I prefer the Aurora, but they are the best ones on the island in my opinion. Avalon has bigger rooms than the Aurora.
