smoked salmon bagel! served so beautifully. tastes magnificent. fresh, soft, toasted bagel. perfect smoked salmon. cream cheese, chopped hard boiled egg, red onions, and capers all served on the sides. lovely.
perfect for brunch and word on the street is they've got live jam sessions in the evening during the wk.
Best kept secret in Brooklyn. One of my favorite restaurants in the area. I got hooked one night on a beet salad and have been thinking about it ever since.
They change their menu every few weeks, and each time I go back its been delicious. I don't think I've ever eaten anything there I didn't think was amazing.
The place is cozy and the service is fantastic - family run (I think) and very friendly!
If they have bread pudding on the menu - get it. I'm not a bread pudding fan by any means but this is the one exception. I went with a friend who's a bread putting fanatic. After I had a bite, I almost shoved him aside for it.
I can't say enough about Autour du Monde. It is one of my favorite places in Brooklyn, and it happens to be a block away from me. I feel like if this same restaurant were to move to Manhattan, it would be considered haute-cuisine, and the prices would be much, much higher. BUT they're not. They are reasonable for the quality of food you're getting.
Everything is prepared in a classically French way, and I truly feel like I'm dining in a French bistro somewhere in Paris whenever I go in.
Here's what we ordered last time for brunch:
-two coffees ($4)
-omelet of the day, comes with home fries and salad ($8.50)
-eggs benedict, comes with home fries and salad ($8)
-side of spinach ($4.50)
total: $25!
The owner is extremely friendly and welcoming, but not in an annoying way. He works hard and it's clear he cares about his customers and the food.
The coffee is some of the best I've had in Brooklyn. I only wish they would put in a separate coffee bar so we could get it to-go!
Dishes I recommend:
- Croque Madame
-Rotisserie Chicken
-Eggs Benedict
-Any of the omelets
-side of spinach is done perfectly
*The only thing that people might find annoying about Autour du Monde is the small wait staff. If they're packed for brunch, sometimes it's hard to get the owner's attention (he is the only one working brunch). If you go in with a relaxed attitude, and sip your coffee, the experience will be enjoyable. The food is worth it. Trust me.
I hope this place stays in business for a long, long time!
I cannot compliment this place enough. I wandered in randomly with a friend when a nearby restaurant was closed, and am so lucky I did! The owner served us himself, was happy to explain the ingredients, preparation and even the sourcing choices of the dishes we ate, and most importantly, was somehow hospitable and unobtrusive at the same time. I was served one of the best, if not the best burger I have ever had. The place was a bit empty earlier in the night on a Tuesday but began to fill up later - if you're in the area it's really a good option for casual, well-priced, ethically sourced food prepared and served by a local owner.
Ate here with a big group, which gave us a chance to try a good sampling of dishes, all very tasty. It's not a bad way to do it, as the place is relatively spacious and doesn't get too crowded. The food is great -- the entrees are very flavorful and the dessert portions are bigger than they look. Good stuff all around.
My boyfriend and I had been wanting to try this place for a while, so when we found ourselves post-gym starving with no desire to cook, we stopped by. I was surprised at how large the space is - the main room has a bunch of tables which were nicely spaced and good sized bar, but there's also another dining room off the side which looked to be larger than the main room. There were only a few other diners the night that we went, so we were all seated in the main room, but it's nice to eat in a restaurant where you actually have a little space. No jostling elbows with your neighbors or overhearing other conversations that ruin your meal. [I'm looking at you, patrons at Taro sushi the other night. 6 inch voices when you're at a restaurant, people...I don't need to hear how you think living in a windowless bedroom is "slumming it."]
The place is nicely decorated - nothing crazy, not too dim, not too light. Modern, but tasteful.
There was only one waiter working that night [I'm assuming he's one of the owners as he was very french and also very professional] and I'm sure they were expecting a quieter Monday evening, but there was a table of 8 seated behind us so our service was a bit on the slow side. It was fine though, we weren't in a rush, and we got everything we needed, it just took time.
We skipped out on the appetizers [a little pricey] and ordered the Brooklyn Beer Battered Fish and Chips [I know, Fish and Chips at a French place...] and the Duck Confit. I thought the Fish and Chips were delicious - decent portion, perfectly crusted on the outside, juicy and seasoned on the inside. The hand cut fries were excellent. The Duck Confit looked good and my boyfriend confirmed it was, however, the portion was on the smaller side and it was slightly over-cooked for his liking.
Prices were a little on the steep side for the area [$17-19], but the quality of the food was very good. Wines were about $7 a glass and they were out of a few that I would have liked to try.
Overall, a nice, relaxed dining experience with good food. I hope that this restaurant does well and sees an increase in foot traffic now that they're finally paving Fulton Street [hallelujah!]. I'll definitely be back to check out brunch.
Stopped in for brunch this weekend, it was really nice - orered a veggie burger, and i gotta say it was one of the best ever! A pesto with pistachio? Wowza. On a yummy fresh brioche roll. With a perfectly dressed little mixed green salad and a pile of crispy light brown frites. I asked for a side of mayo for the ultimate french frite experience, and they lovely owner brought me a little dish of homemade herbed aioli.
And I think it was about nine bucks?!
No fifth star because I've only had one meal here so far. I look forward to updating the report!
I used to frequent this place for brunch when it was Bodega's. I probably wouldn't have thought twice about ever checking Autour du Monde out, but it's Brooklyn Restaurant Week and I wanted to try something new!
I began with the vegetable spring rolls which were excellent. They were very spicy, and the carrots were nice and crisp. The main course was lightly breaded codfish cakes w/three unique sauces and vegetables. For dessert I ordered the apple tart.
All I can say is excellent! Service was a bit slow...it took forever to receive the check, but overall they are very warm and friendly. Unfortunately this is a cash only establishment, so I had to run across the street to a bodega to use an ATM. They have now received their liquor license, so I was able to enjoy a glass of white wine w/my fish.
The brunch was below the expectations, but I would have given this place 3 stars, had my friend not felt sick after her scrambled eggs.
My egg dish (Autour du Monde Eggs Benedict) didn't make me sick, but did not make it easy for me to like this restaurant either: the eggs were, by all accounts, so far past the poached stage that they couldn't have been even called "a bit overcooked" - they were hardboiled.
The orange juice came from the carton of Tropicana.
What more is there to say?
This place was great I would totally bring a friend here!
The atmosphere is great the service is very friendly and I have never had to wait very long for a table.
Though the menu seems a little pricey one night we went they had a pre frixe menu 25 bucks bought me
An delicious garden dinner salad
One of the best lamb shanks ever!
hot esspresso
warm sweet soft bread pudding
By the time I got to the bread pudding I was so stuffed! The waiter insisted I at least try the bread pudding, I did, and didn't regret it...f--delicious!
My friend and I had dinner here last night. If I could have given the place 10 stars I surely would have without any hesitation. The decor is extremely cozy and sexy! The food extremely tasty. The price just right! Plus the owners are very friendly! Definitely suggest making a stop here either for dinner or their wonderful brunch.
We stop in here a lot, it's on our way home from work. I have to say the quality of the food here is very high, it's hard to beat in the neighborhood and the small selection of wines are each a gem. Every meal we've eaten was prepared perfectly, and presented beautifully and was delicous. We especially like talking to the owners and thier lovely little daughter (she likes the song "itsy bitsy spider"). We highly recommend this place, you can't go wrong.
I generally only use reviews, not write them, but I felt so compelled because this place was so amazing. Everything was TERRIFIC!!!! From the wine, to the appetizers, to the main courses (both duck and lamb were phenomenal), to the dessert -- we were absolutely stunned at how such a great restaurant has gone relatively unnoticed.
Everyone in the neighborhood should make this their next trip, as it is truly a gem to be recognized. This was the best food my girlfriend and I have had in many months. And this is by far better than anything we've had in Park Slope.
Food was great. Only opened last Thursday, decor still a bit sparse. Service, slow, but attentive and friendly. The Confit de Canard with candied lemon on bed of lentil was out of this world. $45.00 for two without drinks, so definitely more on the upscale end, not a bad thing considering the options available around. Definitely a welcome addition.
I went there the weekend after it opened for brunch and was disappointed but chalked it up to opening jitters. Thankfully, it was. My husband and I returned to check out the dinner last Friday and it was lovely. We started with French Onion soup and a cheese and onion tart, both of which were excellent. And for the main course, we got the codfish and potato fritters with curry sauce, and the roasted scottish salmon, which were also quite good. By that point we were stuffed but managed to finish a pear tartin. The place hasn't gotten its liquor license just yet, so we had a bottle of wine from Olivino across the street, and all in all it was a great meal.
The owner is very friendly and reminded us they would be open for brunch on New Years, so we went back for brunch today and it was a vast improvement over the first time we went. Great french toast, the salad has gotten a lot better, and the sausage is perfect.
I'm so glad to have a real local joint to depend on.
This is a godsend for the neighborhood. I've eaten dinner here twice and the food hasn't disappointed - not me nor the friends I've gone with. I didn't expect too much, but the ingredients were fresh and the preparation was sophisticated. The frisee salad and arugula salads were both dressed lightly, so that the flavor of the greens came through. The hangar steak was cooked as ordered (medium rare) and very pretty on the plate. The cornish hen was perfectly cooked, with an excellent sort of rice stuffing alongside. This kitchen definitely knows how to cook and present food. The staff is friendly (a bit nervous but that should improve) and the room's just fine.
A thirteen dollar hamburger? In Brooklyn? Jeez, go back to Manhattan.
