I fuckin' like this place... if you are tired of BS and don't want to dress up very nice to hang out PLUS spend a few hundreds.... bring a one hundred dollars bill and drink until u can't take it anymore.
The bouncer situation is true... he makes people wait.... but once u are in... u can have fun....
They play all kinda music..... even country on Wednesdays..... haha not for me though.
The bartenders are hot BTW .... :)
The best place to go when you dont' want to deal with anything but loud music & good drinks. Automatic Slims is small & as a homey as a bar with scantily-clad girls in plaid can be.
Become a regular & the bouncer lets you in with a hug. Come after 11:30 pm & expect to wait as if it were a silly SoBe club but don't feel like a loser; you're just too late for the party that's been going on for an hour. Stick around & wait for the fire marshall to leave & you'll enjoy every second you're there.
Entertainment can be found on the bar or at the stripper pole in the back.

This bar was the highlight of my trip to Sobe with my girlfriend's last summer!. We asked around to a few locals where we could go for a fun get crazy time without the pretentiousness of standing in line and paying an arm and leg while listening to house music type club. This place is so coyote ugly- girl bartenders pouring shots down your throat. The ultimate attraction is the stripper pole that seems to be a major hit ( atleast with my friends:). The crowd is a great mix of Miami glamour and those tourists who could easily hang in the uptight clubs if they wanted to but prefer the this little jem instead. Cheap drinks, no cover, constant free shots flowing, fabulous mix of music. I can't wait to go back to sobe! This will be my first stop!
I just moved to Miami from LA a few months ago and I hit this bar last weekend.
Great music if you like rock - Journey, ACDC, Duran Duran, other 80s stuff. The bartenders are by far the hottest girls there but there is plenty of other talent. The stripper pole in the back of the bar is a nice touch. All around I had a great time because its an unpretentious bar in a usually pretentious area.

Supposed to be like a dive bar, but not really. I guess this is south beach, after all. Bartending is "Coyote Ugly"-esque. Pole in the back of the bar. You get the idea. Small place, mixed music, very fun overall.

I freaking hate this place...

Holy $hit!
There's a lot of hot girls at this trailer trash disguised bar!
You walk in wearing whatever, you don't pay a dime, and you're in the heart of SoBe. You're mixed in with European tourist, hot locals (who I'm convinced must all work at a local strip club), and normal people like you and me. It's truly a bar in every sense of the word, except that it blasts mists all over the place once in awhile which is great for on-lookers.
There's really no frills here people, a lot of hot people in a very real setting. Highly recommended, except for the pricing, but hey, that's the price of admission!

A no-cover, true bar in the heart of Miami Vice; as close to the E. Village for those Miamians who dream of NYC or the UK. The music is "The Smiths", "Guns", "AC/DC" and the like. Come on a Wednesday, when the bar gets lively, or on the weekend for affordable drinks prior to heading out for the club. No fringe, no bastard bouncers, no infestation. Since it's a bar and nothing else, there's little to say, other than the word that describes it most: Automatic...relief!

I live on SoBe and I go here. Nuff said.
Make sure to go relatively early (before 11) b/c it's a small space and at a certain point they won't make room for you unless you buy a bottle.

This place rocks!
One long 'booth' lined one of the walls, and the multiple tables in front of it had extra chairs for extra people. If that wasn't enough, they ALSO had an extra ledge on top of the booth for even MORE bodies. ORGY FREE-FOR-ALL! BRING LOTS OF PEOPLE! YOU'LL ALL FIT!
The bartender was nice; the shot girls were AWESOME. Who doesn't want a raspberry Skyy shot poured into their mouth for FREE? I dare you to find someone (and if you find someone that's allergic to raspberries OR vodka, that SO doesn't count).
The music totally rocked the house. I remember it being an interesting variety (current rock, old school rock, some hip hop, a dance remix or two...), but all in all, I found myself bopping my head or singing along to just about EVERY DANG SONG I heard (or at least, that I can remember).
While drunkenly waiting in line for the bathroom with a friend, we received texts that the other half of our group had already left because someone was throwing up outside. FUDGE! It was a sad day when I had to leave, but golly gee whiz, I had a blast! I'm def. hitting this place up when I return to Sobe!

Am I the only one that sees this place for what it is? I'm no fan of the manufactured pretentiousness of the "South Beach Scene," either, but Automatic Slim's is just as manufactured, only in the other direction.
Think Coyote Ugly in New York - a meticulous recreation of what some slick marketing guy thought a "crazy, locals' dive bar" would look like.
The irony is that laid-back locals looking for a cool, eclectic soundtrack and a casual but still hip bar don't go here at all. They go to Poplife (the Saturday night party) at the District, just across the causeway.
Automatic Slim's is the Nickelback of rock/dive bars - just as image-conscious, pretentious, and poseur as K-Fed, but in a different genre.
This post (http://www.thephatphre...) perfectly encapsulates the average clientele.

Having spent a solid portion of 2006 in South Beach for work; I can say without a doubt - Automatic Slim's blows the panties off of any other "SoBe" bar. (A metaphor to be taken seriously if there ever was one.)
Their slogan: "Where the beautiful people come to get ugly."
If one were to throw the "Beauty Bar", "Casbah", "Whistle Stop", and "Deja Vu" into a blender, hit puree, and mix with a shot of Jack...you would have a sensory taste equivalent to Slim's. (...and one hell of a dirty blender.)
Probably the only "locals" bar/lounge on the island, the vibe is always "clean carefree" (the yang to say, On Broadways "retarded irresponsible.") Easily one of the coolest factors has to be the rear lounge, which is actually an old Jetstream trailer updated with comfy booths and candles.
Packed Thursday through Saturday, spotting Christina Aguilera, the Hulkster, Screech, or any number of models "dressed down" in a hipster, style is not uncommon.
Most of the SoBe scene is a somewhat hard pill to swallow (read - not ONE indie, dive, or live music club.) In a place where Tommy Lee's bar plays Chamillionaire, and reggaeton rattles windows; Automatic Slim's is a breath of fresh air.
By fresh air I mean the smell of Jagermeister and beer, accompanied by the sound of Axl, Slash, and Nikki.

After spending some time at alot of pretentious South Beahc Clubs - Automatic Slims was exactly what we needed.
no cover - no pretentiousness - just so much fun.
Fun music, laid back crowd and atmosphere.
probably my favorite bar in Miami.
Had a drink here during WMC 2007. Nothing wrong with it, or the bartender who poured it. Decor felt a little contrived, like the Disneyland of dive bars, but nevertheless it felt laid back and I could see myself having some fun there for a bit. But on this particular night, some friends of mine were supposed to have been DJing, and I didn't see them, even though it was more than an hour after they were supposed to have started. Turns out they'd come, the place didn't have the turntables as promised (just CDJs), so they left. So did we. Boo.
I love this place!!! The attitude level is way lower than at neighboring clubs... perfect for those days when you don't feel like smiling for 30 minutes to the bouncer, sucking in your belly, and trying to look airheaddy enough to get into the club fast. Perfect for when you just feel like going out and HAVING FUN instead of sipping overpriced martini's while bouncing to ticky-ticky repetitive house music.
They have a great mix of 80s, rock and alternative!!
Really fun place- after trying to decide between a bunch of trendy clubs, we decided to fuck them all and go here. Great choice- fantastic music, cool bartenders, and an overall chill vibe. I love the trailer VIP room. Definitely go here if you're sick of the South Beach "scene."

Absolutely a great place to truly hang out, have fun and listen to great music. My only problem is that I went a Friday after 11.30pm so I had to bribe the doorman with a 20. But well, I know I should have been there earlier.
This is a true bar, where you only get music and liquor, and at a good price. A beer runs fro $6 and a Jack Sour for $9 decent for the scene.
One of the best bar experiences I have ever had. A little bit Coyote Ugly and a little bit of your local bar, Automatic Slims was definitely a fun spot to go with my friends while vacationing in Miami. I was there in August, in the worst heat/humidity there could ever be, and Automatic Slims made me forget all about it. With their mix of rock, pop, alternative, hip-hop, and everything else, it was a lot of fun. There's enough space to dance, and even sit (if you get there early enough), and the bartenders have been known to give away a free shot or two. Wish the one in NYC was just as good.
I went here pretty early on Saturday night (10-ish) and it wasn't busy yet. About an hour later there was a good size crowd of chill people. The DJ was AWESOME, playing the most random but well-mixed music I've heard in a long time.
Booth seating is available with a ledge up top for extra bodies, which was perfect for larger groups. We were lucky enough to get a table, which came with a really really hot waitress. This place has a bunch of them.
Best part: Waitresses & bartenders pouring Skyy into your mouth from on top of the bar. (Please tip, CUZ IT WAS FREE!!)
Great (and potentially cheap) weekend night for South Beach!
Oh, and an update: Kristina B's review sounds eerily familiar. I guess I am forgetting some, since I was the one puking outside. I said the free shots were great!

Completely fun atmosphere! It reminded me of Tequila Roadhouse in Chicago, but up 10 notches. Our waitress was a complete sweetheart, too. Not only was she serving up drinks at light speed, but she was kind enough to snap a pix of the group of us! The drinks are reasonably priced and pretty strong, too. Guys will def be treated to some eye candy 'cuz the bartenders get up and dance on the bar. My only complaint is that the line to the bathroom was HUGE because only one person can use it at a time.
LOVED this place - we were not in the mood for the glitzy glam clubs and we just wanted to slam drinks and listen to Bon Jovi (oh yes they did play it) - A lot of girls were working the pole in the back which was hilarious. This place is really fun!!!
This is what I call a meat market. Probably gonna see the selection tomorrow too. Oh, and see the waitresses on the table... uuuhh!
The best bar I've ventured into on South Beach! Thursday night is ladies night, so all drinks are free! This was our last stop of the night so we were sufficiently liquored up and just looking for some fun. I guess because it wasn't extremely busy they had a waitress going around to every chick in the place and taking drink orders! Then, after you forgot that you even ordered something on the fly, there she was with a cold bev. It's all probably a scam to get the girls hammered so they'll grind each other on the pole at the end of the room... but it works!! I've seen some craziness go on on that thing, not that I've ever taken part... : ) The last time I was at Slim's in SB, it was a Friday night and there was a huge line out front but we got in bc it was my BFF's B-Day. Girls galore on the pole doing outrageous things, the barmaids standing on the bar pouring liquor down the throats of willing patrons, and the greatest selection of rock music you could hope to jam out to. Fun, fun times!
They also have a Slim's in Downtown FTL that rocks even more! It's huge... the downstairs has a huge wrap-around bar and two VIP sections, with one surrounding the pole on the wall. The upstairs has pool tables and another bar. They have flat screens that play surf & skate videos, the same soundtrack of rock classics, and more scantily-clad chicks dancing on the bars and offering liquor pours... for a price this time! But they just opened a new Tiki Bar in the back with surfboards lining the walls and booths that aren't VIP. The same sweet deal for ladies night, although only free Coors Light, but that's fine by me. A perfect bar for a not-so-SoFla crowd but still lots of skin and good times!
