Review from Susan H.
San Diego, CA
Automasters is a one-man shop that we found when looking for an independent Saab mechanic. Mark the owner also does a lot of BMW service. We have had no complaints with the work so far and have found Mark to be fair and honest. He also will be upfront about how long things might take when he is overloaded, but once he has your car and any needed parts he completes the job quickly.
As noted by the previous poster Mark is also quite good at troubleshooting and clearly has an interest in figuring out the difficult problems. -

If you own a Saab and are getting work done that is not under warranty, then Mark at Automasters is your go-to guy. I found him on a San Diego Saab owners website. I was buying my car used and took it to Mark to check it out before I sealed the deal. He got his experience working for Saab dealers and owns one or two of them.
Mark is the CSI of mechanics! He looked at the car and told me that the door and rear panel had been repainted and had a couple of tiny air bubbles (if I didn't have it repainted correctly, it was very likely that the paint would eventually chip off). He knew that the car's 30K miles had been mostly city driving, causing more wear and tear. He could also tell that the 30K free service under warranty had not been done on the car. When I went back to the seller, I was able to negotiate that he repaint it for me and fix a couple of things.
I have gone to Mark for new brakes and spark plugs as well. You can tell he's really passionate about what he does and will go into every last detail about how everything works with you if you like. He's honest and his rates are very reasonable. He also has referred me to a couple of other good places for auto service (tires, etc.)
The only downside is that he's a one-man shop and needs lead time to fix the car, get the parts, etc. You have to drop it off there for several hours or a day or so; he doesn't work while you wait. Also, I'm in Hillcrest, so Mira Mesa is not very convenient for me... However, so far it has been worth the trek!
