Holy Jesus. I've been away from Brooklyn for nearly one year and in that short time not only did a ton of hipster babies come out of their hipster mommas, but the Taco Cart was born, too.
On a recent homecoming trip, my friends and I drank ourselves stumbly and munched on bean tacos at the N. 6th Taco Cart -- delish? Yes. Forgetful? Yes, but that's my fault.
So a few days later, after a jog around the old 'hood and a few tears on the Williamsburg bridge, I ran my ass over to the Taco Cart on South Bedford Ave. Honestly, it's hard to walk on Bedford these days, because either there is no room or there are annoying baby strollers, but I forced my tail in and got a couple tacos for sampling: one chicken, one beef. I like to treat my tummy as ad agencies treat their test audiences: variety is key. The tortillas are fresh and real. The chicken isn't overspiced (although the beef was mediocre) and the onions, cilantro and other juicy little yums made both tacos very eatable. Plus, it's cheap!
It was pure joy and elation I felt as I walked back to my temporary abode off Havemeyer... legs settling down from the stuffy pressure, heart pumping in Brooklyn, tummy pleased and sentimental for my old life.
New new location: Bedford Ave, north of Metropolitan. (Near The Bagel Store.)
This taco cart kicks the hipster N6th taco truck's ass!
$2.50 for steamy fresh tortillas stuffed to overflowing with your choice of meat & toppings. I highly recommend the succulent red chorizo, with onions and cilantro & topped with their homemade red & green salsas.
I can't stop thinking about them, and wishing this little taco cart was in my new neighborhood. I think they gave me taco fever.
Best tacos in williamsburg. better than endless summer, hands down.
tacos - $2.50
quesadilla - $4
burrito - $5
nb: they're now at n 8th and bedford
Mexican food love has come to Williamsburg. Right on the cusp of McCarren park is a steady supply of dope tacos and quesadillas. The operation is pretty unorganized, so much so that the first time we went I had to go back to pay because the confusion made us forget. But nobody with a soul would swindle these guys. They are the real deal. Pick up some tacos, some aqua frescas and chill in the park. I love my neighborhood.
This place has stepped it up 200% since my first visit -- and it's an exciting development in the barren landscape that is Mexican food in New York City! After attempting to eat an unbelievably bad cup of fro yo from /eks/, I fled to this wonderful taco truck and found that now, in addition to their tacos, they are also offering made-to-order quesadillas featuring fresh, hand-made tortillas that are pressed and grilled just for you right on the spot. I had Oaxaca cheese, sour cream, onions and smoky chipotle sauce on my lovingly made quesadilla, and as I walked through McCarren Park chowing it down I experienced 5 minutes of bliss. The fresh, made-just-for-me tortilla was delectably crispy, the cheese was fresh, and the chipotle sauce was mmm mmm perfect. I don't know if this little cart is going to tough it out on N 12th and Bedford once the weather gets cold, so I'm going to just get something every weekend this summer and savor the authentic flavors I've missed in NYC for so long!
