One of my favorite places to visit when I'm in Tahoe. They're chicken fried chicken is killer as well as their trout! Salads are huge, but so good. My favorite is "Doug's Favorite" salad with either ranch or their homemade honey-mustard dressing.  The chicken tenders are my boyfriend's favorite as well as the Big Guy porkchops. Delicious!
Yes, Austin's has great homemade comfort/mountain food. I love it and would recommend it to anyone who comes and visits Incline.
Also, try the 10 oz martinis! (but be careful they will get you tipsy)
Hope you enjoy this place as much as we do.

A colleague and I stopped in for a late lunch.  At first we weren't sure what to think as we were the only two there.  The friendly waitress made some helpful recommendations and we were happy with our choices.  The Austin's Style Chicken Breast Sandwhich was great and the Turkey Melt was good too.  The Loaded Fries also hit the spot.

I would've liked to have seen a few more micro-brews on the menu, but other than that I'd go back.

We love this place!!

We have been eating at the restaurant for about five years, and it is consistently very good!  The food is basic and delicious!  Meals include meatloaf, chicken friend chicken or chicken fried steak, or the big Austin burger!  All is very good.  There is a good choice of beverages for adults too!

The restaurant is warm inside and cozy.  Very comfortable!!

When we come to Incline Village, our first night is always spent at Austin's.  They set the mood for the remainder of our trip.

The salad selection at Austin's is fantastic. The traditional cobb salad is my favorite. The staff is very friendly as well. Outside seating is great. On a less healthy side note, I would definitely recommend the loaded fries. :)

I went there because I read past reviews of the Fried Chicken.  So expecting typical fried chicken, I was surprised to read that the fried chicken was not on the bone... aka, boneless.  Reluctantly, I still ordered it..

The "Fried Chicken" is essentially, Chicken Fried Steak, served on top of a flavorful white gravy, served with cornbread and honey, and two sides.  I choose the Mac-n-Cheese, 'cuz really, you can't go wrong with Mac-n-cheese and the Buttermilk French Fry with Jalapeño dip.

Wasn't a huge fan of the French fries, as the outside was cooked nicely, but the inside, the fries were really dry and dry.  Even with the dip, it just wasn't pleasant.

The Mac-n-cheese was tasty, but nothing to write about.

Overall, the fried chicken (aka Chicken Fried steak) was cooked perfectly, tender and moist....

Moist (fyi, that is my favorite word.  Can you use it in a sentence?  She was moist with anticipation.)

Worth the visit if you're in the area and you want a nice home-cooked style meal.

So here is the danger of Yelp... there are often idiotic and unfair people who are given this immense power to write harmful reviews in a large public forum of which can have a negative effect on free enterprise. Not that I am against this kind of forum but it seems to me that some of these people who don't even seem qualified to have an eighth grade diploma write these unjustified reviews and tank a proprietors reputation.

I'm reading some of the reviews of one of my favorite little hangs in Tahoe (see below)... and find that David N. writes, "We had the meat loaf which was OK for taste but luke warm at best". I get it, but its only meatloaf dude, send it back - it's not like they have to cook your meal all over again... It is very lame of you to tank this establishment's rating overwhelmingly based on this gripe and a margarita that didn't live up to your standard. I've had the margarita here and it is a wonderful charm to toss one back while enjoying the forested patio on a warm summer's afternoon.

And this review is a real gem from Pachi C. who writes, "We spent the weekend in Incline village and got a few dishes takeout to feed our gang of 8. There was a snow storm that weekend. By the time we got home the food was cold." - that is as much as I need to read from this idiot. Snowstorm - by the time you got home your food was cold??? Please, you are stupid.

As far as my experience is concerned I have found the service, food and atmosphere at Austin's to wholeheartedly live up to its claims. I can also say for certain that if you ever did have a problem with the restaurant they would certainly provide you with friendly attention. From what I can determine this place is a family friendly local's joint that welcomes visitors with huge portions and friendly service as well as being ecology conscious and clean.

Back to my opening statements, I'm not here to slam reviewers individually but the absurdity of some of these people has grown to new heights. If perhaps you are the out of town metropolite who tanks a hard working local joint based on one experience and don't plan to return consider staying off yelp. I live and work in San Francisco where there is medeley of establishments, you are writing about Tahoe you fool.

Food: Decent, not spectacular
Service: We did takeout
Price: Reasonable

We spent the weekend in Incline village and got a few dishes takeout to feed our gang of 8. There was a snow storm that weekend. By the time we got home the food was cold. Most flavors were compromised.

1. Meatloaf with mushrooms: nothing special. I'd give it a C.
2. Pork chops with apple sauce: after re-heating, it wasn't bad. I was unsure if the applesauce was homemade or not. B-.
3. Chicken fried chicken: the 2nd  best dish of the night. Good gravy. The buttermilk fries were also tasty. B+
4. Fried chicken salad: large portions, yes, and good honey mustard dressing. The fixings, however, ie: iceberg, carrots, were just standard. B.
5. Cornbread: Delish! Light, fluffy, lots of corn flavor. A.

Perhaps the experience and taste would've been better if we dined in...

I LOVE THIS PLACE. Everytime we go to tahoe we eat here for dinner or lunch. They've got something California has yet to catch on. Buttermilk Fries with Jalapeno Dipping Sauce! I come here purely just for the fries. But i also like their meatloaf, steak, and pasta. Every entree also comes with a big piece of cornbread with butter and honey.

Meh.  Not so sure why my friends like this place so much.  They arrived here around 7 pm in Incline after a hot, trafficky drive from Watsonville.  They were starving and so was I, so they wanted to come back here.  Mark and I had the burgers while Beth ordered the meatloaf.  The restaurant was fairly busy, but why oh why did it take more than 45 minutes to get our food?  We didn't order anything complicated, yet the service was excruciatingly slow.  Even after we were told our order was coming right up, it was another 20 minutes of waiting.  As for the food itself, it was okay, nothing to write home about.  I'd rather drive to Kings Beach and hit the Char Pit.  Better food, less expensive.

There are very few restaurants around Tahoe that compare to Austin's quality and price. They have a great menu and the food is consistently good. Best thing on the menu is by far the Chicken Fried Chicken ( a dish like chicken fried steak only, it's chicken breast) and the French Fries with the Jalapeno dipping sauce is killer! Lately though, the service has been only adequate compared to what it used to be...maybe the wait staff was burnt out from summer? Their wine list is also awesome! This is a restaurant that knows how to do country-homestyle cooking right!

We went here because it was recommended as "good comfort food." We had the meat loaf which was OK for taste but luke warm at best. Other members of our party also found the food preparation only so so. Seemed like the chef must not have been paying attention. Portions were huge - so  if you go, consider sharing
The atmosphere was quaint and there were lots of people there but I don't know why.
The special margarita was nothing special.

We visited Austin's on a Thursday for lunch and of course we had to try the well known chicken fried steak.  So my husband had that and I had the chicken fried chicken.  Mine was definitely better.  The gravy was good and with the corn bread, I was so full I couldn't finish my delicious fries.  I didn't care for the sauce they came with, but they were tasty enough plain.  The service was a bit slow and unresponsive and they seemed to have enough people working for how busy it was, so not sure what was going on there.  We'd probably go again for lunch.

I'm with Ben R.  We had great service at Austin's but their food is just average tasting and seems a little on the pricey side for the atmosphere.

My blackened trout was good...a little salty.   It came with two sides - a very dainty serving of mashed potatoes and a giant, warm piece of sweet cake-like cornbread.  It was priced at $16 ($16.95?).  Hubby ordered a spinach salad and we shared, as we often do.  The salad came in a giant plastic bowl but the actual food inside the bowl would have fit in a much smaller bowl.  It was OK (I can make better at home) and over-dressed.

Homey, stick to the ribs country food which brings a smile to the stomach, even as it destroys it due to its vast proportions.  Gentlepeople, the salads here are measured by the bucketload.  To say they are large makes light of the plight of the merely enormous.  No it's not a pansy bit of shrubbery for the hippy dippy vegan in all of us.  It satiates four starved people.

I hate bread service in restaurants (even if my gf loves it, carb whore that she is...more on this some other time), but when hot buttered cornbread comes a'rollin' out the kitchen, I become a voracious man-beast ready to shove things down my gullet.  Entrees, a mix of the deliciously homey--meatloaf with mushrooms & onions & gravy, chicken fried chicken--are surprisingly reasonably sized (especially after the greenery attack of the salad course).  Best chicken fried chicken I've had in a couple years, by the way, nicely spiced, crisp and every so moist.  Beware the slice of pie at the end, as it's approximately 1-2 pounds in weight, possibly more with the snowman sized scoop of ice cream atop.

Bring this to sf, raised the prices by 2x, and throw in some snarky waiters and you have town hall.  except the bread here was so much better it wasn't even funny.

Austin's gives "down home" a run for it's money ... whatever that means.  What I mean is ... IT'S DAMN GOOD DOWN HOME COOKIN!!!  Locals love this little gem!!!  I used to be a local so, I can talk.  The salads are deliciously huge and the fries are to die for!!!  Say hi to Ashley and John for me when you visit Austin's!

Excellent food, great prices, and very friendly staff.  What more could you want in this mountain paradise?

The salads are great and VERY large (as pointed out in the earlier review).  The first time I came here years ago, all four of us ordered salads and it was really comical.  We had enough food to feed a few very large families.  Not kidding.

The chicken fried chicken is great (even as it shaves a few days off your lifespan).  When there's two of us, we'll usually order a meat dish (like the chicken fried chicken) and a salad and share them both.  Makes us at least think that we're being healthy.

The service is always very friendly.  They get busy and don't have a big staff, so be patient and enjoy your drink and the homey atmosphere.

In the Summer, ask for a table outside (or call ahead to reserve one).  And save room for their great pies.

Yummm.  Started outed out w/ Buttermilk Fries with Jalepeno Dipping Sauce.  Must douse in hot sauce.  Then, on to Fried Chicken Salad.  Proportions here were a little dillutional but better big then leaving something to be desired.  Terrific service.  Great value for the money.

Austin's is tucked away in a nice little spot near the Hyatt at Incline Village. We sat outside and the weather was phenomenal. The food on the other hand wasn't GREAT, but it wasn't horrible (not even a hint close to Town Hall as mentioned in an earlier review). There were tons of flies, I can't blame them for that, and a huge dog that looked like a Black Bear lumbering through the dining space outside. Thankfully, I like dogs. It has the small town charm of Lake Tahoe, a kind of "we could really give a shit about being fancy" attitude, which i love. Everything was tasty, but the prices seemed a bit high for the quality of food that was presented. We got some weird thick, jelly like "balsamic vinaigrette" dressing which we were too scared to touch. Which I found weird because salads are their "thing". They did actually take it off the bill, so that was great. Service was excellent as well. Overall a great little spot for the very casual lunch or dinner crowd. No breakfast though. I would come back just to see that 500 pound dog crawling around. It was pretty intense.
