Review from Mischa T.
Boston, MA
I'd like to thank Carol for her wonderful review that convinced me to schedule an appointment with Dr. Wertheimer.
I have been through numerous doctors in the Boston area and Dr Wertheimer is the FIRST one who has listened to me and my concerns. He looked over blood work and ultrasound results with me and explained my condition thoroughly. Drew figures of what is happening with my hormones compared to normal ladies. He even brought out a 3D model of the reproductive system to further explain what was going on in my body.
My first appointment he spent 2 hrs WITH ME. I learned more from him in those hours than all the years I have wasted going to other doctors. Another thing that really impressed me is that he is having the pharmacy compound a dose of hormones that is appropriate for me. His assistant is wonderful too- very patient and a great listener. I could go on and on. I regret not having found Wertheimer sooner. He genuinely cares. One more thing- he is also very knowledgeable about natural hormones and supplements for those with synthetic hormone concerns or hypersensitivities. -
Review from Carol Ginsberg B.
Middlesex, MA
Anything less than 5 stars and I wouldn't be seeing a male GYN. The fact that he's male and I'm seeing him is testimony to his extraordinary abilities.
The evidence of Wertheimer being extraordinary is massive. He invited my friend, a menopause educator, to come to his office to talk to him about beneficial herbal treatments. He invited me to make an end-of-day appt so there'd be time for him to hear about the novel bio-identical hormone gels originating in Europe that I'd been using. He came up with the most creative solution to a seemingly intractable problem that 3 other GYN not only couldn't solve, but actually exacerbated.
He LISTENS and then THINKS, out of the box and going back to first principles. Unlike most doctors, he doesn't have a canned set of answers and then determine which question you are. (A different doctor once actually said to me: "When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.")
Dr Wertheimer is kind and compassionate, and brainy in just the right way. How many gynecologists do you see who still use a microscope at all and especially at the time of your visit as part of his analysis and diagnosis? This is the doctor you want to see if you have any non-routine problem. DrW is a problem solver. He will not dismiss your symptoms because they don't fit into a pre-determined set of solutions. He will stick with you until you both find some answers. I will send my daughter to him at the first hint of a non-routine situation.
I have never felt rushed, been talked down-to or trivialized. If the doctor doesn't know the answer at first, he'll tell you and then, between appointments, research the question. Probably instead of playing golf. Never trust a doctor who pretends to know all the answers.
Shelia is Dr. Wertheimer's assistant. She is competent and professional. It's a pleasure and reassuring to deal with a well-run office. You might find Shelia reserved at first but, like DrW himself, she is truly warm and kind. -
Review from Shabnam H.
Middleton, MA
I have been a patient of Dr Wertheimer since 1990. I have lived in other states and always came back to him for my once a year check up. All my friends and family go to him. Other than the fact he is simply brilliant and knowledgeable he is still a very kind and caring doctor and actually listens to me and never brushes off any concerns I've had no matter how silly. He has had the same assistant (Sheila) ever since I can remember. He is by far my favorite physician ever. Also his practice is exceptionally (and has been for while now) technology friendly. You can make your own appointments online; you can e-mail him with any questions or concerns. He is simply splendid
Specialties
I am a gynecologist and obgyn who no longer delivers babies. My motto is "Healthcare for women . . . and a chance to talk." I like to spend time with patients and can often make a diagnosis by just listening. I have special experience in helping patients with abnormal Pap smears and can treat you in the office. I counsel women on cycle changes, menopause, and bio-identical hormones. Please check in for any gyn problem or for your examination.
