This is a fantastic Veterinary practice.  I trust very few people with my animals and this clinic is one of the few.  I took in my freakishly small chihuahua for an exam knowing she would need a dentistry but wanted to get a feel for the clinic and the people that work there first.  I was truly impressed.

The first visit went well and I was able to talk freely with Dr. Erin and the technicians.  They introduced themselves, were friendly, professional yet casual, and very knowledgeable and honest.  This clinic has a vast selection of pharmaceuticals and up to date equipment.  I respect that they require preanesthetic blood work and extensive monitoring throughout sedation.

After that visit, I received a very reasonable quote for the dental so I went forth with the procedure a few days later.  My dog is a handful because of her size but the doctors and techs did beautifully.  They stuck with their original quote even though a dental price can change dramatically depending on what's actually going on inside the mouth.  I got lucky that she didn't have many extractions.  The procedure went smoothly and the Dr. called me to update me when my dog was waking up.  The day after, I received a friendly check up call and I reported only good news.

I used to be a vet technician so I'm prone to judge more harshly than people that haven't worked in the field but this place has a great staff, an excellent environment, and affordable pricing for the best animal care I've witnessed in Austin.  I will return with my other two monsters.

I'm happy to say that I've been back several times now, and am just as satisfied as I was on my first visit.

Unfortunately, the reason for return was another illness with our cat (he's had several in his short lifetime), and it wasn't cheap.  However, I feel confident about the care he received.  Dr. Jordan took the time to explain what procedures he needed, why we should do them, and what we would expect to find out about our cat's condition.  I sincerely appreciate his thoroughness.  The bad news is that our kitty has a chronic condition.  The good news, is that we finally know why our poor kitty has periodic illnesses and Dr. Jordan is helping us figure out how to manage the illness so that we can prevent expensive visits to the vet.

I've seen some reviews that say this vet is more expensive.  I have to be honest, I'm not certain on price comparisons.  But I do know that I was spending a lot of money at my previous vet for unnecessary procedures, poor service and my cat kept getting sick.  Now, thanks to Austin Urban, we're learning how to manage his illness, prevent flare ups, and, overall, paying less for better service.

Austin Urban Vet Center will definitely be our new vet in town. Though we tried another one up north last year that was admittedly less expensive, I wasn't entirely sold on that experience.

But here, I felt very comfortable we were in good hands AND they took us on the same day I called. Our poor boy seemed to have some kind of eye infection. They were very cool about squeezing me in and taking care of the baby.

The location is super convenient to where we live and I was pleasantly surprised to find they had a parking lot. Downtown? SCORE.

The staff was superb. The office clean and comfortable. Since the vet is Brutus' least favorite place to be (and he certainly lets it be known) it's typically a chore to take him. But I was again pleasantly surprised... despite the barking at any male staff member and the his horrific whimpers (you'd think he's being beaten), everyone there was super patient with him and even took him into another room to help with his anxiety.

We all walked away happier and healthier. Just a week later, his eye infection is gone!

I got a call from the vet yesterday checking up on his status, which was totally unexpected but solidified my confidence in this being our new vet.

I'm also excited that they also offer boarding services, which we'll try the next time we're out of town.

All in all, we will definitely be back. Our spoiled pup deserves only the best and we do believe we've found that.

The experience: got a same-day appointment, snazzy and clean facility, very short wait. The floors were still a little damp, and it seemed like they cleaned the floors between each pet's visit to the rooms. The front lobby seemed pretty upscale, including a pet boutique and groomer.

Dr. Jordan Kautz was knowledgeable, and talked a lot about avoiding too many expensive tests on the first visit. He was very detailed in explaining his thought process of what was wrong with my kitty. Her visit to another vet for diarrhea had given no improvement, so he gave me some possible diagnoses, and said we could work through treatment options instead of going straight for $300 bloodwork. Kitty also had a red, swollen eye, and he did a quick test and prescription for that. He also gave his iPhone email address and said I could email with any questions or to let him know how my kitty was doing post-treatment. But, one star off for his reply to my note being "make another appt so we can talk in person."

If I was made of money I would be back here in a heartbeat. Now it's probably time for expensive tests, since what Dr. Jordan prescribed did not work out either. They do not do payment plans, so financially I have to try another well-yelped and more reasonably priced vet first.

Breakdown of the bill, in case you are price-shopping:
    Exam, $49
    Ocular fluorescein stain, $36
    Metronidazole, $45.50
    Neo/poly/dex ointment, $35.50
    =$166.00

This review is difficult to write, but I do hope it will prove helpful.

About a month and a half ago, my 8 year old boy cat stopped eating. He lost weight very quickly and started going into hiding spaces. Based on the yelp reviews I took him to Austin Urban Vet, where Dr. Homburg started with some blood tests.

I won't go into the personal details about the next month and a half; we did some more tests, we tried a few medications, and nothing worked. During this time, though, Dr. Homburg made herself available to me via phone and e-mail, answered all of my questions with patience, and made sure we knew a realistic idea of our cat's prognosis.

Dr. Homburg finally called me to tell me that we'd come to the end of our options and we needed to make some decisions about end of life care. She made time to sit down with us and explain the decisions we'd need to make. She gave it to us very straight, and allowed us the room in that conversation to cry and philosophize, even though it was a busy Saturday. And then when we finally came to terms with the fact that we needed to ease our cat's passing sooner rather than later, she took time out of her "off hours" schedule to communicate with us and help us schedule an at-home visit in order to put our boy to sleep. When she arrived she was calm and kind and professional, and made us feel that we were in good hands.

In terms of other concerns one might have with a review: I've been to a lot of different vets, and Austin Urban Vet Center seems to hit the median in terms of pricing, at least for my experience. They are much more reasonable than you'd fear given their posh location, and the quality of care is in my opinion worth it. The atmosphere is great, it's easy to schedule an appointment, and the other staff, the techs and receptionists, are super. Yes, of course I wish they had the magic pill that would cure my kitty; but in a world where we have to bear loss and make the best decisions we can for our pets, I absolutely recommend this clinic's respectful and compassionate care.

I have been searching Austin for a good vet ever since moving here 5 years ago.  I came across Austin Urban Vet Center after reading the great reviews on yelp.

Dr. Homburg was the most caring and understanding vet I have ever met.  She was compassionate about my cat's condition, gave me detailed info on expenses, and did not pressure me into any unnecessary treatments and gave me the straight facts.  She kept my kitty comfortable on his last days.

I then had the chance to meet Dr. Kautz when I had to get into the vet right away and Dr. Homburg was not available.  Again, caring, compassionate, knowledgeable, and no push for big expensive procedures.  Long story short, Dr. Kautz shaved my cat's life and I thank him so much for that.  She had acute renal failure and is now healthy and thriving.

I highly recommend this place to anyone in the Austin area.  The facility is clean, the receptionist is friendly and knowledgeable, and the vets are outstanding.  5 stars all the way!

When we moved to Austin from San Diego, one of our concerns was finding a good vet for our two English Bulldogs.  Bullies are high-maintenance dogs, but for that reason, some vets try to squeeze every last dime out of us by guilting us into paying for every expensive treatment available (Crown Veterinary Hospital of Coronado, I'm looking at you!).  My experience at Austin Urban Veterinary Center has been great, and in Dr. Jordan Kautz, we've found a vet that we can trust.

Dr. Jordan is definitely an animal person, and it is extremely apparent that he loves dogs and doesn't see them as walking ATM machines, unlike some other vets we have visited in the past.  He is very nice and patient, and is willing to discuss options fully when determining a treatment plan for our pups.

Beyond the great doctor and friendly staff, the facilities at AUVC are top notch.  The place looks very chic, and our bullies love the nice cold floors.  Our dogs are usually very nervous when they go to a vet's office, but both of them were relaxed and happy here.

Although no one ever wants to have to take their pet to the vet, [expletive] happens. When it does, take your pet here.

Leaving your pet overnight in a pet hospital for the first time is like sending your first born off to college...but worse. The thing is, when I dropped my cat off for surgery and walked out to my car I thought I would be a wreck - but I wasn't. I was reasonably fine. It was then that I realized that I totally trusted these people with my pet's safety...and hot damn, that felt good.

Dr Erin is seriously awesome at what she does and the staff there rocks - really - all of them. Becky always had a smile on her face, Meredith was awesome with Vince, and Sarah was always helpful on the phone. Wow. I can't believe I remembered that many names, lol. Anyway. They treat your pet like they're their pet, not just a client that needs a spay and a flea-bath.

I will never take my fur-babies anywhere else unless the situation calls for it. It's just that simple.

    Yes. I said fur-babies.

For as much as my cat, Monte, is distressed about traveling to the vet, I must say that I have had a pleasant and worthwhile experience each and every time. The facilities are clean and the receptionist is always friendly and upbeat. I have never waited more than a few minutes in the waiting room to be seen (which is wonderful since Monte does not like being trapped in a carrier or around any other animals that might be in the waiting area).

Dr. Homburg and her staff are, in a word, wonderful. They are relaxed and gentle when handling my pet, eager to answer any questions I had, and always professional. I would recommend Dr. Homburg and her staff to anyone looking for a new Vet and I feel very lucky to have Monte in such great hands.

So if you're looking for a Vet, don't hesitate to get an appointment and see for yourself. I don't doubt you and your pet will be quite pleased.

Having had animals for practically forever...I have had a lot of vets in different states/countries.

Hands down this is the most caring, practical, compassionate, understanding, and skilled Vet I have seen.

She attended to Gizmo's obnoxious (self inflicted) tail injury for over six weeks.  Her fees are extremely reasonable for her quality of work.  Her staff (thanks Claire, Sarah, and Cindy!!!) are top notch.

The cherry on top of the sundae is the dirty dog grooming store inside, a toy/pet food/etc shop inside, and an amazing day care and resort (yes kitty has spent some good resort time there as well!).

If your pets are your kiddos then this is the place to be.

    Thanks AUV!

After learning our original facility was booked for Christmas, my wife and I were elated when Austin Urban Vet Center had room for boarding our precious vizsla puppy. We weren't sure how our dog would take to a new place, but after her "trial run" it was clear she loved it.

I knew immediately after meeting Dr. Erin Homburg (vet) that she loves dogs, all dogs. She is always spending time to play with each dog in her facility. I mention this because even though she is running a business - she truly is a dog lover and will do what is best for your dog.

The place is very clean and has a good vibe to it. The staff are very friendly and seem to all really love dogs. Plenty of parking (downtown) and there's even a store if you need anything for your pup. For boarding, each dog gets a private suite - which is much different than a cage or crate in that the dogs have room to move around. That suite also comes with a TV that plays movies and a video camera which streams online! I can't tell you how comforting (read: addicting) it was to be able to watch our dog playing or sound asleep online while being hundreds of miles away.

Another thing I liked is that the staff will feed your dog according to their own schedule. So, if yours is a finicky eater and doesn't have set times when they eat, the staff will accommodate.

The only drawback I have (which is why I rated it 4 rather than 5 stars) is Price. It is outrageously expensive compared to other facilities. Probably due to the location and amenities, but, it's something to note.

Nevertheless, Two paws up for AUVC!

Top notch facility!!  This place has it all.

Don't worry about the fact it is downtown because they have their very own free parking lot!!  Dr. Homburg is the best vet in Austin.  She is very intelligent, friendly, funny, down to earth and really cares about the animals.  She helped me with my Siamese cat when he got sick and recently did the spay for my puppy.  FYI:  Dr. Homburg does not use the type of stitches that need to be removed at a later date so it saves you a 2nd vet trip post surgery!

I also utilized their boarding facility  for 4 nights which is upstairs from the vet office.  Officially it is called Upper Paw Pet Resort.  Here the animals get their own little room complete with cot and a TV with DVD player for movies.  They have web cam so you can check on your animal anytime.  They take them out several times a day to play and walk in the indoor dog park.  When I picked my dog up she was happy, healthy and they even gave her a treat before leaving.  In addition I received a "Pawgress report" telling me about her stay.  They also gave me a picture they had taken of her that I have pinned up on my cork board at home.  Before leaving they took her to Dirty Dog and gave her a bath and ear hair trim so she was fresh and clean.

The type of food they carry here is Royal Canin which is better than Science Diet that many vets carry but not as good as Wellness (which is what I feed my animals).  They also carry a great selection of toys including UT logo attire for your pet.  You will love this place!!

Austin Urban Vet rocks! My cat wasn't feeling well and hadn't eaten in days..I was so worried I looked up vets in the area and came across AUVC. They were completely booked for the day but insisted we bring Juice in and the doctor would take a look at him in between visits. WIthin 2 hours I recieved a call from Dr. Jordan. He told us our cat was suffering from mild dehydration and constipation. He checked his heart, lungs, and did some blood work on Juice. (which he said we can also use for a dental cleaning in the future.) Dr. Jordon kept him overnight until he was all clear :) When we picked Juice up the next day they showed us the xrays of his colon and gave us medication for his constipation. Dr. Jordon kept me updated on Juice's status. He is all better now and we are so grateful for all the care and love AUVC gave him! Definitely  recommend for any pet in need of some care!

Like Jackie H and Sara K I am also VERY picky about my vet center.  Mowgli and Albert are my surrogate children and they always get the best of care.

I had been going to Anderson Mill Animal Clinic for quite sometime, but recently moved close to downtown and it started to become kind of a hassle.  So, I did some Yelp searches and found the Austin Urban Vet Center.

I got an appointment scheduled pretty quickly.  The place is fairly new, so I think that they are not very busy as of yet.

The vet center is right on 5th street.  It's pretty fancy.  The boarding place is on the second floor (there is an elevator to it).  It's $50+ a night (I almost lost my lunch when I heard that).  But it does look quite nice.

The facilities are very clean and they have some fancy dog toys out front.  The gal who greeted me was cute and very nice.  Albert was particularly fond of her, but he's particularly fond of most everyone, haha.

The vet was running about 30 minutes behind, which normally would have my panties in a bunch, but it was Saturday morning and I didn't have anywhere to go.

Dr. Homburg was very nice and she seemed to know what she was talking about.  I will say they're a bit pricier then most vets, but it seemed to be a pretty legit establishment.  I'll be back in November for some more shots

My dog would be best described as a "4 lbs of Cujo"... she's mean to strangers and will draw blood...   However, the vet techs and veterinarian were so patient with her!  We had to try 3 different muzzles (S, XS, XXS)... :(  But, all the staff kept a positive attitude and were even slightly impressed with her gumption (versus getting upset only to make things more uncomfortable).  I appreciated the service immensely ...and so did Lolita (my dog).

I'm definitely glad to have found a new vet conveniently located and reasonably priced.

I just want a few things in my vet.
    1. Super skilled
    2. Proper bedside manners
    3. Affordable

I have been to several vets in town with my many dogs that I have owned. I have never gotten all 3 things I wanted in vet...until now.

Dr. Erin Homburg + staff = AMAZING.

They love your pets like you love your pets. They always remember your name and the name of your pet (and all things going on with your pet without referring to a piece of paper from your last visit). It's super dooper clean. They get on the ground and love up on your animal and will answer every single question that you could possibly have (I know this because my husband will ask every question under the sun that remotely pertains to the situation at hand:). A ton of parking for being right down town, dog boarding (that you can sign up for online and view your lil' precious running amok), great dog food & treats, Dirty Dog is attached, etc...

I am so thankful that I switched vets. These people are utterly wonderful and I have complete trust and confidence with them.

Someone yelped that 'they were a bit more pricey than other vets'...I have found the opposite. And that being said, even if I did have to pay a bit more knowing that my sweet dog is in the best hands, so be it.

Yes, I'm one of "those" people. I consider my dog my child. Facebook even says so. Now that I've put that out there, it should be no surprise how much care I take in picking out a vet for my dog, Shiner.

After I don't know how much research of vets in the Austin area (at least I won't admit how much time I spent), I decided to give AUVC a try. First of all, what an AMAZING facility!! Absolutely beautiful and modern! Not only is it a vet clinic, but they have a little shopping area, an overnight program equipped with cameras so you can check up on your pets AND a daycare! For a super concerned fur baby parent, such as myself, this is beyond words fantastic! A vet on site where my fur child plays in case anything happens?!? My frazzled nerves and heart thank you!!

We had an appointment with Dr. Erin Homburg. I can't tell you enough how impressed I was by Dr. Homburg. She really knows her stuff and was really great with Shiner - Disclaimer: We're kind of hyper-critical because Jake's dad is a vet. She was friendly, nice, informative and put me, in addition to Shiner, at ease. One thing that I'm always worried about is how people handle Shiner because he's a ridiculous ball of hyper energy and can be quite the handful. Dr. Homburg is a skilled woman :)

Our little family is so pleased to have found such a wonderful vet with such a nice and well thought out facility.

I am really picky about vets, and this place is the best. My dog Mini has been taken care of by Dr. Erin Homburg for a few years and we were thrilled when she opened this center near our home. Dr. Homburg knows her stuff, has awesome bedside manner, and really cares about her patients. We have been in for a dental procedure as well as having a cyst removed. Both times had a great experience.

We had an issue with Mini tearing out the cyst stitches on a Saturday after vet hours. The staff (who is there for the retail and dog washing part of the business) was so accommodating and had us come in to rewrap the incision. Luckily it had healed and so didn't need new stitches when we saw Dr Homburg on Monday.

Don't hesitate to take your furry child to this clinic. He/she will be well taken care of!

The place is expensive compared to other vets but there's some real benefits which have stopped me from switching. I can walk my dog there from where I live. I have never had a problem getting an appt time or any issues canceling last minute. I can pop in anytime to weigh my dog and they sell meds and flea prevention as a single dose whenever I run out. The place feels very modern and clean compared to some other vet offices I have been in.

The facility and staff are great here. I haven't met one that isn't friendly or happy to see me or my dog. My dog has seen Dr. Erin and Jordan and I would say both were open minded and patient with me as my dog went through some minor health issues as a puppy.

Dr. Erin Homburg is the best vet in town. I've been a client of hers for nearly 7 years now. I've had two dogs with cancer and she has always taken great care of them and gives practical advice. She understands the delicate balance between wanting what's best for your pet and managing costly procedures.

Austin Urban Vet Center is downtown; perfect for me as it's right by my office. However, don't let the downtown location keep you away if you have to drive in; they have a super-convenient parking lot, so you don't have to scramble for parking. I wouldn't go anywhere else!

Wow I am so impressed, if my doctor was half as good as these vets... What I appreciate the most is that the vets do what's best for your pet not their pocket book. As a new puppy owner they could have recommended several expensive options when Lucy got sick, and I would have paid. Instead they recommended a wait and see approach and it worked! When we go into the exam room the vets sit on the floor and play and examine the dogs vs forcing them up on a table. The facility is very clean and the staff shows genuine interest in making sure your 4 legged family member  is comfortable. I highly recommend them to any pet owner/ pet parent!

We were anxious to find a new vet for our dog after relocating from DC, and we couldn't be happier with Dr. Jordan at Austin Urban Veterinary Center. We called the Center on a Friday afternoon and were able to schedule an initial examination for the following morning. The office staff and vet tech who worked with our dog were friendly and understanding of the (slight) neuroses that develop from having an elderly dog to care for! We were able to take a tour of the boarding/daycare facilities upstairs and were impressed with the cleanliness and spaciousness of the area. The staff working in this area showed warmth and compassion, introducing us to every dog staying in the facility at the time!

I'm not a client of Austin Urban Vet. Center but they are very close to my office and when my fiance found a lost dog earlier today we brought him there. The front desk girl, Sarah, and the office manager, Becky, were super sweet and helped us to reunite Sam the Rat Terrier with his rightful owners. They even offered to kennel him for the day while waiting for his owners to come retrieve him and offered to call me if his people didn't show so that I could decide what to do next.

If I didn't already have a vet that I absolutely love and adore I would definitely use this practice.

Don't hesitate: this is your vet and boarding location! We've followed Dr. Erin Homburg for 11 years and will continue to do so. She and her staff are smart, caring, friendly, and make us feel so welcome and appreciated, and make our pets feel GREAT! As a working mom, Dr. Homburg works very hard to make her practice convenient. Every one of the staff members know who we are, know what is going on, and are super kind and helpful. I drive 30 min at least to get to Austin Urban Vet Center despite being busy with work, travel, family, etc--it is worth the drive! No one better in Austin that Dr. Erin Homburg and Austin Urban Vet Center!!!

First of all, I need to preface that I just had to put my beloved friend of 15 yrs down 3 days ago.  Though it was hard to do, it was a must ( she had tumors on her liver and was a matter of days).
Now Sasha(my girl) had only been going to see Dr. Homburg since November but, since then has been treated like a long time patient.  The staff here is amazing and Dr. Homburg is by far one of the best Vets I have had the pleasure in dealing with.
As I said earlier, Sasha had to be put down and I have to say I expected cold metal tables in a surgical room.  To my surprise, we had a private room with a couch and soft rug on the floor in which the procedure was done.  She gave us our time to say good-bye, spoke to us softly and made (as much as you can in a time like this) a miserable experience okay. Mind you, I am sure you could hear my loud sobs all the way in Georgetown but, they let us be.
We knew that we were getting her ashes by Friday but they went a further step in the process.  They sent us a hand written card from the staff and Dr. Homburg.  Who does this anymore?????  They do!!! And sent with it a paw print and some locks of Sasha's hair.  I know it may sound silly but, to me this is what sell me on this Vet.  They really do care about the pets they take care of and also their owners.  A+

I have been a client of Dr. Erin Homberg since 2002. Erin has her own vet clinic! She is a great diagnostician, and compassionate care giver. Austin Urban Vet Center offers boarding, playcare and of coarse vet services. Dirty Dog is there and Lofty Dog has provided their merchandising savvy.

Dr. Homburg is fantastic!  I took my teacup yorkie to two other vets before Dr. Homburg diagnosed her correctly and cured her skin allergies.  She is super thorough and very caring, plus her location is conveniently located downtown by my office.  After my visit, Dr. Homburg followed up with me twice to make sure my dog was on the mend.  I have recommended her to several of my friends, and they have had the same positive experience.

I've brought my dog here for play care a few times now and she loves it!  All of the staff is friendly and it is obvious that they love their jobs. Plus they have webcams in the play areas so you can watch your pooch play while you are at work.  The location is perfect as it is easy to access on the way in and out of downtown. I used Dr. Homberg as my vet at Brykerwood and she is one of the best in town.
