I just bought an 09 Honda Fit from these guys, and worked with David Reyes there.

We were looking for a Honda Fit to replace our 1997 CR-V.

As a lady who grew up in Houston, I've had some bad experiences with dbag car salesmen and hate buying cars for this reason.  David was respectful, responsive and easy to work with.   He also let my 3 year old eat most of the snacks in the waiting area and attempt to grind play-doh into the carpet of his office.

We walked out with a fair price on a good car. I recommend purchasing from David.

david martinez (sales rep) and trey (sales manager) gave me a GREAT deal on a new Subaru!  They literally made sure no other subaru dealership would even come close by going beyond what I asked for just to earn my buiness and ensure there is no competition.

    Pros:
    local and in Austin
    long time establishment
    price competitive
david martinez is a great sales rep, he's diligent with his process and will work hard to earn your business

    Cons:
mixed customer service and low inventory;  david was great, but i can't say all their sales reps are and they have less inventory than other dealerships.  that's the only knock on them from getting 5 stars.

We LOVE our Outback! However, being the only Subaru dealer in Austin they don't like to work with you too much on pricing. We ended up requesting quotes through http://Edmunds.com and received much better pricing. We presented this to our sales person at Austin Subaru to see if they could match it and they wouldn't. So we saved about $800 and drove to a Subaru dealer in Houston. Well worth the money.

The reason I gave Austin Subaru two stars is when we choose to save money and purchase our car from another dealer, our sales person sent us a nasty email with personal attacks. We then forwarded this email to the GM of Austin Subaru and we never heard a thing. Quite disappointing...

Though we live in south Austin, we will be driving to Georgetown to have our Subaru serviced. : )

We visited from out of town when my 2011 outback needed service I couldn't get to before the holidays. Called before to make sure they could fit me in and sure enough they told me I could do a walk in for an oil change up until 5:30pm.
We arrived around 1:45pm and they were pretty busy, but there were no cars in the service lane. Waited at least 10 minutes before being helped as all the service advisors were busy or not at their desk. Only after going inside did I manage to roust Sal, a cordial advisor who took my info and got us going immediately.

The waiting room was a loveseat and some chairs just off the main showroom. They had some coffee in 2 portable decanters however 1 was stone cold and they other tasted like it had been there since early in the morning. They did have liquid creamer to my suprise but no snacks or even a vending machine. My only problem with where the waiting room was located was it put us in the middle of the negotiations with the customers and the work conversation of the service advisors. If I'm coming in for service from a dealer that costs 50% more than other places it would be nice not to have to worry about someone else losing their tails on a car deal or an advisor making fun of someone where he ate lunch.

The management could fix these minor gripes and make the experience a lot more enjoyable.

We were done in around an hour and even though we didn't receive a car wash like I read in some of the other reviews I won't hold it against them if the quality of the service as high as others say. Sal was polite, professional, and got us on our way quickly.

I've had my car serviced here twice and they are always friendly, prompt, and do a great job. I also like the free carwash that comes with the oil change/service, and the coffee they provide in the waiting room. The guys here have even stayed late to let me pick up my car when I couldn't get out of work before close. And, when I told them I wasn't going to get my tires replaced at the dealership because I could get them cheaper somewhere else, the guy I was working with agreed with me and kindly pointed me to http://tirerack.com, which was awesome. He said I could buy the tires there, and get them put on at the dealership.

However - and this is true of all dealerships - I feel as though I'm always getting waaaay over-quoted (double or triple what private shops will charge) and sold needless services.  I'm also not a big fan of sales-y scare tactics (example: If you don't get this fixed for $5,000 - insert huge logical jump - your car will die or you will certainly have to spend twice as much getting this other thing fixed later!). But it's a dealership, so what's new.

So, prompt service, nice waiting room, free carwash, and free coffee means I will probably continue getting a slightly expensive oil change/service here just to take my car to a bona-fida Subaru place at least once a year. However, they sell needless services and over-quote greatly so I will be getting my second opinions and taking my big ticket repairs elsewhere. I feel I would probably give them 3 stars if they weren't a dealership and I wasn't already expecting to be overcharged going in.

In my old city, where it seemed to snow non-stop for 4 months (reason 165 that I moved to Austin), it seemed that having a car that could handle the conditions was needed. Subaru's offer AWD in all of their cars, so you can be safe on the road, without having to drive a SUV with 4WD (I recycle and don't drive an SUV.......I know, tree hugger, right?). It almost seemed like there was a Subaru dealer on every street corner, and you knew at least 4 people who drove one.

Here in Austin it isn't the same story.... there are only two dealers to service the entire Austin area. The third closest dealer is in San Antonio! So when my sunroof started leaking on my passengers  I thought I should have it looked into. I considered keeping it the way it was..... it was kind of like having an injector seat from the movies.... but since I couldn't control it, and my boss didn't seem all too happy about showing up to the meeting looking like he had pissed his pants, I thought I should FINALLY get it fixed. Much like you are probably saying "When is he FINALLY going to get to the review"?

Well, Austin Subaru, being the only choice of Subaru dealers (and since no other mechanic would fix a sun roof) was my logical choice. First, I had to make an appointment to get my car fixed, a week after I originally called..... What is this? The doctors office?

Second, I took the car in there at my appointment, and they informed me that they would clean out my sun roof gutter (I acted like I totally knew what they were talking about, although I had no idea sunroofs had such things), and they were going to lube up my sunroof track. Ok, so far so good.... then I asked the big question "How Much"?

This is always the dreaded question in an auto body shop.... the mechanic replied "$230, but it might not fix it"

$230 dollars for what? To lube up my track (that sounds dirty!) and to clean out my gutter (not as dirty, but still.....)? No thanks! If I am giving a place $230 dollars I would at least like them to install a part, or put the car up on that car lifting thingy....... 230 dollars worth of labor? Blow some air down my sunroof track?  Wow. But, thanks for telling me exactly what you were going to do! That information will be nice when looking for someone who doesn't charge 230 dollars for labor.

Austin Subaru..... rip off on labor, and too busy to service that many Subaru's. They do get some credit for trying to get more Subaru's on the road in Austin.

I usually avoid all dealerships like the plague, especially if I'm buying a car.  However, turned out the exact Lexus hardtop convertible I was looking for popped up on eBay, and, guess what? It was at Austin Subaru.

I called up and spoke to one of the salespeople, David, learned the car was still there, and went to take a look.  When they brought the 6 year old/70k mile car around, I was stunned at the beautiful condition... I mean, everything had been cleaned and polished... floor mats had been taken out for cleaning and then covered in protective plastic, tires like new and all shiny, engine compartment just as perfect as the day it left the factory.

Honestly, I could have driven this car right down to a local car show and won first place in class.. it was that clean and perfect!..

David didn't subject me to the old bait and switch sales routine.... no "let's take that offer to the manager" tricks.  We discussed price and came pretty close to a deal, but I wanted to think it over.  Next day (a Sunday) , I called up David, we came to an agreeable price over the phone, and he faxed me a form for a small credit card deposit to seal the deal.

Later that day, we went and picked up the car, and David said a personal check would be fine for full payment (banks closed on Sunday).

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the car had been serviced (oil change, etc), and a few rain spots had been waxed out in preparation for my pickup.

The final nice surprise was when they filled the car with gas, no charge.  And, the dealership charged a mere $100 total fee for all the paperwork and registration (plus actual DMV fees of course), a nice change from many of the rip-off dealers who try to make their profit on extra paperwork fees.

I doubt I'll ever have a yen to own a Subaru, but if I did, no doubt this is the place I'd come to.
    Thanks David!

I brought my car in for an oil change this morning, and received a complimentary car wash.  Unfortunately, the car came back with horrible swirl marks.

I pointed this out to the service manager (David Cruz), and he immediately offered to detail it for me.  He took care of having the swirl marks buffed out and offered me a free loaner to get to work, then delivered my car to me when it was done.  It came out *beautiful*.

So, a ding for putting the swirl marks on in the first place, but a HUGE thank-you for making it right without even giving me a chance to argue about it!

I have had 3 Subaru's since living in Austin, and since there is serious DEARTH of Junk Yards in this city, especially with Subaru's I have had to buy parts from these guys on occasion.  I usually find what I need online, but that doesn't always work out either.

The parts guys are great and knowledgable, and helpful.  I have had no trouble with them finding a part or getting it to me when they say they would.  I expect it to take longer than an autozone and to cost 8 times as much (it's a dealer folks, no surprise here).

I did have them quote the cost of a rear main seal (outside my tool range) and it was close to $1000.  I found a place in Buda that did it for less than $400 and he did it in ONE DAY.  (Moonlight Automotive)

Another great reason to buy a Subaru in Austin...
Dave Cruz and the service department at Subaru Austin are always at the top of their game. They don't dilly dally on the reasons, they just get right to the fix. Always friendly, always professional and always ON IT! The last thing you want when you have any issue or just a maintenance stop is a lack of interest, and you'll never find that here. They get it done.
Thanks to the team at Austin Subaru.
And as a side note, the Tribeca is one of the best autos I have ever driven.

My fiancée had wanted a new car for 2 years. Here 10 year old civic was getting a bit long in the tooth. We shopped around and found that she like the outback. So we did our research and knew what we wanted to pay and what options we wanted.

We went test driving and the sales man was very helpful. He let us take it on our own and go where we wanted. "Just bring it back in one piece". He was very helpful and knowledgeable about the car. A few months later we went in to buy the car. We worked with the same sales man and the process was painless. We identified the car we wanted, how much we were putting down, and made sure we got the special rate.

Then the sales pitch: "What do I have to do to sell this car?" Take 1,500 off the MSRP. Thinks about it, DONE.

The car arrived 3 days earlier than expected. We finished the paper work and talked to the financial guy about other options (Warranty).

After that we drove the car home. There was absolutely no pressure in the process. We got what we wanted at the price we wanted. The sales people where there to inform us about the car and the process not strong arm us into buying stuff we didn't want or need.

I hope the service department is just as good. We'll see in a few months.

I bought my 2007 Subaru Forester XT from Roger Matthews at Austin Subaru after my 1998 Subaru Forester was diagnosed as needing more in repairs than it was actually worth. Roger was pleasant and knoweldgeable, not at all pushy, and helped coordinate the sale with my husband who was still in New Orleans (so a little extra paperwork). Helped us get a great rate on a 2-year note, and the whole process was as painless as car buying can be.

Since that time, I've taken the new Forester in for its regularly scheduled checkups five or six times. Every time, James and David (the service department gurus) have gone the extra mile, checking and double-checking items for me, looking up service specials for me, never recommending anything that doesn't need to be done, and providing the best customer service I think I've ever seen at a dealership. I hear them doing the same for other customers; assessing what on a big service job needed to be done immediately, what could wait but not too long, and what could be put off for a while. I love the appointment system, which means I'm always in and out in an hour or less. And the guys are just genuinely friendly and there to help you keep your car running on down the road. So kudos to James and David, and seriously, five stars for an excellent buying and ownership experience.

(And if Subaru could just get a hybrid together by the time I need another Forester, which should be about 2016 or so, that would be great too.)

I took my 2005 Impreza in on Wed to have a recalled part removed from the gas tank, and experienced some problems when I got it back - the car was leaking gas. I called the dealership Saturday morning and talked to Brent, the manager on duty. He had my car towed from my house at the dealership's expense, and had a loaner car waiting for me when I got to the dealership. Once the issue was fixed,  Shannon in the service dept had my car cleaned and replaced the gas that had leaked... and had it delivered to me while at work so I didn't have to take time off to grab it from the dealership. All of this without any hassle or exchanging impolite words.

If you're looking at buying a car or need repair work done on your Subie, check these folks out. They've provided the best customer service I've gotten from a dealer or mechanic. I highly recommend them.

So about a year ago my husband and I decided to finally replace my Mustang and go car shopping. Although he drove an STI and insisted that I would love the new look of the WRX, I (like the delightfully stubborn person I am) insisted that I wanted a "sports car". My husband just smiled and took me around town to check our the new Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers. Not only did we visit car lots that were overpriced (new Camaros were going for $10,000 OVER sticker) and out of stock, but we met either insanely pushy or blasé sales reps that made me want to run the other direction. This really discouraged me and even had me considering Carmax (at least there we don't have to play the bargain game). But by then my husband decided to step in and insisted we go to the Subaru dealership. We drove through the lot and my eyes immediately widened. I looked at the new Forresters and Outbacks and thought, "When did Subaru's SUV's get cool?" We got out and looked at some Imprezas and then went to the other side of their lot, which is where they keep their nicer and more upgraded cars, to see what they had. It was like a scene from a movie. We turn the corner and a ray of light is shining down on this beautiful fully-loaded pearl WRX. We go over and look at it and marvel in it's beauty. Even my husband is drooling a bit. At this point, we knew what our price was and we knew this was a bit above it. But we decide to tease ourselves and go inside to ask for a test drive. This is where we met our sales guy, Jesse, who tells us to take it for a spin and come back and let him know what we think. At this point, Jesse has a glint in his eye because he knows all it will take is one spin in this car and we are sold. So we take it out and run it around like crazy. We are both amazed at how fast and smooth the car rides and how beautifully it shifts gears. But inside I'm secretly dying because I know I'm in love and have a hard time changing my mind once it's made up. Ok ok so I've set this story up way too much. To make a long story short, we get back and find that this WRX had been a model car that the manager had driven around some so they were able to knock off a huge chunk (about as much as you would devalue the car just by driving it off the lot) and we were able to afford it. Our sales guy Jesse was so awesome and patient with us, even after my husband tried to haggle the price down even more ;-) After finding out my husband had an STI Jesse went in the back and got us some cool WRX keychains and shirts. I just couldn't have been happier with the service we got that day.
Now I go back every couple of months for my free oil change and car washes and I always take a few minutes to  go talk to Jesse. He always asks about my car and answers any questions I have. He really goes above and beyond what is expected from "a typical car salesman." But besides him, the auto-shop guys are always really cool and honest with you about what is needed. I would even compliment Austin Subaru's receptionists because they are on top of it no matter what you are calling about.
So I may have thought that I wanted another Mustang or Camaro, but when it comes down to it I got such a cooler (and sooooooo much faster) car and have something that is incredibly safe. My husband is already talking about replacing his STI with the new one and I can't wait! But my WRX is truly my dream car and I am now a Subaru girl forever.

I'm very torn on my rating of Austin Subaru's service department.

Positive: great customer service, explained everything thoroughly, service you know you can rely on, another mechanic told me I needed certain things, and subaru clarified that wasn't the case. So that's why I use austin subaru service -- I trust my car is in good shape. Oh, great waiting room with very nice employees. And austin subura is a FANTASTIC community partner.

Negative: service prices are over-priced -- perhaps because they are a dealership with VERY high overhead and they are open on saturdays -- speaking of which I observed SEVERAL sales and service employees doing nothing -- and yes sitting in the waiting room -- for hours at a time because there was nothing to do. being a business person -- i know that these overhead costs are passed on to me the customer. Further, I spent a substantial sum of money (for me) on preventive maintenance (about $1k) and while I got good (overpriced) service, I also got oily handprints all over my car, all sorts of debris on the passenger side front seat, and my radio stations reset to spanish language channels. i couldn't believe that a manager let a car go out of the shop like that. So after I left I spent a good hour at the car wash, even though the weekend before i had just spent about $200 on a thorough car detailing. This was not appreciated. I would have brought all of this to my service advisor's attention, but he was standoff-ish, and really rushed me out of the (four-hour) appointment.

so on the one hand the customer service from the service advisors is 5-star but the delivery is a 3-star, and because I probably won't return because of the delivery, and will look for a mechanic i can trust through personal references, i've ultimately given them a 3-star. I feel like overall there is respect for the product and service but perhaps more respect is needed toward the customer. Perhaps they have so much business they don't care what I think, and that's ok.

Austin Subaru sets the standard for car dealers. Roy Reyes is absolutely the best sales guy there is to work with. Roy is a genuine expert in his field, utterly honest, and sets the highest quality standards for customer service and the quality of the cars that he sells. You can trust Roy's word on any aspect of the transaction or the vehicle itself. Austin Subaru has wonderful used cars.  I have purchased five cars (new and used) through Austin Subaru, and though I live 1000 miles from Austin, I will not go anywhere else, ever, to purchase a car.

I love those new Subaru commercials where the guy is talking soo slow and discussing how great the Subaru company is about being eco-friendly.   That would be nice if the service at Austin Subaru wasn't soo bad.  I used to own a 2001 Forester but I decided to get rid of it because of this service department.  They yelled at me when my car overheated on a Saturday and I limped it over to the dealer.  I was assured by the sales crew that it was OK to leave it.  It turned out to be a blown head gasket and I was forced to take it to another shop.  Even after that fiasco I gave them other chances to redeem themselves.  Each time I brought my car in they would swear that they had never seen the issue before in a Subaru before.  They would always imply I was driving the car wrong or had the wrong tires or I was crazy.  I loved the Forrester and how it drove but after repeated trips to the dealer for service and not being able to find a good mechanic to work on it, I decided to buy a Saturn instead.
    -Update!  08/10/09
The general manager Lance has contacted me to let me know that things are different over at Austin Subaru.  I really appreciated the call and felt like I was being too harsh and holding a grudge too long.   I am upgrading their review to three stars and will definitely go see them when I am in the market for a new car again.

Should have been sleeping with only a few hours left until I go back to work. Have been looking to buy a WRX Premium for the past few days. Today was the day to buy one. So I drove to the lot and stood outside in the 100 degree weather for about 10 minutes or so... I went inside and was looking at the brochures for about another 20-30 minutes.. I saw some salesman who were busy, but the ones in the office, clear in my view, were too busy playing on their phones. I really wanted to see the WRX I wanted to get but I didn't see any from where I was standing. So I went back outside and helped myself through the car lot. With no salesman helping me, I didnt get the car I wanted. Georgetown and San Antonio is a bit further away but I will try those car lots instead. Too bad Austin Subaru, someone could of sold me a WRX Premium today. Wasted my sleep time and gas! Bleh!

    It's the little things...

I went back to Austin Subaru for another repair (if you haven't caught on, my car needs a lot of attention - but it is still better than a car payment!). They noticed, as I recently had, that one of the reverse lights was out. I was planning on just swinging by a auto parts store and replacing it myself to save some money from having them do it. However, without any fanfare, they replaced it for me - no charge for parts (less than $3 on the slip) or labor!

Not to say that they always comp the little things (after all, I had to pay the $8 for the battery for my remote my first time in). But, this was definitely a nice gesture!

Oh yeah, and if you haven't noticed, I'm back in the "Subaru family". Their response to my original issue was excellent enough that I will continue to return to Austin Subaru for repairs. :-)

So, I've been to Austin Subaru twice for service.  The first time was for the dreaded 60k mile service that costs an arm and a leg.  I complained about a whining noise also and had a recall taken care of.  This service went fine, but they couldn't find the whine.  I had some warranty work done previously at the dealership called Gilman Subaru in South Austin and had horrible experiences and the broke more things than they fixed and had my car for a radio faceplate repair that I had an appt for for 7 days.

Anyway, i just went to Austin Subaru because we had a CV boot crack and grease spewing everywhere.  I made the appt the day before and dropped it off that evening.  I mentioned the whining noise again as well.  I authorized the work and they took care of it.  I got a call that next day about noon saying the car was ready and they fixed both issues and changed my oil.  I told Sal that Gilman couldn't find the whine and asked if they'd even noted it in the global system that I had them look at it and they hadn't.  I said 'that figures'.  So, I got the price from Sal and said I'd be there to pick it up.  $381.   On my way there Sal called me and said he talked to his manager about the whining noise and in a good faith gesture they would waive the cost of fixing the whining noise dropping the price by almost $80.

This was without me even asking.  Anyway.  They've recruited a customer who generally shy's away from the dealerships for service.

Bottom line, Great Service, on time and not as expensive as you would think.

    Thanks!

I have been going to Austin Subaru for service for several years.  Shannon, one of their service managers, has always been knowledgeable, thorough, and helpful.  I have had only one small problem and Dave Cruse(sp?) the head of the service department quickly solved the problem.  Based on this experience, I highly recommend them for service.

I bought my Outback from here 5 years ago and that was a great experience.  Absolutely love my car so when it broke down, that's where I had it towed.  Everyone, and I do mean everyone.... from the mechanic (Billy, the Subaru Whisperer), James/Shannon the service schedulers, and David, the service mgr. were outstanding.  They all communicated clearly and honestly as to what was needed, how much it would cost and how long it would take.  I was given a brand new Forester for a loaner until  my baby was ready.  And the best part.... the final invoice was lower than estimated!
