I am a DIY-er, for the most part. I actually like sweating and working hard to make improvements in and around my home. However, painting the trim around the outside of my entire house, including the gutters AND a 20-foot-high eave over my garage is NOT something I'm willing to take on. I'm notoriously klutzy and there is no doubt that I would nearly kill myself attempting a job like this.

I sent in a quote request through Tex's website, then was contacted via phone by Scott, the owner. He came out a few days later and consulted with my boyfriend and I as to what exactly needed to be done. He even helped me choose a shade based upon the current color of my front door, since I didn't want that to change at all.

Tex's contracted workers showed up on time and were completely finished at 5 PM when I was arriving home from work. They left a ton of spare paint in the color I chose so that I could go back and do spot-work later on, should I need to do so.

It really doesn't get any easier than that. And the work looks great.

Four stars for Exterior paint job back in June 2010.
This house had not been painted since it was built 12 years ago, and I was looking to pay as little as possible for a good paint job.

    The Good;
    - The Quote; Eric White came by, and did his soft sell best. He had an excellent pitch, good personality, showed good references (well, and wouldn't you only show your best?!?) and reviews (this before I was a heavy 'Yelper'). He was informative, sincere, and my six year old daughter liked his colorful tat!
    - The Pricing; Good price/value, esp. when compared to other who quoted 40% more for brush painting/rolling it. I needed to save money here, as I have to start savings for the kid's college at some point!
    - Prep and Caulking; They used primer where needed and caulked with no gaps. Good attention to detail for these processes.
    - Paint Work; Color was nice, coverage was even, no misses, nor runs (and don't cha just hate it when you get the runs!). Best of all, no overspray and NOTHING for me to clean up. They kept the jobsite clean BOTH during and after the job was done.

    Minor improvement suggestion;
    - They included 2 things during the quote they never did; 1.) power wash the front and back (smallish) patios, and 2.) a fresh coat of finish my front door. Not sure what happenned on these 2 items, but they were not mentioned, and not followed -up on, hence the fallen 1 star. Not a huge deal.
    - Brush painting; could have had more even coverage on the things they hand painted....like the gutters.

So for a great paint job at a reasonable price, get a quote from Tex Painting.

I needed a paint and pressure spray project done on short notice and OF COURSE consulted Yelp to look for recommendations.  Scott the owner sent me some info via email on his company immediately and came over to provide a quote the day after my call.

I had just about made up my mind that I couldn't afford getting the work done and would have to suck it up and do it myself so I was pleasantly surprised at a much lower than expected bid that included materials, as well as a short turnaround time.

The work was done quickly and able-y and Scott's crew was professional and clean.  I have no complaints!  And I do so like to complain.

    FOR INTERIOR JOB- 4 rooms
If you're looking for super fast and moderately competent, these guys should work out. But what I was looking for was attention to detail, thoughtful processes and a 'turn-key' solution - the job was priced for all this.
Maybe I'm super anal about painting, but I was under the impression that you try to remove all things attached to the wall instead of painting around them - instead, I spent most of my morning going around and removing all the plates for switches, thermostats, alarm panels, etc. I also moved all of the furniture, removed towel racks and cleaned baseboards so the tape would actually stick (I missed one and paint got through). And when it was all done, I spent the afternoon and night moving all the furniture back where it was and replacing the plates.
Good thing I work from home.

Since the crew left, I've found paint on a new rug, spots they simply missed altogether, and a few areas where they got paint on the molding and baseboards.

+1 star for painting a tall wall that was over a stairwell - difficult to maneuver.

+1 star for promptly responding to my calls, quickly coming out for the quote, and showing up on time. Oh, and being super fast - which I guess in the end is pretty important.

I called up Tex Painting for an interior job (3 bedrooms and a laundry room) after reading the positive reviews on Yelp.

My experience started off well--great, in fact--faltered, and then ended only okay. In fact, I'd give them just 2.5 stars if I could, but I'm rounding up based on the guy who did the actual work.

So here's how it went down: Tuesday, I called to get an estimate on the job. The job manager, Eric, met me at the house at 6pm that evening and gave me an estimate that I was very pleased with and agreed to. When I told him I'd like to get the work done ASAP, he told me we could get it ALL done on Thursday. To say I was happy about this is an understatement. He told us they would take care of all the prep work--getting stuff off the walls, moving the furniture, etc., and all we needed to do was make sure breakable stuff was removed from the tops of the furniture that would be moved. So, we were set for the 2-man crew to arrive at our house at 9am Thursday morning.

Wednesday night, my husband and I started prepping (even though we'd been told they'd handle it). We removed everything off the walls, cleaned up clutter, removed all the Elfa shelves in the laundry room, etc.)

A bit before 9am on Thursday, Eric showed up at our house to say the 2-man crew he'd thought would be on the job weren't available, so instead, a 3-man crew would be arriving at one, and there'd be "one guy in each room" so that they could still finish the job by the end of the day.

    Sounded okay to me.

Well, at 1pm, the "3-man crew" showed up. But it was one painter, his wife, and their young son. Does that sound like a 3-man crew to you? Yeah, me neither. The wife helped cover stuff and tape, but she didn't do any painting. And of course the kid didn't do anything but sit out in the dad's truck most of the time. Poor little guy.

When I got home at 5-ish, one of the bedrooms and the laundry room were done. These were the two rooms that hadn't required primer or more-than-one coat of paint. My daughter's room and the master were still works in progress.

About 6:30, the painter told me he needed more paint to finish the master, so I made a quick run to Lowe's to get another gallon.

Right when I got back, Eric called to check on how things were going. The painter said he'd be done in "about 20 mintues". I expected that Eric would be coming by to check the job and collect payment. But no. He was in Hutto and couldn't get down to SW Austin were we live. Then when I asked him if he could be by in the morning btwn. 8:30 and 9am to wrap things up, he said no, it would have to be later--btwn. 9:30 - 10:00--b/c he had 2 jobs he had to start in Tarrytown at 9am. Sure, I'll rearrange my whole schedule to accomodate you, Eric. No prob.

When it came time for the painter to leave, his truck battery was dead (due to Junior being in the truck all day with the radio on), so I had to give him a jump.

This morning when Eric showed up, I gave him my feedback: Ultimately, the work got done quickly and well. However, the overall impression and how the job got done was very unprofessional and, had we not done the prep work we did, there's no way they would've finished yesterday. Also, they didn't remove the switch plates, and instead painted around them. To me, that's just standard painting procedure, so I hadn't even thought to ask if they'd be doing it. He offered to come down on the price a bit, but I didn't want any money to come out of the poor dude who worked his BUTT off on the job, so I politely declined.

I'm sad to say that I don't think I'd use Tex Painting again, which is a shame since we're prepping our house for sale over the next few months, and there's definitely more work that we could've sent their way.

I've used Tex Painting twice now.  The first time, I used them to paint the exterior of my home.  The crew they brought did an excellent job.  Thus, I didn't hesitate to contact them again when I needed the inside of my rental property painted.

Unfortunately, they did a positively awful job on my rental property.  They gave me bad advice and said it would be fine to paint over wallpaper (I questioned them about it incessantly, as the other painters I spoke to said that the wallpaper needed to be removed).  They didn't follow my instructions to remove shelves, failed to patch a hole in the drywall they found, painted over even "trim strips" of wallpaper when they were supposd to be removed.  I let them come back twice to try to finish the job to my satisfaction, but I eventually had to give up because a tenant was moving in.  To their credit, they did refund me half what I paid for the job since the experience was such a nightmare.

I can highly recommend Tex Painting!

The owner, Scott Miller, was a very nice guy and very professional. He came out and did a free estimate. At that meeting, and every time I met with him, he was very punctual. He usually had to wait on me, actually.

I'll admit, I only got one other estimate but Scott's was lower and he seemed good so I went with him.

He told me it would take 3 days, it took just under 3 days. He told me it would be X dollars and that's exactly how much it was, no surprises.

His crew was very polite and professional. I stopped by several times to see how things were going and they were always very friendly.

The actual paint job looks great. All the lines look nice and neat. I am very pleased with the whole experience and I can recommend Tex Painting with no complaints.

    Holy crap, paint!

I called Tex Painting to get a quote on changing color for a few rooms at our new home.  Living room, kitchen, and two bedrooms: $850.  And that's with the pricey Kelly Moore "Green Coat" (no-VOC) paint.

Unlike another reviewer's experience, our painter removed all of the faceplates and blinds that he could, so maybe it depends on who is doing the job.

We had a few delays on getting the painting finished up, largely due to Tex Painting being short-staffed at the moment, but everything got done  before we moved in.

The lines look really good and the color is consistent.  They offered to come out and do any touch-ups if we noticed places that needed them, but we'll probably just handle that ourselves.

Painting can be maddening...look what happened to van Gogh and he didn't even do interiors and exteriors!   Finding a good painter isn't much more fun.  Our office building was due it's every 8 - 10 year exterior paint job.  A few weeks earlier we had another established, busy company (who shall remain nameless to protect the guilty) paint the interior of our office.  That job dragged on because some incomplete areas took literally weeks to finish due to one excuse (need to get the paint) or another (didn't have crew available).  For disclosure, the company had previously worked on our boss' home and did our office interior on a "gentleman's agreement" which didn't help the situation.  We even had to pay him in full before the job was complete.  With friends like that I'll take my chances with enemies for the next job- as long as it's in writing!

Not taking our non-profit association's money lightly, I gathered 4 estimates.  One from the company that did our interior (to use as a reference), one from an individual without any crews, one from a company that I'll just say has "Over 19 Years in Business" and Tex Painting.  After meeting with each company, going over portfolios and checking out references we chose to go with Scott Miller and Tex Painting.  While Scott wasn't the "cheapest" of estimates he was just over the lowest estimate and much lower than the highest estimate from the company doing business over 19 years.  We were comfortable with Scott's expertise and details of the job we required which included some concrete work.

Scott's crew came in over the course of four days to prep and paint our building at the hours he said.  Each day our building was cleaned to where we did not notice work was being done.  Once the job was done we took a walk around to check out the work.  We did have a minor issue with some wood being replaced in an area we briefly talked about and added during our initial estimate, but Scott gave us a time frame he said he would take care of it and actually came in days sooner than originally planned!

Anytime I needed to communicate with Scott I received a timely response via email or phone call.  His estimate was not a penny over what he said and the job was completed in the time and manner agreed upon in writing.  We paid him 20% prior to the work for materials and paid the balance after all work was completed.  The job Tex Painting did now speaks for itself and we are happy with the results!  It was a pleasant and very professional experience.  I would not hesitate to call Scott and use Tex Painting again for business or home use in the future.

Like the guy said when he quoted the job to me, painters get paid to prep - the painting is the easy part.  That said, when these guys came out, they did cover up the bits, take of blinds and remove plug covers.

It would have been nice if they hadn't broken a curtain rod, if they'd replaced any of the window covers they took down, and hadn't dripped paint on my hardwood floor that was missed with a drop cloth.  Sure, the walls look good, but how many stars do you get for pushing a roller back and forth?  The paint pretty much does the rest.

I've had a number of painters over the years, and the crew that was sent out (neither Eric nor Scott showed up for the job) missed on what I consider basic blocking and tackling.  They get 2 stars because their price was reasonable, and they showed up on time.

Update - 1 more star, because once they saw this review they did contact me and try to exchange services for an upgrade in the review.

We lease a couple of houses in Austin and I always call Scott to take care of it. My trust has never been misplaced. The prep work they do has saved us a lot of money and kept the houses looking the best on the block.

I'm pretty dang picky when it comes flaws and chips, but I don't even bother driving in to check the work anymore. I just have him send me a couple of photos and a bill.

Tex Painting might be better suited for external jobs rather than interior.  The painters were a bit sloppy and reckless.  Damaged baseboards, paint on blinds, floors, and shelving.  Next time we'll shell out the cash for a more professional job.  Not a crew that cares about the details.

    Huge MISTAKE hiring them!
here's the deal...  2 bedrooms, same color walls and trim with one single color accent wall, flat and semi gloss respectively. carpet is going so no worries about getting it dirty- piece of cake right?
then why am i doing touch-up after their third attempt at making it right?!
owner unprofessional and doesn't seem to know the difference between service and lip-service, and a crappy paint job.
after they ( and the owner was part of the crew)  touched up a flat wall with semi gloss paint i abandoned all hope of getting what i paid for.

if you want the switchplates removed and painted under, paint cleanup done outdoors, walls fully covered by paint-  call someone else!

I would stay away from this company if you want actual service. We requested a quote via their website. Within an hour or so, we received a call (from Eric I think)...great right...wrong. He scheduled a time for someone to come give us a quote the next day. Well no one showed up to give us  quote, so we called to see if there was a problem. Eric did not know of a problem, and he said he would call the person coming to give us our estimate and then he would call us right back. Well months later(as I am behind on my yelping), we are still waiting for a call back. We have since had the work done by someone else. One thing I just can't believe is that with the economy the way it is, why people don't go out of their wayto get business and make sure their customers are happy.

I used Scott and his team for a rental property.  Do not pay them until the job is 100% finished b/c he will not call you back.  I was initially impressed by them.  Once their work was done, I met Scott at the property and we went through it and identified some things they needed to do (haul off trash, clean up, a few touch ups, etc).  Scott asked for the final payment and I gave it to him.  After that he would not return calls or emails and he never finished the cleanup.  Lost a lot of respect for him at that point.  Will not use him again.
