Let's face it ..... having to go to the Gastro guy is not a pleasant experience, BUT Dr. Rice and his team made the process painless and as comfortable as possible. Caring staff (Michelle was great!) who kept the environment friendly and laid-back, yet professional .....not remembering a thing (thank you Propaphal!) .... and going under to Pink Floyd / waking up to Led Zeppelin ....what more can a girl want from a colonoscopy?
Kudos to this office .... made a not-so-fun procedure the best it could be. In my case, the prep was absolutely the worst part! -

Dr. Scott Becker has no bedside manners AT ALL... When I write one starred reviews, I usually feel bad, but this time: NO. I can't believe there are doctors out there like this. Maybe I'm just naive and think that doctors enjoy what they do, they aren't in it for the money, they actually want to CARE for people.
He's got the worst reviews...

I understand that the people who are upset will speak louder than the people who are satisfied, which is why I brushed that nagging voice off.
Why on earth did I do this. My partner had been having pains on and off and our family doctor couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. Funny thing is: the family doctor did MORE than Dr. Becker did. He was a complete utter D*UCHE B*G. WOW, seriously, I have NEVER used that word to describe anyone in my reviews... This man spent less than 5 minutes with us... Why even pay for a specialist. I've been to specialists before, they are usually very thorough and will try to figure out what's wrong with you; that's what they're there to do, right? Dr. Becker just told us to go home, and then visit him in a few days... I'm not trying to be dramatic or anything, I'm just so upset! Sure you can be a d*uche b*g doctor, but as long as you can figure out what's wrong, that'll be great... but if you're a d*uche b*g AND unhelpful, I will be taking my money elsewhere.
I wish we had gone with a better choice, like one of the other doctors at the many other locations... I can't believe this man is allowed to practice... -

SInce I (luckily) really don't have another gastroenterology practice to compare to, raves go to Dr. Kumar and his staff at Austin Gastro for making this procedure as comfortable as it can possible be. Very professional and thorough in explaining the prep and procedure, and yes, they've heard all the jokes!

Couple of things. Concerning the part about the health insurance/Dr's office contact debacle, I found out it was definitely the health insurance and not the Dr's office staff that was at fault here. So...I'll keep the experience here for reference.
Secondly, I have to say that, despite some of the other things I'd change...Leanne, one of the scheduler/staffers (don't know her official title) has really stepped it up. She has been very cool the past several times I've had to get things scheduled/deal with insurance/etc. And...in defense of Heather in the post below, she has been good to me as well.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I have been a patient here since 2007 and have had nothing but a great experience. Dr. Hsu & his nurse have been great. I really like Dr. Hsu's personality and "bedside manner". He really listens well & has a lot of experience with my particular disease. When I tell him my concerns or wants, he does a great job explaining why things work the way they do and seems genuinely concerned about what I'm going through. Even when I bring in the "latest research" I've found he has been aware of it already and is knowledgeable about it. I feel very comfortable here and well taken care of. I have not had any problems getting appointments, getting called back or with insurance. Great experience here so far.

I have been a physician in the Austin area for 10 years. I know the medical community well. I chose Dr. Pradeep Kumar. As far as skill level goes, most GI docs in the group are at the same level which is very good. What I like about Dr. Kumar is his dedication to his patients. He scoped my father a few years back. Somehow, the surgeons got involved in his case. I remember them talking with Dr. Kumar outside the door and vigorously insisting my father needed a surgery to remove part of his colon. Dr. Kumar vigorously insisted that my father did not need it and he made sure his will prevailed over the pissed off surgeon. My father did not have surgery and he continues to do well. In other hospitals that I have worked , I have seen doctors who might have let my father have the surgery rather than anger a surgeon and risk losing business. (those docs were not in Austin thankfully). I have seen Dr. Kumar risk missing an important flight in order to take care of a patient who was delayed. There are other stories like this. I have seen other reviews that suggest he comes off as cold. He is actually a very nice guy once you get to know him. But in the office, he is all business. I wanted a true professional who would be MY doctor, and that is what I got with Dr. Kumar. He did my egd/colonoscopy last week and it went very well. Make sure you get the propofol only anesthesia instead of the "conscious sedation." I remembered nothing about the procedure but I was awake and alert within 10 minutes after it was over. No nausea or confusion side effects like you get with the conscious sedation.

My Aging mother is visiting from IN. She started having a lot of digestive issues. We went to the ER etc and followed up with Dr. Becker. So far we have had timely attentive care. I was impressed with his kindness and concern.
