Review from Minx A.
San Francisco, CA
Um, wow. This place is stellar.
After a grueling trip from San Francisco, I landed in a room I reserved (not at the folk house) and found that it was flea infested. I couldn't find a new apartment to rent at that very moment, I just needed a place to sleep that night. It was late at night, I was tired, and sad, and my husband booked me at the folk house after I called him crying from the side of the road in a bad part of town.
I got to my room at the folk house, plopped down on the beautiful bed and cried tears of joy.
It was only the next morning when I woke up to the sweet smell of cinnamon and coffee that I realized how cool this place was. Amazing coffee, great staff (I arrived after breakfast was over and she immediately offered me left overs!! Awww.) great video selection, great (austin guide) books. I thought that my austin trip was in shambles after the flea place! But now here I am, on the free wi-fi, sitting bare-foot outside on their porch, eating a homemade cookie and watching the sunset. Glorious. For this price, I'm never going to stay anywhere else. -

Based on my suggestion, my boyfriend decided to reserve a room at the Austin Folk House. Rates are surprisingly cheap. Located at the west side of UT campus (I think that's what my bf said), the amenities are great: our room besides having a clean wooden floor, had a soft king-sized bed, a prop to put luggage on top, a wooden closet with an iron inside, hangers, etc, wooden drawers on the side, lamps. The bathroom (which I am a sucker for) had a bathtub with the usual shampoo and showergel, but also conditioner and bubble bath gel, and a mirror as you shower, whoa! There was a hair dryer, hand lotion and liquid hand soap, as well as bar soap by the sink. And they provided robes. Yes, robes. I was impressed. If you leave the awesomeness of the room, you will also find cookies by the foyer, ready for the taking, under a glass case, and water in the dining area just in case, as well as stuff for tea and the like. Supposedly scrumptious breakfast is to be had in the morning (this is a B&B, after all), I could certainly smell it from bed, though we didn't get up early enough. There was also a VHS library. Yep. Old school. It's like staying at a gracious person's home. Very nice change from a regular hotel, at even less the price. So I am convincing boyfriend to come back here. Or maybe Star of Texas which is a sister company. Then again it might not be as awesome. But if we were to go back and book a place in Austin, the Folk House definitely tops the list for now.
