I LOVE Austin Dermagraphix! I got my first tattoo there (not my first, but first one at this shop) on a Groupon deal. Jon Austin Mackenzie (sp?) did the first one. He's a great guy with great skills. When it was time for some more ink, Jon had gone on hiatus, but José came recommended and had a good portfolio. Wow! The guy is terribly underrated, or at least he was before. I now have two tattoos done by him and I plan to have him do at least a few more. I've had work done by a number of artists in town, but José will have done more on me than any other artist by the time we're finished.

The shop itself is very clean and has lots of room. It's well lit, the sofa in the waiting area is comfy, and even the bathroom is clean. At a tattoo shop? Get out! Really.

I haven't had any piercings done there, but Kasey is a total sweetheart and if I were to get any more piercings, I'd have her do them without question. Amy, the owner, is really nice. I know that one or two people said they've had negative experiences with her, but I know she's a no-bullshit straight shooter. No one can be sunshine and lollypops all the time.

Back to José. The work he does is impeccable. He's a perfectionist and it shows in his work. The detail in the two tattoos I have by him so far is fantastic. He listens to his clients. You can go in with a drawing and he may change it and make it much better. That's what he did with my two. The first one, I went in for something pretty simple, but he wasn't going to have that. He totally changed things up and I'm damn glad he did. I frequently get stopped by people to ask about my tattoos and almost every one of them zoom in on the first one José did on me. If they don't focus on that one, the other one by José gets their attention. He's aces with black and gray or colour.

Sorry it's taken me so long to do this review, José and Amy.

    Friday the 13th + $13 tattoo's + $13 piercings = mid life crisis in full swing!
I went for the Fri the 13th special because you just can't beat a $13 tattoo. The problem with most other shops offering $13 tattoo's is you have to choose from a list of already designed tat's and all have to do with the number 13. AD allows you to have any tat you want as long as it fits in a 2x2 space. I brought in a pic of a shamrock and it turned out beautifully. Jose has a light touch and it barely hurt at all.
While I was waiting I started talking to the piercer (Kasey) and told her that even though I have some extensive tattoo's, I am terrified of piercing. She assured me that 1) I am not the only tat'd person that feels that way and 2) the pain is not that bad. So I said let's do it and proceeded to get my belly button pierced. I was shaking when she started, but she kept talking to me and helped me relax a little. She got ready, I felt about 3 seconds of burning pain, and voila, done!
OK, so my only problem this time. I checked in at 3:30 and I was not started on until 10:30. I was the last person they did. I feel like some people may have been taken in front of me that arrived after me. I was prepared for a long wait, but 7 hours made for a very long day for me. It was nice that they let you leave and come back, but it was still a very, very long wait.
Still, overall, I'm a happy camper. Thanks Jose and Kasey!

So my origanal tattoo artist, John has left. Now I see Jose. He is fr@&king amazing! I cannot stress enough how good it is to have someone as talented as this guy do your tattoo work. I got a limb thingy that I looked up on line and he made it his own. Next I found an abstract scorpian that he did the same with. He is awesome! My favorite tattoo ever! I cannot stress more how I love this place! Go here for tattoos and see Jose!

They had a "Friday the 13th $13 tattoo/piercing" special going on.
I called in advance to see if there was a lengthy weight or not, as I live a distance from the shop so it's a drive for me to get out there.. And, I was bringing my co-worker and his friend to also get tattooed or pierced, not to mention, I have other things to do during my day. The woman who answered the phone PRETENDED to remember me from my earlier tattoo at the shop, it turns out I had never met her. Rude. Anyways, she said there was relatively NO WAIT. When I arrived she told me that the wait was "2-2 1/2 hours" (to accomplish 8 peoples tattoos? yeah right. Even small tattoos have to be set up for, the artist has to clean his space, draw the tattoo, make a stencil, apply to skin, and THEN start tattooing...) THEN this same lady who fake remembered me at the front desk was ULTRA rude to me and the friends when I mentioned that I had called earlier. I currently have a tattoo from Jon McKenzie and it ROCKS. Sure wish getting in the shop and onto his table wasn't such a dramatic and ridiculous event. If you can avoid everyone else at the shop and work ONLY with Jon McKenzie, you'll have an awesome experience. I wouldn't complain but I've been upto this shop for work 4 times, and 2 out of 4 times SOMETHING went wrong costing me either hours of my time, or a huge headache. Stick with Jon. Thats all I can say.
