Although our hedge ended up getting a friend for a hedgehog-sitter, I had contacted Gerry first, based on all the great reviews. This review is based on our conversations and his willingness to work with us at the last minute.
I'm a little sad that Gerry isn't watching Auggie because he returned every email and every phone call promptly and politely. We asked him for a last-minute booking, and we was very willing to work with us. And despite the fact he had never hedge-sat before, he was enthusiastic about the opportunity to spend some quality time with Auggie hedgehog.
We got an offer from a friend that we couldn't refuse, and when I called Gerry to cancel (again, last minute) he was very sweet and understanding.
Great response, a pro all the way. No doubt this is reflected in how he interacts with animals. I hope Auggie and we get the pleasure of meeting him someday. -

I am so happy that I discovered Austin City Paws. When I travel I always feel so guilty leaving my dog at a kennel where she has to be crated and has less personal attention from humans. That's not the case with Austin City Paws! My pup gets to stay in the comfort of Gerry's home, where she is safe, cared for, and not crated. Gerry is very professional and kind. He makes a point to really get to know your animal and all his/her personality quirks, etc. BEFORE he takes them into his home. My dog seemed like she had a great time staying with him and I will continue to use his services in the future.
Another note- they are very affordable and they offer pick up/drop off service for your animals and that is very helpful! -

This is a safe bet; Austin City Paws will take great care of your animal.
The owner, Gerry (pron. Gary) Harmon, is an animal lover and great pet sitter. The process goes something like this: Gerry will visit your home a week or so before you leave, to make sure that a) he knows where everything was and b) you're not some sort of horrible pet abuser that's leaving him with Cujo. Once all is approved on both ends, you'll settle on a price and pay in advance for the first round of appointments (it seemed shady to me. I was all, "Um, that's not how this works. I'll pay you when I come home and find my cat alive and meowy." But he explained that advance payment ensures that you're not going to cancel him the day before you depart, leaving him hanging without work for the next week. It's legit. He's not going to take your money and ignore your pet.).
Then, depending on how much updating you've asked for, he'll send you texts to let you know your animal is alive and happy and occasionally pouncing on stuff. He'll also rotate your lights, get your mail, water your plants, and handle anything else that needs handling while you're gone. You'll come home to neatly stacked mail, a well-fed and super-stoked pet, and a note from Gerry letting you know how it all went.
Gerry's prices also drop incrementally if you ask him to come over more than once each day. He's flexible and can usually squeeze you in if, like me, you wait until the last minute to call. I suggest talking to him via phone, rather than via email. -

We used Austin City Paws for the first time this past weekend. They're fabulous and very affordable too.
I read a review here saying that someone's pets acted like their owners had never left, when they came back from their trip. We had the same thing happen!! When we came back, they were like "Meh, you again". I usually get more of a reaction when I get back from the store, much less a few days away from home!
To me, the lack of angst and worry from my dogs is a great sign of the wonderful care that Gerry took of my furry kids. We got to enjoy a worry free vacation, knowing they were cared for and safe, and my dogs got to spend time snoozing on my couch, not in a kennel. Win and win!!! -

I love Austin City Paws! I've used them numerous times to feed, water, and "litter" my 2 cats when I'm out of town. I always come back to find my cats are healthy & happy (although they miss me, of course!) Gerry really cares about the animals he is taking care of -- he cares for them like they are his own! He is great at following up and if there is any doubt as to whether you are back in town to care for your pets, he will double check and make sure they are cared for. AWESOME service. Do use them!

Just wanted to say that we have used Gerry several times now, and each time we come home Baxter (cat) acts like we never left. He's been available on short notice, and he's been patient when we made the check out wrong. He also asked about an injury my cat sustained before the last time Gerry saw him (cat injured himself on MY time, not Gerry's) when we called three months later. The man has an elephant's memory. He always leaves a note letting you know things went well, and we come home to a happy kitty and a clean litter box!

I made last minute plans for my Christmas week and obviously couldn't find any pet sitter and then I find out about Austin City Paws.Gerry was just awesome with both the dogs (one golden retriever the other lab mix). When he came over for consultation, both the dogs responded very well. He always kept me updated how the dogs were doing. My trip was just peaceful! Once I was back from the trip, the dogs behaved as if I never left. I would definitely recommend Gerry to anybody who is looking for a reliable pet sitter. I am definitely using him again!
