My boyfriend and I just moved here from Houston about a month and a half ago, and so far I love Austin City Lights.

I read the reviews and I admit I was a bit nervous but we have had no problems. The walls are a little thin but you can't hear the neighbors unless you really try to!

I love laying out at the pool or renting a movie, the management are all very nice and friendly (and they all already know my name and what apartment I live in!).  But I am worried about the rise in apartment prices from the new management (the only problem I will face next year)

Don't live here if you have kids. Or a real job. It's a keg party every night. If you call the courtesy officer about noise, they never respond. It's an absolute nightmare. Even if you ask your neighbors (spoiled college types) to quiet it down, they are outright rude and ignore you or swear at you. Right now it is almost midnight on Monday and these jerks are still yelling, drinking and laughing as I write this review on my patio waiting in vain for the non-existent courtesy officer to call me back so my kid and I can sleep.

I imagine it's equally frustrating for people who have real jobs. If you have both, definitely look elsewhere.

The pool is nice but is usually crowded with really rude people who throw their cigarettes and beer cans everywhere. They have to close the pool to clean it really frequently since it gets so gross so quickly from all the partying.

There are far too many "compact car only" parking spaces so your car ends up with tons of nicks and dings from huge trucks that have nowhere else to park.

The fitness center has two treadmills. One has been completely non-functional for at least 3 weeks. One sort of works, but makes horrible noises and they've known about the problem for at least 3 months. They know they don't work, but apparently it's not a priority. The elliptical machines are a joke. Really poor quality.

The intercom system for the gate entry is often not functional.

Only nice things i can say: Building maintenance is very good, quick and helpful. The landscaping is nice and it's very pet-friendly.

I pay FAR too much money here for the negatives to so outweigh the positives.

My wife and I just moved here from DC and I have to say that it's a wonderful place.

    Positives:
I'm very impressed by the upkeep and maintenance of the grounds and facilities; if you mention that something needs attention, the maintenance staff are there within a day.  The pool and lounge area feel like you're at an upscale hotel instead of an apartment complex. In general, all the staff are very courteous, professional and helpful.

    Minor note:
We had a minor issue on the date of our move-in, but this was quickly resolved by Martin.

    Summary:
You should definitely consider this place. The staff are very proactive and when a problem arises it is quickly attended to.  They genuinely seem to care about the residents living here.

Well, I must love it here because I will be renewing my lease this week.

I continue to enjoy it here.  The location is convenient (plus I live near Hot Yelper #1).

If there was one complaint, it would be parking.  If they designated one parking place for 1 bedrooms and two for the 2 bedrooms, that would rock.  All the visitors are taking up spaces, so it's hit or miss if you'll park near your building.  To combat this I am now leasing a garage.  Seriously though, that is the only gripe I have.  I am sure I would have the same complaint at most places.  So it's not doing to drop them from 5 stars.

Again, I'll add-- now that you know where I live, please don't stalk me.

    Updated - 1/6/2011

I thought I updated this already.  Oops.  I ended up leaving after my lease was up.  I loved my apartment and the management was great, but the tenants around me were making me crazy.  I lived in the building by the pool and it was like a frat party every weekend and most weeknights.  I tried to be patient and remember what I was like in college...Then when some kids moved in across the hall from me, it just became unbearable.  There were about six of them living there (against the rules, of course) and fought and partied all the time.  I'm a pretty patient person, but I called the cops about five times on them.  One night, a drunken friend of theirs tried to get into my apartment.  He turned the knob and upon discovering it was locked, started ramming into it and yelling for some girl.  I was sitting on my couch scared and not knowing what to do.  So...I did nothing.  He asked another neighbor who came out who lived there and my neighbor said he didn't know.  Finally, the girl he was looking for came out of the apartment across the hall and he started yelling at her about something or other.  She kept apologizing saying they were all getting high and she didn't hear him.  I called management the next day and asked for an apartment in another building; the one furthest from the pool.  She said there weren't any and wouldn't be any when my lease was up.  About a month later I found another place and when I gave notice, they were practically begging me to stay.  They offered another apartment far away, which made no sense because when I asked there was none, suddenly there was?  But it was too late.  So they tried, and I wouldn't say don't live here, but my experience was poopy due to bad neighbors.  So if you're quiet and have a real job, stay away from the pool.

Oh, and a sidenote, that apartment was the first place I had ever heard my neighbors having sex.  I don't think they were being particularly loud either.  So beware of thin walls.

I think this is a great place to live! Big closets, lots of storage, new appliances, garden tubs, and movie rentals. Ask for Martin--he always goes above and beyond to help out. The location is only about 10-15 minutes to downtown, and has many convenient stores/liquor stores/grocery stores nearby!

One bad thing. Late fees for rent. I was out of town once, and when I came back, they wouldn't let it slide. I get it - I need to be on time. But for someone who has paid on time every other month and is a good tenant, they didn't call to check on me - sucks.
    Also, the walls are thin.

We're about to renew our lease. We are adults with real jobs and a family lives across the hall. I understand from going to the fabulous pool that college students live here, but I've never encountered a noise problem. I've always felt safe here, any problems I've had have been resolved right away, and the treadmills in the fitness center work. One didn't for a while but when I went a couple of weeks ago, I ran on it. They also provide brunch once a month. I'm really surprised at the stories of the Negative Nancies on here, as I've had a good year with this complex. Trust me, there are far worse in South Austin.
