I'm serious here. I felt really confident in the miracle of birth and that this was the place I wanted to break in the old lady so to say.
Break out your whiskey and leather straps this is natural childbirth here folks, it ain't for pussies! But the birthing center will help you convince yourself you are making a good choice, which you are!

I had great prenatal care, and the best midwives. Although, I wished they weren't so busy and that they were sometimes a little bit more sympathetic to my nervous pregnancy fears.
Some days were great, other days seemed a little off and rushed. The receptionist was always great and she should get a raise because I think she convinced me more than anyone else to come here.
The birthing suites are being renovated, and every woman I talk to hopes that she gets the "good " suite when she goes into labour..  So I know they are working on that. It is all together a really nice and calming environment.
I think of Roswitha as the tough and honest midwife who prepared me for battle with a steely eye and a firm German accent.  She also returned my nether regions into a the beautiful work of art that they once were. so god bless her for that. She didn't even flinch when I screamed at the top of my lungs in agony, she remained focused and dedicated. god bless.
Lauren was my sweetheart midwife, she helped me deal with all of my fears with care and she was very patient with all of my fear of needle hyperventilating without rolling her eyes.
That said, I think maybe next time, if there is a next time, I will probably go with a single Doula or midwife since I would feel more comfortable narrowing down the choices of who gets to see my precious goods.

Can I give an update just so that I can add another 5 stars?

Stats:

Baby = Here, healthy, happy!

Staff = Fantastic, and now privy to my privates.

Even though I had the longest birth pretty much ever, I will go back to AABC for another baby and recommend them to anyone expecting!!

I have only one kid so I don't have much to which I can compare my experience but I will say that I am very glad we used AABC.
They gave us a tour. They patiently answered and re-answered my questions. They treated my husband like he was part of the process. They worked with us while we were in various states of insured-ness.
No drugs or anything. Healthy baby. One stitch for me. They gave me my space and coached us through. Awesome.

I will not deliver here.  I personally know that the turn over rate for all staff is very high.  The assistants are under-educated and should NOT be watching the families after birth alone.

My family is truly grateful for this place. Including our oldest who got to put jelly on my belly everytime we visited. Even our in-laws were amazed with the place after beinf skeptical at first. It was truly a wonderful experience and after our second it was a no brainer to go back! All the midwives were fantastic! Lauren so sweet and cheerful her sense of humor and love for life helped us get through the difficult visits. Roswitha ruled each visit with compassion and an iron fist, she stated things factually we concentrated only on the things we knew and put the 'what ifs' on the back burner. Jenny was so caring and easy to get attached to, it was no secret that she had my best interest in mind and was glad to show my mother in law around to pacify her nerves. Then there's Joan my rock! She was amazing! She comforted me, encouraged me and never interfered in my labor. She made suggestions, helped rub where it hurt, and also created a soothing birthing environment. Having a baby here is like having a baby at the Waldorf, you are riding 1st class!! The treatment, care and love is second to none. Don't get me wrong there are tough love moments but those are easily forgotten. If you are on the fence go by for a visit and see for yourself. The only drawback is that it is pricey but check with your insurance they covered most of ours. Been there 2 times with 2 different kiddos and would do it again just to go back!!

I'd have to agree with everything positive the previous poster reported about Austin Area Birth Center. It's AWESOME and THE place to go if you want a natural birth experience.

I do, however, have to disagree with her one one of the midwives. I saw Jenny throughout my pregnancy and was so happy that she was the one on call when I went into labor.

Jenny is a wonderful midwife and very caring person. I really enjoyed my prenatals with her (and the other midwives too!) and throughout my labor she was very helpful. I am absolutely thrilled that she was there to catch my son and wouldn't have it any other way. I'll be forever grateful to Jenny for helping me through the most empowering thing of my life!
