Jimmy Wilks was great! Go see him!
I had been out of the Austin rental market for a while, and he did a great job of explaining how/why rental rates had changed so dramatically. Then, he helped me find exactly what I was looking for...fast and easily.

I just received a response from the person evidently in charge of this Apartment locating service... as well as the locator in question: Fernando Tovar.
This person's explanation only carries weight if Fernando's lies are to be believed. Yep. He lied if he denied any of it. And I did NOT ask for any "list" of available apartments. I simply called on one of his ads and, upon asking questions about specific apartment ads in his name, he chose to get testy, as if my questions about his ads were out of line. Huh? So, yeah, he hung up. I was shocked, to say the least.
Anyway, I did find a great apartment with a different, albeit PROFESSIONAL apartment locator. I am NOT saying that the locating service that Mr. Tovar offices at is full of bad locators. Only Fernando.

The lady that I was suppose to meet that day called in sick and set me up with someone else. Well, what happened was I really called her that morning for help with directions to find out that she was sick. I won't mention her name. The other lady who helped was alright.
My reason for one star:
All I want to note is that these people want to move you in no matter your situation. Keep that in mind. That's how they make money. So if your slightly unsure about getting a place because it's out of your range and their databases turn out next to nothing, they'll still push whatever they've got. They don't have offices so it's easy for others to eavesdrop. Before I could escape, two of them surrounded me and were saying that I should move in to a place and not wait. Very uncomfortable in retrospect.

Lisa Waltke IS AMAZING! She was so efficient and listened to EVERYTHING I wanted and found a place that was far beyond what I thought we could afford with our budget, She understood what I wanted and went above and beyond, I highly recommend her! She helped us find the most amazing place we could have asked for, not only is the apartment INCREDIBLE, but the staff and the tenants are amazing as well, all of our neighbors are so friendly and nice and the complex is really family oriented, everyone of our neighbors who has kids are super nice and their kids are awesome and treat my kids great, everyone gets along so well, and the people who don't have kids we hardly see so it works out in every way imaginable. We ended up with the best section of the entire complex, there is a little cove of trees with a picnic table right outside our apartment and the kids can all play without me feeling scared of some gangsta hood homie coming up and snatching them, not that i leave them out there alone, I am always with them but I don't have to constantly gaze at them in worry. I love this place, we will definitely be here for at least 3 years. AT LEAST. The swimming pools are amazingly clean and soooooooo nice, I feel so lucky and blessed to be here :)

These guys work hard to find a place that's perfect for you...I worked with Erika Goetz, she was super nice and listened to me, which is most important when you're looking for a place to live. I mean, you are gonna LIVE there so you want someone to look for the things you want, not what's going to make them the most money. I recommend. It's SO much easier when you have someone else looking for a place, I hate moving and finding a new place.

How has no one mentioned David York? He is my go-to guy for the right apartment. I've worked with him twice, and just got off the phone with him to start search #3.
The first two times I worked with him, he spent all day with Hot Boyfriend and I on very short notice, and went above and beyond to find us a home that fit our expectations and needs. Like all apartment finders, he does all the calling around for you. He talks to leasing agents at apartment complexes, goes to look at the apartments with you, points out things you might not notice, and handles everything. For us, David York also thought outside the box to find us an affordable place with a great kitchen and in a certain part of town. When we go to look at apartments with him, he really listens to our concerns and criticisms and takes those into consideration-- we only had to reject a galley-style kitchen once, and we never saw one again.
This time, we've given him more warning, so he's in really close contact with me about my next home. He's a friendly, smart, professional, and personable guy-- give him (or any of the other apartment finders, it sounds like!) a call! Wendy Pearman is spectacular! She will work with you in whatever price range you can afford, but will be honest with you about what you will get for the price. I truly believe she does her best to find the best option for you. I'm super stoked on my new apt.

Patrick always gets the best deals. He has helped me and last least 10 or so friends of mine. He's just a good ol' boy with a great knowledge of the Austin area. He managed to get two complexes fighting over who got us the better deal... Long story short, we ended up in a fantastic apartment at a great price!

I just moved to Austin, and thanks to Windy Pearman with Apartment Specialists we were able to find an apartment I love in a great location! She was very nice, helpful and very patient. A pleasure to work with, and she knew exactly what I was looking for! Kudos to David York. He really fought through the crap apartments with us to find something we really liked. The one we eventually chose was the one he'd had in mind for us from the beginning. A stand-up guy who takes his job seriously. Patient and kind, too.
