Review from Lauren K.

My kitty's tooth fell out. He ate fine, seemed perfectly normal, but that tooth had mysteriously disappeared. We took him to see Dr. Lara Kreyenhagen at Aurora Veterinary Hospital and made our choice based on the Yelp reviews.
Dr. K was very thorough and kind and sweet to Ivan and he was quite relaxed with her. She determined that the tooth had indeed just fallen out, probably due to a gingivitis-pocket or something, and the gums had closed back over very quickly. Because Ivan had no pain or swelling, redness...etc, she said she didn't think it would ever be an issue and that he was very healthy.
When i asked about water additives to keep his teeth healthy, she mentioned thatsome OTC additives didn't have the best ingredient ( the one they had there did.) Since I already had some at home, she wrote down the active ingredient in the one they recommended there and said I should take it home and compare before I bought a bottle at the vet.
Bottom line- really appreciated the care with which my pet was treated and the way the Dr. didn't try to stick me with excessive costs. I paid $55 for the visit and was really happy. The last reviewer says she saw cheaper places on Yelp, but I think $55 is pretty darn good for a check-up. As another reviewer said-don't be put off by the shabby outside... the people inside are great and it's a nice clean place. -
Review from Vivian H.
I chose Aurora Vet because it has the top reviews on Yelp in Seattle. Five stars, and 80+ reviews. I didn't shop around for prices. Only the best for my baby. I'm glad it's close to where I live.
I picked up my Golden Retriever puppy at 8.5 weeks of age. The day before she turned 9 weeks, I brought her to Aurora Vet and she was seen by Dr. Lara Kreyenhagen. She was about to vaccinate my puppy until I told her I was following Dr. Jean Dodd's vaccination schedule and that my breeder did not want her vaccinated until at least 9.5 weeks. She had no problem with that, but did suggest she get a third set of shots, even though it is considered optional. She didn't tell me if parvo was indeed common in Seattle, but since it is a big, dog loving city, I agreed to give Molly the third set. I liked that Dr. Kreyenhagen was very thorough. I had told her that Molly had her eyelid scratched by a litter mate before I picked her up. I told her that there was no damage to her eye or cornea and the breeder's vet had prescribed eye drops and that I had indeed noticed that her eyelid was getting a lot better. Dr. Kreyenhagan wanted to check her eye anyway to confirm. I was also nervous because Molly had not had her first shots and the Dr was sure to let me know that the counter was sterilized and the scale had been cleaned before putting Molly on them.
A vet visit is $55, and vaccines cost about $33 a piece. Fecal test is $20. Based on what I've seen on Yelp, I know there are other places that are way cheaper. So far, the appointments have been on time. -

Having practically just walked in the door from the vet, the reasons I love this place are top of mind. First, Dr. Bernstein. We've seen other Aurora vets over the years when he was booked and they are all really great, but we have a soft spot for Dr. Bernstein's thorough attention, compassion, and kindness.
He delivered "the news" that no pet owner wants to hear twice in the past few years and helped us navigate options and timing with incredible warmth and patience. And when fostering our new pooch (our first pit bull), he invited us for a meet and greet to help us decide if we were the right family for her (we were! we are!) and start the relationship on a friendly, positive note. He always considers the cost when talking through treatment plans AND he doesn't make me feel like a whacko pet owner when I call (again) at the end of the day to ask just one more question. Huge plus!
The location is super convenient and the staff are wonderful - more patient than I could ever hope to be on the phone, warm and welcoming in person. And really, who could DO the job that these people do and not be depressed every day? The folks at Aurora Vet can. Seriously, your critters will thank you. -

Both of my cats have now seen Dr. Casey Sowell for their annual exams, I couldn't possibly be happier with the experience. He was very gentle with the cats...especially my little grey tuxedo girl (who is all STRANGER DANGER).
He definitely takes his time performing the exam and is very thorough, takes his time with what I think are silly questions but he answers them with a smile and ease.
I see another review saying they charge DOUBLE what other vets do, I call BS. This is the third different hospital my cats have gone to in the last five years and their prices are almost identical. -

I've been taking my pets to this clinic for going on 20 years now -- at first just because they were right down the street, but now I drive from Capitol Hill to see them. Dr. Evelyn, Dr. Lisa, Dr. Casey, Dr. Bernstein -- I've seen them all except Dr. Lara, and they're all wonderful. They've compassionately put my old and my sick cats to sleep and left me plenty of time to say goodbye. They've lovingly teased and played with my puppy, and referred him to knee surgery when he injured his patella. They are just the best. Office staff is consistently warm and polite and they've even dealt understandingly with the time my crazy mom had to bring in her Jack Russell for eating a whole bar of Theo, and the time she made an appointment, got lost, ended up at another vet entirely, and never called them back. I'll stick with them as long as I'm in Seattle.

We have had the best experience here with both our dog and cat. Our spaniel got into a fight with a raccoon and had to come in w/o an appt on emergency and he received such excellent care and surgery the same day - even though they were booked solid. Dr. Bernstein is wonderful and the charges are very fair.

Just took Toby our Bichon puppy to the vet for the second time. He was there just for a shot, so we did not see a specific doctor. However, Jenna (who did the shot) was excellent!!!! She was so patient and asked me if I had any questions. She showed me how to clean Toby's ears and cut his nails. Throughout the visit, a couple doctors passed by and were very friendly. Still deciding on which doctor we will choose as our go to doctor for Toby, but it will definitely be a doctor from Aurora Veterinary Hospital. -

Before you choose this place, I'm asking, no, BEGGING you to shop around.
This place is aimed at a middle to upper class clientele who don't have the time/care to shop around for a better price. With that in mind, know that they charge almost double (way over double in some cases) for all services. They don't tell you about the $55 exam fee that applies the second you walk in the door. Also after I left they called and left a voicemail to say that I owed an additional $34 for "the swabs" they had used. and then they quoted me $600 for an aural hemotoma incision. Look it up. MINOR ear surgery. I took my poor kitty elsewhere and got it done for $300.
Last but not least, was the up-selling. This was so ridiculous, as the first thing I said when I walked in the door was "I have very little money to pay for this". They said I should get a dental cleaning during his ear surgery ($275), a catheter to monitor his heart rate ($120) supplemental anesthesia ($80) and about 2-3 other up-sells that I didn't even understand.
While I was there a poor woman came in crying to collect her dog's ashes. I can't imagine how much they overcharged her to put down/cremate her poor dog. It made me sick to the point of writing this review. To put it lightly, they are capitalizing greatly off the misery and vulnerable emotions of people when it comes to their loved ones (pets). To shame. -

Love this vet! I read the reviews on yelp and decided to take my 2 dogs here. They have always done a really fantastic job, they generally are on time with their appointments, and best of all it is fairly cheap! I was paying a lot more at my former vet that I didn't like anywhere near as much.
Top notch! I'll definitely keep going back. -

Don't be put off by the location or the outside appearance of the building - this is THE place to go for top notch vet care in Seattle. And I don't say that lightly, given how much I love my pets...and how much you love yours.
A friend suggested I bring my dog to Aurora Vet, since I wasn't thrilled with the service I was receiving at another pet doc. That was in 2004, and I have been a happy patron/patient for the last 7 years.
Why are they so good? In short, excellent pet care! In addition to being courteous, respectful, professional and downright nice folks, they are staffed by some of the most compassionate and trustworthy veterinarians I have come across. I cannot say enough nice things about Dr. Andrew or Dr. Lisa, both of whom have treated my pup over the years.
Other important tidbits: they can often fit you in on short notice, their rates are completely reasonable, they are upfront about costs, they never pressure or try to upsell services, they have on-site parking and separate entrances for dogs and cats (important if you have a big dog who likes to chase kitties). Also, their staff is friendly and helpful, and Rebecca is the bomb.
Truly 5 stars, and then some. Two paws up! -

I have no idea why this place has so many good reviews.
I have to say my experience here was VERY different than most of the reviews here.
I brought my 7 year old min pin here for routine shots and check up.
I was quoted $55 for the appointment. I thought that was going to be what I paid total. Nope. That is just the cost of the visit. The shots are all billed separately. I ended up paying $120 out the door.
I am used to paying $65 in DC for this appointment!
During the visit the Vet that we saw was very nice, but they took my dog into the back for the shots. I have never had this happen before, my last vet just did them there in front of me.
Not to mention this place is TINY and they were doing a consultation with some owners that had to have their dog put to sleep IN THE WAITING ROOM! For all to see and stare at this poor crying couple!
Later that night my dog started limping and was in a lot of pain in his right front leg.
He was in so much pain that I couldn't even pick him up!
He has NEVER had this reaction to a shot before EVER!
I called the number listed for this office and it just rang and rang. There is no answering service, and more importantly NO EMERGENCY ON CALL DOCTOR!
I called a local emergency vet and asked their advice on the situation and they answered my questions and made me feel better.
We had also had a teeth cleaning scheduled that was going to be $304 + additional for extractions if necessary for the following week. I have since canceled this appointment.
When I called to cancel the guy on the phone didn't bat an eye when I said that we had a bad experience.
He just said he would cancel it and if I needed records sent anywhere to give them a call.
Poor customer service, Bad form, Expensive, Inefficient, No after hours support. NO GOOD!
There are many other places that would do a better job for less $$$ and frustration! -

My sweet little kitty needed a vet... Time for some shots and a neuter. We chose AVH based on easy location to our place and word-of-mouth reviews. Our little dude saw Dr. Lisa Newton who was absolutely fantastic with him. Either (gasp) she actually loves kitties or she is a very good pretender. I'll take either. Not only did she treat our kitty as we do at home, she also was easy and enjoyable for us humans to talk to. All around best vet experience yet. Highly recommend. All the vet techs were awesome as well. Thanks AVH!

I LOVE THIS PLACE, I have been coming here for 5 years with my dog and now I also bring my cats here.
One particular visit really stood out for me, Dr Bernstein is fabulous.
My dog collapsed at the dog park and started trembling and vomiting, I was so afraid, I brought her in and didn't originally see Dr. Bernstein, I saw some DVM for cats, who told me that x-rays for my dogs chest weren't needed, not believing her I went to another DVM in the vet clinic Dr. Bernstein, Wrigley was laying on the floor trembling and I was in tears thinking she'd have to be put to sleep, He told me to take those x-rays, I did... Low and behold those x-rays were VERY NEEDED, she had pneumonia and her lungs were full of fluid, he in my opinion saved my dogs life. I am so grateful for him.
I love the office cat who likes to make calls on the fax machine. =) -

Took alot of time with my dog, really listening to my concerns. I was definitely impressed. They did not try to sell lots of tests or services to me which was a nice change. They did a great job. Kinda pricey but worth it.

I picked this hospital based on yelp reviews. I couldn't be happier... I've had a puppy that's been in and out of the hospital / vet's office and she's 6 months now. The doctors ARE ALL GREAT. Chloe has seen them all (my frenchie). I always feel better when I leave that place knowing my pup is in good hands!
Chloe love Dr Sowell :-) -

I took my dogs to Aurora Veterinary Hospital after bad experiences with two other vet clinics that pushed extra vaccinations and tests, left me waiting in exams rooms for up to an hour with no explanation, and charged an arm and a leg for not-so-great service, but were near my house. Aurora isn't local for me, but after such bad experiences, I realized that getting the right care for my little dudes was worth the drive! Their Yelp reviews are unparalleled by any other clinic in Seattle that I have seen, so we made the switch.
My husband and I saw Dr Casey Sowell and he was kind, attentive and really took his time to listen and ask questions about our dogs' health. We asked him several times if there were any vaccinations or tests he thought we should run in a somewhat deliberate attempt to bait him into upselling us, since we'd had this problem so much in the past, but he never did. We spent about the same amount of time with Dr Sowell that we had spent with other vets in the past, but somehow it felt like we had a much better more in-depth discussion.
After the initial exam we brought them back to have their teeth cleaned. We paid about half of what we had been quoted at our previous clinics and got happy, healthy dogs back at the end of the day.
Trustworthy docs, friendly staff - highly recommended! -

So I have a very dear-to-my-heart bratty kitty that I took in for an annual check up. I called to schedule a new patient (I guess in the vet world she's a patient) and was greeted by a very friendly receptionist.
I arrived at my scheduled appointment time to then be immediately directed to an available room (wow, DVM's apparently know how to keep on schedule...can you relay some advice to my MD?) and within 5 minutes the vet (Casey) came in. He talked to me first while my feisty kitty calmed herself down in her cage. When we finally got her out he was gentle with her and kept me informed of what he was assessing which I really appreciated. He took her back to get her vaccinations while the whole time I can hear my vocal kitty swearing at him with her hisses and growls, apparently he knows what he's doing cause he came back scratch free.
When he came back I was completely mortified and apologized for having to deal with such a stinker! Her behavior didn't even seem to phase him cause he knew exactly how to handle her! He finished by asking me if I had any questions which was great because most medical appointments they are pushing you out the door because they are so behind.
I was in and out in 30 minutes with all my questions answered. My total came to $87 for the visit ($55) and vaccination ($37). OK, so it seems like a lot, but as a physical therapist my company charges $55 for 15 minutes, so I can't complain that I was charged $55 for 30 min. -

Time and time again AVH never lets me down. Anytime I have any questions about what to feed my dog, when I should switch food, wondering why he wipes his face on the floor after eating...they always have precise and knowledgeable answers. They are always willing to answer any questions and if they don't know the answer they leave a message for the Vet to call me back.
I truly do appreciate having such a wonderful staff at AVH that can help guide me through the puppy years with my sweet Mochi.

This place is really a class act.
I needed a fecal done for my dog for him to be allowed into doggie daycare up here, and checked Yelp for advice on where to go. Initially I called the place nearest my house and was quoted over $100 to "probably have results by Monday." If anyone has seen my eyebrows, by the way, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know- they shot up past my hairline at that quote and I've not seen them since.
The next place was also close-ish to my house and quoted $38 to have results to me the next day. A decent bid, but they were part of a chain I've heard negative things about, so I kept looking.
Drawn in by a 5-star review, I checked out Aurora, and I must say, they earn it. Not only is the place in very good repair, well laid-out, and staffed with friendly, knowledgeable people... The same test I was quoted at $100 and 3 days from that other place wound up costing me twenty bucks, and was completed inside of 15 minutes while I waited and chatted with the staff. Big, big thumbs up. -

It's been 4 months since our beloved cat passed away, it was an emotional rollercoaster losing a family member who had been in my life for 15 years.
I'm sure one of the harder parts of working at a vet clinic is dealing with walk-ins with seriously ill pets. Our cat had survived for years w/out a single health problem and a move across the country. The veterinarians here were sympathetic and helpful in all the right ways. She counselled my wife and I for the best method of treatment and, in the end, by giving us the facts so that we felt we were able to make the right decisions. No matter how difficult the circumstance.
The way the AVH handled our case deserves 5 stars.
Update: It's taken awhile to move on, but as of 1/23/11 we have a new furry friend recently adopted from the Humane Society. AVH continues to impress, not even blinking when I requested NOT to use the exam room where my friend and I said our last goodbyes.
We feel our cat is in good hands. -

This is by far the best vet I've ever had. I saw Dr. Casey Sowell (he let me call him by his first name, so I may forget how to spell the last - pronounced like SOUL), but I've heard that all the vets are wonderful. The staff knew my cat and I by name and spent countless amounts of time on the phone answering my questions, soothing my fears and helping me figure out the best course of action. Dr. Casey himself left me detailed messages about my cat's condition, potential condition, etc.
Pros: They have a separate entrance for cats and dogs (on opposite sides of the counter) to avoid problems. They always answer questions and phone back with detailed messages if they can't get to you right away. Wait time was minimal. Cost was low. Care is EXCELLENT. They're certified by the American Vet Association. They're open until 6pm on weekdays, so you can phone after work with last minute questions.
No cons.
My story:
I originally went to this vet after a terrible experience at another vet, aware that my cat needed a tooth pulled, terrified to undergo the procedure (as she was almost 14 years old and the evil previous vet had been concerned about a possible heart condition that made anesthesia unsafe), and looking for routine vaccinations.
It turns out that I paid the least amount for vaccinations and checkup that I ever have (I think the new patient/checkup fee was only around $55). And I met a vet that put my fears at ease.
Over the next few weeks, after Casey had assured me that that pesky tooth HAD to come out (and showed me the proof), Casey and other staff spent countless times on the phone with me discussing payment options, discussing necessary procedures and why, and helping me calm my frazzled nerves.
They understood from the get-go that my kitty was my baby and that I was completely torn between trying to make her as happy and healthy as possible and the threat of losing her.
We eventually scheduled a full cardio workup, where they had the specialist come in (I didn't even have to trek to another vet!) and the price was down-to-the-penny the cost advertised.
After that, we scheduled the actual tooth extraction and they spent the next week putting up with my fears and concerns. On the day of, they let me sit with my kitty until it was time for her to go in.
They gave me a low estimate and a high estimate for the tooth extraction (and possible extra extractions) and talked me through each decision to be made. I ended up telling Casey to go ahead and do what he thought was best as we were trying to keep her under anesthesia for the minimal amount of time. But they did offer to phone me before they did anything extra.
In the end, the Casey kindly took off a benign cyst that had been concerning me (but not enough to pay to have it removed) and didn't charge me "because it was quick and easy and I thought it was for the best". I think he knew that money was a huge concern and, given the cost of everything else, he did me a small favor that made the WORLD of difference. Somehow, miraculously, the price ended up being below the low estimate, even though she was higher risk and had to have fluids and monitoring. When I phoned to ask, they explained that they didn't charge me for the actual tooth extraction because it was so loose that there was no need.
They phoned me as soon as she was out of surgery, reassured me that everything was fine, helped me get her out to the car, and put up with my three phone calls the rest of the day when I realized I didn't really know what to be concerned about or not. (They walked me through aftercare, but I was a little dazed and overcautious anyway.)
My kitty healed quickly and easily with no complications. The price was far superior to any other vet I had looked at, and the quality of the care could not be beat.
This review makes me sound neurotic, but I'm okay with that if it helps you know how awesome this vet (all staff and Drs) is! My point is that they understood that it's hard when you have an older pet, they know that pets are family, and they never made me feel anything but normal and appreciated when I phoned. Even though I'm sure I had my crazy cat lady moments. -

Now how an indoor cat gets fleas is beyond me, but Mogilny did! (the name of my favorite hockey player if you are thinking to yourself 'what kind of name is Mogilny?'
I called Kelly on a Friday morning as our cat had little scabs and we treated for fleas 2 weeks ago and she got us in 2.5 hours later. When we arrived we were almost immediately placed in a waiting room. The vet tech's were very nice and took his weight and couldn't get over how handsome Mogilny was (he takes after his father) - although the vet told us he needed to lose a bit of weight (he takes after his father)
Anyway, Casey (the vet) was extremely helpful, polite, respectful, and compassionate. The price was $55 for the visit and we decided to get a flea comb and $31 flea meds but he didn't push any purchases or products. It was nice as he was more concerned with taking the proper course of action rather than selling products.
Would recommend this place to anyone in Seattle who needs to go to the vet to take care of your little one! -

We recently added a new family member to our house of cats. Her name is Maeby (Fünke) and she's an 8 month old chocolate Pomeranian. Do the kitties love her? Not even close; but we do!
That's why we did our research on Yelp before choosing the proper vet in our new part of town for Maeby.
We found Aurora Veterinary Hospital and decided with all of their great reviews that these folks would be the right fit for us.
We made an appointment to have Maeby spayed, microchipped, and receive her final booster shots. We brought her in and had a great consultation with Dr. Bernstein who asked all the right questions and then walked us step by step through what would happen with Maeby throughout the day. We dropped her off at 8 a.m. and got a call around 11 that her surgery went well and that she would be ready to pick up around 4 p.m.
Her incision healed super fast and there's barely a scar. She was running around the house the following day. Two days out and she was desperate to get outside on a walk. We followed Dr. Bernstein's orders and waited at least a week before taking her out on a walk.
The microchip, shots, and spay (as well as the pain medication) set us back about $350. I'm considering growing out all my body hair and practicing my barking so I can get away with such inexpensive health care if/when I get sick.
P.S. Their office kitty is super sweet! -

When we adopted our adorable little dog bodhi last year we turned to yelp to decide on a vet. We figured yelp rarely let us down before and I kinda need reassurance when making major life decisions and all the great reviews for Aurora Veterinary helped to point me in the right direction.
Our dog has been adopted multiple times, so I would imagine he has a fear of vets because he thinks he is being given up again. So naturally he is scared, and cries and pees everywhere whenever we take him to te vet(or even the groomer, for that matter). Everyone at Aurora Veterinary though are very kind and patient with him, even putting up with the massive amout f fur he sheds.
Our most recent visit was with Dr. Bernstein, who is fantastic! He was patient and explained everything and listened to him and didn't say we needed extra tests or medication. He was also very quick. We got into our appt early, and he did a great job of taking care of our sick little boy when he needed to stay for a urinalysis. He called us promptly when he was ready to go home and they called the next day to check up on him and tell us more about the results of his tests.
Sure they are my only experience with a vet here in Seattle, but i have no reason to ever go to a different one! -

I have switched vets a countless number of times while living in the Seattle area. Looked up vets on yelp and found AVH.
In short I love them. . I loved both vets I saw and appreciated how much time they took in checking over my dog, reviewing all symptoms and making sure to get a complete picture of his medical history.
My dog has issues with ear infections, most vets just send me off with some drops and dont bother to actually do a culture on his ears. Vets here took the time, and made sure I had a prescription that would ACTUALLY WORK.
My dog is also very wary of strangers, and new vets are always an issue. I told this to a vet at another hospital once, and he completely ignored me, immediately bending over and grabbing my dog by the face. My dog tried to bite him, and I didnt bother apologizing as I had told him he's very scared of strangers, and specifically asked him NOT to do that.
The vets here actually listen to me, and all made sure to make my pup comfortable before poking and prodding at him and performing the awful task of temperature taking.
All that being said, the counter staff can be a little short with people sometimes. Its not that they arent friendly, but every time I walk in here they are extremely busy. I came in to get a prescription refilled for my dog and it took quite a while (mostly my own fault for not calling in first). -

I've been taking my pup to this clinic (and to Dr. Robertson, specificall) since she was about 12 weeks old (she's now 2 1/2 years). Overall, I'm a big fan, though there are a few things I'd change if I could.
___
Pros:
They get my dog in fast (it may help that I don't work a normal 9-5 job, so I can come in on weekday mornings).
They've always been incredibly polite and personable on the phone and at the reception desk.
Phone calls are returned promptly, and usually Dr. Robertson calls me herself to let me know about test results.
Dr. Robertson always takes a little extra time before touching my very fearful dog to let her get acclimated.
The techs and the vets wield cookies like nobody's business, and though my dog is too stressed to eat, I definitely appreciate the effort.
Dr. Robertson doesn't tend to leap on medications without cause. My pup's recent bladder infection didn't seem to be causing her any pain, so we waited for the test results before choosing an antibiotic, which saved us from putting our pup through extra meds in her system (the infection was resistant to the default choice), and I was grateful not to spend the money on a drug that wouldn't have been effective.
___
Cons:
I'm kind of an impatient person, and I try really hard to get to my appointments a minimum of 5 minutes early, usually more like 15 minutes. Even though I schedule appointments earlier in the day (less time for things to get backed up), I usually end up waiting 10-25 minutes after the scheduled appointment time.
The last few appointments have felt a bit rushed, a little too "assembly line." After finding out that there's blood in my dog's urine, even after a 3 week course of antibiotics, I'm worried about my hairball. I'd feel better if Dr. Robertson would stay and lay out a list of possible causes and what, exactly they're testing for. Even asking a few more questions to determine if there are some other factors that might be playing a role in my dog's condition would put me more at ease.
Last visit, I specifically mentioned that my dog was really anxious and asked if I could have her wait in the car until the vet was ready to see her, so she'd have less time to work herself into a panic. We went straight into a room and still ended up waiting 15 minutes with her panting, pacing, whining, and shaking. I'd be far less upset about waiting if it weren't so stressful it is for my dog, but after making such a specific request and having it disregarded, I was a little bit frustrated.

As I said, I really like the clinic overall. I'd just like to have the staff be a bit more attentive when I try to prevent my pup's anxiety, and take a little more time to talk me through any issues my dog is having. -

Aurora Veterinary Hospital is the Holy Grail of vets in Seattle.
I was a former Urban Vet person. They were close, they were attached to my kennel, and the vet was nice enough. However, it seemed like every time I went there I walked out spending several hundreds of dollars for basic services, and hearing how many more services I needed to have done (x-rays, teeth cleaning, extensive testing).
I hopped on Yelp and did some research in hopes of finding a vet that only had good things said about them... a rare find... I came across Aurora Veterinary Hospital and figured I would give them a try.
I took both of my dogs in for a basic checkup including urine samples. Not only did the doctor spend a good amount of time listening to my concerns and going through their charts from the previous vet (which she informed me basically gave non-information), but she also explained to me that those "services I NEEDED" weren't needed at all... and WHY.
I walked out of this TWO dog visit spending as much as I would normally spend for a ONE dog visit. AND I really feel like both dogs were fully examined, loved on, and cared for.
The office is clean, the people are friendly, the vets are good, and the pricing is exceptional for the area. -

These guys know greyhounds!
We've been coming to Aurora Veterinary Hospital since we adopted our first greyhound in 2008. Since greys and anesthesia can be a scary combination, it is essential that we find a place where the doctors are all well-versed in how to handle greys specifically.
Every time we come in (LOVE the separate cat and dog entrances, especially with three high-prey-drive dogs) we are always attended to quickly and everyone here is friendly. The doctors are caring and take the time to answer all of your (sometimes silly) questions, and make sure to put your pet at ease. -

After experiencing a few too many lukewarm visits from my previous vet, I decided to take my senior cat to Aurora Veterinary based on the glowing reviews from fellow Yelpers.
Arrived for her check up and was pleasantly surprised by two separate entrances: dogs and cats! The front desk area serves as a divider, but it's all connected in the same space. (Nice lil reassurance for scaredy cats). The ladies working the front desk were very friendly and professional with my check-in paperwork.
Dr. Lisa Newton came in immediately to the exam room after I entered (WHOA)! G'ness, I didn't even have to wait or forced to browse a tattered Feline magazine from 2006. Dr. Lisa did the whole exam, and she was so sweet and delighted to interact with my cat. Hold the press! A vet who loves pets, isn't disgruntled, and adores your pet like its her own? You bet! (I wanted to ask her if she was a unicorn).
Got blood work done, and was told they would call me the next day with results. Low and behold, Dr. Lisa did exactly that. Left me a very detailed message, explaining everything and what my options were. She didn't push for extra tests and lab work that wasn't necessary. That kind of service should be expected, but it's rare when it does happen.
Ample parking space, yes it is on Aurora, near the crackish 85th street and by the creepy motels that should have burned down a decade ago. But hey, the vet office isn't open late night so it shouldn't be a problem. -

After a mad dash from work to home to car to vet, I didn't think I'd make it to Aurora Veterinary Hospital before they closed at 6pm. The Foo was at home, antsy, having gone without his super-special Catkins diet (Hills MD for diabetic cats) for nigh on two meals. I rolled in at about 6:04, and one of the veterinary assistants left his motorcycle running in the parking lot and came back in to get the cat food for me. Yay!
I've been to many vets and they have the best staff I've ever dealt with. Dr. Bernstein has taken very good care of my kitty through a few close calls, and like another reviewer said, they call and follow up (which really impressed The Foo). -

Been taking my maine coon Suzie there for a while now as she's got mega colon. Cat clogs up, cat goes to Aurora Vet Hospital. Great people that work there, friendly and eager to help. They don't charge you for anything you don't agree to and usually will end up "just doing" stuff should it be needed and isn't a huge deal. Their prices are very good for the services they provide. I'd taken Suzie to a vet out in Bellevue once for a "cleansing"; they're so snobby out there she didn't get an enema, she got a "lavage" which apparently means enema plus $300. I'll quit talking about my cats ass now.
Of the few veterinarians I've dealt with there, they've all had a good sense of humor and you can tell they know their stuff. They're also very caring about the animals and talk to them, just makes me feel all the better about taking my animals there. I just wish they weren't so far away from West Seattle, but that is life I suppose. -

I'll write a review about the AVH because I loved it so much, even though we don't go there regularly anymore since my boyfriend works for a daycare that has a vet. My two cats have both been seen here and I absolutely loved the care they got.
My boy, Clarence, was very, very ill one time, having escaped the house, probably gotten into a brawl up the street, and had his ass literally kicked. This left him with a wound near his tail that I didn't notice until the night he was so lethargic and feverish that when I picked him up he just went limp in my arms, freaking me right the eff out. I got him in there first thing in the morning, Dr. Bernstein was very comforting to me even as he told me that Clarence's fever was very high and had me sign a release acknowledging his touch-and-go status with the surgery he was about to have. All the staff there were very sweet while I basically lost it in the reception area. They were not impatient with my calls for updates, they calmed me by reminding me that cats are resilient and that I was not a bad cat mom, and I knew that he was in absolutely wonderful hands.
Once I have a job again (I'm a full-time student and poor as hay-ell) I will likely return my cats to their ongoing care. Highly recommended.Listed in: My Neighborhood

The two furry roommates have been coming here ever since they were tiny kittens fresh from a Humane Society foster parent (now they're giant!), and I've never had a problem with these guys. The staff I've interacted with were all polite and friendly. I'd definitely recommend this clinic to anyone in the area who's looking for a vet who specializes in cats. I'm definitely surprised that nobody's written a review already, to be honest.
The cats have gone in for shots, annuals, and the occasional claw trim until I got more confident in my cat-wrangling skills -- and I haven't had any complaints. The prices seem fairly reasonable, but again, neither cat has had any health problems (long may that continue!).
They have separate doors and waiting areas for dogs and cats, which is great, and their parking lot is easy to find -- but as they're right on the west side of Aurora Ave, it's better to get off early and use side roads since you can't turn left right into their parking lot from Aurora. -

They gave my kitten a free check-up because I got her from a shelter, and I've been taking my other health-challenged kitty to them for about a year. They're much better with handling my cats than previous vets have been. I felt like they were professional, that I could trust their advice (they weren't recommending unnecessary procedures), and their prices are good. I'd strongly recommend this vet.

I'd have to agree with most of the people who have already reviewed Aurora Veterinary Hospital: it's a great place to take your pet for medical issues.
The wife and I recently transferred our pet care to AVH (on the recommendation of a neighbor) as we weren't satisfied with the quality of treatment, the prices, or the staff at another north Seattle vet. The ladies running the desk at AVH and the vet techs are very friendly, very warm and personable. They clearly care about animals and enjoy talking about them. There's even at least one office cat who hangs out up front to warm herself by the printer and chat up the staff.
Dr. Bernstein is also really friendly and helpful. He has made me feel like my cat was his only patient: taking time to explain all pertinent details of my cat's health, answering all my questions, and offering multiple solutions for improving the quality of my cat's life. My cat required surgery to remove a bladder stone, and Dr. Bernstein called me immediately after the surgery ended to let me know how my little buddy was doing, a nice touch.
Additionally, the costs so far incurred have been much more reasonable than they were at my last vet.
In short, the doctors and staff at AVH are exactly who I trust to care for my cat.
To the 2 people who gave a 1 or 2 star review: I'm sorry you had such a poor experience, but your hyperbole has left your Yelp starring-system untrustworthy.
