    Listen, if you need to get pandered to or have your ego massaged or be fawned over like you're the only person in the world, then this place might not be for you.  However, if you want to get your mower fixed by a group of mechanics that could probably fix just about any damn thing you put in front of them, then this is indeed the place to go.

    These guys are mechanics.  They aren't customer service experts and they could really care less if you like them or not.  So before you go, put on your big-boy pants and leave your venti 1 pump caramel, 1 pump white mocha, 2 scoops vanilla bean powder, extra ice with 2 shots poured over the top (apagotto style) with caramel drizzle under and on top of the whipped cream, double cupped frappuchino at home, or at least in the car.

    I've been taking my mower here for years and they've always done us right.  We make the trek from West Seattle to use these guys.  I highly recommend them.

    Gordon is rude and unprofessional. After watching him be rude to an elderly Hispanic man, it was my turn. He refused to look for a gas tank that was upstairs that my father had put a hold on, and instead helped the customer after me.  Then after the tank was brought downstairs by another gentlemen, a third gentlman said the price is actually more than the earlier agreed upon price.  I walked out at that point.  My father returned that afternoon.  The $35 agreed upon price tag had changed to $90.  We found the gas tank online for $25.

    My mom has brought her lawnmower here whenever she needs a new blade or to get it sharpened or fixed. We haven't had any issues with them! My mom purchased an electric lawnmower to go greener so we haven't been back but we recommend this place to people who need their services.

    The process: The Stihl MS280 chainsaw quit running and then wouldn't restart even after half an hour cooling off. When shut off the engine felt hot but not overly so.

    To find out what was wrong with it and get it fixed I took it to Aurora Lawn Mowers at 7323 Aurora Ave N in Seattle for a diagnosis. John, the chainsaw mechanic pulled gently on the starter pull rope and noted with a grimace that the bearings were probably bad. He then asked me to leave the saw with him for a closer look. He disassembled the saw and told me when I returned later that afternoon that the bearings did need to be replaced. His evidence for that was the rope pulley did not turn freely. It had a rough spot. He had me spin the pulley by hand to see for myself. He also claimed that the piston was scored. He had me look in the exhaust port and described the piston's surface as damaged. He stated that the piston should be shiny like the cylinder walls. Finally, he reported that there might be issues with the part of the saw where the motor spin is transferred to the saw chain (in a car I would call this the differential).  The cost of repairs would be about $585. The cost of a new saw, on sale at this time, $499. I should buy a new saw. When I asked they did show me a refurbished saw for only $249.

    John at Aurora Lawnmower is a great salesman and either an incompetent mechanic (he told me he had 17years experience with chainsaws) or a fraud.

    The end result: the ignition coil overheated and needed to be replaced. Bob at Chainsaw Plus in Bothell fixed the saw in one hour. The total cost to me $153.

    41 bucks fixed up my lawnmower!

    Sharpened blades, a replacement piece to keep the mower at the correct height.  Duct tape replaced by zip ties.

    They did a great job and they said it would be ready in 7-10 business days but was ready sooner!

    The people that work here are real characters so take some time to chat with them or at least eavesdrop on them while they work.

    I love this place.

    Unless Aurora Lawnmower calls you on the phone and say "HEY!! We're having a promotion and we want to give you a brand new weed eater or lawn mower and to come pick it up NOW!!" then avoid this place as if it was the plague. I'm serious.

    I brought my Honda mower in last June to get tuned up. It cost $135. I've owned the mower for ten years and never once changed the spark pug. But I had changed the oil like every other year or so. I figured I would finally take it in to get tuned up for the first time since it was built.

    By the way, this mower always - ALWAYS - started on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd pull. Now, it doesn't start. Period. So, is it fair to say it's Aurora LAwn Mower's fault? Not completely. But I figured they would at least take a look and see what's what. No problem, they said. But it'll cost you labor and parts, "But," I said, "I've only used it 10-12 times since I brought it here and it's had trouble starting ever since." No response. "Can you just take a look and see?" No response. So I turned around and walked out.

    And, one last thing Aurora Lawnmower: that old bundle of joy with the Amish-cut beard? You know, 60+ mechanic that wears a 40 year old sweaty hat, with the attitude and demeanor of a jar of rotten pickles? Yeah, his time has come. Get it? Seems like he would rather be tortured than be of any service to anyone. And you may consider using one of those pressure washers on him because it's apparent he hasn't bathed since the Reagan administration. Seriously, guys...he's disgusting.

    Oh, and to give you a tiny bit of credit: there's a girl, dirty nails and mid-twenties, cute and personable: you were on the right track when you hired her. She's cool and cares. Although, I'm pretty confident she got her personal hygiene tips from Uncle Dirty  Lid.

    Everything else re: your establishment? Blow it up.

    I've been using these fine folks for years, and one thing still rings true, they do a bang up job, and give you an honest estimate on your mower, even to say if it's not worth fix'n.

    Just a few months ago I took a gas powered poll hedge trimmer here, as I dropped it off the repair guy, whom I never can remember his name, we'll just call him Gassy-Gary, told me that they were not an authorized Echo brand repair shop, I knew this and I told him the "authorized" shop down the hill won't even look at my gear!

    Gassy-Gary, with his oil/grease stained hands and petrol-gas cologne odor coming from his coveralls is a testament to his long hours put worth in making things right.

    Sometimes the counter service can be gruff and seem in a disarray, but keep your cool and you'll be glad you did.

    Prices are decent, quality work is assured, lack of parking in that general area is a pain, hence the reduction in stars.

    worst place on earth.
    rude, criminal, and they obviously don't care about customers.
    i brought in a weed-eater for warranty repair, and called a couple weeks later to see if it was fixed.  they told me they lost the paperwork, and asked me to call back another time.  i did, and was told they found the paperwork, and would proceed with the repair.  after a couple more weeks with no word, i called again, only to be told that they wouldn't send my weed-eater to the manufacturer for repair because it wasn't worth the time and effort, since they weren't performing the repairs themselves.  the repair guy, "dave" i think his name was, then threatened to throw my weed-eater out if i didn't come pick it up right away.  i left it with them.
    believe me, you're better off buying a new mower than trying to deal with this joke of shop.

    They did a great job sharpening my ancient push mower - they even cleaned it up, Definitely not a yuppy magnet (do people still get called yuppies?0, but these salt-of-the-earth guys know their stuff. It took about a week and cost about thirty-some dollars. Cool and interesting place too, with about a million mowers of every possible kind (for sale, I guess) parked out front. They've been in business forever too; just the kind of local business I like to support.

    Everyone there is very friendly and even though the line is often long it moves pretty fast. They found the parts I needed for my mower and the one time they even suggested & sold me a used part that saved me quite a bit of money.
    They have the cheapest price on sharpening the old style rotary mowers out of the three places I checked.  I am very happy with my mower since I have it back.  Apparently it needed to be adjusted too, it cuts like a dream now and I am less likely to use the gas powered mower.  My only complaint is when I received the mower back it was grimy and greasy.  I am really glad they oiled it but the entire handle was slimy with oil and the wheels looked like they rolled in through a puddle of grease and motor oil.  It took my 10 minutes to figure out how to transport home without getting it all over my clean trunk and in the meantime ruined a pair of slacks.  A warning and an offer of a few paper towels may have been appropriate.

    This is an old fashioned, unpretentious place that gets it done.  I don't know how in such a small space...lawnmowers everywhere.  You won't get cheated, over charged or "sold."  They have parts cheaper than the companies online that make the parts!  Again, it must be the low overhead and guys who just seem to know and love mowers.  I've purchased from them for years and it's always no nonsense and good.
    As far as the neighbor who gripped about a box of paper on her lawn fro these guys, think about it.  You can put all the paper tags and boxes you want out for free recycling.  Why would they knowingly  put it on somebody's lawn?  It makes no sense.  Probably some kids or somebody thought it would be a fun thing to do or a joke.

    I recently took my very simple, human-powered, reel mower to them for it to be sharpened.  As far as I can tell their sharpening was fine, BUT ...
    ** The mower wasn't ready until about 18 hours after they said that it was to be ready;
    ** Upon pickup, the mower blades were to have been oiled.  They weren't until I mentioned it;
    ** Upon returning home I discovered that one of the two "hubcaps" of the mower's wheels was missing;
    ** I telephoned about the missing hubcap.  After a little looking the hub cap was found and was to be set aside for me;
    ** After arriving to pickup the hubcap, it couldn't be found by the first employee with whom we spoke.   Although we gave him a perfect description, he said in an unhelpful way that there was no way he could find the missing hubcap without seeing the matching hubcap.  Another employee overheard the conversation and recalled seeing the missing hubcap.  She saved the day; and finally
    ** (perhaps worst of all) Upon first using the mower the roller which lifts the mower blades off of the lawn fell off.  Apparently, it had been removed during the sharpening process and hadn't been properly reattached.  Fortunately it was easy to reattach.

    Bottom-line:  I'd suggest finding someone else to do your lawn mower work.

    I've been going to Aurora Lawnmower for years, in spite of the terrible parking.  There is a heavyset fellow who has always been very kind and professional.  When I was buying mowers (yes, plural - I tried a used and an electric before I went for new gas-powered), he was great at advising me on what would best suit my needs.  I got a mower I really like, and because of this nice fellow, a very good impression of the business.

    However, I went in yesterday because my mower wouldn't start.  The guy with the unfortunate facial hair (an Amish beard gone very wrong), was so incredibly rude to me, my recommendation is hanging in the balance.  He treated me like a complete imbecile and gave me that "you're a woman and don't know what you are talking about" tone that I haven' t heard since the 1980s.   When I asked him to listen to me while I explained the problem, he argued with me.  He did everything but call me "little lady" and tell me to go back to  the kitchen where I belonged.  I brought the darn mower in because I'm the one who uses it!

    I'm still giving it three stars because I have had more encounters with the nice guy and the otherwise fine staff who are fair and courteous, but I will NEVER deal with this man again.  His name is Jim and he behaved like a complete ass.
