This place was special enough to warrant a posthumous review. The atmosphere was great, baristas were cool and laid back. It was kind of a gothy nerd hang out, and one of the first cafes in Seattle to offer internet terminals. I wasn't goth exactly, but definitely a geek, so I didn't feel out of place here.
I feel sorry for those who did not experience this little joint before it shut down--Aurafice was everything that Seattle used to be. These days it is much harder to find original and quirky businesses in this ever homogenizing universe... -

Are they closed? For realsies?
So sad, this place was my fave when I used to visit Seattle! Could be cause I'm friends with one of the Baristas, but they also had the most bomb-ass chai I've ever tasted. Hot chocolate was also decent.
Wifi was free with purchase, Art was always lovely, and there was always a place to sit. Bathrooms were like in what felt like an underground tunell a thousand years away, but damn.
Loved the atmosphere, and I didn't actually get the goth vibe at all that people are mentioning. Baristas were friendly and very unlike other hipster joints. So sad to see it go! -

I have gone here quite a few times and never have the baristas been the least bit nice. They have alright coffee, and interweb access. They also have board games here in case you wanted to spontaneously challenge someone to chess or Scrabble but don't have a set of your own at home.
Some nights, they have ambient, downtempo, or psy trance here. And depending on who's playing, it's pretty decent. The downside is that when they are having a music event, it'll be so packed that you won't want to go inside. And that's if you LIKE ambient/downtempo/psytrance. -

One star for the internet. One star for the nostalgia-inducing industrial beats. One star for the very spicy chai latte. One star for being open christmas day. Minus one star for the shitty bench along the wall, but one star back for the pleasantly dark vibe and the not entirely awful photographic art on the walls.

The coffee really is kind of bland, but the prices for the computer usage is REALLY good. They have excellent customer serivce though ;)

I've had some tasty americanos here and their spiced cider (apple juice, chai and cinnamon syrup) is delish. I actually find the attitudes of the baristas a nice change from the seattle spectrum of uber hipster snarky to uniformed business friendly baristas that I have to adjust my attitude to when I walk into a cafe. I'm a customer and they are working a job. The reality is never mystified by some performance of community building or special treatment of an 'inside' clique of regulars.
I also like how the techno industrial goth exterior doesn't determine their patronage. -
