    Lunch Review:

This is the best Thai food in the neighborhood for lunch.  This place is small and tables are limited.  I would recommend coming not more than 4 people and you shouldn't have problem getting seated quickly.

Lunch Special comes with spring roll (or appetizer of the day).  This hasn't change in my numerous visits.  As most thai places, you can make most dishes with vegetable and tofu.  However, I would recommend Pad Kea Mao - a little spicy but delicious nevertheless. Pad Thai is also another favorite at this place.  I am not a big fan of the curry's at this place - they taste delicious but seem a little thinner than most curries I have had.  Top it off with a Thai iced tea on summer afternoon.

The biggest plus about this place is their quick service.  You will be in and out of this place within 30-40 mins - with fresh food and stomach satisfied.

Now I don't think I've ever rated a place this low, I usually don't have the heart to do it. Today is the day that THAT will all change, folks.

I just started a new job and was in a mood to have some wholesome Thai food. Usually I have the awesome luck of finding a not so expensive place, but getting a not so expected surprise of good food... Not this time.

I arrived 5 minutes after it was due to be picked up (my job is a minute's walk away) and by  the time I got upstairs my Pad See Ew was stuck to the container something fierce, like you couldn't pick up just a few noodles with a chopstick. I began to think my chopstick skills were getting rusty and then I remembered I took Japanese from second grade, I've been eating non sticky rice and other foods that do not require chopstick usage because I was THAT infatuated with them as a child.

Unfortunately I was so hungry  that it didn't even matter to necessarily warm it up more to see if the noodles would breakway and I was certain it was going to taste so delicious, I wouldn't even care.

Lies, lies and more lies. It was nothing like the dark, sweet but not going to die of sugar shock sweet that I'm used to from other Thai places. It was light, too sweet and drizzled with some nonsense that I'm certain made it taste worse. I was starving which I thought would lapse my judgement and make me believe it was a gastronomic phenonmenon, but alas I still thought if was gross and will never again pick up Thai food from there.

I give them two stars because I seamlessly ordered from http://seamless.com and it was ready by the time I got there, but other than that, good riddance.

I'm not a picky eater, I promise you all. I will eat anything, just not Aura Thai.

Pros:  Happy hour ($3 beers), yummy Thai Iced Tea,and tasty Larb.

Cons: SLOW service.  My friend had to ask for another beer three times - it never came so she just went directly to the bar!

My friend who is not a Yelp member yet asked me to post this.  So below comment was entirely from her words.  She didn't say much about their food because the service alone plus the 18% gratitude inclusive bill is already to make their food tasteless.  I seek to check out this place myself one day and write another review about it.
My friend wrote the following via Text message so kindly ignore grammar mistakes and typos.

When customer gets upset about the service, the 18% is negotiable. The total is calculated based on top of the tax then adding 18% which make customers even more dissatisfied. When a group of 6 stepped in,  despite waited for 15 mins, we spot there were 4 seats available in a 6 people table. 2 customers were just seated. The waitress can make seat arrangement by asking two customers to another table. Instead she let us wait. After we gave her the suggestion, she questioned back "Can you wait?" with attitude. Food were served late, one of my colleagues waited even the rest almost finished theirs, her dish came extremely late and we can tell the waitress was confused and left her out then came back to her to reconfirm the order . Whatever we asked for, cups, forks..we waited and kept remind her. She didn't seem rushed at all. Maybe a polite apology might make the customer feel better which never happen. At the end, 18% tip incident maximize our dissatisfaction. Waitress claimed 18% is mandatory for a party of 6 more, it wasn't stated on the menu, the manager came to explained and we express how upset we are about the service. She then re justify the bill.

Thanks for reading this.  You've been warned!  If you have party of 5 or more, watch out for the mandatory tip included in your bill.

I got delivery from this place through http://delivery.com. Ordered the drunken noodles and was pleasantly surprised. The taste is as good as any other not-too-bad and cheap Thai place in the city. The ingredients however were fresh as hell. Maybe it's just me but, I have never had such fresh beef and veggies in my delivery meals ever! Will definitely order from this place again, seeing as my brain is now wired to think that delivery is healthier if I order from this place as opposed to from anywhere else.

I was pleasantly surprised by this venue since some of the reviews were pretty bad. But we decided to take a chance on it anyway since it was conveniently located to all parties.

First off, happy hour! The wine and beer was 50% off. You never know what you're going to get when ordering a glass of wine in a restaurant that isn't known for their grapes. When red wine isn't a highly trafficked menu item, opened bottles are often many days old.

Well, the waitress actually brought over little thimbles of wine to make sure we liked it. The first wine tasted very grape-juicy so she brought us another! This was above and beyond the call of service. The second wine was much better.

I ordered the Red Curry with chicken and a side of sticky rice. It was spicy and delicious!

The portions are not huge. As we left I ogled the platters on the table nearest the door I realized that I was still hungry. I would recommend ordering an appetizer or two.

Decent Thai food, attentive service. I've tried most of the noodle dishes there, not too bad. Not sure about their curry though.

They are going to open the Thai cafe next door, which is good news. Look forward to trying other food items from them.

Eeehhh. Came here for lunch and I was disappointed in the lack of variety in the menu. Anyways, we had the pad thai and the noodles with beef. The beef was good but maybe I should have ordered another kind of noodles because the one I has was veeeery sticky and gooey. The other plates look better perhaps next time I'll order something else.

I came across this Thai place from nearby work. I was starving and it was a cold day so I went with the soup option.

As I unwrapped my lunch and I started eating, I was hoping to be in heaven but instead I dropped down to hell. This place looks so cute and inviting but once you get  to eat your food. You now know thats looks can be scheming. Never again, will I order food from here.

Came here for an extended lunch with some coworkers. It was just a 5-10 minute wait for a table. The restaurant is well lit and the tables are not too crowded.

I ordered the Pad Kee Mao. It didn't come with a lot (maybe because it was a lunch special?), but it was pretty good. All my friends also enjoyed their meals (one got something with green curry, and the other got something I don't remember).

Not overly expensive, but not cheap either. Go for the lunch specials and you'll be golden.

Like the iPod Nano and your IRS refund check, Aura Thai proves that good things still do come in small packages.

Located in the barren wasteland of the 9th ave/30s area of the city, this tiny - maybe 26 total seats - little Thai spot is a shining star that projects hope.

BEST tom yum soup I've had in NYC ($3.95).  Perfectly spicy, delicious broth, and I go with the (3 ample-sized) shrimp.

I'm guilty of getting the SAME frickin' thing every time I go: the Chicken w/Cashew Nuts.  The chicken is sautéed with dried chili and its mixed with onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, scallion and cashew nuts in a light soy sauce.  Ask for the hot sauce and your nose will be delightfully runny.  At $8.95, this oversized plate is a steal.

My office is right next to The Garden, so this is the one place that actually motivates us to walk 9th avenue for lunch.

It does get busy during lunch hours, so get there before 12:15...and don't expect to linger unless it's a slow day or its during non-peak hours.  The staff won't rush you...but the ravenous people waiting for your table to turn over will!

I think the only word that can describe this place is meh.  The boy, myself, and his mom came here for lunch fairly late one weekday.  The staff didn't great us, didn't seem to want to seat us, didn't take our order seriously (if you offer a lunch special and that lunch special has two choices for "appetizers" then you damn well ask us which one we want rather than us having to bring it up ourselves), and were very lackadaisical about the whole situation.

The food was fine. I've had better noodles, better tofu, and better curry elsewhere, but it certainly wasn't the worst and at least their lunch prices were decent.  Three stars.

So, I have this thing about things being a waste of stomach space. Tonight, everything I got at Aura Thai was a waste of stomach space. After reading the reviews, I was hoping I'd be on the side of those praising the food, hoping that the bland accusers just had some insatiable taste buds. Dios mio, I was wrong. Everything about it was bland. I don't eat cute animals, so the duck was completely off the table (though I know that was most highly praised per reviews). The fried tofu was just incredibly bland hunks of tofu. Even with the sweet chili sauce, it was bland tofu dipped in chili sauce.

I decided to take a risk and not get the pad thai, siding with the Rama dish with chicken (sautéed meat over steamed vegetables with peanut sauce). Another epic fail. It was a peculiar, seemingly confused dish. The steamed vegetables seemed out of place in the dish and the water from the veggies and peanut sauce made for a slight mess. Even pouring on the sweet chili sauce (which I had to pay $0.50 more for since she'd already taken it from the table) could not fix teh bland and teh fail (again boring food dipped in chili sauce). And to add to the peculiar, the server was quite the songbird. She brought out my tofu, singing about it: "here's your tofuuu!"

Odd and overall disappointing. Though that's also partially my fault. I really wanted to go to Wild Ginger in Chinatown but wanted to save travel time. Next time, I know not to play.

Meh. I wish this place was better. Has a decent lunch deal but the tofo pad thai was blah. The lunch special came with a fried veg dumpling, wish they asked if i wanted it fried or steamed but sadly you don't get that option.

    Overall, a bland experience.

Truthfully, my experience was between "Meh, I've experienced better" and "A-OK."  It was okay quick lunch, but I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to come here.  Perhaps if the lunch special was a dollar or two less (it's $8) I would feel more comfortable with my three star review.

I asked the waitress whether she preferred the pad thai or pad see ew, and she said she liked both.  Well alright, I do too.  So I was forced to make up my own mind (sometimes I hate doing that with food) and I went with tofu pad see ew.

The pad see ew was prepared adequately, but that's as much as I can say for it.  I liked my first bites, but soon after became bored.  It was salty, and lacked any dimension of flavor beyond that.  I enjoyed the tofu, but the Chinese broccoli was too salty, as it had thoroughly absorbed the sauce.

There was a complimentary dumpling appetizer, but it was covered with a salty, thick brown sauce which should have been at least on the side (they would have fared better with a vinegar-based sauce).  What was strange about the dumplings was that the first was so hot that I had to put it down between bites, and the second was semi-cold.

Overall, it isn't worth a return trip.  I'll try Royal Thai next time I'm craving thai food in the area.

You realize on the train in to work that you forgot not only your lunch, but your breakfast.  So you grumble, get your bagel, and hit up Midtownlunch and Yelp for leads.

It's really shitty out - the cold November rain that only Axl Rose can describe accurately.  So you decide that you want soup for lunch.

Not just any soup - you want noodle soup.

You don't want to try out Boi because your boss and co-worker, both of whom got takeout, came down with a stomach bug on the same day and were both out of work.  Totto Ramen always has a huge wait and is 15 blocks away.

Then you somehow stumble upon Aura Thai, whose regular Thai/faux-fusion offerings are complemented by either pork or duck broth noodle soup.  You notice that the duck broth soup also has roast duck.

So you place your order, you put on that awesome coat you got that makes you look like Jean Reno or some villain from a French heist flick, the kind that wears a turtleneck or quarter-zip sweater under a black wool coat, the kind who's standing around keeping watch with an Uzi hidden somewhere on his person.  You walk down to 9th Ave listening to "The Light Before We Land" by the Delgados, as you convince yourself you're listening to it because it's an amazing song to listen to on big headphones, wearing a European criminal wool coat, on a cold gray day - and NOT because it's the opening to Gunslinger Girl, an anime you wouldn't otherwise admit to watching.  Sure, you can compare it to Leon/The Professional, but nobody cares about that in a Yelp entry.

You get your food and you go back to your office.  You dump the container of perfectly springy egg noodles, steamed Chinese greens, and bean sprouts into a dark, dark brown duck broth container.  You mix it together and you take a sip of the broth - it's big, just a little sweet, and balanced nicely with dark soy.  You slurp on the noodles and pique the interest of your co-workers.  You look outside at the building across 37th, some garment company, and you look up at the old unimproved red brick.  You look up at the sky and you realize you don't care if there's no ramen within easy walkable distance - you found Aura Thai.

You realize that you can't get better noodle soup in this part of Midtown.  And while that makes you sad, you look back at the soup and it makes you very, very happy.

    Take out-

Bland venue, just like their food.  Got the pat see ew for $8, and they threw in an eggroll w/ sauce.  No hot sauce for the food, though.

Dry, flavorless...I threw some hot sauce of my own but it still didn't save it.  There's too many other thai places out there to settle for this one.

It makes me lean toward walking the extra block past the other 500 thai places on 9th ave to come to Aura instead... and they have a bar area to eat at, if you're not in the mood to take it to go.

Aura Thai is clean, well lighted, pleasant, sane, quiet, relaxing, small. My food was good, nothing unusual. The service was excellent. What's the problem? Lunch time, in and out, standard Thai restaurant prices for the area. I didn't, however, see colors or anything mystical or anything that wasn't there. I've heard about people eating food that is so spicy they see hallucinations, but I'm not really into that. Thai is kind of comfort food for me, and this was comforting.

Lunch special is available daily, not just weekdays.

Went there on Sunday.  Got quite packed around 1pm so apparently it is a neighborhood favorite.

One of the servers really had an attitude... I hope it's just because she is having a bad day...

Duck roll  - very similar to peking duck wrap, with hoisin sauce, cucumber and scallion...
Duck noodle soup  - that everyone has been writing about and glad that I tried.  The soup is a dark broth more on the sweet side.  It tastes clean but yet filling.
Shrimp Pad Thai  - again sweeter than others I had...  I do like the chewiness of the noodles here.
Green curry - quite standard, goes well with rice.

All in was $38 for the three of us so budget friendly indeed.

We were stuffed and they let us stay there for almost 3 hrs just yapping away so much appreciated thank you very much.

When I am in the fashion district area and looking for food again, will potentially come back.

I live nearby so I order takeout a lot and have tried a number of things from their menu. I recommend getting one of their curries or meat entrees. Their appetizers are also pretty tasty all at a decent price (duck roll, curry puffs, and spring rolls are my favorites).

I would stay away from their fried tofu, desserts, and pad thai as they are somewhat bland.

The service is great, and the waitresses are always so nice!

Aura is a great place to order from.

It's well priced and the food is tasty and hot. It is a bit oily - and its not good if you want something lighter or healthier. That besing said, it has great flavor - both the curries and the noodle dishes are solid.

The place itself is in an unfortunate location and it has no atmosphere - but these things are waht make it good value.

My bro-in-law loves to impart his age-old wisdom on love and life at all of the midtown Thai places... and I love to listen....and eat!  We decided to try out a new joint for lunch, but royally learned a life lesson on what rules the midtown (Thai) land.

This place is really 2.5 stars, because the food is really not that great.  In fact, I question what kind of avian creature the "devil hot wings" are really made from, because it sure didn't taste like chicken to me.  (yo, I'm just sayin...) The lunch specials were a little lackluster and I did not appreciate that the only appetizer option was a fried spring roll.  On the way out, here's a little tip from the b-in-law" "Feel free to load up on the onions and garlic, because they have little cups and a costo-sized listerine bottle in the bathroom!" (This got them the extra 1/2 star)

Oh and back to the life lesson: If you are in the area lookin to lunch, just remember Denzel's king kong rule - "Aura Thai ain't got sh*t on Royal Thai!!!"

I really, really wanted to like this place.  It's cute, homey, and the buttery colored walls practically welcome you in.  Well-rounded menu, including some odd Korean and Chinese dishes thrown in for good measure, I suppose.

Unfortunately, the food tries too hard to appeal to the American palate, while losing any effort to provide authentic thai dishes. My favorite dish, Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles) was the worst I've EVER had. The noodles stuck together so that the dish arrived in several balls of noodle with no flavor in the middle. There was a bit of heat, but no hint of savoriness. The spring rolls were all cabbage of the cheapest frozen variety.

Spying on what the staff were munching on, I wished I could've been served what they were eating rather than the Americanized rendition I got.

Aura is an adorable, yummy find. I ate the Thai Garlic Shrimp - a portion so plentiful, it came in a bowl! Delicious fresh veggies, light sauce, and the staff was happy to accommodate my brown rice needs.

Aaah, Aura - I agree with the other reviewer who said it "shines in a sea of mediocrity of restaurants".  The vast majority of the restaurants in the immediate vicinity pretty much suck.  But Aura has good food and a menu that has a few different items than the run-of-the mill Thai restaurant.  Their ingredients taste very fresh and their chicken noodle soups have all white meat. I've only been there for lunch and it's a very popular lunch place.  I've had trouble getting in for a table once, but usually it's not an issue.

From the lunch menu I recommend the Crispy Egg Noodles & any of the Noodles & Brooth dishes.  The Green Curry is very good, but it's pretty spicy so if you are sensitive to that be wary of it.

All in all, a great lunch spot for people who are working in the Penn Station area.

Tucked off the main-line of eateries and business, Aura on Ninth Avenue is a nice discovery of a Thai restaurant that's convenient to Penn Station by foot.

The space is small but even at (mostly) full capacity, it doesn't feel claustrophobic---maybe it's the wide storefront windows that open out onto Ninth Ave that makes it feel more "open space".

One of the first Thai restaurants I've been to where they have duck as a choice for a Pad Thai ingredient--which ends up being a tasty alternative to the usual suspects of chicken or shrimp.   We also had the spring rolls which have the same crisp freshness on-par with other fine Thai restaurants.

Prices are standard Thai---ranging $8-$9 for a basic Thai noodle dish.  The more exotic ones running just a few dollars more.  Bottle beers are $4.75.

Worth a stop-in if you're in/around Penn Station/Madison Square Garden and you're looking for a spot to get your Thai-crave on.

Well, this past Saturday, my girls (fellow Yelpers Brigitta K. and Aly W.) and I attended the NYC ComicCon (located at the Javitz Center). Oh, yes. But first -- we needed nourishment!

We found Aura, and stopped in our tracks. THIS was the place. It is small, it is cute, and the food smelled very YUM. We are small girls with big appetites. We shared a Shrimp Skewer appetizer. After that, I had chicken Sea Ew (my standard Thai favorite). The ladies ate -- more shrimps!! I tried everyone's entree -- everything was tasty, and the service was fast and friendly. Big servings, but not overwhelming (I ate everything on my plate!). Reasonable prices, too!

So the next time you have an event at the Javitz Center, and you think that McDonald's is the only option, think again! Yummy Thai food is NOT FAR AWAY!

This mini-Thai themed cafe is a quaint treat especially for a quiet date or a relaxing Thai meal.  The waitstaff was very friendly and extremely attentive, while the food variety was decent and tasty.

Recommended dishes include the pad thai, massaman, and satay appetizer.  The place is quite small, definitely not a place where you'd plan for a large group to eat.  Prices were inexpensive, much like most other Thai places in the area.  If you wait into the later hours, often times the guys from Burgers and Cupcakes next door will bring some of their leftovers to share with the patrons inside.  Overall, this place is a cute and friendly atmosphere for the all Thai lovers alike.

OMG I love, love, love it here.  Such a reasonable price in this teeny-tiny-west side Thai.  Great Tom Khai Gai soup and great dumpling and summer roll appetizers.

We go here on Saturdays for lunch before hopping back on Bolt Bus.

    Really good food here!

We needed to be near Penn Station tonight, so we got an early dinner here, as it's only one avenue and a couple streets over. We shared the green curry with chicken and the pad thai with beef.

The orders came out really quickly, and they were pretty good. The green curry was pretty spicy - we were a little surprised that they didn't ask us how spicy we wanted it because at most Thai places they ask you, but it was really good. It also came with sliced egg plant, bell peppers, and string beans. I really liked the addition of the eggplant in the dish - it was a nice touch. The pad thai was well flavored and wasn't too sweet like a lot of places I've been to. The sauce was a little more orange than I'm used to, but it was still good and satisfying. Good amount of beef, too.

I think overall I'd give this place 3.5 stars. The prices here are a tad bit higher than at most Thai places, but I suppose the reason for that is that Aura is in a high rent area. We'll be back here if we're having an itch for Thai and need to catch a bus by Penn Station.

Yum, thanks goes to ML for blogging about the duck broth lunch special. I wasn't really in the mood for noodles & soup or for thai food, but after reading that blog I was hooked.

Def. not disappointed. The duck broth was very hearty and the noodles springy. Duck was fatty (comes on the skin) but you can pull off the meat.  I wish there were more vegetables in it, but there was a pretty good amt for those less infatuated with vegetables.

My co-worker got the yellow curry. It strangely enough came w/ noodles and not.. you know rice. He didn't know which noodle he wanted so the waitress went into the kitchen and pulled out a couple of different kinds of noodles. Nice touch.

only giving it 3 stars for now until I go back and try out more food.

I had the fried brown rice with chicken ($8.66). I got 2 free spring rolls because it was lunch menu and I picked up my food kinda late cuz I took take out. Thinking my food was going to be lukewarm and semi enjoyable and I was soo wrong. I got back and popped it open and steam was rising. Score!. Food was great. delicious and flavorful. If i'm ever in the area and want Thai again I know I can count of this place.

I REALLY liked Aura first time going there 8 months ago. Second time more recently, the salad was good but one table spoon too sweet; the dumplings were so bland even my all-purpose balsamic vinegar failed to save them:(

8 MONTHS AGO--now that I think about it, was still before my rollercoaster trip in Thailand. My understanding of "Thai" at the time was yet limited to the tan and the trans.
