I'm sad to see this place go. Admittedly, the service has gotten more hit & miss over my ten years in the slope, especially after they installed the bar and tried to cater to the party crowd, or whatever their intention was with that. I think they began to lose sight of who they were, and you could see that all over the wait staff's faces. Everyone started looking very harried and confused towards the end. Even nasty at times.
But I loved the food and the decor, and I'm sincerely going to miss it. I wish everyone there, owners and staff alike, much luck in their future endeavors. It seemed like they all worked really hard. -

I will miss Aunt Suzie's. I heard their last day will be on 1/1/2012. It's surreal to think that they were around for 25 whopping years in the Slope. I would be so sad if I grew up eating and dining at Aunt Suzie's.
Aunt Suzie's offers reliable, traditional and inexpensive Italian food. The food is good and straightforward. There is nothing fancy about the food, it is just what you expect to get from an old-school Italian place. Even though the prices are super cheap, the quality doesn't suffer. I even ordered from them twice via seamless web and they are super quick. My favorite dish is their chicken parmigiana, which is actually from "the really cheap menu," at $11.90 which includes a free side. When you have a meal at the restaurant, you definitely feel like you're in your comfort zone. -

This restaurant is one of my favorite places to go for a good home cooked Italian meal.
Prices are 100% worth the quality of food. From pitchers of Sangria to home made pasta Aunt Suzies will never let you down. AS is perfect for dates or family affairs. The restaurant its self has a very warming feel and the staff is always smiling. I love the low lights and the wooden tables.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a family vide but with classy date like allure.
I have many favorite dishes. AS really have too many great dishes to list. I personally go to AS at least once a month and as many times as once a week.
AS is defiantly in my top ten places to go in Brooklyn for Italian! -

Its a shame this place is closing down.. Went there for the first time yesterday.. Loved the ambiance food, service everything. Since they were closing down they were pretty much handing out wine for free.. we got an extra bottle besides the two we already consumed..... Had the cheese tortellini w the vodka sauce... was great.. They also had a house salad which was amazing....

This place gets 5 stars for the brunch. Phenomenal. You get so much for your money including free refills on mimosas and bellinis, and there are crepes. Need I say more? Just go. This is not the fanciest place but the Italian food is more than decent (though I would not say stellar). If you're looking for a cheap brunch in Park Slope without a long wait, Aunt Suzie's is always a safe bet.

Review from Valery C.
Its been a years-long running joke with my sister that I'm too elitist to set foot in Aunt Suzie's, and I don't disagree. After all, Aunt Suzie's is solid neighborhood Italian but one that caters to a particular style that simply isn't mine. And now I can say with confidence what I suspected for years because our family came here recently for a dinner to celebrate my mom's birthday.
Aunt Suzie's dining room is small-ish, walls painted in warm yellow, dark pressed tin ceiling, wood floors, and simple wood tables and chairs. It is decorated with ornately framed posters and many old black and white photos of people, with some Christmas lights strung about. A large bar is set in the middle of the restaurant. Although there are small tables, this seems to be the sort of restaurant that caters to families and groups, and it became bustling and very noisy pretty early into the evening. Our waitresses were friendly, tried to be available (although they were quite busy with a large party there that night), and overall great.
The laminated, busy menu is filled with classic Italian staples in appetizers, pastas, and entrees. Not too many surprises here. What surprises is that in this neighborhood, you have pasta dishes that run $9.90 each and "fancy" pasta dishes that run $12.90. And they feature a "very cheap" section also. Portion sizes are decent but not family sized; if ordering appetizers, you may need to double up for more than 4 people if sharing. All pastas offer the option to double up for an extra fee. There were a few specials offered too. Your choice of pastas are spaghetti, fettucine, linguini, and penne. They have a kids menu, and the chicken tenders and fried potatoes was sufficiently appreciated by the toddler in our group.
We got a breadbasket of sesame-crusted bread, butter, and red pepper puree dipping sauce, a pretty nice start. Plenty of water, iced teas for some and they brought us a pitcher of that later on. For appetizers, we shared crisp, just fried calamari (ok but not fresh squid), sauteed mushrooms (well-prepared), and a special grilled zucchini with bacon and mozzarella (excellent zucchini but the accompaniments didn't add much).
Around the table for entrees, we had pasta with proscuitto, peas, onions in vodka sauce (heavily sauced, tasted ok but no depth, and that wasn't proscuitto), linguini in white clam sauce (the best pasta that night but could still use more flavor), Aunt Suzie's combo of eggplant, sausage, and meatballs (meh, meatballs so so), chicken parmigiana, and veal parmigiana (both were ok, unmemorable). If I had to summarize, their pastas are not cooked al dente, the ingredients are not high-quality, and the flavors are fairly one-dimensional. But the portions are fairly generous, nothing was tasteless (i.e., they used enough salt), and nothing was poorly made.
It comes down to your expectation for this sort of food. Yes, I am elitist and I've been spoiled by the flavors and preparations of pasta in places like Marea, Babbo, and Al Di La down the street. But if you're like my sister, who has been to two of those three and still prefers Aunt Suzie's simple, hearty style and prices, you'll like it here. -
Review from Shea D.
With quite a few cheaper options on the menu as well as some good wine to choose from, you'd think the food would be able to keep up, but alas, it was definitely the weak point in our evening. I think I can find more flavor in the bottom of a jar of Ragu sauce compared to what we found in our entrees.
Margot G. and I came by a few weeks ago for a dinner that would allow me to have pasta because I had a 10K race the next morning. I opted for a fairly simple penne alfredo with broccoli dish and she ended up with a pasta dish (I don't remember exactly what) with their "special" Grandma's vodka/meat sauce. To be perfectly honest, both dishes were pretty bland, and with two very different types of sauces at our table, that's probably more than just a coincidence. These are the kinds of meals I can easily and quickly make at home using store-bought sauces and pasta, and I don't go out to eat in order to get the same quality that I can (and often do) quickly whip up at home.
However, they deliver a generous pour when you order a glass of wine instead of a bottle, and you can find somewhat cheaper items on the menu so as not to break the bank if it's two days before rent is due. Also, you receive a free basket of bread before your meal arrives, which is always nice.
Certainly not the best I've ever had, and I probably won't be back. But if nothing else in the area catches your eye, then you probably won't go too wrong here. -

I am kind of reluctant to write this review, because as nice as the people are, the food just really isn't spectacular.
I've eaten there three times now, over the course of I'd say about 2 years. Everytime I go there it's for pasta. I'm not a big pasta eater, one because I always overcook it, and two I'm not a big fan of tomatoes, but, still sometimes I feel like good pasta.
Well, I never really seem to get it. Don't get me wrong it's not bad, but it's not memorable either. I actually think it's kind of overcooked and mushy. The sauces are just alright and I didn't like the stuffed mushroom appetizer at all.
I also didn't think it was worth the money. I'm willing to pay extra for handmade, and superbly cooked pasta, but this wasn't it. for a $15 plate of pasta I expected a lot more. Overall, it seems like a great place for a family to have a meal-nice service, friendly atmosphere, family-friendly food choices, but, it just isn't for me.
If you're a big pasta fan I'd say try somewhere else. -
Review from Mariko W.
I was craving pasta the other day, and decided to do up Aunt Suzie's. Plenty of room, decent food, and especially decent prices! I had the largest portion of broccoli alfredo, and when I asked for chicken, I didn't expect the entire chicken the managed to throw on there for me. :)
Appetizers were pretty good and came out quickly, pasta was good and huge portions. Desserts looked delicious, but considering I brought home more of the pasta than I ate, I decided to pass.
I have also been here for their brunch (buffet style and worth it if you are super hungry). They seemed to have a lot of choices, but if you aren't that hungry, the price for brunch may be a little steep.
Will definitely be back, and it's a great place to go with groups or really hungry boys. -

This place reminds me of going to the Italian grandmothers that I never had. It is decorated with old family photos, white table clothes, and big wooden tables and chairs. You will feel like you are in your families dining room, especially, if your family was in the mafia.
The menu is cheap, there is even a specific section called "the cheap menu". Portions are big, meal is good, and the waiters are friendly. You get a pretty nice bread bowl when you arrive, and I really like bread.
i usually get a glass of wine and a pasta dish. There are a lot of pasta options to choose from, and I have not been let down yet.
The place always is crowded, but I have never had to wait long to get a table. I have also ordered from them and with free delivery, this is a good option as well. -

Aunt Suzie's is awesome. I always go here with my family for birthday dinners or if we're just looking for a night out nearby. The atmosphere is great, really friendly service, family oriented, the neighborhood is fun, comforting. The food is really good and relatively cheap. i recommend the eggplant parmegiana and the chicken parmegiana as well as the chicken in rosemary and balsamic vinegar. you should sign up for the aunt suzie's club thing because you get a bunch of coupons and birthday specials.

YUM! Homemade pasta. Made with all the love and care of the old country!
Everything else could use a little refreshing... but you have to love a neighborhood institution that has something very, very right about it. -

I was very happy with my first trip to Aunt Suzie's tonight; I had suspected that, as a vegan, I'd have to order spaghetti marinara and call it a day, but I got an excellent pasta primavera plus a side of escarole with garlic and oil. My dining partner got jumbo shrimp, creamed spinach, and a side of linguine.
Service was laid-back, and the atmosphere is charming. We're going back next week! -

Great Italian food. One of the few remaining restaurants in Park Slope from my childhood especially on 5th ave. The pasta dishes are inexpensive and delicious. I don't have a favorite dish to recommend so try anything they're all good, but my favorite things on the menu are the stuff mushrooms and baked clams.
The one thing I will say that i do not like about Aunt Suzie's is the bar! I wanna tell the owner to get rid of it. It took away from the home style ambiance that Aunt Suzie's is known for. At least the old family portraits are still there as well as the tables and chairs that one would fine in someone's home. -

I love this place. Good OG Brooklyn style Italian dishes, good wine, knowledgeable wait staff. Warm, homey atmosphere. Good prices, food is always, always, always good! Could use a litle more variety in their dessert menu-chocolate mousse, cheesecake, coffee, etc sums it up, but even so the mousse is YUMMY.
I love this place overall, and it's great for dates, family nights, girlfriend chat sessions, etc. -

What? ... No Sunday Brunch!
Well that's what the waiter told me when I entered the restaurant on a Sunday mid-afternoon. That was o.k. with me because I was just looking for some good home cooking!
I've been here before, many, many moons ago and for me it was pretty good.
I did enjoyed the complimentary slices of bread with the diced peppers and that red pepper dippy stuff, as I placed my order. I ordered the chicken marsala with pasta (off the really cheap menu) and it was delicious! I was tempted to order dessert, but I was really too full.
Service was very attentive and deco was mix and match dining room furniture! Very cozy and comfortable. -
Review from Elaine M.
This restaurant has a very authentic and comfortable ambiance. That's all I can say (positively) about this place. Service was slow. The food was average (at best). The bread and dip that was complimentary wasn't even good. The dip was thin and not very flavorful. Bread didn't taste all that fresh either.
Started off with the baked clams. Meh, small and just full of breading. The Spinach & Artichoke dip was okay. As for the mains, I had the turkey sausage with spinach linghuine and broccoli rabe. The pasta was very doughy. Not al dente like how it should be. The flavors were somewhat bland. Honestly, I've had better cooked pasta at my friends' gatherings. My companion's Chicken stuffed with cheese in mushroom sauce was only ok as well. The side of string bean and potatoes. What was that? Tasted like it was steamed then drenched in unsweetened tomato sauce.
We totally skipped on dessert. Came in for hearty, authentic Italian but we left only half full and disppointed. -

Food was far too mediocre for how long we had to wait. Funny that I've spent my 13 years in Park Slope trying to get to this place and once I was there I couldn't wait to leave.
The service was nearly nonexistent. -

If you are a gnocchi fan, this is the place to go! They make theirs fresh, daily, on-site.
I only ever have the pasta or fish dishes and they are fantastic here, for a good price. The fancy salad is good, too.
One star off because the bread is always stale. -
Review from Galvin C.
Stuffing myself with ridiculous quantities of pasta is basically my reason for getting out of bed in the morning, so this is my kind of place. I usually am even willing to trade up a bit of quality for quantity, but pleasingly enough Aunt Suzie's offers both in heaping amounts. This ain't your fancypants, two-forkfuls-a-serving pasta, no; this is down-home, fat-grandma-pinching-your-cheeks-while-expressing- concern-you're-not-eating-enough pasta. Room for both in this world, but I know what side my giant unhealthy bread is buttered on.
So let's review here: Delicious pasta, and a full-on shit-ton of it at that. Oh, and not too pricey, either. Yup, sounds like four stars to me. Just be prepared to go up a belt notch afterward. -

A bargain Italian restaurant in Park Slope, Brooklyn. I had the linguini with white clam sauce. It needed a little red pepper but was outstanding. This place also serves wonderful salads and bread. I love the lasagna and vegetarian dishes here also.

I went here all the time when I lived in Park Slope. DAMN I miss it there!
The spinach/artichoke dip appetizer is the best I've ever had. The chicken parm - fantastic.
Everything I ever tried here was always delicious. And their prices are very reasonable.
The waiters are all very old school Brooklyn. That's a GOOD thing! -

I have yet to have a bad meal at here. The food, service, atmosphere and prices keep me returning time and time again. It's not the best Italian I've ever had, but you definitely get much more than you pay for when you go to Aunt Suzie's. I recommend the cheesy garlic bread, but really awesome bread comes complementary if you don't feel like paying a little extra. The service is normally really excellent and everyone is really friendly. The one time I ordered the pear salad as my entree, it took a long time to come out because my waiter was new, the hostess noticed and they didn't charge me for it. I just hope the guy didn't get in trouble!
It's like having dinner at your Aunt's... she may not be the best cook, but you feel more at home there than at a restaurant. -

Great place to go with a big group of people. Very nice staff, very attentive.
All you can eat brunch, fill up your plate. Lots of variety in the foods at the brunch...pasta, bagels, broccoli, vegetables, both cooked and raw, bacon, sausages, eggs...pancakes...waffles...made to order as you like, orange juice, coffee, drinks are extra....You definitely get your money's worth here. -
Review from Kemi A.
I'll start by saying that I am not a big fan of italian food AT ALL.
So when I was invited to dinner at an italian restaurant, I wasn't particularly thrilled but it was free so I couldn't' resist.
Only the Calamari was ordered as an appetizer and it was delish. They served bread also with a tomato based sauce. Not sure if it was due to hunger but I enjoyed the bread and sauce a lot.
For my main meal I went for the Gnocchi in meat sauce. This is my first time EVER eating gnocchi so I wasn't sure what to expect. My friends ordered a variety of items (shrimp fortunata, chicken garlissimo& some pasta with prosciutto (the proscuitto dish wasn't well liked by the 2 individuals who ordered it).
As for my gnocchi it was actually good. I think the meat sauce definitely helped a lot. I'm not sure I would have enjoyed it if I ordered it with the regular sauce.
Service was fine, nothing spectacular or extraordinary.
Dessert, I went for the hot fudge brownie sundae...YUM. It's really hard to mess up this great dessert. It went down smoothly....hmmmm.
All in all, it wasn't as bad as I expected. I prob will not return, not because the food was bad but just because I'm not a fan of italian food. I would however recommend the place to others.
It's also a good place to go as a group and service wasn't slow. -
Review from Eve S.
Many moons ago when I first moved to Park Slope my roommate and I frequented Aunt Suzie's several times a month. 5th Avenue was very different than it is now. I had not been to Aunt Suzie's because a friend of mine who I dined with frequently forbid it as an option when we dined out. We spoke about this recently and he insisted it had something to do with an issue he has with dating waitresses. My recollection was that he said the food was like "ragu".
Anyway with so many changes coming and going in this neck of the woods it is nice to see that Aunt Suzie's is sticking with the formula that makes them a success: reasonably priced homey, Italian food.
I almost always order the sun-dried tomato/peppercorn with vodka sauce but this visit opted for spinach and mushroom creme sauce. They have about 15 sauce options and 6 pasta options-I am a penne girl myself.
We did not sample from the wine list but most bottles are between 16-26 dollars.
I had a cannoli and it was good btu not as great as I remember the shell tasted like the oil it was fried in.
Good place for families and large groups.
A solid 3.5 but not quite a 4. -

Went here with my girlfriend on a Saturday night recently in hopes of finding some pasta to satisfy our cravings.
What a disappointment. Upon arriving, we were told 30 minutes for 2. No problem. Returning 30 minutes later, we were told another 20 minutes or so. Not cool. Thankfully we were able to visit Ozzie's next door both times to sit around and stay out of the drizzle. Anyhow, 55 minutes after putting our name in we finally sat down to eat. I don't have a problem waiting an hour, but being told 30 minutes is not good. We were still in good spirits based on the smells coming from other diners plates.
We had some bread and dips (cold sauce, red peppers (these were good) and other vegetables) dropped on our place without a word. Then our server came, took our order, and rarely came back. Any water refills, dessert, etc. were only available after asking other waiters in the restaurant. I'm really not picky about this sort of thing but we had an absent waiter.
The food itself was disappointing. I had the tortellini in vodka sauce with proscuitto etc. and my girlfriend had the spaghetti with grandma's meat sauce. Neither had much flavor to speak of. The vodka sauce did not taste like vodka sauce, it tasted like nothing. The meat sauce didn't have much flavor either. We were so bummed we ended up making our own spaghetti the next night to make amends with our stomachs.
I would have liked to review the chocolate mousse, but they were all out. The rice pudding was decent.
Also, the wine was pretty mediocre. All wines are house wines, which is cool... bottles are dirt cheap ($18 for most). But really, my wine tasted more like old watery Welch's than Chianti. I drank it anyway.
I am holding out hope that the restaurant was having a really off night due to the fact it was in the middle of restuarant week. I can only hope that the other people's reviews are more accurate than mine on average, because this was a really disappointing dining experience. -

Um, why have I not been here sooner?
Seriously, this was EXACTLY what we were craving last weekend and so happy we checked it out. We all wanted the Sunday Sauce and Aunt Suzie's basically feels like you've walked over to your next door neighbor's place for some rigatoni and home-made sauce. They've even set the table for you with a paper doily placemat and fabric (mismatched) napkins. So homey!
Obviously, me and my company were on the same page: PARMIGIANA! I had Eggplant, the BF had Meatball, and the Roommate had the trifecta: eggplant, meatball, AND SAUSAGE. Whoa! I tasted the meatballs and they were di-vine. Just like grandmas.
The side/house salad was really great too - a mixture of veggies and chick peas and kidney beans. Basically, this made me happier than it would for most people, but I LOVE beans in salad.
The wine list was especially tempting with bottles around only $15. Pretty amazing, especially for this neighborhood.
As our people say, mangia!!Listed in: Put the "carb" in "New York"

I stumbled upon this place going by only my nose and my eyes. The place was full and smelled great. I usually use yelp on the iPhone but most reviews on 5th ave are so polarized that I can't trust them.
i ordered one of the promoted pasta dishes which my date did aswell. He ordered the parpardelle in vodka sauce and I had meat stuffed manacotti in cream sauce, more a bechamel. Both were classic Italian-American and well made. The noodles were perfect with a subtle bite and felt handmade. I would come back with a group to try more pasta dishes.
My service was warm and welcoming and not too overbearing or distant. There was a sweet older lady greeting and seating folks as they came in. I'm glad we went in since it was my date's birthday. Can't wait to go back. -

The bread and red pepper pesto was a nice start to our meal. I had the tortellini with peas, proscuitto and "sinful" vodka sauce. I really enjoyed it and the portions were very generous. My boyfriend had the stuffed calamari and the dish came out 10 minutes after mine and the stuffing was flavorless and uninspired. I'd stick with the pasta dishes here and pass on the seafood.

New York, NY
Aunt Suzie's is adorably tacky and it definitely means "home cooking" Italian-style. "Home-cooking" in the sense that you should not expect the finest Italian food on earth, but rather, the idea that people come here to relax and eat carb-heavy comfort food. If you're expecting elitist fine dining, don't bother coming here. Rather, the appeal here is that the entire staff is a little bit crazy, but ultimately welcoming. We particularly like the rotating chatty bartenders and our usual waitress Tiffany, whose wacky Medusa-like haircut never fails to entertain us. Aunt Suzie's real-life niece even works here, hysterically grumbling around the restaurant when she's not taking smoke breaks directly in front of the front door.
Going to Aunt Suzie's is literally like going to dinner at your batty alcoholic great aunt's house: the simplistic menu is all stuff you've had before, but it's good and filling; there's likely to be hearty, jovial people all around you; and there's a good chance that some of the wait staff will be drunk by the time the restaurant closes, if they're not already wasted when they bring you your pasta. -

Straight forward, hearty Italian. Portions aren't out of control huge but there's lots of cheese and sauce in all the right places. My one difficulty was deciding what to order since they have basically every pasta combo ever created spelled out for you...but I'm not complaining.
The festive decor is cute without being obnoxious and the layout is comfortably spaced out. The music threw me for a loop when the same crap top 40 songs kept playing but it wasn't too loud so I guess it could be worse.
Also, the Cappuccino was amazing. -

Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY
My first experience with Aunt Suzie's was what made me come back for more (and more).
We had just spent the day moving into our new apartment and were exhausted, hungry and wanting to celebrate. Aunt Suzie's was warm and cozy on a dreary February night and the place smelled spectacular.
After being seated we ordered a bottle of wine. A bargain for $15 bucks. After joking with the waiter that I didn't know how to taste wine, and was never the person to sniff, sip, and OK the bottle, he actually showed me how to and then explained that if you want to be the taste tester, you have to be the one to order it. Good to know!
Another time, we came by but the place was full so went for a walk and came back 40 minutes later. The second we walked in, the host recognized us from before and seated us before the new line that had formed.
Couples shouldn't be deterred by the fact that it's very family friendly. I've never heard a crying baby or a whining child. Despite the norm in Park Slope I've never heard a cooing parent either. There are always people in their 20's and 30's there on dates, even in the middle of the week. I know I'm one of them.
The food is reasonably priced, the portions are huge and everything is extremely tasty.
The bread and roasted red pepper dip is amazing and complementary.
I'm obsessed with the Chicken Marsala and Mashed Potatoes.
Also great, is the Lasagna. And when you order for two, it's less expensive than ordering two separate dishes. -

Going to "Aunt Suzie's" the restaurant is like -- well, going to Aunt Suzie's as in your mom's older sister from Brooklyn. Good food and pretty slow service seems to be par for the course here. This cozy restaurant is essentially where one can go for a good hearty meal minus the uppity crowd, the fancy decorum and credit-card-company-dependent prices.
All in all, I would recommend it. -

It's so hard for me to write a review for this place because although I have to be honest and say that the food is pretty bad, I'm happy to see it's one of the only old school Brooklyn businesses that are still open after all this time.
This place has been around since I was a kid and my family went there once and nobody liked the food. Twenty years later, I get a menu at my front door and decide to give them another try; yep, the food is still terrible. I don't expect gourmet food, I'm one of the last people to go to some foofy ritzy ass restaurant on 5th avenue because it's just not my style, but this food wasn't even "comfort food" good. Everything was bland, flavorless and lacking. The portion sizes were good enough, though.
Aunt Suzie's, I don't know how you do it after all these years and even though I won't eat at your restaurant, I still hope you preserve the neighborhood I remember years ago by staying in business. -

Downtrodden' and in low spirits we fell upon Aunt Suzie's in a last ditch effort to find food in Park Slope. We had walked the stretches of 7th Ave for an hour without a trace of an Indian restaurant my brother thought he "remembered".
Our hostess wisely noticed our long faces and quickly showed us a table for four. Cozy, wooden chairs and tables adorned with the little white votives at the center of our table.
My friend gasped for a glass of ice water and the server promptly returned a moment later with a pitcher and 3 glasses.
The extensive menu can be a bit overwhelming at first, but it simmers down to noodles and sauce, pick a good combination and you won't be disappointed. The homemade vodka sauce was creamy and rich. After a few bites I was left with a desire for something more as it seemed the sauce lacked the pizazz I accustomed to in a strictly tomato based sauce.
Overall the service was attentive, considerate and informative. The food although it wasn't fancy in presentation contained hidden treasures of flavor throughout. Dishes vary from an average of $12-18. -

I had the penne in vodka sauce--a favourite dish of mine. It was way to heavy on the tomato, completely ruining the flavour.
