Pilot Mountain, NC is "Mt. Pilot," the mythical town down the road from the mythical Mayberry (a.k.a. Mount Airy). It looks like a quiet place, especially to folks passing through on the way to the Pilot Mountain State Park. But if you're off the highway to get gas and food, this first little shop on the right is exactly where you want to go. It's straight Carolina 'cue (vinegar style with more sauce in bottles on the side, either vinegar or sweet smokey tomato) served up fast and cheap in a cozy little building that also offers local ice cream and standard soft-serve cones. About $6 will get you all the 'cue, beans (green and pinto), hush puppies, and sweet tea you'll need to get you through the day.

We drove a while to get here off the highway thinking this was real BBQ -- the is a fast food joint. All fried junk, they do have pork BBQ but it is the slow cooker stuff not real BBQ....SO disappointed!
