Echoing what others have said, Augusta's excels at what it does and does not pretend to be anything more. Have been coming here for longer than I can remember (at least 15 years) and the quality has remained the same the whole time.
    Long live the chicken bites!

They serve all types of subs here, but please, if you are coming here for the first time, you need to try the chicken.  Get a sub or just get bites, it doesn't matter, they do excellent fried chicken, not a ton of spice (that's what the sauces are for), but always very fresh and juicy.

From the outside it doesn't look like much at all, in fact you would think it was just a convenience store.  The inside is dominated by a large salad bar with lots of fresh options (including some of the aforementioned chicken).  In the back is the counter where you order your subs, on the walls there are various drink and side items to choose from like you would find in a convenience store.

Don't let its odd appearance fool you, this place makes some of the best fried chicken subs I have ever had.  My go-to is the super bbq which consists of a sub roll stuffed until it is overflowing with barbecue sauce coated fried chicken bites, lettuce, tomato, bacon and cheese.

I highly recommend giving this place a try at least once, and consider adding it to your lunch rotation if you're in the area (I work about 15 minutes away and still make a point to make it at least once every month or two).

My only warning... It is truly a guilty pleasure!  Please don't ever let me know how many calories one of these things contains.

Best subs in town, hell of a salad bar too. If you go at lunch bring cash and you might be able to skip to the front of the line on the right cash register. You have to try the explosion once.

After reading all the stellar Yelp reviews about Augusta Market, I had to stop by to see for myself! Being that I work near Nutting Lake, this was a very, very short drive over for lunch today.

It would be very easy for anyone to blow right by the place, it kind of blends in with Route 3A (the main road it's on...aka Boston Road), but I sure am glad I stopped by.

I ordered the Ranch Style club as another Yelper suggested in their review on this page. The sub was absolutely fantastic, and it was made in under five minutes. It wasn't very busy in there today when I went at 12:45, but as I was leaving a horde of people filed in, so this place is very, very popular. There are many options to choose from at the Chicken Shack (sub shop in the back of the market), and the employees move very quickly, getting you in and out in no time!

My only complaint is when I got to eating my Ranch Sub it was totally overloaded with dressing so I had to remove some of the excess. So the next time I am in I will ask them to go light on dressing, or just get it on the side! Other than that, the chicken is moist and tasty, and the cost is just right...$8.01 for a 20oz soda, and a large sub.

I can safely say now, that the aftertaste is still lingering (not a bad thing at all!) I will be back to the Augusta Market for more chicken goodness!

As my crusty old colleague says, "That place cooks up a LOT of fried chicken!"
Yes, they have a salad bar and soup every day, but the star of the show here is fried chicken in not quite small enough to be bite-sized chunks. You can get em by the box with sauce, or stuffed into a sub with any or all accoutrements. Either way, it's the same chunks.

No mystery here, they just serve one of the universe's primo delicacies, and they serve it high and fast. Bravo.

Lunchtime on a weekday? Has to be 50 people inside getting lunch at any given time.

There's a good reason for that too.  Plenty of great options to choose coupled with reasonable pricing.  Affectionately known as the 'chicken shack' you better hope the chicken is good....and it is.  I'm not sure how, but I ordered a club sub and some fries and was in and out (even with a huge line) in under 10 minutes...amazing.  Alternatively you can phone/fax your order in (recommended if you are very tight on time).  Another time saver is to bring cash, as the cash-only line is much shorter.  That reminds me, three registers open during lunch...it's like a factory in there =)  Glad to see quality is maintained during a rush like that.

Also the ice cream stand is open late and is very tasty with yet again more decent prices.

OMG I love the chicken shack.

The only things I've gotten here have been the chicken subs, club, ranch, cordon bleu, it's all good.  My boyfriend has been pleased with the salad bar as well.  This is a favorite summer lunch hangout for my coworkers, mainly because you can sit out on the benches on a nice day.  Plus you can bring the lamers who bring leftovers (breaking down the buy vs bring segregation rule), because the Chicken Shack doesn't seem to mind, as long as somebody's buying something.

You're also in throwing distance of an ice cream place and a little farm nursery, which is a nice way to prolong a Friday lunchtime.

Against my better judgement, I spent Friday night getting sauced (see my reviews of Jade Pacific and Mickee's Sports Pub) even though I was scheduled to go in to work this weekend.  Needless to say, I was in need of some nourishment around noon on Saturday, so I headed out to Augusta's to hit up the salad bar.  I love this salad bar!  The produce is always fresh and there are tons of options, including buffalo chicken bites.  I filled up my container with a hefty buffalo chicken salad and had a very satisfying lunch for under $8.

In addtion to a great salad bar, Augusta's is a small convenience store, has a sub shop in back (I believe this is referred to as the Chicken Shack?), and a separate ice cream stand and liquor store attached.  It's your one stop shop!  It gets really crowded in the store during lunchtime, so if you're getting a sub, I suggest phoning in your order for pick up to avoid the line.  There's no indoor seating, but during the nice months, you can sit at one of the picnic tables outside.  If you want one of these, you need to get there early, though.  Definitely one of my favorite lunch places in Billerica and now that it's getting to be warm out again, I'll be here frequently.

Great subs. Just stopped in to check out this place. Turkey sub and BLT got B+ on our list. Red potato salad was a solid A-. Fast service. Awesome salad bar and friendly service.

A great place for a quick bite to eat.

    Augusta Market...and the Chicken Shack.

With a little Ice Cream Shop on one end...and a Package Store on the other?  (Package Store is a liquor store for you non-New Englanders)

    What's NOT to love?

The Chicken Bites are a great lunchtime fave of many people...you can get Cajun sauce, Honey Mustard, Sweet and Sour, etc, etc.  You'll never eat another Chicken McChewie again!

The subs are pretty good too...

You can get some homemade soup...or a picnic style side to go with your bites or sub...and grab something to drink...as this place is as much a convenient store as it is an eatery.

You can't miss the giant salad bar in the middle of the place...lined up with all kinds of fresh ingredients!

Bring cash for the quick register during lunch time...otherwise wait in line behind 10+ people in the debit/credit line.

This place will cater too...my workplace has gone to them a few times now.

Still loving this place - I go here minimally once a week for lunch now. The salad bar is huge, fresh and full of tasty veggies, fruits, and pre-made salads (like potato, tuna, and chicken).

It may be the only redeeming quality of Billerica!

    I LOVE THIS PLACE!

I eat here all the time.

    Things I like:
-The Ranch Style chicken cutlet sub (a must try)
-How quick it is even when there are huge lines
-The salad bar has tons of options and is a good alternative to the subs (especially if you start packing on pounds from eating the fried chicken bite subs every day like I did, haha)

    Things I don't like:
-Chicken chunks are often too big to fit your mouth around.   I have to break them up into smaller pieces to be able to eat the sub in a non-barbaric manner
-One credit card machine servicing a 20 person line.   PLEASE INVEST IN ANOTHER ONE

Overall I would say this is a must try for anyone new to or passing through Billerica

Driving by I would have never thought to stop in. From the outside it looks like a little market. As you walk in it looks like a little convenience store. Walk in a bit though and you will see a very large salad bar. I have never gotten the salad, but it looks nice with tons of options.

Walk all the way to the back and you hit gold. There is a counter where they make subs and paninis and wraps. What they are really known for though are the chicken bites. They are their version of chicken nuggets basically. They are delicious. There are a number of different sauces to choose from. My only problems with the bites is that they do put any salt on them and they really do need it. Make sure to grab a few salt packets on the way out.

They sell the chicken bites as a party platter too. I am not sure how many bites that gets you, but it is a ton. Great for a super bowl party.

Their steak and cheese sub is really good as well, but for some reason they do not cut their subs in half, unless you ask. I now know to always ask for that.

People who think this is a great place need to get out more. Yes, the chicken bites are great...but the salad bar is incredibly over-priced. Also...on the menu it lists "jumbo bagels." Don't be fooled...they don't have them.

The Chicken Shack is fantastic.  It may not look like it on the outside, but the food there will surprise you.

The service is lightning fast; even with a big line you'll get your food fast.  The chicken subs are the best (Super BBQ is my favorite) and great value for the money you spend on them.  Even just a $4.99 small sub makes a sizable lunch.

If you're anywhere near this place, it's worth giving it a try.

I'm just repeating what everyone else said.  Cheap food.  Zero ambience. But the place doesn't pretend to be something other than a cheap take out place with great food so it gets five stars for perfectly executing that misson.

Based on what I read here I went with the chicken bites.  Fifteen bites is definitely the best deal.  For something like $8.50 you get (I'm guessing here) just under two pounds of chicken breast and two sauces.  This was plenty of food for my wife and I to share.

Big chucks of chicken, lightly breaded (not battered) and deep fried.  Totally light, not a hint of oil in the final product.  No off taste of stale oil or something else having been cooked in the same oil before.  Cooked to order arriving steaming hot, tender and juicy with only a few mins wait.  The sauces were really good too.

Friendly and courteous staff.  I look forward to trying some of their other menu items.

You know, this is good bird!

Once you try the Chicken Bites here, you'll never go back to the McPigeon Nuggets from McD's.

Augusta Market aka "The Chicken Shack"... Famous for it's mouth watering chicken bites.

These guys do it right!  They use real (and recognizable!) pieces of chicken breast and cook them fresh.   They have a good selection of toppings to choose from.  You'll get one topping included with your 10 piece chicken bites but you can add another sauce for .50 more.  1 sauce however is plenty for your ten pieces, you'll only need a second sauce if you want to test out other sauces.

They also have a deli that serves a good variety of sandwiches and some assortment of salads (chicken, potato, tuna, etc).  If you order any of the chicken sandwiches here I'm pretty sure they all use the famous chicken bites as the chicken filler.  I've had the Cajun and the Chicken bomb and I know both have the chicken bites as the filler.

So, you think a place called "The Chicken Shack" is only know for it's chicken?  I beg to differ, this place has one of the best salad bars in town!  A little pricey but it's a darn good salad bar!  I would say the selection is well over 20 items to choose from.  Plenty of low fat favorites as well as marinated meats and veggies.  I could eat those marinated mushrooms all day long!

The fun doesn't end just yet, nope, there's also 3 or 4 homemade soups up by the deli window as well.  I think they always have a pot of their homemade chili on hand and I'm a big fan.  Make sure you give it a good stir because I've gotten a couple of bowls that were a little stingy on the meat.

This is a great place to hit during lunch time, it's homemade, fresh, and can be a healthy choice if you play the salad bar correctly.

Are you asking yourself why I only gave it 4 stars?
I'd say I'm bordering on a 4.5 but not enough to push it over to the 5th star.

Food is great!  Prices are reasonable!  People are friendly!

However, the consistency of the food varies from the time of day and the day you go.  My weekend experiences vary from my experiences during the week.

Larry H. nailed it. Chicken bites are insane! We've lived a town away for 5 years, have driven by so many times and finally decided to try it. Can't wait to go back to try some sandwiches and the salad bar. No frills market but definitely try the chicken bites. They are so moist and juicy. Don't know how they do it!

This place is excellent!  Their salad bar has a wide variety of fresh items, and they are always refilling and cleaning it.  Although the salads I buy are a bit expensive ($12 is my record), they are well worth it.  As other reviewers have mentioned, their chicken bites and sandwiches are really good.  I've also had many of their other subs and they are all great.  It does get busy, particularly at lunchtime, but that is what comes with a good place to eat.  Well done, Augusta's!

I'm giving Augusta Market 5 stars because they make the best meatball subs that I have ever eaten. The meatballs and sauce are perfect (I always get extra sauce on the side) and a large one is under $6. I'm not so crazy about their steak subs (and I was tempted to give them 4 stars, for that reason, although the portions are very generous). But the meatball subs are so good, that they deserve 5 stars just for that.
