Review from Terin C.
Firstly, my mood when the boyfriend and I traversed this tearoom was strange. We had literally driven up from Los Angeles to San Francisco the night before on a whim. We'd had hot chocolate at Ghiradelli Square for the first time at around midnight and proceeded to spend hours searching for a decent hotel room to pass the rest of the night. I was too tired the next morning to notice Mark furiously searching his yelp iphone application for a nearby tearoom to surprise me with. Later, in the car, I was confused as to why he'd gotten off the freeway when we were supposed to be headed back home. So, by the time we walked through the doors of August Tearoom, I was tired, confused, surprised... and dazedly happy. It was like being in a warm, scone-scented dream.
We got there just as they were opening, so we had a few minutes to peruse the relatively large shop in front. It was filled with odds and ends that you would have to go to a place like this to find, things that - had I been a wealthier woman - would have left with me in an obscenely large bag. As it was, I did enjoy looking.
Being as tired as I was, I have retained very little memory in regards to the specifics. What I can remember is the tearoom itself was very cute, quite how I imagine a life-size dollhouse would be like. I'm not sure what tea service we ordered, but we got a pot of tea each, scones with cream and jam, sandwiches, savories, and small sweet treats. The food came served on a tiered tray, which I loved. It was all pretty tasty - a little different from other tearooms I've been too. Some of it with a bit of an Asian flair, like my vegetable dumpling savory which was really very good. At first glance, as is the case with most tearooms, portions appear quite small... but one can appreciate this at the end of the afternoon when they're arguing with their boyfriend about who has to finish the last brownie. Not because the brownie wasn't good, but because a stomach only stretches so far.
Lastly, the owner was welcoming and attentive. Since we were the only ones there at the time she did not flinch at talking to us from behind the counter and asking if this scone would be okay or if that sandwich would be good for us. I'm a vegetarian and she very graciously took it in to account every time she served me anything. I appreciated the personal service. It seemed like she really cared to make our experience a good one. I should also mention that she offers to take your picture which, since she prints it out right there for you, is a really nice and personalized souvenir. All things considered, this place is a very pleasant, albeit hazy, memory of mine. My only regret is that it's so far away and it'll be a while before I can go back... but I definitely plan on going back.Listed in: Tea-rin (A Tea Time Story)

It is a sad day when a small little tea shop can't survive in Livermore.
Dec. 24th was the final tea service at August. And the gift shop will be closing soon as well. It was a wonderful place to browse for seasonal gifts. And the tea room was a special place for my wife and her friends.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

My church has started a new tradition of a women's tea. Okay - well this was the first year, but since everything was so wonderful at August Tea Room, it's sure to become a yearly event. Mama Marie (who was visiting) and I arrived a little early and shopped a bit in the Country Charm gift store. When it was time to go back to the room, we had a blast with the other ladies, trying on hats and convincing each other to wear them.
The tea room possesses this mix of whimsical fun and lady-like charm. We all had a great time and dined plentifully. We had the "Queen's Tea" - which offered 2 different soups, a variety of sandwiches, scones, and sweets. The soups weren't great, but the sandwiches were and the sweets were delish. The staff was careful of service during our speaker's presentation. They were great at keeping the teapots full and giving us new tea cups if we wanted to try a new kind. Letty was sweet as can be and made sure we were all enjoying ourselves.
I probably won't be back before next year (it's a bit of a drive), but I'm looking forward to it. -

No.... this is not my usual forte'. I know you will find it quite a shock...but, I am not very lady like. No, really. Pretty much a tom boy with nice shoes and handbags. I can burp like nobody's business.
But this afternoon was set aside to be with some very dear girlfriends and we really had a splendid time. Full tea service, HUGE tea menu to choose from, a fucking gorgeous tier of tea sandwiches, petit fours (sp?) and scrumptious scones.
Service was completely 5 stars.... I would even consider wearing a dress the next time.... uhhh, maybe not. -

What do you mean I haven't reviewed August Tea Room?
I remember writing a review but maybe I was dreaming...
I have been to August Tea Room 3 times and each time I say to myself that I need to come here more often. The hospitality of Lety, (the owner) and her staff is so welcoming, I leave feeling like I have made some new friends. I find myself inventing occasions that might be celebrated in a tea room. St Pats Day? Sure I'll have another Green Tea! You get the picture....
The staff at August Tea Room create an experience for their customers with amazing high quality teas and wonderful home made scones (don't forget the lemon curd!) that take on a life of their own on your tongue. For lunch, they serve finger sandwiches that remind of an afternoon at Grandma's...cucumber, egg salad, chicken salad (my fave).
I attended a girl's b-day party here where all the girlies were given boas and hats in which to enjoy their tea. Crisp sugar cookies, scones and sugar cubes in shapes of flowers were a hit with the under-10 set.
This is the kind of business one would expect to find on the Peninsula or somewhere more oft traveled. It is worth the time to find this gem tucked away in a little shopping center. I'm so glad they are located in Livermore!
5 Pinkies up to August Tea Room! -

August Tea Room is a wonderful place to experience fantastic tea and food in a Victorian English setting. Guests are also invited to choose a hat to wear while having tea. Each table is decorated with an assortment of teapots, china plates and cups, and fresh flowers arranged in a "teapot" vase.
This fabulous "afternoon" tea experience began with the hostess presenting our table with 5 different teas. If none of these 5 teas tempt you, there are over 100 different teas to choose from. Next, the hostess provided hot steamed towels to wipe our hands before tea is served. We ordered the "Royal Tea" which came with an assortment of tea sandwiches, homemade scones, savories, and miniature sweets. Everything was so delicious!
Moreover, the service here is superb - all the hostesses including the owner were very attentive and made sure we had enough tea to drink! Complementary pictures are also available for guests (great memento to preserve this tea drinking experience)!
Side note - August Tea Room is located inside the Country Charm Store which features a wide selection of teaware, teas, gourmet food, jewelry, and other gift items.
Definitely a great place to have a pleasant afternoon with magnificent ladies! -

I have visited the August Tea Room on several occasions & have never been disappointed.
The tea room is located in an outdoor shopping center with good parking. Entrance to the tea room is through Jillian's, an attractive gift store. Although the entry has a slight grade, it is accessible for wheelchairs.
Entering the tea room, I am greeted with warm smiles from Lety, the owner and Anita who will be my server. I am promptly seated in a pretty rose colored upholstered chair.
The tea room is attractively decorated with full length cloth tablecloths. Each place setting has an attractive folded cloth napkin and there are small bouquets of fresh flowers on each table. The floor is covered with a patterned rug. The shelves around the tea room are filled with tea related items and china cups for sale, but the room does not look cluttered. Soft classical music is playing. The tea room as well as the uni-sex bathroom are both neat and spotless.
After being given a warm, damp towel to wipe my hands, I order the Lady Lety's Royal Tea & am also shown a tea list with a large selection of teas. I cannot decide between two estate teas: Margaret's Hope & Lover's Leap & ask if it is possible to order a small pot of each tea so I can taste the difference. Before long, 2 pots of tea arrive at my table wrapped in quilted tea cozies. Each tea is labeled with a marked paper doily tucked into the cozy. I am also given a small plate with two warm, homemade cookies. They are cut in the shape of pumpkins & are covered with a cinnamon-sugar sprinkle. The remind me of the snickerdoodles my mother made.
Lady Lety's Royal Tea (by reservation only) has 5 separate courses from soup, salad, a variety of sandwiches, scones & a dessert plate. There are other selections on the menu including one especially geared for children. Noticed that they are also open for morning teas and lunches. Prices for afternoon & high tea menus are average for our area $17-26. The Lady Lety's Royal Tea is $35.
Lety asks if I have any dietary restrictions or preferences as she could adjust the items given me. It pleases me that she wants make my tea experience enjoyable. She mentioned that she made a butternut squash soup with coconut milk instead of cream for a woman who had called in a reservation & advised she could not have anything dairy. She also had a tomato-basil soup. I chose the butternut squash soup with coconut milk and a hint of ginger. It was hot, delicately seasoned & enjoyable.
Each course came in succession, but not until I was finished with the last one. I never felt rushed. My pots of tea were regularly checked to see that they were filled. The Lover's Leap tea was great & had a grassy undertone.
My second course was a salad presented on a cold antique plate with a delicious fruit based dressing in a tiny chilled glass pitcher. Other than the fresh mixed greens & spinach, it had candied pecans, a generous amount of dried cranberries, plenty of crumbled feta & a few red grape tomatoes. I savored every bite.
For sandwiches, I was given a selection, beautifully presented on an elevated dish. The breads were fresh, excellent quality & the fillings were good. I noticed that they used 2 different breads instead of having everything put on white bread. They had both open & closed small sandwiches. The type of sandwiches they serve vary from daily. I especially enjoyed the cucumber with parsley butter with a sprinkle of fresh dill; chicken salad; egg salad & the tomato-basil open faced sandwich.
Next, I received 2 different piping hot scones. Also served was a tray filled with tiny glass dishes of lemon curd, clotted cream & jam. Each had a tiny spoon. I noticed that the tray & the dishes were properly chilled. Ate one delicious scone but when I looked at the second, I knew that I was on the 4th course, had another course to go & I was completely filled. The second scone I ate at home appeared to be filled with a bit of dried orange rind & was good.
Finally, the last course arrives and it is a wonderful selection of desserts including panna cotta. The panna cotta was chilled & served with a tiny spoon. It was delicately flavored. Also served was a tiny chilled dish of mixed melon pieces.
As I write this Yelp, I am looking at the desserts that I had to bring home: a lemon tart, a Russian tea cake, a tiny almond-caramel filled filo tart, a chocolate shell filled with a creamy mixture & more. I'm still stuffed & am unable to taste them at this time, even for Yelp... lol
Hours are Wed-Sat 10-5 with tea sitting 11- 3. Sunday, hours are 11-4 with tea sitting is 11-1. Wish they could split the royal tea for two to enjoy, but there is a $10 minimum per person charge. Will have to ask on my next visit.
As I left, Letty & Anita were singing to honor a teenage guest. Both have great voices and they were not singing the traditional one we all know but was as special & distinctive as the tea shop.Listed in: Tea Time

As my dearest daughter said, we attended a church function here and were very impressed.
The cutesy country charm was nice and not too over the top. I liked the added touch of the hats, which allowed grown women to play "dress up". The owner/hostess and her staff were warm and friendly.
The berry herbal tea was really good...as were the finger sandwiches and scones. The pastries were also good...not spectacular, but above average. Of course, I was making comparisons to La Farine, so they were probably better than I am giving credit for. I was not impressed by the soup. It was a little watery and rather bland.
Overall, this is a charming place that makes the perfect backdrop for a ladie's afternoon out...or would make a magnificent setting for a special birthday celebration - for both big and little girls.
If this becomes a tradition for Gracie's church, I will ensure I am in attendance. -

While going out for tea may not be my "cup of tea" I did enjoy this tea room. The finger sandwiches were yummy and the tea was really good too. They continued to fill up the tea so that it was always nice on hot.
The atmoshphere was nice and "Afternoon Tea-ish." I can't imagine myself going again anytime soon, just because I think that one time is enough for a while, but if i were to go to a tea room again, I would go back -

August Tea Room is an extremely positive experience from start to finish. It was my first time there today, and Lety & staff were friendly and attentive, always checking up on us!
Being that it was our first time here and we had 2 adults and 2 teens, we wanted to order 2 High Teas and 2 a la carte orders. Apparently they don't allow a la carte ordering on weekends which was kind of disappointing, but they let the teens with us do it anyway.
The scones here are the best I have had, although their jam and lemon curd were just OK. Also, at Tyme for Tea and English Rose Tea Room, they give everyone their own individual servings of cream, lemon curd, and jam. Here, they only give 1 serving of each for the entire table.
Lety was generous and gave our teens a complimentary scone to welcome us on our first visit.
The surprise came when the bill arrived. We had 2 pots of tea that we shared with our teens and staff had said that was OK, when the bill came, they still went ahead and charged us an extra $8.50 for "splitting" the tea with them. I was pretty disappointed about that since they had re-assured us it was fine to go ahead and share our tea pots among the table. After all, 2 large tea pots for 4 was more than enough.
Overall, an excellent place for tea time. They have the best hot savories I have had, and best scone variety flavors! The teas are good, but standard (Greens, Blacks...) and also offer lots of de-caffeinated teas. They don't have as many unique flavors as English Rose room (like tropical blend or snickerdoodle which I really like at English Rose) They also have plenty of hats to play with and wear like Tyme for Tea does, but the ambiance is less tea-room-like than I'd like it to be, although still highly enjoyable.
A big thumbs up for Letty & Staff! Will return :-)
Their prices are as follows:
- Royal Tea, $22 (compares to The English Rose Tea Room's
Queen's Sumptuous Afternoon Tea for $23 and Tyme for Tea's Victorian Tea for $21)
- Queen Tea $26 (It's the Royal Tea + home made soup)
- Lady Lety's Tea, $35 (5 course - Includes Appetizer and First Course)Listed in: Tea Rooms

Review from Leana L.
I came here this afternoon with my friends from high school to play catch up since everyone was in town for the weekend. Since a lot of other tea rooms were closed on Sunday or had other restrictions, we came here by default, but I'm glad we did! We had 1pm reservations, but we arrived about 15 minutes early. They sat us right away without any questions (granted, there was only one other small group of people besides us).
Since their help didn't show up today, the husband and wife team were our servers. They walked us through the process and encouraged us to smell the teas they had available. After some sampling, I settled on the Lady Londonderry and all of us all got the Afternoon Tea Service.
All the tables are set up with cute flowery dishes, making it the perfect girly spot to gossip! Our teas were brought out almost immediately and although they had trouble locating one of my friend's selections, they let us know what was going on, and even set her up with a timer to let her know when her tea was seeped enough before pouring.
They supplied us with cream/milk, sugar cubes, and artificial sweeteners for our tea. I tried all of the teas on the table (Buckingham Palace, Apple Cinnamon, and another one I can't remember - it was fruity). All of them were really good and I didn't even have to add any milk or sugar! (And I usually like to add at least milk to my tea) They were really good about making sure our tea pots were full of hot water.
Shortly after our tea was brought out, our sandwiches and snacks were presented to us on a cute little tiered serving tray. The top tray were tiny little key lime cheesecakes and powder sugared cookies that reminded me of little mexican wedding cake cookies. The second tier had an assortment of scones (blueberry, mixed berry/raspberry, and ginger -- although it tasted like orange essence). Accompanying the scones was a helping of raspberry preserves, lemon curd, and clotted cream. The third tier had an array of little tea sandwiches. One had white bread and cucumber, another had wheat bread with a mango chutney and swiss cheese, and the last one was chicken salad on half a croissant.
I didn't try the little cheesecake, but my friends really liked it. The little cookie was just okay, but it was the favorite of one of my friends. The scones were pretty good and were quite tasty with the little garnishes they had available. Since it was a Sunday, they didn't make very many scones and when one of my friends requested an extra blueberry scone, they only had mixed berry/raspberry ones left. The tea sandwiches ranged from good to okay. The one with mango chutney was yummy, but the cucumber one and chicken salad one were just okay. They were nice enough to accommodate the vegetarian needs of one of my friends, even though they mentioned something about usually needing advance notice.
We spent a good couple of hours there and while we were there, only one other table showed up after us. They do special things for birthdays because they provided a cute little cupcake and candle for one of the tables celebrating a birthday. They even sang a little birthday song (not the usual birthday song, either!), which was really cute.
While we were finishing up our tea and chatting, they offered to take our picture for us. They let us try on some fancy hats they had in the tea room and we posed for some pictures. We had our digital cameras, and they also took one with their camera and printed out a copy for each one of us! During the remainder of the time, they offered us water, but were sure to mention they weren't rushing us out.
Overall, this was a cute little place to spend time with my friends and just catch up on life. It was very relaxing and while the food wasn't anything amazing, it was good and you don't go to a tea room necessarily for the food anyways -- you go for the teas -- and THOSE were amazing. The service was friendly and attentive, also.
I might come back if there were another occasion befitting of a girly tea room. It is kind of pricey ($23/each including tip), so it's not something I would do regularly, but I would recommend it to others for girly get-togethers. -

I just had my bridal shower here and had a wonderful time. With a group of about 20 ladies, we were slightly squeezed in the back area of the tea room. The food was really great--I only wish I could have eaten more of it! There were little sandwiches, scones, petit fours and even more yummy stuff. I can't really rate the tea, as I am not a fan.
So many of the ladies, many from the Livermore area, didn't even know this place existed. They all loved it and wanted to come back. The front of the place is a cute gift shop, which I wish I would have perused before leaving.
It's a great place for a ladies-only party, but maybe with fewer people. -

August Tea Room is an extremely pleasant place for a tea experience. The staff is highly attentive and is constantly checking up on tables. The owners are very nice. I would say the food is good, not extraordinary, but tasty and filling. However, the soup that was served with our tea service was not only a surprise, it was quite delicious!
I believe if I can bring my mother back to a place I've been, then it's a good thing! -

The August Tea Room is a delicious way to spend a leisurely sunday after noon with your best girlfriends/mom/daughter...! The decor is adorably Victorian ecletic and there are hats everywhere which people are encouraged to don. In fact, the day we were there, a gathering of the Red Hat society were there enjoying a lovely gathering. The food was tasty, including the finger sandwiches, scones and petit fours. Letty was kind enough to bring out extra clotted cream and preserves when we plowed through ours and she also brought out some extra roast beef horseradish sandwiches when one of our party expressed that she loved Letty's roast beef.
The tea selection is amazing - there are dozens upon dozens to choose from, and they always have a special new one.
This is an experience! -

I decided to have afternoon tea on a Saturday with three of my friends for my birthday. So, we went.
This would be my third time at a tea room. Decor was cute, as with most tea rooms, though maybe a bit cluttered. Or maybe that's just the appeal of it. Most of the decor was around the perimeter of the room anyway, so it wasn't as if it was in your way or anything.
We were promptly seated and given menus. The lady (not the owner I think, but both were very pleasant!) gave us sample teas to smell and some tea cookies to nibble on. We spent a long time trying to figure out what teas to order but she was very patient. Once we did order, the different teas were brought out one by one. All were amazing! The strawberry green tea and chocolate chai were my favorites. Definitely going to come back and order those.
We ordered the Queen's Tea I think, so that included...too much food, haha. First we had tomato bisque with some sort of herb cheese toast on top. Bisque wasn't anything to write home about, but it wasn't bad either.
After that were tea sandwiches. They were all lovely with a variety of breads and fillings. I can't remember them all, but one with an herb cheese spread similar to what was in the soup was my favorite.
By the time the scones and desserts arrived I'm sure we were all stuffed, but we kept on going anyway! Scones were tasty, and their shortbread cookies were great. We couldn't finish the desserts but I think there were also pecan tarts and other little things like that. They also gave me a delicious white cupcake with buttercream icing for my bday cake. It was cute!
The owner greeted us during the tea and complimented my friend's mini top hat, haha. Her and the other server were very very kind. They also took a picture of us to keep.
Nothing bad to say at all. I think the Queen's tea was $25 each.
I will be back for sure! -

Each year our Girl Scout troop does a Mother Daughter Tea in the spring. This year August Tea Room was where we had our par-tea!
The tea room is in the back of the Country Charm store which sits on a corner lot. Parking is plentiful. We had a large group of 24. Tables were set in such a way where there were twelve people at each of two long groups of tables. Even with these numbers, the way the tables were set, it made for an intimate setting for those around you. An assortment of teapots, china plates and fresh flowers decorated the table. The owner was very accomadating to our group with the place cards and decorations the girls made their Moms that would need to go at each place.
After we were all seated, Letty, the owner, came out and welcomed us and introduced our group to the four girls who would be serving. Starting with hot steamed towels to wipe our hands, then on to tea! The girls were served the 'Princess Tea' which included their own teapot with their drink of choice. Adults received an assortment of sandwiches, savories, scones, cookie and sweet treats.
Service was excellent. A memorable afternoon out with our daughters. -

I've been to the August Tea Room more times than I can remember now! It is a great little place. It's just the way a tea room should look. Very frilly and lots of little tea pots and trinkets all around the room. It's very comfortable and I love the atmosphere of this place. Letty, the owner is very sweet and always makes you feel welcomed. The menu is great because it has a little of everything. The scones are amazing and so good because they come out nice and warm!
The staff is very informative with the teas and are very good at explaining each sandwich and dessert. They use tea cozy's on their pots which help keep them warm and will always fill up more hot water when needed. If they know a head of time that a child is going to be there, they go out of their way to make it very special. It was my daughter's first time there and they asked her what her favorite color was and she said purple so they decorated her cupcake in purple frosting and purple sprinkles. She felt very special!
They always take a picture of your table and make enough copies of the picture for everyone to take home which is very thoughtful. It's those little extras that really stand out and I can't say enough about this place. It's great for just a couple of friends getting together, baby/bridal showers, etc. I've even seen some guys in there!
The best thing is for you to try it out for yourself and let me just mention that Mother's Day is coming up and it would be a perfect place for Mother's Day tea. They even have a special menu for that. I've taken my mom here numerous times and we always enjoy ourselves. -

The food was great! I believe we had the "Royal Tea" and it consisted of 3 hot appetizer bites before the standard tray of sandwiches, scones and desserts. I appreciate it when the sandwiches don't all have the same bread and these were all different. Also, they were not just the traditional types but had a few interesting selections mixed in. I had the Windsor English tea and really enjoyed it but they have a huge selection so I think there is something for everyone. The tea room is nicely decorated in the kitschy tea place style. They had lovely arranged flowers on the table which I give extra points for. The one thing I didn't like was the location, it's in a small strip mall with an auto parts store but I would go here again and there are some other bay area tea places that could take a lesson from their food...

My friend and I went here today for their Queen Tea. We started out in the gift area, which has lots of cute china pots, plates, bread mixes etc... The odd thing was the gift store had a very creaky wooden floor, which seemed to take away from the mood in the adjacent tea room. The tea room was pretty empty, but then it was Friday at 11am. We had our choice of tables, so we sat near the back. Lety waited on us, and had us pick out our teas first, so went with the Passion Tea and Vanilla Chai, which were both delicious. We got to sample one of the 5 Teas that were also displayed on a plate she had brought to the table, so we tried Monks, which was wonderful. The service seemed a bit slow considering there were only 2 other tables with 2 guests each. The Butternut Squash Soup was served first, and was delicious, followed by a 4 tier plate with 5 different finger sandwiches each, 5 scones total, and 5 mini desserts each. The only problem was Lety had taken our Tea pots to refill, and forgotten to bring them back. The Scones were yummy, the sandwiches were good, and we took home the desserts. They gave us each a complimentary photo for us to take home, which was nice. I had a coupon for buy one get one half off, which made the $26 per person a bit easier to swallow. I've been to other tea rooms, and felt the ambiance could have been better here. I think there was music playing, but we couldn't hear it. The service was just OK, considering there really wasn't anyone else there. I'd hate to come here when it's crowded.
