We asked our server at Park Avenue Summer for some good spots in Lower, and she told us the chef had just mentioned August. From the relative upscale climes of Park Ave to chill Bleecker--I'm down with that. We squeezed into a packed back patio, and under a beautiful rainy glass roof, supped with various Village denizens....rich and tasty Med cuisine. Lovely Med featured server too. Check it out...

August is such a cutesy place and the food was yummy.  I had the Grilled Onglet of Beef, which was a decently sized portion, that had a very light but impressive taste to it.  If only I could cook such wonders myself.  The wait staff was very attentive, and although it is recommended to make reservations at this place, we got lucky and were immediately seated in the patio area.  I felt like I was inside a green house.  ;)  I do have to warn you though about going to the bathroom here, as the stairs are very steep, so you must hold onto the rail for dear life on the way down and especially on the way back up.

Delish! While I am usually not a fan of french toast because it's typically too heavy (I'm a pancake girl) I loved the pain perdu at August! The bread was so light and fluffy -- it completely redefined french toast for me. Wasn't a fan of the strawberry rhubarb sauce.. as it was a little tart for me, but the whipped cream with the toast was heavenly. My boyfriend had the steak and eggs... I felt the steak was a little oversalted, but the eggs had a wonderful char. Portions were perfectly sized for me... but a little on the small side for a guy (especially if you have a big appetite).

With the help of Yelp, I had the distinct pleasure of dining at this West Village gem!  What really stood out to me was the impeccable service.  There was someone there, presumably the sommelier, who was extremely helpful in suggesting a wonderful chilled red wine.  I was with 2 others---none of us had ever tried chilled red wine and now we are officially hooked.

The ambiance was comfortable, the walls were done in an interesting way, and the overall atmosphere sparked great conversation.  The artisinal cheese platter was very good, Lathera of Lamb Shoulder was incredibly flavorful and spiced just right, and the profiteroles for dessert were a big hit.

I highly recommend going to August and Ive heard brunch is deeelish too.

Delectable.  Simply delectable.

Both in decor and food.  The bacon and onion "tarte flambe" (aka flatbread pizza) with creme fraiche was AMAZING.  The Charred Minute Steak with Julienne Salad was heaven, the crispy potatoes and citrus worked wonderfully together; simply divine, with trumpets, baby cherubs, and all that.

Other delicious dishes we had included the Bagna Cauda (spring veggies with warm garlic anchovy dip), Fava Bean and Pecorino Bruschetta, and the Slow Roasted Halibut with Spring Onion Fricasse.

The menu is limited, wine list is extensive, and there seems to be something for everyone. The menu is also seasonal, so I can't wait to come back!

Service: 4 stars
Decor: cute and cozy
Bathroom: tiny - watch out on your way down the stairs!

I just recently went here to celebrate two of my friends birthdays. I called ahead and made reservations, and from the look of the line inside I'm glad I did. We were seated in the beautiful patio area, which had a calming, greenhouse atmosphere. And even though it was cold and rainy outside, you couldn't feel a bit of that nasty weather for it was completely covered with a see-through dome. Definitely glad that we were seated out there. Amped up the ambiance for sure.

As for the food and service, both were very good. I recommend trying the artichoke appetizer. Delicious! I had the spring chicken as my entree, and enjoyed every tender bite. Others in my party had the halibut and lamb, which they all raved over. Not one complaint in the house. And the $28 wine bottle proved to be good enough to have 3/4 bottles of.

Have something to celebrate? Go here!

I went there for brunch one Saturday.  My friend had read some good reviews so we thought we'd check it out. As soon as I walked in I knew I found a new favorite restaurant.  It had all the rustic and charm that I expect to find in a small French town.  It was dim in the main dining area-mainly because it was raining out.  And the wood oven was in plain view.  We were seated in the back where we could enjoy our meal in natural light.  The rain falling on the glass ceiling added to the atmosphere.  My friend and I wanted the eggs--she had the wood oven baked eggs called Alsatian.  I had with the frittata of the day. My frittata was very delicious--no need for extra salt or pepper!  It also was baked in their wood oven--with chunks of brioche, mushroom, pea shoots, and parmigiano.  It was perfectly filling.  My friend enjoyed her eggs but wasn't as satisfied as she had to supplement with a few more slices of bread. I will definitely be returning but it might be hard to try anything but the wood oven eggs and frittata...but I'll try.

I don't' have enough great things to say about August. I've only been here twice but I absolutely adore this place.

It might be the fact it is so perfectly small. I realize that 'perfectly small' might sound like an oxymoron...but here's how I'd describe it:

You're walking down 7th ave south trying to figure out where your going to turn to get to the right spot on Bleecker (those god damn west village streets, wouldn't change them for the world!) even though you've been here before. You spot it, relief sinks in, you know the person you're with definitely knew you were lost, but you found it, so all is forgiven. You walk in, you don't have a reservation, smiles all around, then you're walked to your table for the night. It's wooden, but something about it screams of a time that's past but not forgotten. You sit down, the table creeks a little bit, you look across and see the person your with wince, but that's okay, because you know what's coming next. The people in the table next to you are oh so close, but pleasant. They greet you with a smile, and a considerate, and totally voluntary 'how are you?' (is the accent french?).

You're waiter for the night comes by again after just the perfect amount of time, and asks you for your order. You start off with the tarte flambe and the fava bean pecorino bruschetta, and if the perfectly glazed onions don't bring you into another stratosphere then there's something wrong. You taste some of the bruschetta, and realize how sumptuously the ricotta has been blended with the accompanying lemon and mint and you begin to realize: "oh my this is going to end." But not yet...

The charred minute steak is cooked to perfection. The gentle morsels so tender they seem to dangle in the center of the plate like a spring kinetically engineered to take over your tongue, and it does. All accompanied by a bottle of Loire's very own, "cuvee terriror" of which you had no previous knowledge but my how delicious it truly is....and the best part, you didn't know anything about wine, it was recommended by the staff....

No dessert that night, but sometimes its really not necessary. Alot of reviews before this have described in detail what this place looks like, so I'll spare you if you're reading this. This place is a treasure and I truly appreciate it that it's entered my dumb little world.

Great Brunch spot - coffee is superior and their baked egg concoctions are great! It makes me feel quite civilized and privledged in the back garden.

I heard dinner was super pricey though, so I haven't eaten there after afternoon.

Wine selection was decent, the Dorado ($24) fish was OK (they show you the whole fish then ask if you want it filleted), the Profiteroles were good, the Tres Leches (actually 4 - evaporated, condensed, coconut, whole milk) coconut cake was OK.

This place had a 45min wait tonight w/o reservations.
I don't know if it's THAT good but it's passable.

Dinner came out to $55/pp after everything

So I logged to Yelp and to Nymag.. two of my sources for the best places to go.
I picked up August because of the back garden view and because it was on the critic pick list in NYmag and the good reviews from Yelp and it was romantic!.
The location and the decor were amazing. I made a reservation for 1:45 Brunch Sunday. I was impressed that they accept reservations for such a busy Sunday. I arrived with my guest and we were seated within 3 minutes. while the non savvy patrons were still waiting for a table outside.
we both were very impressed with the place. on a rainy Sunday the place was as romantic as it can be and by now my date has been used  to the idea that I am in charge of picking the best places to dine out.
we were disappointed on the items we picked(Bordelaise & Manchester)
the two Wood Oven Baked Eggs en Cocotte surely looked good and very tempting on the table next to us. But not the taste; It was dry, Salty and just not a good thing. But we compensated ourselves with a happy ending"Pain Perdu"
which was really the best item we had.
all in all the place is good for the whole atmosphere and the whole look. But I would not go there any time soon for the menu.
we still have fun and we made the best out of it. Even me after all I can not always control the menu!.
we still managed to have a great Sunday after all.

It was at August that I experienced my first Utter Failure to Observe Restaurant Week. I went with three companions, drawn by the prix-fixe menu and the rave reviews. I finished the night with a $100 tab for myself alone, a combination of good wine and the lure of the regular menu. How was I supposed to resist that melting, savory, slightly smoky tarte flambe? I suppose this is my own fault.
Anyway, August was a great place for a cold late winter's night. We couldn't get a reservation until 9:15, and the place was still crowded. We were jammed into an L-shape in a corner booth which was slightly uncomfortable, but the friendly waiters made up for it.

Randomly came here about 1 1/2 yrs ago with a girlfriend.. sat in the front, the table were close together, but that was ok.. remember I had the tuna and it was definitely good.. I knew Id be back.. Then around 2 months ago, my parents were in town, and in planning my agenda on places I wanted to take them, this ended up on the list. Made a reservation, so when we arrived, we walked right in with no wait at all (was at 8pm on a friday night).  We sat in the back patio area which I must say, was great.. definitely ask to sit back there if you go.  Its a glass covered  area.. with brick floors.
Dont remember everything we had, but I know my step mom had the Dorado, and she said it was the best fish she had ever had (I tasted it, it was darn good)... shared 2 bottles of wine... all in all, it was great, and my parents to this day still rave about the quality and quantiy of the food for the price we paid.. Definitely recommend it..!

Very enjoyable night, I came here for my birthday with my bf and we had a lovely evening. The place is tiny and because of its open space you can smell everything their cooking, which at times may not be the best thing (fish). Anyways, we started off with the seafood fritto which was good; however I didn't like the lemon aioli dip, it was too heavy. I had the polenta with sausage ragu and that was delish! For entrees we had the pork chops and duck which were both good but I wasn't too fond with the prunes in the pork chop dish. For dessert we had the creme puffs which were stuffed with vanilla ice cream with a chocolate sauce. Yum! Though I saw everyone ordering the toffee pudding, it looked really good, very heavy though.

UHH KILLER RESTAURANT. Simple yet unique menu...perfect for a fall afternoon. Their outdoor patio (with heating, don't fret) provides a laid-back ambience, as does the staff. My friend and I went on a Friday afternoon; there was no wait, it wasn't crowded inside, and after one too many glasses of wine, we stepped outside and were welcomed by the best shopping in the city. So let's sum this up: great location, satisfying meal, relaxed atmosphere aaand a divine wine menu.

Called for a reservation, put on hold for several minutes and no one ever came back on.  Called back then repeatedly got a busy.  Finally got through and was told to  hold, but it might take a few minutes.  33 and counting.  Maybe if they ever pick up the phone and I ever get to try the food they will get more stars.

41 minutes...I'm watching soccer, but still...

53 minutes and still connected...

Update: Both the MLS Cup game time and my hold time are in the 60th minute.

GOOOOOOOOOOAL!!!!!!!!!!!  Houston ties New England but still no reservation.

In the 63rd Minute, August picks up the phone again, says "Hello" and hangs up.  The menu looked good, but I think I'm going somewhere else.

August is a quaint, laid back place with a great neighborhood-y feel.  The exposed brick walls, and rustic wooden tables and chairs add to the continental Europe feel of the restaurant.

The service was friendly, un-pretentious, and very attentive, which is something that I can't say for a lot of West Village restaurants lately.

The food was a mix of modern European, with some old school classics thrown in.  The steamed mussels in a garlic white wine sauce were phenomenal.  I normally don't like mussels, but I gorged myself on the wonderful crusty table bread sopped in the mussel's white wine sauce.

My appetizer of cabbage stuffed with tomato reminded me of my next door Polish neighbors from my childhood.  They would always whip up a hearty and delicious stuffed cabbage with perogi's, very similar to the dish at August.

My beef "borscht" was more beef than borscht, and was melt in your mouth tender.  The nutella and banana desert, a tart of sorts, was simply amazing.

The only dish at the table that landed with a thud was the salmon entree.  It tasted frozen and a little bit off, and because of that flop, I am forced to remove a star from August's review.

I can be certain that I will return again in the near future, but will be avoiding the salmon.

The food at this place is sooooo goood.  I'm a big fan of rustic simple tasty flavorful with a pow! pow! foods.  Everything we ordered was delicious.  In fact, it was so good that we decided to order another entree after our dinner.  The place is also extremely charming, intimate, warm and what you imagine out of a small restaurant in the west village.   Our favorite dishes for the night were the brussel sprouts, special steak of the day, and roasted duck in tuscan soup.  But honestly, everything was delicious.

Tucked away in the
West Village, August just might
Hit the spot for you.

OK, end of haiku.

Some friends and I checked this place out last weekend on a Friday night. Being in the West Village, we couldn't get a reservation until 8:30. Fair enough. I'm all for reservations if we can actually get a table AT the time we make the reservation for! We arrived right on time, but were standing around for the better part of an hour before we got seated. Either people here eat A LOT or super sloooooow. Or both.

We didn't waste time, so ordered right away. I tried the duck breast, my buddy the steak and both were cooked to perfection. Small portions yes, but very satisfying ones at that. The best part of the meal though, was the wine. We had a 2005 Marge Priorat (60% Garnacha, 14% Syrah, 13% Merlot, and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 8 months in French and American oak for those who care) and found it was perfect for the meal. Dessert wise, we had some profiteroles - decent though unspectacular. I think there are better desserts to be had in the area.

So would I go back? Hmm...maybe. The initial wait time and delivery of food/drinks took a lot longer than normal and we didn't get out of there until past midnight(!) I think there are a ton of other worthy places out there so I'd have to look pretty hard for a reason to return.

Very good, but definitely did not blow my mind.

I liked the space, but did think it was a tad bit too small and it was hot! It was like eating in a sauna.

My friend and I both had the Tarte Flambe to start, which was amazing as was the wine we both had (I had a Cava, she had a Riesling).  But we both foundd our entrees to be very salty (Pork Shoulder & Steak).

Overall it was a nice meal at a reasonable price, but with so many restaurants out there..it didn't stand out.

This was the perfect place for to eat on a cold night in the winter.  The food was very good and we got a table with no reservation, when all the other places to eat in the west village had a wait of over an hour.  The staff was pleasant and the food was great.

We came in here already just a little drunk.  We decided we wanted a romantic little get away from the cold.  The wait staff decided to sit us down in a full seating area and didn't mind that we only wanted a glass or two of wine.  They were so friendly and the plants hanging from the walls were very romantic.  I can't really say much about the good but it seemed that it was very organic and classy - a lot of European folks there, good wine selection with knowledgeable staff.  We enjoyed the rustic atmosphere and simple Italian decor!

I ended up here after being faced with a too-long-wait at Extra Virgin, and was really glad I did. We got seated straightaway in a great spot, and the food was fabulous. One of those menus where you're not entirely sure what anything is going to taste like, but you suspect it's all good so just go with it. I had the grilled squid to start and pork belly special for entree, and they were both fantastic. The pork belly and the lentils it came with were a taste sensation. The cheese to finish and the wine were also excellent.

Five stars because of, and not despite the slightly strange service which I actually liked as it made the place not too perfect. Apparently the wine waiter has a drink problem, in that he doesn't. If he's that entertaining sober, I suggest he take up drinking again, as he must be truly hilarious when on the sauce.

Nice, cozy little restaurant that is homey and welcoming, especially on a cold night.  I live nearby and have always wanted to try this place.  We finally did.  It is one of those places with a small menu, I think purposely.  I like it that way.  Not too many choices to overwhelm you, but the focus is on a few really good dishes.  I had some white fish with olives - it looked really plain and kind of unappetizing, but was surprisingly good.  my fiancee had the pork shoulder, he loved it.

I have yet to dine at Per Se, The French Laundry, or Bouchon. In fact the closest I have come to the flavors of Thomas Keller has been in my own kitchen, with his cookbooks.

In a labor intensive effort to draw out their full flavor, he sautes onions for his onion soup for a minimum of five hours, and despite this fact, I am sure there is no way they could taste any better than the onions on the Tarte Flambe at August, which hailing directly from the wood burning stove is a must order.

I also had the mussels pernod as an appetizer, which were delicious in their own right and for dinner I had Slow Roasted Char, with root vegetables.

The Char was perfectly prepared, the vegetables sweet and flavorful, and the thin layer of sauce in which it sat had but one flaw, there simply wasn't enough.

The wine list was extensive and well balanced, however, only really offered bottles on the pricier side, basically starting at 40 each, which I know can be a turnoff for some.

Our waitress, was exactly what I wanted, polite, helpful, more than patient, and completely unobtrusive. I did not feel rushed at all, and it became clear upon my exit that there was a line at the door.

As far as ambiance, this place was great for the winter, wood burning stove, charming brick walls, and the back dining room had a glass ceiling similar to a greenhouse.

Overall it was a great dining experience, worthy of the rather hefty price tag.....

Just one word of advice, don't get drunk and ask for the bathroom.....its down the steepest set of stairs you've ever seen outside a 12th century European castle.

Went here for brunch with Rena and Eddie. Chef is from Hawai'i and the restaurant had a great reputation so I begged them to meet me here.

Loved most of the entrees. The roasted grapes didn't do it for me.

If you wanna do Sunday brunch here, come right at 11am, when they open.  One hour later and you're in Line Hell.

I'm returning for dinner.

Four stars for one thing: the tarte flambe. Onion and bacon! Goodness on pie dough! I can eat like nine of these things and then order nine more. If anything, August gets this review because of that menu item.

I went on a really slow midday late lunch, so besides one other table, it was just me and my friend. It was great; the patio was gorgeous and the dining room quaint. Its a charming place with a sweet ambience; the only thing is, despite the two tables, the service was a little spotty.

Must go back for dinner. I'm intrigued about that Oktoberfest thing they have, as well as a few of their entres.

was there last night with my friend brad from SF. we sat in the back room; it was super cute.

he had the fish special, and it was yummy per him. i had, once again, sides, since there was no main dish for vegetarians. the roasted brussel sprouts were delish but the square dish of melted cheese with some broccoli in it was a bit heavy (but of course i ate it all).

what was notable were the desserts... we had the pot de creme which was good but the real star was the white chocolate pear thing. the outside of the white chocolate was coated in something that reminded me of the coating of a good humor strawberry shortcake ice cream bar. yum! and the pear was big and yummy-rific.

i think i need to focus my dining experiences on more veggie-friendly places. i am losing my nativity and optimism that new york restaurants  consider non-meater eaters. :( i'm being beaten down, help!!

ask me why i am going the spotted pig and steak frites for lunch over the next week and i'll tell you that it was not my recommendation and i am being treated by vendors. so i guess i'll be reviewing those side dishes soon too.

-1 star for not having anything other than melted cheese for vegetarians (what if i was vegan for god's sake?) and -1 star for the bathroom having pee all over the floor and smelling rank.

BUT - and this is exciting - there was a hook in the bathroom!! YAY!!!

August is a great month.  It's warm outside, a great time to go to the pool, relax in the park, or stage an outdoor all-day drinking event (ADDE).  The one drawback is that there are a bunch of annoying kids out on the street because the little yappers aren't back in school yet.

Oh wait a minute, this is supposed to be a review for the restaurant, not the month?  This site is way too confusing.

Well in that case, August the restaurant is pretty solid too.  Really no major drawbacks, although I will withhold the 5th star only because it didn't do anything to REALLY impress me, the prices are not cheap, and the service is not great.  It's also a little bit crowded, although the overall setting is very comforting, especially in the colder non-August months.

The food is excellent.  Unfortunately I was constrained by the fact that it was a Friday in Lent and I had to make up for a few bad things I'd done (you know, the usual stuff...stealing money from Salvation Army collections, beating up transvestite hookers, pushing crack-cocaine on second-graders) by not eating meat.  Instead, I tried the slow-roasted char and steamed mussels.  The char was very succulent and the slices of fish slid off as easily as your sister's clothes in the biker bar restroom after she's had a few beers.  The mussels were well-prepared and came bathed in an extremely legit creamy fennel sauce.  The old ball-and-chain was there with me - she had the roasted duck and thought very highly of it.  Two things I wish I could have ordered were the Tarte Flambe and the Chocolate Pot de Creme.  If I could have gotten my hands on either one of those, I would have wolfed it down like (insert your own Rosie O'Donnell joke here - I'm all out of them).

I also have to applaud this place for its well-chosen beer selection.  I had a Rochefort Trappistes 6 and an Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock, both of which were so good I would probably choose them over water if I were dying of thirst in the middle of the Sahara Desert.

August for my first August review.

Cozy nook, a little on the dimly-lit side, narrow, dark and with an old flavor to it; I came here on restaurant week with Claire Y. but upon looking at the RW assigned menu, I recoiled a little and decided to go with the standard.

Wine selection was welcome and we ordered a bottle of Riesling, Mohr Trocken, 2004, which I'm sorry to say, my companion was drinking in very short supply, resulting in me getting totally hammered later on that night. Wine was delish though.

For appetizers I had the Octopus and potatoes a la plancha, and I have to say that this is one of the best grilled octopus I've ever tried; it was grilled to perfection, yet retaining the chewy constitution and moisture due to a good octopus.

For main course I thought I had ordered a Lamb fillet, so I panicked upon seeing ribs served on my plate! Ribs annoy me because aside from being too graphic, they are totally unsatisfying to the nurturing process since there's so little meat on a single rib (therefore you have to devour at least 8), and it can be cumbersome to use fork and knife (even for a skilled puppy like myself) if the rib has not been properly cooked; all these reasons were hushed away one by one; the meat was tender and it fell off at the first stroke of the knife as if it were butter, the caramelized taste was delicious and I felt thoroughly satisfied with the proportion and taste.

So yeah, I'll give August a 4 (sorry Claire) and I might add that this is a great place to come with charming company for hours on end of conversation (since they take too damn long in bringing the food)

It PAINS me to do this (after having been encouraged by SO MANY to try this place... all that hype), but I am rather compelled to give this place a mere 2 stars after my disappointing RW dinner.  I recognize that it is sadly a pretty common knowledge that RW menus are often not the best showcase of the featured restaurant.  But, ya know what, here was their chance at securing another patron by offering me a jaw-dropping meal.... and they, well, bombed it.

First, our waiter (note: not waitress) seemed to be having some major PMS.  GOOD LORD.  He didn't show a smile until my dining partner felt compelled to make jokes with him.

Anyway, my meal (straight off of RW menu) consisted of:

Corn and chanterelle soup (nice of the waiter to omit the critical info, "That may look like filo dough, but it's really parchment paper... don't eat it."  Of course, I started chewing on the damn thing long enough to hurt my jaw.)  - it wasn't bad, but definitely not thrilling.  (I could've made it better at home!)

Grilled bluefish (too salty to my taste.  Also, I got sick of it after a few bites.)

Blueberry clafouti - this actually was the least unpleasant part of the meal.  I actually enjoyed it quite a bit.  Ya know what - alright, I'll ease off a bit - I really enjoyed this.

So, overall, it was about two-star worth in quality of food, service, and ambiance (yeah, we got stuck seating in a dingy corner in the front room).  Perhaps I should give it another try and review it again?  Hm, well that's worth debatable.  For now, though, I'm leaning towards.... not so much.

Went on a Sunday afternoon for brunch in early December. The ricotta cheese with marmalade and pistachio topping was "amazingly delcious." Another friend really enjoyed the yiddish eggs, while the homemade galvalox(sp?) "was perfect..soooo good!" service was excellent, and try and sit in the heated covered patio area. Beware of waits, but apparently they now take reservations. Definitely worth going back to!

I had dinner a few times here and the food is really good.  The orata and the Tarte Flambe are my favorites.  If you go for lunch try the Grilled Peppered Steak Salad.  I love the space which is cozy and the staff is courteous.

I say "eh, whatever" to YOU, August.  Yes, you are adorable. I give you a star just for that. However, you are pricey, and your food was inconsistent, and your service slow. Specifics about the food: the onion/cremefresh tart  starter was DELICIOUS. However, that was the only thing that was flat out delicious.  I then had the seared tuna, which was strangely overdone for something "seared", and then a very disappointing chestnut/chocolate "cake" which tasted like a weight-watchers ice cream sandwich. Bizarre. I won't be going back.

Unique and quaint - reminds me of the small BYO's in Philly.  Charming and dim setting with a quasi Italian menu.  The food was delicious - including flat bread and pizza appetizers and lots of fish seafood dishes - and the Sommelier (or actually the Host) was pretty easy on the eyes too (all eyes agreed).

Oh something to note, the bread pudding is a pleasant not-too-sweet surprise.

The ambiance definitely sells here - went last night and sat out on the patio.  It's v romantic and definitely sets the tone for a delicious evening.

But the menu was a bit different from the reviews I'd read, and I'm sad to say that nothing totally jumped out at me.  I wound up eating the Halibut smothered in olive oil/butter/lemon - to die for.  But in general it wasn't that memorable.  For romantic dining, I like Cafe Cluny better!

Lets see, where to begin... I love this site already! Thanks Mike for introducing yelp to me!

I suppose I could start with my newest happy eating experience~

August is a small, cozy restaurant with an atrium-like seating area in the back. The ceiling is made out of glass, much like that of a greenhouse, for you to star gaze when it's not raining out.
The exposed brick walls and floor make for a warm, hearthy feel. Perfect place to bring a date.

I found the food to be pretty good... but a bit on the pricey side.
Their Napa Cabbage Wedge with Gorgonzola was quite fresh and tasty, although a pain to cut up with the knife they give you. The Lavosh with Beets and Spiced Walnut Puree is like a very thin crust pizza with all sorts of delicious toppings sprinkled on.  And the Roasted Pork Belly and Braised Cheeks was braised just the right amount till the meat was soft and moist, melting right in your mouth. The stewed lentils and kumquat confit that comes with the pork complements the meat well... dancing on your taste buds to the last bite.

Wide beer and wine selection as well.

Be careful making your way to the restrooms though, the staircase down to the toilet is quite narrow and dangerously steep.

Went here for the first time on Saturday. We arrived at 10:45 a.m. so we walked around for a bit. We got back there at 11:05 and it was almost completely packed! we sat in the atrium in the back. So many pluses contribute to this being 5 star. Great service, the eggs with onion and bacon was delicious, friendly waitstaff and rustic setting. I've been to lots of the top brunch places in NY and this is definitely among the Top 3. Just a very good meal with a very good setting. I went to Jane the next day and wish I had gone back to August instead.
Next time, probably next week, I'll be ordering the Steak and Eggs which not only looked delicious but not too filling. I told my buddy to check out august  the next day and he told me that the steeak and eggs were as good as they looked. Well done August!
