My favorite chinese restaurant in louisville!

my family and i used to go here to seriously splurge... we are a family of 5... but we would always always order 7 plates and share.. and i recall being so full for a good 2 days. but everything there is amazing!

amongst the must haves were the general chicken, mongolian beef, and fried noodles!

august moon is a definite must try. im pretty sure it will turn into a favorite! :D

Beautiful restaurant with a flavorful albeit a tad sweet Hot and Sour soup and brown rice should add up to an enjoyable meal, but overall August Moon left me disappointed. We must have caught our server/manager on a bad day because she seemed a little short. Granted, we did wait until after being led into the main dining room to decide we wanted to sit at the bar, but does that really warrant an attitude? Maybe an internal, "Geez people, figure it out...," but not an outward huff.

Things continued to get more awkward when my husband asked to speak to a manager (despite my insistence to leave it alone), and we were informed that our server was in fact the manager!

Oh well, I was determined to make the best of it. However, the vegetable with tofu stir fry in brown sauce was uninspiring. The vegetable line-up was saddened by baby corn and water chestnuts. The brown sauce was ok, but there were no notable flavors dancing on my taste buds. The tofu was chewy with a waxy flavor. Credit for brown rice and a nice Hot and Sour, but everything else was disappointing American Chinese done without much flavor.

Wow, shockingly bad attitude from the manager. I understand people have bad days, but... Manager tries to seat us in the dining room, and I ask if we can sit at the bar instead so we can watch football, and the Manager rolls her eyes, huffs, and says, "They're only 6 minutes left in the game." We soon realize that if we sit at the bar, the Manager has to wait on us. Clearly, she wasn't in the mood to wait on us. So weird!

The food was mediocre at best. Totally wannabe American Chinese - even Panda Express puts this place to shame. The hot and sour soup was strangely sweet, the orange rind chicken was overfried and oversweet - the only thing saving it was the available brown rice option. Tofu with vegetables in garlic sauce was OK, but it was riddled with inedible fillers: baby corn and slimy thimble mushrooms. The tofu dish also had a small portion of unevenly cut bell peppers. So disappointing. If the lunch special here was 6 or 7 bucks, fine. But it is $9.50+, and that is a bad value considering the bad attitude. We left hungry and in an "Oh well" mood, coming up with theories on why the Manager acted the way she did towards us. Fancy plates do not make food taste any better than it is. So watch out because this is definitely a fancy plate kind of place. Spoken like a car guy, "All show, no go."

For the record, I do appreciate American Chinese. I am a connoisseur of General Tso's Chicken, all things Hot Garlic Sauce, and anything in Spicy Black Bean Sauce. I eat out once or twice a day every day of my life, and it is only once in an August Moon that I experience such a bad attitude from a restaurant worker, let alone a restaurant Manager.

One of the most uncomfortable meals of recent memory.

The food here is good. I have always been satisfied by what I've ordered, but P.F. Chang's is also just as good --if not better at times. That should not be the case for a local, more upscale restaurant.  They simply aren't living up to their prices or reputation.  The food is so Americanized so I have a hard time labeling it as an authentic Chinese restaurant --it isn't. I understand that they have to cook for the customer --but maybe add some streamed fish (which is a dish served in countless Chinese restaurants) or dim sum. How about some sauteed baby bok choy or choi sum?  Cake noodle? Please? I am so tired of going to these restaurants and all I see is sweet and sour chicken or general tso's --Chinese food is SO much better than that.

All of that said, the food here is tasty. The service is excellent and the restaurant is beautiful. It is a good restaurant --not great, not amazing, but good.

Oh, August Moon - please don't be another restaurant coasting on its reputation.

We stopped in last weekend because my friends were in the mood for "good Chinese."  As always, August Moon looked the part of the hip, swanky nouveau Asian restaurant.

The cocktail menu was on board with the theme.  (Green tea martini? Yes, please)

The starter menu was half-priced when we arrived - I love when happy hour deals exist on the weekend too.

But the food just wasn't what I remembered.  We didn't come here for "meh" - but alas, that was my impression of the food.

My ginger garlic shrimp wasn't particularly gingery or particularly garlicky.  The dumplings were bland.  The calamari was good, but it is tough to mess up fried.

Ultimately, I was disappointed.  This would have been fine for the dive-y place on the corner, but August Moon is no dive.

I'll probably give them another chance in the hopes that this was just an off night, but as there are no shortage of restaurants in this town, they better step up their game.

Swank. Swank. Swank.    August Moon stands above every other Chinese Restaurant in the city, as far as atmosphere goes.   It's a very hip and trendy spot to go to.  I'm not about hip and trendy places, but definately a feeling of not being in Kentucky anymore.  Yes, it's your typical Chinese food that is served, but the quality of the food is wonderful.   They have an excellent vegetarian selection.

If you go there on a Friday night, you might have to wait.  However, the Bar is comfortable.  Always excellent service.

    My favorite sit-down Chinese restaurant!

I always get chicken stir fry! I love it. Their wonton soup is delicious and their pork wontons are pretty tasty, too.

The only downside is that it's a little expensive and far away, so I usually only come 2 or 3 times a year. But when I do it's a treat!

The building is pretty modern, and most people are dressed a little nicer than basic jeans & a tee, but come wearing whatever. If you look a little "ragged" the worst thing that could happen is you get taken to the secondary dining area if they are pretty busy...

This place has an atmosphere more common in southern California than in Kentucky, and as such, it's always a refreshing change of pace for me.

On our last visit in April 2008, we found the staff attentive, the vegetarian fare well above average, but perhaps not as far above as our bill would support.

Still, I find a lot more about August Moon to praise than criticize and have never had a bad experience here.

I liked this place. On a snowy Saturday the restaurant the huge picture windows looked out on a great winter scene. That is to say I like the look and feel of the place.

The prices are incredible an app, Vietnamese coffee, entree, and soup for $20 with tip.

The food was good and the Vietnamese coffee particularly hit the spot.  The egg drop soup stood out.

Went with my wife at around 10pm on a Friday Night.  They stop seating at 1030, so we were pretty late but not too bad.  We had some miscommunication on who our waitress was exactly so it took a while to get our food.

I thought the food was pretty good, but I wasn't super impressed.  We ate outside but probably should have eaten inside because it looked beautiful in there.

I certainly felt like a slob the second I stepped in here in jeans and a hoodie.  Since it was nearly empty, I just behaved as if my equally dressed down companions and I had rented the place for our own private lunch.  It started off well - I had a vegetable soup that was absolutely WONDERFUL, with many distinct flavors.  However, that was the highlight of the meal.  I had a vegetable dish with carrots and peanuts in it, and everything was so hard I thought I might chip a tooth trying to bite through it.  I don't like my vegetables so labor-intensive.  The Fella had a dish that was so salty he couldn't even eat it.  Complete bummer.  Many things on the menu sounded appealing, but after that experience, I don't think I'll go back.

Wow people really say how great the food is here. Just proof that I should never listen to anyone. Typical Chinese food, nothing special. In all honesty, they should have a buffet. Also, terrible service from my waitress. I was totally unimpressed with everything. The spicy basil shrimp was not spicy and really not flavorful at all. The best thing I had was a salad. I would expect more from a local place. P. F. Chang's is better and its a chain restaurant. So, please skip this place.

Sit at the bar and chat with the hostess. She'll give you advice about vegetarian food -- not just here but all over town.

August Moon is one of our favorite restaurants in Louisville.  We go there pretty much every chance that we get.  Definitely recommend the calamari appetizer--it's the best we've ever had.  Instead of little rings of calamari like most other placed, August Moon actually cuts strips off of a filet of calamari and fries them in panko crumbs.  The dipping sauce is really what makes this dish though.  Our favorite entree would have to be the spicy orange rind chicken/beef with grand marnier reduction.  You get enough that you can either share it or have lunch the next day.  The atmosphere is pretty hip and the prices are extremely reasonable for a nice restaurant.  We can usually get out for under $40 for two dinners with an appetizer.  You can do lunch for two for around $20-$25.
