I like this pub.
Where else in Guilford can you go for a traditional bar and pub experience? Balou's is too uppidy. KC's Pub is a little too much like TGIF. Shep's is too divey. Augur's Pub falls somewhere in between and fills a nice niche.
Its only downside is that it's really small. Therefore don't go expecting a large menu because their kitchen is super tiny. They have a few basic sandwiches, soups, and burger on the menu. Their Irish specialties are corned beef sandwich and shepard's pie.
If you go early in the evening it can be tame and quiet. That's the best time to order food.
If you go later in the night and music is playing (usually a small band or one-man musician) it can get loud, crowded, and hectic. At that time I recommend just ordering drinks. -

It's walking distance from my parents house so whenever I'm back in CT to visit I always head here after dinner for a few pops.
The service is consistently good as are the prices.
They often have live music, and it's usually local and talented younger musicians. Last night the band was absolutely fantastic, some other patrons and I asked for Talking Heads and got a Talking Heads jam session that was excellent. If only I knew their name.
I have never eaten the food, not because it doesn't look good but because the Guinness and Murphy's are filling enough. -

Don't waste your time on this place unless it's just for a cold beer. I
was very disappointed in this establishment for a variety of reasons.
First, the food..... We had the Buffalo Chicken tenders for an appetizer.
They were breaded and fried, okay but nothing special. I ordered the corn
beef sandwich. When it was delivered, it looked fantastic. It was piled
high on what appeared to be real rye bread. Being a huge corn beef fan, it looked great. However, it was pure salt. So much so that there was no corn beef flavor whatsoever, total disappointment. Now I like salt butnot when it's all you taste.
My guest had the burger... Again, it looked
impressive, quite a large burger. While I didn't try it myself, my guest
said there was no flavor... probably because all the salt was used on the corn beef. We had a coupon from http://Restaurant.com for $25 off our meals. When the check came, we were informed they do not accept coupons. I politely asked to speak to the manager and the waitress sent over the owner. He appeared drunk and immediately began to scream and shout without giving us a chance to talk or ask any questions. He made quite a scene, on a Friday night when there were several other patrons. This was not only unprofessional; it was downright offensive and embarrassing. The only reason this would even rate one star is because the beer was cold and the waitress was polite. Too bad the owner can't learn from his staff. -

Augurs Irish Pub is by far my favorite local pub. Not only is there a great variety of tap beers, bottled beers, but the pours are generous and the bartenders are just super friendly. Also, the corned beef and burgers are OUTRAGEOUS!!! Love it, love it, love it.... Also, NFL sunday's are huge with free food and loads of fans....

The burgers here are very, very good. While they are not fancified with all sorts of different trimmings like you might get at Prime 16 in New Haven, the burger is every bit as good and may even be better. The bar is a friendly, welcoming place, and the owners really showed what kind of people they are after Hurricane Irene, when they offered food to people without power and gave credit to those with no cash. Good people who run a good bar.

If in the rare chance I get to heaven, my perfect bar will be waiting there for me. A friendly older bartender serving me a healthy dose of bourbon while the Yankees game is on and Tom Waits is playing in the background. The sort of place where you could wear a sweatshirt, bring a book and not get annoyed by the people and just enjoy a drink.
Augur's may not be heaven but for the sheer fact that it's 5 minutes from my house, its pretty damn close. Whenever people visit I bring them to Augurs on a Friday or Saturday night. It always has a healthy crowd, you can always find a seat and the bartenders are (usually) great.
Perfect place to go on a game night (although as an Irish bar they tend towards New England teams). The type of crowd depends on the night. I've been there and seen a 40+ crowd as well as a 21-35 crowd. Great selection of beers, good people, nice space, definitely the best shoreline bar. -

What can I say about this place....all I can think of is I will never be back. My friends and I began the evening at Ballou's next door which i recommend over this place. After Ballou's closed we walked next door and attempted to order drinks. The Manager or Owner rudely confronted my friend about showing his I.D. after he had ordered. When my friend misunderstood and replied "I'm all set" the manager said "no your not and again demanded I.D. He also demanded all of our I.D.'s as well and even made us show credit cards verifying our names as well. After about a 10 minute discussion as to why we had to show all our forms of identification we finally got our drinks drank them abruptly and promptly left. The manager also appeared to have been drinking. Enter at your own risk.

The place was great. The band was super solid. The bartender was a mean jerk. She was forceful and aggressive. The older Lady had no concern for the people that spent money there. The Band was awesome! The bartender had no regard for the happiness of the patrons of the establishment. She did not care if we were happy or not. She was mean and evasive. I will seriously question the next time I come here.

This is an unpretentious good ole Irish pub.
Always a game on one of the TV's
Good juke box plus occasional live music
Darts
Cheap but decent food like corned beef on Rye, soups, salads
An owner that's there most days and says hi, calls you by your first name
Bartenders are pleasant as can be
Full bar plus plenty of Irish beers on tap (Guinness, Harp, Smithwicks, Murphy's...) -

Simple place. Absolutely bare bones bar. This is a workingmans' 'shot-and-a-beer' joint. One bright spot: cheap food. Again, don't expect French fries and a parsley garnish, but the burgers and sandwiches are wholesome and really cheap.
