Augie's takes me back to the day's when there was a neighborhood bar on every corner with a big sign in front that read Old Style (On Tap), Schlitz, or Hams. The inside has the same vibe. The bar was filled with local's that were bitching about their wives, their jobs and ogling the table of girls at the other end of the bar. Ah! The Chicago bar scene, just like I remember it from my youth.

Here's the bottom line. If you want a taste what Chicago was like 30 years ago, head on down to Augie's. You won't find any Yuppies, Hipsters or Tech nerds surfing the web on their I-pads. It's just a bunch of locals, shooting the shit and watching a ball game. In other words, it's my kind of place.

I stopped by Augie's on a Saturday evening and it was in many ways a taste of my Wisconsin home. It felt like going back to my local church picnic.

I was immediately impressed by the Christmas decorations that illuminated the entire bar. The place was filled with people in their 20s like myself all the way up to some people in their 80s. You could tell this was a place for locals. Even though I'm not a regular people were friendly and it was a really laid back, comfortable place. A free buffet of mostaccioli and Italian Beef hit the spot and beer was cheap.

My kind of place. A real neighborhood bar with reasonable prices, good food and fun people. I wish there were more bars like this.

Bathrooms are so small that the doors don't open all the way - probably cause there's a toilet conveniently there, and the air conditioning blasts at one particular spot, which always seems to be the only empty table, so we HAVE to sit there. Good thing we're not a high-maintenance group of people.

But, the BEST part about Augie's, besides the TV's in the floor (not), is the sand volleyball court they have out back. We have so much fun here, that we've decided to drop out of the Montrose volleyball league that we're in, so we can spend our Thursdays effing around in Augie's backyard. A court to ourselves and drink breaks between points. Man, that's the life.

We usually end up ordering mass amounts of their fried appetizers. Quesadillas are plain, onion rings are pretty good, and jalapeno poppers and tots are a must have. Skip out on the Medium Mixed Basket of 5 appetizer for $28...not the best deal since none of the appetizers are more than $5 each. Haha, nice try Augie's!

The second best thing is the service. We can get a little rowdy...ok, a lotta rowdy, but the servers are very sweet and stay patient - always checking on us and ready to refill our bucket of beers. Bartenders are characters as well.

Third best? The crowd. Well duh, cause we go there. No but really, great people - all regulars. Went in wearing a U of I - Urbana/Champaign shirt, and some alumni bought us shots. Haha, loved it.

Love this place. Best bartenders in the city.

They love Christmas more than Santa does, Valentines day more than Cupid, Halloween more than... well, you get the idea. They are always overly decorated, creating an awesome atmosphere for just hanging out, having a few drinks, and eating some of their tasty behind the bar Cajun and Fire in the Hole Jerky.

I just love Augie's around Christmastime. It looks like Santa threw up all over the bar. In a good way. The decorations are insane.

I hosted a holiday party there last night and it was just perfect.  $25 all-you-can-drink from 8-11 and they let me bring in my own appetizers (thank you Costco).  As the evening progressed, I ended up ordering a giant platter of fried apps for all (choose 5 from the menu for $28).  It was a huge hit.

I called twice to make sure everything was all set and each time they were super nice and accommodating.   Thanks Augie's.

    Highly recommend.

I would classify Augie's as a dive bar except they charge $5 for a bottle of Corona. $5, really?

Augie's is long and narrow, so if there's live music like this past Saturday night, expect the bar to be packed like sardines. I was one of those sardines! Wouldn't be quite so uncomfortable if the joint didn't smell like grandma's musty basement. But don't worry - after about 20 minutes, you'll acclimate to the smell.

It's pretty kitschy in here, too - there's strings of Christmas lights everywhere and there's even a few TVs on the floor. Some regular told me the owners 'borrowed' the idea from some famous bar in New Orleans. At least I think he said New Orleans!

Bar staff is cool... very cool! Oh, and parking in this area is really tough, so be warned.

I lived a block from here for the past 2-years and only made it in here once.

It looks great with a beach volleyball pit in the back, tables for sidewalk seating which fill up with people in softball team shirts and pretty decent prices on drinks.

My one experience was pretty decent as the small amount of people here had incredible character to fill the room. Very inviting and unpretentious, the few hours spent were amusing and entertaining and  pretty cool.

If you are in the LP west, out for some grocery shopping in the mall., stop on through for a beer as it is just as good as any in the hood.

The "Chipotle Chicken Wrap" gets three stars, but the ambiance makes Augie's a four-star affair. Augie's look and feel is reminiscent of the bar in the television show "Cheers" ... and the staff appears to know most patrons by name.

The fare is a good notch above bar food. We sat down to a sub-$8 Chipotle Chicken Wrap with the sauce on the side. The chicken was well-cooked, the produce surprisingly tasty given the season, and the [almost] steak-cut French fries were excellent. Excellent.

The bar decor changes with the seasons, adding a twist to the impressive 50-foot long bar. Other seating includes highboy tables and stools and a few tables and chairs for good measure.

Overall, a solid performance by Augie's for this out-of-towner. If I lived nearby, bets are on that I would have an even greater affinity for this place.

Wow, if you want to celebrate Christmas then head to Augies - booze and shmooze for sure!

Extremely bright lights greet you when passing through the front door, which of course are oh so soothing once you've knocked back a few drinks.  And if you like music then you're in for a treat.  The juke last night spun 38 Special and the Monkeys, what a combo, yeah.

If Christmas isn't your thing, then catch up on your favorite sporting event.  Even if you've fallen down drunk catch a few plays on the floor mounted TV.  I'll even let the guys in on a little secret; if you're girlfriend is chatting too much (women really need to take up sports when they're young so they can understand us men better) but you'd rather watch the game, then just catch a few plays on the floor TV's so you can pretend that you're in deep thought - she'll never know the difference!

    Augie's.

The anti-Lincoln Park... Lincoln Park bar.

A great corner bar with outdoor seating, and sand volleyball in the back.
Good bartenders, and zero of the typical LP attitude.  The food is also well above average for bar food.  Parking is free in the lot across the street in the evenings and on the weekends which is a huge plus in the neighborhood.  A great place to get a drink without the usual hassles.

Think Cheers .... Small corner bar, the service is great and they are not afraid to buy you a drink.  They have decent fried food if you are hungry and also have homemade jerky if you get the munchies.

The more I go to Augie's the more and more I like it.  Cozy neighborhood bar with a relaxed and kitschy atmostphere.  There are plenty of christmas lights and string lights all over the place, a train track running around the ceiling, a TV in the floor, a jukebox with not a single bad song and enough TVs to keep any sports fan happy.  They usually go overboard decorating for any major holiday and even some of the minor ones, but that's all part of the fun right?  The outdoor seating is clutch during the summer too.

There's nothing amazing about the beer here, decent selection, but the bartenders take good care of you (as does the waitstaff).  I always feel welcome.  Can't say a whole lot about the food, it's standard bar fare and to be honest, I don't go there to eat so the 4-stars really applies to the "bar" experience sans food.

Augie's Booze & Schmooze is a phenomenal sports bar with great ambiance, music, drinks, food and staff. They have various special events throughout the year, their Annual Luau offered a great band, Frank Sinatra impersonator, and so much more. They also have a sand volleyball court. During the summer months, they offer outdoor patio seating. Pizza cooked to order plus a great full service menu offering a variety of food options. ATM, Sponsor Sports Teams, Perfect Venue for any special event. I love this venue, we drive in from Waukegan, IL to join friends. You can truly let your hair down at Augie's Booze & Schmooze. Great Bartenders and wait staff!

My softball team comes here after games, I wouldnt normally come here on my own- its a weird scene as other reviews have described. But I find the weirdest thing being that there are TVs on the floor and that the last time I was there I saw some kids in there hanging out while their parents yelled at the game. The food is good enough to eat more then once and the beer is cheap. For some that is all you need.

This place reminds my boy of being back in Detroit. I'm not sure if he means that in a good way. The food is ok here. It's only a couple blocks from my house, so that's worth a star. We got beers on tap and they were pretty flat...so maybe stick to bottles here. But it is pretty empty and relaxed, so we liked that.

Great "sports" (dive-ish) bar.  Service is exceptional, crowd is eclectic.  Mandatory stop after a Cub's game, but it's more tradition than location.  Give it a try!

Went to Augie's last night to celebrate Halloween. Augie's is a neighborhood dive bar where everyone either knows your name. The bartenders are really friendly as was everyone I met the entire night. Seriously, I don't think I bought a drink the entire night and I had a lot of drinks and perhaps a few too many shots!  My friend and I ordered the sputhwesrtern burrito appetizer. They are mini burritos (egg roll size) served with sour cream and salsa. They were yummy but then again everything taste good after a few drinks. For Halloween they had a dj and a costume contest. Not sure if they had drink specials since I didn't actually buy any of my drinks. I roils definitely go back again because of the friendly service and even friendlier locals.

Great neighborhhod bar with excellent service by the bartenders. I live about 100 yards from the place, which makes it an easy choice to come by the bar. But, I've been coming here for about 5 years due to the laid back atmosphere and bartenders that provide excellent service. it's definitely a great place to come with friends for a laid back evening of drinking and watching sports.

If you're looking for a bar to meet trixies and get a martini (although they do make them), this might not be the bar for you. It has a unique crowd of 50 year old + guys that have been coming to the bar for years, softball players during the week, 30 year olds that live in the nieghborhood and random people in their 20's, but somehow the mix works. Food is Ok and has been improving and is the main reason they get 4 stars rather than 5 stars. But, it is fine basic bar food and decently prived.

Easily the worst bar on the north side of Chicago.  Generally, I love the old neighborhood places - which Augies is - but this place stinks.  Terrible food and incredibly piss poor service about sums it up.  If you are not an old-timer who has been going there for years and years forget about.  You don't exist there.  And the old man that owns the place is not a nice person.
