Five stars for the soup. I could care less if they had anything else. They have the best (and least expensive) soup selection around.

The 4 grain French bread is the best to get a sandwich on. The sandwiches are pretty good and fairly substantial. Don't go for things like bagels, the place has a French name for god's sake. My favorite is Black Forest ham and brie with dijon mustard, YUM!
The bagels here hands-down the worst in the city. The street vendors bagels are better and will cost you 75% less.
It gets one extra star above total crap just for the ease of use - plus in a pinch the street vendor doesn't take my Visa and Au Bon Pain does.

I sorta feel embarrassed that I frequent this chain, but this place isnt the evil corporation a la Starbucks and Walmart. As mentioned by others on this thread, they have REALLY good soup. There's usually like 6 varieties every day and they even conveniently have this little card with the daily schedule for a 2 month period. What a personal touch by the corporation!
Also, im puzzlingly addicted to their sweet cheese danish. There's something about Danishes that pretty much all bakeries seem to screw up. Amazingly, au bon pain has solved the riddle! It tastes fabulous. I usually dont like pastries, but I crave this danish.

Yeah, it might be tourist-y and pricey...but I can't get paninis like these in CA.
boo hoo
But I do think it's a hit or miss. Maybe more likely to be a hit in the morning and early afternoon and a miss in the later afternoon and evening when everything is no longer fresh and only the leftovers are left over.

I want to marry their chocolate croissant. They also have really good iced coffee and fresh rolls. Carb lovers paradise.

too touristy, too expensive, so why waste time here while you can get way better soul food at a cheaper price!
AU BON PLAIN!

SOUL FOOD?? Not in the usual sense.

tho this isn't the specific au bon pain i went to, it's a chain, they're all the same. the soups are great, and filling, not to mention healthy. perfect for cold winter lunches (like today!)
otherwise, the bakery has some great tasty treats when you're feeling like saying "to hell with calories."
who said au bon pain was just in hospital waiting areas and colleges?! live a little, give it a chance.

Good place near campus...discounts with student ID. I don't do any of their salads or sandwiches, I usually just get breakfast food here like croissants.
I pretty much only go here for the soup. It's about a 5 block walk from work to get here, but when I want some really good soup, this is the only place that will do the job!
I especially reccomend the harvest pumpkin and the broccoli cheddar.
Oh, and watch your step when leaving! I tripped over the step on the way out once and totally took a nose-dive onto the sidewalk. Not cool.
Soup makes me warm. Pumpkin soup makes me warmer. And delicious. Go ahead, try me.

This place is a highly overpriced chain but I admit, I love it. It's one of the better ones... they have a lot of sandwich options and the deserts are fresh baked and soooo good.
They have great soups and wraps here. It's also helpful that the nutrition information is made available so you know exactly what you're eating. The prices are pretty fair too for the quality of food you're getting.
This is a great place to stop for a quick breakfast (the ham-and-cheese frittata is sensational), hearty lunch, or an afternoon snack to bring back to the office or your NYU dorm. They offer an expansive menu of sandwiches, wraps, salads, soups, and baked goods that are not only inventive but, in many cases, healthy for you as well, and nutrition guides enable you to pick and choose according to your dietary needs. If calories, carbs, and fat grams are of no concern, or you're ready to throw caution to the wind - for today, at least - dive into smoked turkey, Swiss, and jalapeno guacamole topped with snow peas and tomatoes on a baguette; grilled chicken with Gorgonzola, caramelized onions, and chili-Dijon spread on focaccia; or roasted red pepper hummus, feta, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, cucumbers, greens, and sun-dried tomato spread in a lahvash wrap. Be sure to save room for a cookie, Danish, strudel, or muffin - available in low-fat versions if you need to assuage your guilt.

oh chicken caesar wrap how i love thee. the asiago cheese, the caesar dressing, and the lavash. if an au bon pain opened up near columbia i would eat you every day. always get it freshly made, the premade ones taste like crap. the toffee cookies and krispy kreme donuts are good too.
