Review from Michelle S.

I've wanted to visit Hawaii and see a waterfall for as long as I can remember. I saw the ATV Outfitters flyer at the airport and knew THIS would be the most exciting way to fulfill my wish. And it didn't require hiking for miles, yippee!
We chose the 22 Mile Deluxe Waterfall & Rainforest Adventure. Our guides Daryl & Kepa made the trip fun. They found tasty indigenous morsels for us to sample at our stops, like Opihi ( Hawaiian limpets) & liliquoi (passion fruit).
The scenery was breathtaking and Hubs driving like a maniac in our lil Polaris left me breathless. The three hour tour passed in a flash. The whole experience was so worth the money. Even the scary, steep, slippery climb down and back up from the waterfall was worth the exertion. That's what I kept telling myself as I was sucking wind halfway up the climb, feeling my legs and lungs burning... -

We went on the 2 plus hour tour that hits up the waterfalls in North Kohala and were absolutely BLOWN AWAY.
The dudes who took us on the tour were cool as hell (I dont remember their names). Riding those ATV's through the hills and forests is an experience i'll never forget. The views, the terrain, the fruit from the trees, the waterfalls...just incredible.
The only negative were the 2 idiots driving in front of me and Shilpa, who were slow as hell and driving like they were on riding lawnmowers.
Note to people that do this adventure: ITS NOT A RIDING LAWNMOWER! ITS AN ATV!! That means ALL TERRAIN VEHICLE. You dont have to stop when you come to a puddle, you idiot. It's going to be ok. Take the puddle and the bump in the road like a man and keep it moving. I HATE YOU!
Sorry...
But yeah, at the end the dudes even told us where we could get some Kava Juice down the road and put us on to some stuff the locals do.
DEFINITELY one of the highlights of my trip. I'd recommend to ANYONE heading this way. -

After a disappointing Volcano trip on Monday, we were going to lay low and just stay by the lagoon by our hotel and snorkel for the day. I got bored doing that after and hour and had talked to Hala the other day on the phone about atv adventers. we decided to bite the bullet and give it a try. the prices were cheaper than listed on the website, which is always a bonus. We did the waterfall package on a side by side, apparently my traveling companion doesn't trust me on my own rig, which was a good thing, got to take a ton of pics and let him enjoy his need for speed. Everyone working here was super nice and really cool, our guide Kaeo was a pretty cool guy. We went all over the hills towards the waterfall which you have a short hike to, wasn't too bad going down, but definitely shows how out of shape I am hiking back up. I didn't go in the water, but my partner did and said it was totally refreshing...
to echo some of the other yelpers, I would totally recommend this, next time i would do the delux tour, they were booked when i wanted to sign up. our guide also mentioned a kayak tour they do that goes underground, would love to do that one too...definitely next time...
one suggestion..bring something to cover your nose and mouth, unless you don't mind inhaling the dust of the guy in front of you... -

We went on the deluxe tour on 4/8/2011 and loved every minute of it. Our guide, Daryl, was funny and knew what he was talking about. If I remember correctly, he was 5th generation Hawaiian. He took pictures of my wife and I at all 3 stops. I enjoyed the first stop at the pebble beach overlooking the cliffs and large surf. The second stop was okay overlooking several smaller waterfalls. However, our third and final stop was a beautiful waterfall where you could swim in the refreshing pond. Oh yea, the hike down was easy, but the hike back up those steps will leave you winded your legs a little sore. It's all good because they provide water bottles, juice and granola bars as part of their service.
This tour reminds me of horseback riding on Kauai, however, this fun excursion offers a bit more 'giddy-up' and dirt in your face adventure rolled into one. It's a must DO if you're on the Big Island. -

Did the deluxe tour. Tons of riding, and some great things to see. Amazing views from their private property on the North Shore. Ride goes to a waterfall only accessible by ATV that you can walk right down to the base of. Really cool to be able to do.
I highly recommend doing this if you are going to be on the Big Island. -

We had never ridden ATVs before so we took their shorter historical tour. It ended at a beautiful cliff above the ocean, which was where King Kamehameha lived.
We felt they were knowledgeable about the area and fun to talk with. We will do it again on a future trip and take one of their longer tours.
I'm in my mid 50's and was traveling with my husband and 19-year old daughter. It was one of our trip highlights. -

Born and raised in Hawaii, I truly appreciate an adventure that shows the locals a different side of paradise that we rarely see. Highly recommended for visitors and residents alike!

Really great time! Fun, safe, professional, and not too tiring. Tour guides were good. A little expensive, but definitely worthwhile.

Our family loved this. We chose to the mountain/waterfall tour and were very impressed. It seemed like it was much longer than the 2 hours. We all had so much fun. From start to finish it was professional and fun. We had many great scenic stops along the way for some beautiful photos and even stopped and hiked down to the last waterfall where all the kids swam. It was by far one of the most fun things we did on our trip. We will go back next time and do it again.

We have done and seen just about everything on the Big Island -- as part time residents in Hawaii -- we were greatly surprised at how many new things we saw and experienced on this ride. We took the deluxe long ride -- 5 of us including two kids. Our guide Darryl and trail boss Joey were knowledgeable and friendly. The waterfalls were a little short on water due to the long drought but still beautiful none the less. Our kids swam beneath the final waterfall. Along the trail we saw lots of wildlife -- including a wild boar! Even rode along the Historic Kohala Ditch. The ATVs were easy to ride and if you could gage the amount of fun we had by how dirty we were then you know it was a good time!

This was by far our favorite thing we did while in Hawaii! Our guides were knowledgeable and laid back. They fully equipped us, and we all felt very safe even though most of our group had not used ATVs before. The sites we saw were beautiful and not something you would have otherwise scene.

While I was visiting my aunt in Hilo a grade school friend stopped by to hang out. Having nothing else to do we got some food and decided go check the out zipline's. Unfortunately the zipline tour was booked with tourists so we we decided to go next door to ATV Outfitters. My friend and I payed and hopped onto our ATV's. The guides took us on a tour around a track to see if we were suited to ride and after that we rolled out. The only problem we had was when an older couple's jeep-type-truck broke down and the rest of us had to stop and wait for them to catch up. Otherwise it was freakin' awesome.

I wanted to do a helicopter tour at VNP but my husband gets motion sick and a couple we met while on our trip to Lana'i said they don't get motion sick and even they couldn't take the helicopter. I was really nervous about this, the only other time I rode an ATV I crashed into a tree! They let me try a test lap around their grounds and I wasn't strong enough to maneuver the ATV, so they let me ride on the back of one with a tour guide. It was great, I had the best seat in the house! Rolling hills, blue ocean, macadamia nut, papaya, and guava trees. . .and cows! I was with the guide and he had to herd them! We also stopped at two waterfalls and swam at one of them. My husband had a great time on the ATVs too, but didn't see as much. "The first half I was so concerned about driving, all I saw were the cow pies on the path." But he thought it was exhilarating, you really go in all terrain --- streams, rocks, trees, mud. It was a pretty clear day and we could see all the way to Maui.

We checked out the tour of the waterfall, which was amazing. Kalani was our tour guide and he gave us gear (helmet, face mask, goggles, gloves) and showed us how to use our ATVs on a test course. Then, we headed out. (My boyfriend and I were the only people on the tour, so we got the star treatment- personal tour!) We headed out from the start point and drove through some fields for awhile, getting nice and dusty. Remember to wear long pants to protect your legs from the heat of the engine, and to wear close toed shoes. Don't wear clothes you don't want to get dirty because you get very dusty. We drove through some rainforest, and we ended at a vista of a beautiful waterfall. We stopped to take some pictures and headed out even further into the forest. We ended in a secluded pasture and hiked down to the base of a very tall waterfall, surrounded by tropical rainforest. It was beautiful, pristine, and private. We stripped down to our swimsuits (we wore them under our clothes) and jumped into the water. We swam across to the base of the waterfall and sat on some rocks, letting the waterfall splash on us. The scenery was beautiful and truly romantic. Kalani was kind enough to take pictures of us. He thought we were crazy because the water is "cold" but it's nothing like Yosemite water or Tahoe water. This water comes from a natural spring, so it's not ice melt like most waterfall sources I've seen. Kalani told us the whole property we were driving on is owned by some big Japanese corporation. They originally had plans to turn it into a resort, but the locals protested, so now it's being kept in its preserved state. Because it's privately owned, you have to sign up with a tour to see the land. I felt very lucky to have gotten a chance to see this beautiful waterfall. After our swim, we dried off immediately (no need for towels) and headed back to the ATV Outfitters site. They had a bathroom available for us to wash off and change our clothes. I was very pleased with this tour.
