    I really love this place.
The food is pretty cheap for how good it is and the staff is always super friendly. They serve Groundworks coffee, which I love.
the bummer is that they use styrophome cups which are terrible for your health (leach toxic chems into your hot drinks) as well as the environment. There's no AC inside but they did just add some overhangs for chade in their sidewalk eating area. Oh- the decor is intentional and cool too. I hope this place sticks around for a long time. It's worth checking out!

I recommend the steak quesadilla with the pickled jalapenos...yummers!

Where do you go after you've had a bit of a slumber party at your house?
Only the best little cafe within walking distance!  We all walked down here Sunday morning for a little brunch action.

I was always surprised at the location of this place, as seems to pop up out of nowhere in a dismal stretch of Washington Blvd.  It's right on a corner flanked with cute little chairs outside.  I love when you walk into a place, and the employees are genuinely happy to see you.  The woman behind the counter was sweet as sugar.  Instead of table-wait service, you order at the counter, and the food is brought out to you.  I ordered a turkey club which came on untoasted wheat bread with dijon mustard and a lemonade.

I've never had a turkey club like the one I had at Atomic. It was freaking bomb!!! And not only was it amazing, it was HUGE. I was a teeny bit bummed there were no "sides" (no fries :|), but after I ate realized that seriously they weren't even needed.  I'm dying to come back and try their Soul Food (F-Sun) and the pastries behind the glass...Looks like this is going to be my new spot to saunter down to on my days off.

I have mixed feelings about this place.

    let me explain
The inside is welcoming, clean and very nice.
Tony, the guy at the counter is my second favorite thing, not saying he's a thing but Tony is very friendly and is always up for good conversation.

The breakfast here is just okay and a bit overpriced if you ask me :(
$7 for french toast is not cool and when I ordered it they didn't sprinkle powdered sugar on it. the guevos rancheros were not authentic. The breakfast burrito is probably my favorite breakfast item, it's big, really big and just under six bucks!
Sorry to say that this is not my go to breakfast place and the breakfast only scores a 3 stars on my book.

Now lets move on to lunch. WOW I think it is safe to say that this place hes THE BEST hamburgers! the meat is seasoned to perfection.
The onion rings were really good and the pulled pork samich is so bombtastic!
Their burgers and pulled pork sandwich gets a 5 star!

Over all I like this place, won't go there for breakfast but will sure be back for lunch and dinner.

My go-to coffee spot in the mornings. Conveniently on my way to Culver City.  Great lattes, great cookies, great prices, great service! and great decor! I love the 50's atomic theme! LOVE IT.

Sadly, Atomic Cafe is on a barren stretch of Washington Blvd btwn La Brea and Fairfax. Nothing else around. In the morning, I'm usually the only patron there, sometimes maybe just one other person or 2  taking advantage of their free wifi. oh yeah, did I mention FREE wifi?! and yes, as already mentioned by Jason M., lots of outlets!

I was given a 10% discount coupon this week with the message "With your support we will survive" printed on the back. And I really hope they do! Its a great little spot, that was much needed in that neighborhood.

Can't wait to go back one of these weekends and try their soul cuisine!

    Please support them!!

3 stars for the food, 4 stars for the people.  The biggest appeal of this place is that it's 3 blocks from my house.  Even if the food were awful and the people douchebags, I'd probably still force myself to like it since it's the closest fresh food available to me.

Their baked goods all come from Normandie bakery except for the cookies, I forget who makes them, but Eric informed me that the crazy chocolate peanut butter pretzel cookie was the ultimate stoner food.  Indeed, the combination of salty and sweet is certainly conducive to quelling munchies, but "ultimate" may be a little too bold.

I've had the BBQ Chicken Sandwich, BBQ Pork Sandwich, and Turkey Dinner Sandwich.  All were definitely decent, the BBQ Pork was the best of the three, but since when doesn't slow cooked Pork blow most other things out of the water?

A couple days ago I walked into a community meeting being held at Atomic.  I didn't stay because it looked really boring, but it was nice to see nonetheless.

This is my fav place! I saw AC on my way to work. I have a 1 hour drive each way(blah!)...one day I decided to take the streets & the cafe caught my eye. I promised myself that I would stop by & it was worth every penny. Tony & Annette are so cool, they chat & serve the best food. I love the design behind the front counter the most. I love the hot Ham & Swiss w/egg breakfast sandwich. Then after getting this delight I decided to get lunch to go. Best chili I've ever had, a variety of tender beans & well seasoned & Focaccia bread. Annette got me hooked on the most delicious little devils, chocolate brownies, made by a talented chocolatier & boxed quite cute. Thanks Annette! Who is also a talented pastry chef.  You feel as though Tony & Annette know you when you walk through those doors, so walk through.

Update: Best scones ever@ Atomic Cafe! Raspberry Scones, melt in your mouth moist w/an Americana made by Tony. He was nice enough to share the history of the Americana(coffee& something) but, I forgot. All I remember is that it went well w/my scone, sorry Tony! New fav huge Ham w/dijon, beautiful leafy greens, avocado(generously) on wheat.

Great new business that has opened up near the La Brea/Washington post office.

Great spot to write in!  Lots of outlets.  Good food (shocking that).  The breakfast sandwiches are a deal in the $3.50-$5 range with free coffee until 11am.  They do pretty decent espresso drinks.  I haven't had the more substantial food but from what I've had it's encouraging.

Someone art designed this place from top to bottom with a clean 50s aesthetic and a neat little rocket logo.  It's always the same 4-6 people working in there and they seem to take pride in their service.

Notwithstanding the brutal recession we're in, this place should do well.  The neighborhood definitely needs it!

Atomic is near a friend's house and he has "raved" about it in the past, so we walked over there one day for breakfast. It is a really great little place. I thought all I wanted was coffee and toast, but the breakfast sandwiches were to tempting to resist. I had an egg, cheese, BLT style sandwich and it was really good. The only thing that could have made it perfect was if the bread had been toasted, but that was my fault, as I didn't order it that way (next time!). My friend ordered a scone and it was super fresh and delish. My coffee was perfect.
The decor is great and they now serve soul food on the weekends, so I'm going to have to get over there and check that out this summer.
Oh! And Tony and Annette are awesome. This place is a great find. Good food, good people. Check it out, again and again.

Everything I've ever ordered from here has been really tasty, cheap and HUMONGOUS.  So you can either get a few meals out of each order, or just revel in your own gluttony.

I've had the turkey burger, which was super flavorful and delicious.

The BLT was gigantic and awesome.

    Ditto for the breakfast burrito.

Also, the guy that owns this place is really friendly and helpful.  I definitely plan to go back and try their pulled pork sandwich.  Like maybe tonight.

Just a point of clarification:  this place is NORTH of the 10 freeway (sorry Lisa).  Will update my review after I lunch there this afternoon.

    UPDATE:

So, I've updated my review and added another star after actually having eaten the food.  In actuality, I think that 3.5 stars is a more fitting rating, but what are you gonna do?

The food is very decent, especially for the price.  Burgers start at $4.95.  I had a roast beef and pepper jack sandwich on a french roll for $6.95.  Hank's turkey and stuffing sandwich was the same price.

The lady behind the counter was super nice (almost refused Hank's turkey request being this soon after Thanksgiving, but in the end she relented).

Eric, the prep chef, is a big mountain of a man with gauged earlobes and full sleeves.  Super nice guy.

They have a nice selection of pastries and pies and the onion rings were sooooo good.

Atomic does have kinks to work out, as with most fledgling restaurants, but I really hope it survives, as it provides a much needed comfort-food joint in the area.

I drove by this place everyday on my way to work each morning and always wondered about it... it looked cool, had a cool name, and never looked too busy. A couple of months ago, I came into work late and I decided to have some lunch there. I'm glad I did!

I had a pulled pork sandwich that was fantastic! My wife had a veggie burger that was hand-packed and very flavorful! The cashier gave us 10% off for being "new customers." That was very sweet of her.

I stopped by again the other day and had a cheeseburger that was VERY good as well. It was cheap too! About $4. Everyone who works here is very nice and I really hope they stay in business... as other people have mentioned. It's on a long stretch of La Brea where there's not much around.

Please support them. It's great food, a great environment, great people, and free wi-fi!

Just checked this place out with 7 other of my friends today.  Two of them had had lunch there last week and said the service and burgers were great.  It was true. :)

Ordered a beef cheeseburger with avocado, steak fries, and a raspberry iced tea.  The burger was delicious and perfectly cooked and was exactly as I ordered.  The Atomic Cafe has 10% off your order of $10 (i think) on Mon, Tues, Wed and the owner was nice enough to give me 10% off just because.  Tried my friend's chicken wings -- unbelievably crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside.  Another friend ordered a personal BBQ chicken pizza that looked great for its $7-8 price.  Another friend ordered a pastrami sandwich that was also gobbled up in a minute.  The place is very clean and plays good music.  The owner even came by and gave us two slices of cheesecake for our group, thinking it was someone's birthday.  They had a bunch of other delicious-looking desserts like pastries, cupcakes, muffins, a layered chocolate cake, etc.

The service was great and we'll be back!  They have weekly specials, like Thursday is Gumbo Thursday.  Didn't try it, but it sounded really good.  One of the coolest things on top of everything was the automatic sensor trash cans in the dining room and the bathroom.  =P

The Atomic cafe is a pleasant surprise.
I drive by this place on the way to work in Culver City
sometimes, and one day I decided to stop by with the
girlfriend and try it out for breakfast.

I had some coffee (great!) and pancakes (amazing!) and she ordered french toast.  The guy behind the counter calls them "Frankenstein Feet" or something because these french toast pieces are at LEAST a size 15.
She could barely finish one of the two slices, and I finished off the other.
    Eggy, thick, crisp, just right.

This is the kind of breakfast place that you are always hoping to find.  The food is good, the portions are big, and it's surprisingly cheap -- like, my girlfriend and I are plenty full off of $10 cheap.

We both had breakfast burritos.  She had the vegetarian, I had the works.  We both even added in avocado and beans.  They came hot, with salsa and fresh fruit (icing on the cake).

Next time we're at her uncle's house for an early morning, we'll be sure to come back.

I've only eaten here three times. The first time I got a BBQ Rib dinner with greens and Mac & Cheese. They don't use any meat in their greens, but they were surprisingly well seasoned and flavorful. The Ribs and Mac & Cheese were pretty good too, although, I could tell that the Ribs were prepared in the oven which sucked, the meat was very tender and literally fell off of the bone, which made up for the lack of smokiness that would have came from a grill.

The second visit I had the gumbo.. I was shocked at how good it was. Since this is not a typical cajun /  creole restaurant, I wasnt really expecting much but, I'll tell you, the chef knows what he is doing in that kitchen.

On my third visit I got a breakfast burrito, which was also pretty good, aside from the half cooked potatoes they put inside of it.

The food is great here, and you will be surprised to know that isnt the reason I kept coming back. It was the outstanding customer service that keeps them getting my business.

Being close to my house, I really want to like this place. We came here on a weeknight for the first time and chatted with the owner and Annette, the cook. They gave us some samples and we were pretty satisfied with the food and coffee.

However, on our next visit, which was a weekend for lunch, the food was not that good. I had the southern BBQ dish. They have game nights and other themed nights and send out emails to let you know of them along with their plate of the day, which is always decently priced. Thus, they have specials all the time and so their menu is always changing.

The inside is nice as they have fresh pastries and plenty of small tables. You will see people studying, or surfing the web as they offer free wifi. The décor is an old school diner meets jetsons future rocket scene from a movie (hence the name, Atomic Café). I will be giving them another chance and will update accordingly.

Either the Pet Shop Boys' or Blondie's infamous song of the same name mud-sticks to the mind when I think of this joint's vibe. For you Gen-Y peeps, Google these legendary music icons if you haven't a clue who I'm referring to pls.

That & my own precious memory:
1st week of Oct, one eve dream guy & I synchronized our GPS & silly desire to map-route to this random rendez-vous spot.

"Atomic" must be the actual explosion of senses created when you're unexpectedly infatuated, timed at the right place & moment.

To the outside world, we're simply two lusty fools sharing/swapping super fruity chilled smoothies, Passion & Paradise I think. Hmmm, how oddly appropriate for our lovesick mindset!

To spice it up more: hearty Gumbo soup. Hunky-Chunky-Dory-Delish! Plumpy prawns smoldered w/thick sausage slices--enough to make kissey lips bloody swollen!...& that's a good thing served w/fluffy soft cornbread.

But really, no fluff here, the decor & service was sweet, stylish & cool as is that guy who Atomic-charged my heart! ;-)

I've had the Philly steak sandwich and the Caesar salad here. But, first a comment about ambiance -- there isn't any. It's set-up like a small dinner with shiny silver & vinyl stools and cafe tables inside; and checkerboard floor (if I remember correctly). However, unlike a typical good diner this place is usually empty when I pass by it. I think most people order takeout or come here at breakfast or some other hour of the day (it was prime dinner hour when I went).

The food: the Philly steak sandwich was good -- definitely a B+. It had a decent hoagie size bun, the meat was typical Philly meat, and the cheese, onions, and bell pepper added a nice aroma and texture. The Caesar salad I was expecting to be underwhelmed by, but it's also really solid. Big chunks of romaine lettuce, crusty croutons, good dressing (served on the side), and a high-quality, pungent, and flavorful shredded Parmesan cheese.

Prices are very reasonable, and it's a nice unpretentious and casual place to eat.

This cafe is in my neighborhood and it is the best thing to come over here! The owner Tony really gets to know you and cares about you and what you are doing. He has introduced me to people that have the same interests as me. There are alot of artists and people from the neighborhood that come by and it is always full of life. There is free wifi you can sit and write or work in peace or observe the customers, the place has an interesting decor that inspires your creative juices!
The food is really good, Annette the cook makes the best gumbo and pretty much everything is makes is great. The burgers are off the chain too. It's just one of the best places you can go for food, people and decor.

4 for food/price, .5 for service, .5 just cuz i want this place to live long and prosper.

the owner, i think his name is erik? is super nice and attentive. came out to give me foods himself and asked how everything was. i had the ultimate burger thing, which only came with turkey or veggie patty. i had it with the turkey patty, and it has artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes and other veggie goodness on it. it was so deliciously flavorful! the only complaint i'd have about that was that the veggies were too watery. they were just cooked, so after a few minutes, the juices start flowing and it went down my arm =( but it was soo good. i'm so getting that again!

everything else that everyone else ordered looked really good. i was there by myself but i kept thinking about how i can get the other stuff next time.

it's a nice little place to stop by for foods amidst the almost-ghettos.

I was lured here by the Gumbo Thursday sign as I was leaving the post office. I was excited to see yet another place I can work from. It's nice and clean and looks just hip enough. The staff was very nice greeting me nicely and letting me know about the menu and the specials. The gumbo was pretty good but of course it's not like mama's it could use more cajun spices. I'd definitely return to try out other things and to try and get some work done.

I first saw this place from the street during my commute, like many of the other reviewers on here. The building cafe is housed in is definitely eye catching for the neighborhood.  This may be because the owner of the place is also an architect as I found out.  I was at first was curious about the cafe on its design aesthetics alone.  I ordered one of the Soul Food combos which amazingly was under $10. My plate included a very good variation of fried chicken with my choice of 2 sides, which were baked beans and mac and cheese.   Also everyone who worked there seemed pleasant enough. I think its really cool that Tony took a chance with the   location, and has provided the neighborhood with a unique spot to grab something to eat.

I was excited to try the food at this place, since I live near it. I ordered a bowl of chili, which was pretty good, but the rest went south. Both the Gumbo and the Philly Cheese steak in my opinion were too salty. They must have overdone it that day, but it definitely did not make me want to return, too bad.

A friend of mine suggested we meet here for brunch.  The problem with brunch at the typical places on Sunday morning is the wait so I went ahead to put our name on the list for a seat.  Imagine my surprise when I got there to find 2 tables in side and 1 table outside occupied with about 20 other open tables.  This place is like the antithesis of Sunday brunch in LA--or maybe they just don't know about it yet?

I got the fish tacos with steak fries and diet coke. $6.85, people! With a drink!  There were 3 tacos on the plate, each perfectly fried with a cabbage garnish and sort of special sauce. The fries were perfectly cooked--crisp, but soft, and not greasy.

We sat outside under the awning on a slow part of sprawling Washington Blvd.. We marveled at how the the cafe and the run down, industrial feel of that stretch of Washington felt like Tallahassee--in a good way.  Very responsible, small town prices. Great service. Food made with care. The decor is trying too hard and a little schizophrenic (though I love the tile and the coffee urns), but the menu is diverse, yet simple, and they offer daily specials.  I hope they get more business, because I don't want it to go anywhere.  This is DEFINITELY going to be my new hang out!

I went there with help from Yelp, the first time I went I got the soul food plate - pork ribs, mac and cheese and garlic mashed potatoes and corn bread muffin for $9.  Tony was really nice and gave me a 10% discount for 1st time being there. The food was really good and they give you a huge amount of food. The ribs were tender and delicious, the mac and cheese was cheesy and the noodles were perfect, alot of places tend to overcook the noodles for some reason. The mashed potatoes were not my favorite, there was so much garlic it tasted overpowering for me.

Quite honestly I didn't like the pulled pork sandwich that much -maybe its just me. But the onion rings are good and only $2. I tried their Pizza once, it's good when it's hot but I wouldn't go out of my way to get pizza here.

I love the turkey pilgrims sandwich - turkey, gravy, stuffing and cranberries on a roll. The BBQ chicken sandwhich is also good - chicken, onion rings, bbq sauce on a roll. I prefer the turkey.

The location is on La Brea and Washington - there is pretty much nothing else there, its in the middle of nowhere. There is always a parking spot on the side street

The people are nice and the food is good, what else could you ask for ?

I've seen this place everyday since it's like 3 minutes from my house. The service was great, very friendly, the food was tasty and inexpensive (grilled cheese, so good) and the place is nice, quiet and clean. Wonderful little spot for this part of town. I'll be returning to try some breakfast; $3 and $5 burritos!

What can I say? The issues I addressed in my original review have been resolved. My 4 stars just went to 5 stars.  It's obvious Atomic Cafe respects and listens to their customers.  First, there is a website now that sports their menu. Second, the restaurant is now equipped with space age mod ceiling fans.  While not as strong as a/c, they definitely cool the place down.  Great job guys!

Friendly and good service.  The Turkey burger is so good.  The food is always fresh no matter what you order.  I have had the gumbo twice and each time it is loaded with shrimp, real crab legs, sausage and chicken.  Love to order the gumbo for take out so I can really enjoy it at home watching tv.

Loved finding this little gem south of the 10 FWY.  Excellent food, great service.  Wonderful sandwiches and salads.  I tried the BBQ Pork and it was excellent.  Nice locally owned place with a hip atmosphere.  Worth a try, you will become a regular.

Just need to update to say again how much I love this spot.  I had the BBQ pork sandwich... so flavorful!  The table next to me had some pizzas and they looked HUGE.  I will have to try them next time.  Again, the staff is so nice and accommodating.  These guys know how to keep you coming back!

Hey kids...just had a BBQ chicken sandwich, quite possibly the best thing I've ever had in my mouth...get the onion ring on the side.

Profoundly excellent. At this point I can only speak for the pulled pork sandwich but oh boy was it delicious, and it really makes me want to try the rest of their menu. They also get major bonus points for providing bottles of Cholula garlic hot sauce!

Got take-out. Pretty good portions, large fries, they were just okay and got the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. It was pretty standard diner food. I have had better Philly Cheesesteaks. The salad was wilted and was yucky. It is close to home so I thought I would give it a shot. Not too impressive the first time around. Might have to try it again.
