Having the pleasure of working at the Placentia location, my opinion of Total Woman Gym is quite mixed.

As a facility, it was top-notch. A hair was never to be seen in the shower floor, as the housekeepers maintained a squeaky-clean environment at all times. Nasty perverted men were confined to the lobby only, unless of course a technician happened to come in, and was thereby announced over intercom. The Placentia location is relatively small and the weight room was rather... girly. There were no large weights that surpassed 45 lbs, machines dominated the area, and a bench was no where to be seen. I guess normal women don't lift more than 45 lb. dumbbells anyway...

I went to this spa for two reasons: first, my friend was going and we wanted to go together, and secondly, I had a gift certificate.

What can I say, it was alright. Definitely not 5 stars. Here's the problem - I'm a professional esthetician, and there was a ton of stuff that was not up to par.

The decor here is not bad, all granite tile and dim lighting. They do have a jacuzzi, steam room, etc. I did not find it to be super clean as one reviewer did, but then again, how can you keep a huge facility like that spotless. I thought it was cool that you get a cloth bag with everything you need in it (robe, slippers, etc.). I also liked that they had a neat quiet room with all different kinds of tea.

The product lines used are awesome - Epicuren and Bioelements. No complaints there.

My esthetician was one of the ones who's been there a long time and pretty established. But the facial was pretty sub-par. First of all, she kept leaving the room. What was she doing? Eating a sandwich? Why couldn't she hang out with me for an hour....or at least explain to me WHY she was leaving?

She put this pumpkin mask on my face which was extremely tingly and left the room - that is just inexcusable to me. It's not cool to be getting your face burned off without someone at least checking in on you.

There was only about 5 minutes of massage, tops. Right when I was getting relaxed, the steam was off and it was all over. The extractions were okay. Not thorough enough.

And then, she put some other mask on my face and left. Then, she came back, slathered some moisturizer on, and tried to get me to buy half of Bioelements' product line.

I would have liked it better if my therapist would have explained more what she was doing and why...before she railroaded me into buying a ton of products. :(

I no longer go to Total Woman because I moved, but I have nothing bad to say about the place. I had always been self-conscious about going into gyms and Total Woman was such a great change from all of that. Even the women who are really in shape and fit don't seem to be looking and judging you. Going there helped me to build up confidence so that I could eventually go to a "regular" gym without feeling weird.

This is one of the cleanest gyms and their machines are supposed to be more suited for a woman. There are smaller weight increments on the machines and they also have a pilates room. When I went there you had to pay a little more to use that, but I'm not sure if they've changed that policy or not.

I've had one massage in the spa and it was a great experience. They were promoting a special mother/daughter deal one mother's day so I treated my mom (and myself) to a massage. They have a really nice waiting room and the massage rooms themselves have a calming and relaxing environment.

I can't believe it took me so long to get into the Total Woman experience.  This all woman's gym and spa has been right under my nose.  After taking a tour of the facility I knew I had made the right choice in my gym.  There is a comfortable and safe vibe, you don't have to worry about meathead testosterone men fighting over equipment.  The machines are designed especially for the female form and they offer fun classes throughout the entire day.

What is the best bonus about this gym is that they have a full fledged spa in the gym, facials or massages you name it you can get it here.  They have a steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi, and because of these extra amenities they make sure to keep the place CLEAN!  The sinks and showers are spacious spa sized showers.  They also really seem to care about their members, always promoting events and games to motivate workouts.  Most recently they had silent auctions.  My only resentment is that I didn't sign up for this gym sooner when it was a little bit cheaper.  Monthly is $45/mo, no contract, but you can visit any gym you want.

I have mixed feelings about this day spa.  The atmosphere was nice - even if there were gym goings-ons in the locker room.  The staff was a little snobby, but friendly enough.  The decor was nice and dim.  Tranquil music was piped in.

I had probably the best facial I've ever had.  That wasn't my issue.

My problem came with my massage.  My very young massage therapist incessantly chattered at me.  I don't mind a good conversation while I'm getting a massage - but this one was one-way.  In addition to that, she spoke VERY LOUDLY.  So loudly, in fact, my friend in one of the other therapy rooms actually heard her through the walls!  Plus the massage was rushed.  I'm sure I wasn't in there for the full time.  It wasn't very therapeutic or even relaxing.  It ended with her informing me I had a knot in my shoulder. Of course, she did nothing to solve the problem.  So...what...?  I'm supposed to book another massage since she didn't focus on the areas I asked her to focus on?

I guess it's not entirely fair to dock this spa a star based on one massage therapist.  However, my friend also had a fantastic facial (given by a different esthetician), but could have passed on the other treatment she had as well (herbology - a body exfoliation treatment).

So, the lesson we learned is to only book a facial at this location.
